Sooo I love spring just as much as anyone, but it’s not just for the sunshine and the flowers. I use it to shop for some of my winter-wear for when the chilly weather comes around again. I manage to lose gloves like it’s nobody’s business but I also like to have new pretty things to wear when November with all of it’s gloominess arrives.

To declare that the weather is unpredicatable right now, would be an understatement. Just last Friday, here in London, hailstones turned to full blown sunshine in the space of a couple of hours.

Puffa’s have been a stay-warm staple for some time now, but it’s so hard to find one that is both stylish and form flattering. If you’re in the market, check out this Ruched Trim coat by Tahari. This classic coat comes in silver and black, is cut snug to the body and is well proportioned so that it accentuates the figure. We love the Twiggy-esque oversized buttons, ruche cowl neck and sleeve detailing that add an element of design and luxury. $168, available at Nordstrom

Just when you thought trench coats were one in the same…there goes Sienna Miller walking down the street in this incredible dramatic “Marie Coat” by Vidler & Nixon. We love this coat for its girly silhouette that brings us back to petticoat days, and for its structured and asymmetrical shape that reminds us that you can be classic and edgy at the same time. London-based Vidler & Nixon launched their first collection in ’06, and are known for their modern take on vintage elegance. Now we see why they’re quickly becoming a celeb fave! The “Marie Coat”, £580 ($1160) is available at Harrods London and in select U.S boutiques.

Coats for fall: The Trench [I Like her style]
by Michele Obi
Critics predict that the death of thick warm coats is nigh because of global warming and instead we should invest in chunky knit cardigans. We disagree and think there will be quite a few freezing cold days this winter that require a coat warm enough to ward off the cold. When hunting for a coat good enough to do the job ditch playing it safe with fitted black options and succumb to the temptation of voluminous shapes, like this stylish wool Kimono coat from Spijkers and Spijkers, £575, available from Nina and Lola.

I love the winter, I do, but it’s so hard to maintain a chic and elegant exterior when you’re shivering from your very core, and all your efforts are spent trying to stop your teeth from chattering. Staying warm during this cold snap couldn’t be better. From the trench to the jacket, there is a coat out there for all of us….

Hands down Zara gets my award for best coats on the high street. Breaking from tradition, this season I invested in just one coat, rather than splitting my cash and buying two. Best decision I made, and even wiser was my choice to head to Zara. Being on the tall side, for once I had zero problems with the length of the sleeves, rather I had more difficulty in choosing just one and opted for a black, military style, ¾ length coat, rationalising that it would go with all outfit choices. It was affordable and I have no complaints at all about the quality.

Being ready to indulge myself, and on the lookout for another coat with colour this time round, it still has to be Zara, especially after seeing the coat above. The colour satisfies my current obsession for red, the bold buttons add effective detail while keeping it simple and as spring approaches the structure and length are perfect for the transition in everyday wear to dresses. To think, despite all the hype I wasn’t the biggest fan of Zara prior to 2006, but credit where credits due, they have an excellent selection of coats for winter.
