Copycat: Minnetonka vs Jessica Simpson

So, I get that imitation is the highest form of flattery, but I can’t imagine the people at Minnetonka Moccasin company being overly pleased with Jessica Simpson at the moment. Her beaded “Mocca” flat is a blatant rip-off of the classic Minnetonka “Thunderbird” moc, worn by many a celeb such as Kate Hudson, Courtney Cox, Julia Roberts and Drew Barrymore (Kate Moss is also a Minnetonka fan, although she favours their boots).

While I love spring and the warm weather it brings, I haven’t managed to find the time to get a pedicure. By this, I mean that my toes are staying hidden in ballet flats until I get myself over to a salon! But just because my tootsies haven’t caught up to this season doesn’t mean the rest of me has fallen behind, which is why I was delighted to find these super cute French Sole “Season” flats.

Closet Solutions: Rakku Shoe Wheel

I stumbled upon this image of the Rakku Shoe Wheel while blog-surfing today and was just mesmerized by it. Most women struggle to find ample storage space for all of their shoes. Stacked in the original boxes, strewn about on the floor, precariously hanging from one of those over-the-door shoe racks, there hasn’t really been a great way to keep things organized and easily accessible.

So, I’m not totally sure what to think of these wedges from Roberto Cavalli … I am a big fan of wooden shoes and I love the contrast of the creamy pale leather (makes me think of safari, or someplace tropical and exotic).

Okay, not really. But when I opened my copy of New York Magazine this week, my heart skipped a beat. Shoes are bad for my feet?! Surely that had to be incorrect, or a (very) belated April Fools joke, as anyone who has walked around in Manhattan, or anywhere, really, knows how many icky and dangerous things lurk on the ground.

80’s Throwback That Works: Givenchy Jelly Gladiators

I know I made a big stink about jelly shoes making a comeback a few weeks ago (referencing the unwarranted resurrection of cheesy 80’s trends), but after seeing these Givenchy Jelly Gladiators, I’ve officially had a change of heart.

Shoewars: Steve Madden vs Balenciaga

Imitation is the highest form of flattery, but I have to admit I’m confused as to why anyone would want to copy this Balenciaga sandal. Nevertheless, Steve Madden has with his “Bukled” Bright Multi peep-toe pump.

The Balenciaga version was slightly more tolerable as the lines of the shoe are more refined and delicate, but it still looks like something the Pink Power Ranger would wear for a night out on the town.

Art Over Function: The Statement Shoe

If the catwalks for Spring 08 are any indication, owning a pair of “statement shoes” will be the biggest fashion essential for the upcoming months. With sky-high heels that are more art than functional and with practicality completely gone out the window, designers have taken footwear to unchartered territory incorporating incredible levels of creativity and in some cases, bizarreness.

It’s slowly getting warmer outside and with that, we’re getting a step closer to stowing away our favourite knee high boots that were so hot for A/W in favour of something more suitable for Spring.

Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent: Snakeskin Shoes

If it seems like ombre and snakeskin are everywhere lately … it’s because they are. Unlike other trends du jour that are kind of ridiculous (like toting bags around big enough to fit both Olsens inside), these trends are chic.

Ombre is a great way to add subtle visual interest to an otherwise blah outfit, while snakeskin strikes the perfect balance between fashionista and socialista.
