Okay, not really. But when I opened my copy of New York Magazine this week, my heart skipped a beat. Shoes are bad for my feet?! Surely that had to be incorrect, or a (very) belated April Fools joke, as anyone who has walked around in Manhattan, or anywhere, really, knows how many icky and dangerous things lurk on the ground.

The Bag Quest: Rebecca Minkoff or Botkier?

I have said in the past that I am a big fan of the standard Herve Chapelier canvas tote bags, but I’ve been thinking about upgrading for awhile. Although I may lust after items with big price tags on a regular basis, I live in Manhattan and I’m at the start of my career, and seeing as I don’t work in finance, that means I budget. Big time.

Seasonal Schizophrenia: Sandals or Sweaters?

by Lindsay North

vince_260408.jpgI’m confused. This past week in NYC was unseasonably balmy (75 degrees Fahrenheit in mid-April) and I found myself relegating my black tights to the back corner of my closet and going bare-legged with my skirts and dresses. Then today rolled around, and although it wasn’t exactly January again the cold and damp made me long for a thick sweater. So—on to the confusion.

I’m browsing around online as I am wont to do, and I’m thinking of gaps in my wardrobe. I need a slightly oversized cashmere cardigan, preferably black, that I can snuggle into when it’s chilly outside, like this one from Vince , except in black cashmere—like I said, I’m looking….

Like a Virgin: Vintage Madonna

by Katy Smail

All of this recent Madonna exposure makes me a little sad. Too many pumped muscles, too much shiny purple and too much shiny hair. Not that I am going to sit here and criticise Lady Madonna, but give me the rough edges and genuine rebellion of her “Like a Virgin” days any, well, day. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I might start comandeering her style from that video.

T-Shirt Recycling: Loomstate for Barney’s

by Lindsay North

loomstate_150408.jpgOkay so I admit that I have been on something of a Barney’s bender lately, but I rarely have time to go into the big department stores in Manhattan and do most of my shopping at boutiques closer to my apartment in the East Village.

While shopping in Barney’s last week I saw a poster for their latest fashion project from Loomstate: bring in one of your old t-shirts and receive a 20% discount on Loomstate items.

Unfortunately for those of you that can’t drop in to one of the actual stores (this offer is valid in-store only), you won’t be able to score the discount. What you will be able to score however, regardless of your location, is a “re-fashioned” tee that will be totally unique and part of a limited edition collection come holiday time this year.

For those of us that are barely capable of sewing on a button, this represents a unique opportunity to own a piece of clothing that is a work of art and has a story to tell.

Art Over Function: The Statement Shoe

If the catwalks for Spring 08 are any indication, owning a pair of “statement shoes” will be the biggest fashion essential for the upcoming months. With sky-high heels that are more art than functional and with practicality completely gone out the window, designers have taken footwear to unchartered territory incorporating incredible levels of creativity and in some cases, bizarreness.

Style Profile: Victoria Beckham & Dita von Teese

Have you ever seen Victoria Beckham with a hair out of place? Neither have I. The same goes for Dita von Teese. Come to think of it, these two ladies aren’t that far off from each other, style-wise. We rarely see Dita during the day so we don’t really have much to compare for her daytime wear, but ‘relaxed clothing’ seems to be a foreign concept for Posh anyway.

Channel Your Inner Geek: Keyboard Shopping Bag

I spend most of my time consuming an unhealthy amount of fashion information both online and in print, so I try to break things up a bit by keeping up to date on techy stuff too. While doing my blog rounds on Friday, both worlds collided when I saw this keyboard shopping bag. My first thought was, “interesting”…second thought, “would I actually carry one?”

The Keybag, which also comes in black, is designed by Portuguese designer João Sabino.

Like the cupcake clutch, I do love the concept. However 80% of my day is spent banging away at a keyboard, so could I see myself carrying one around too? Not so much.

What are your thoughts on the keyboard shopping bag?

The Denim Saga: Continued

Thanks for all of your advice, ladies! As many of you suggested, I found my answer to my skinny jean dilemma in a fabulous pair by J-Brand. Before my shopping trip to Barneys, I braced myself for a few hours of trying on jeans as I can never, ever find a pair that I like, so I asked a friend to come along (she wears skinny jeans almost exclusively , owns a pair by all of the major denim designers, and also recommended J Brand). She quickly selected a few pairs for me to try on, and I bought the first pair I pulled on.

Eye love this season: Oversized Sunglasses

Oversized sunglasses are still hot! Popularised in 2007 by the likes of Nicole Richie and her ex-stylist Rachel Zoe, the John Lennon-style sunglasses made a come back on the 2008/9 catwalks. While there are lots of designers to choose from, we love Ralph Laurens 1960’s inspired pair. Also on our wish list…Christian Dior’s squared off version.
