I like my dresses with a story. Finding them, mainly, in charity shops means that I have to make them up. They become the little characters that live in my wardobe (i’m not crazy, I promise). Which is why I was so excited to stumble upon Dream and Awake, a little collective of girls who remake found vintage dresses like prescious treasures with a secret history.

Given that Earth Day was yesterday, we figured it would be appropriate to browse some “green” products. Even though more and more brands are popping up with organic and non-toxic lines, it’s safe to say that natural fabrics haven’t quite yet hit the mainstream and aren’t universally available. But, if you actually take the time to look online for alternatives to your otherwise synthetic-filled closet, you’ll find that there’s some great options that are stylish and more importantly, eco-friendly.

A girl’s gotta get dolled up sometimes. When most of my days are spent in jeans, tees and other casual gear, getting cleaned up and pretty for a night out never seems to get dull.
Sadly, I haven’t had more than a couple of occasions to get glammed up for in what seems like ages, but it can’t hurt to have a well-equipped closet (just in case the opportunity arises).

Every summer I go on a hunt for a couple of great strapless dresses, they’re comfy, stylish and are perfect holiday companions.
Last year, H&M had a decent selection, but after hearing lots of great things about American Apparels tube dresses I decided to finally check them out for myself (and I have to admit I’m glad I did).

Young celebs have been spotted around town baring their backs in cut out or back-strap frocks recently. Something about the allusion to undergarments makes the look daring and very sexy.
If you’re ready to give this trend a try and aren’t afraid to show a little skin, then this Black Halo Cut-Out Back Shift Dress – recently donned by The Hills star, Audrina Patridge – would be a fabulous option for you.

I’ve been looking around for cute dresses to wear to the full calendar of events I have coming up this summer. Yes, it’s officially the beginning of wedding season. While shopping online, I came across this Cynthia Rowley Scarf Halter Dress and absolutely fell in love with it.

I must say that I am happy and quite relieved to see that maxi dresses are back on the fashion scene - especially after a seemingly endless foray into gam-exposing minis, short-shorts and curve-hugging leggings.
It’ll be a really nice change to head out to dinner without worrying about sitting uncomfortably in skinny jeans after a big meal or being paranoid about showing too much skin.
Recently, celebs like Lauren Conrad, Christina Aguilera and Hayden Panettiere have all been spotted rockin’ maxi dresses by LA-based label, Gypsy 05 for daytime or casual evening looks.
These dresses are simple and easy to throw on, and are partly glam with their plunging v-neck bodices.
Made of 100% organic cotton, the floor-grazing frocks come in an array of colours (I’m a fan of the Lipstick) and are “must haves” for the eco-friendly fashionista who’s looking for a little extra breathing room. $100 available at Gypsy 05.

I was shopping around online today and came across this Aminaka Wilmont dress and was absolutely baffled. At initial glance, I only saw the dress-form outline and thought that there might have been a mistake on the website.

Now that it’s officially Spring – even though the weather isn’t quite there yet – it’s time to start replenishing our wardrobes with fun pieces that make us smile. This aptly named “Start 2 Melt” dress by Twinkle is adorable and is definitely a piece your girlfriends will fawn over.
The geometric pattern gives the frock a mod vibe, while the striped accents at the hem and sleeves add a slight nautical flair. We love the dainty bows at the cuffs, the interesting colour palette, and the soft A-line shape. This signature fine-knit Twinkle piece would look great with leggings and ankle booties or a pair of wedge sandals. $279 available at Shopbop.com.

Call me crazy, but I just love finding clothes that make me go ‘huh?’ when I see them for the first time on a hanger.
The pieces could have intricate straps that criss-cross, be draped in ways that are tough to figure out, or have interesting design elements that don’t seem to go together at initial glance, but might just work when worn with confidence.
