We don’t know about you, but we’re getting a little fidgety about summer over here. You see, when the sun has its hat, we’re very happy indeed – and frankly we’ve had enough of grey skies and soggy feet.

Whilst attending the Benetton press day last week we found ourselves getting very excited for the launch of the brand’s new spring/summer 2011 collection – after all, it signals the start of a whole new wardrobe.

The show room was filled to the brim with flirty floral separates and playful pastel cover ups, not to mention gorgeous ruffle layered miniskirts, boyfriend-style turn up skinny jeans and good old English hot pants.

A somewhat nautical theme also spread throughout the line, with tasselled boat shoes and oversized beach bags sticking around for another sunshine-inspired season, alongside some rather attractive mauve court shoes – perfect for those summertime garden parties.

And whilst we’re on the subject of evening wear, just take a look at these sophisticated white and blue patent clutches for strolling by the British sea side.

Ah Luella, we don’t half miss you. Just when we thought we’d definitely had enough of florals, we spot this jacquard mini dress and everything’s different again.

New to the Outnet this week, this corseted number is the pretty dress we’ve been lusting after for so long. Not only does the jacquard effect update flower prints for autumn, it’s delicate enough for this season’s ladylike trend – just check out that signature sweetheart neckline and the bow-shaped pocket further down.

Like Gladiator sandals, the maxi dress, sweeps back into style every Spring/Summer.

The favourite attire for celebs including Nicole Ritchie who the maxi dress queen, Lauren Conrad and the Olsen twins. There is not a designer who hasn’t supported the trend, from Diane Von Furstenburg to Marc Jacobs along with the high-street whom have more than a fair few.

The perfect outfit whether you’re a yummy mummy or die-hard fashionista, it can be worn for formal or casual. Just pair with flip-flops and an abundance of bangles or heels and a clutch, either way you will be hot to trot.

It seems to be the trend that never dies and this summer is no exception; they were all over last season’s catwalks and now the high-street has once again been transformed into a multicoloured meadow of floral prints.

Gone are last season’s cute ditzy prints though, replaced with bold statement florals not just adorning dresses and skirts but feminising tailored blazers and adding statement status to shoes and clutches.

Not always an easy trend to pull off, MFL has a few tips on how to be fabulous rather than frumpy in florals.

1. Toughen up girlie flower prints with leather accessories, a waist belt and some killer heels to ensure it doesn’t look like you’ve escaped from the set of Little House on the Prairie.

2. This isn’t a trend that has to cost you an arm and a leg, Topshops collection of mini dresses and jackets in quirky floral prints would look at home on any catwalk.

3. Charity shops are also full of hidden floral treasures which with a little tweaking can become unique statement pieces. Look out for rogue Laura Ashley prints.

4. Avoid fussy hair and make-up to keep the look young and fresh and mix and match contrasting floral prints for a more edgy look.
