I do try to escape my little fashion bubble and explore fashion on a global level. The latest international designer to spark my curiosity is, Rabia Z. Winner of the “Emerging Talent” award and the winner of the British Council’s “Young Entrepreneur of the Gulf” award at Dubai Fashion Week, Rabia is revolutionising fashion for the modern Muslim woman. Its nearly that time again. With London Fashion Week round the corner, we’ve been keen to find out which designers were lucky enough to receive New Gen sponsorship this season.
The announcement has been made and in total, twenty talented designers made the cut and will get the opportunity to show their SS09 collections either in the BFC New Gen exhibition area sponsored by Topshop or on the catwalk at London Fashion Week in September.
The disparate backgrounds of Modernist designers Andrew Jones and Abdul Koroma make for a compelling team. Working together to make beautiful, modern and curious clothes, the duo have already treaded the boards of London Fashion Week and been honoured by Fashion Fringe. Yves Saint Laurent, who can only be considered as a master, has died aged 71 on Sunday evening. Details of the cause of death have not been confirmed. Reports of his drug addiction, fragile state and depression are being highlighted alongside the breaking news, but the fact is Laurent was an innovator, ahead of his time and inspired many. Today is a sad day for fashion.

Its impossible to open a newspaper (or terrible gossip magazine….) at the moment without having to endure a thorough examination of the sartorial decisions of our young royals. Yawn. It’s not that I particularly have anything against them, it’s just that there doesn’t seem to be anything worth talking about.
Up and coming, LA based designer, Geren Ford recently debuted a collection, Hawks, as a collaboration with Urban Outfitters. Known for her edgy and youthful take on fashion, the line features vintage-inspired tunics, shorts and dresses that are easy to layer and wear from day to night.
I abandoned the eternal search for the Little Black Dress years ago, getting a little bored with an item of clothing that never seems to have enough going on to satisfy my demanding and fanciful tastes. Well as they say, a watched pot never boils, and while my back has been turned Hannah Marshall has emerged as a designer to watch, with a shadowy army of quietly armoured LBDs marching enigmatically in her wake.
