Steep Vs. Cheap: Canvas Wedge Sandals

Platform wedge sandals are staples in my wardrobe. Being very petite, I love to crank myself up with 3-5” heels on a daily basis and am rarely found in flats. I will admit, however, that as I get older, it gets harder to trek around the city in sky-highs around the clock. Aching feet and caught heels in subway grates seem to get less justifiable over time.

Are Jelly Shoes Making a Comeback?

If you’re looking to bust out your jellies after years of hibernation in the back of your closet, now’s your opportunity to dust them off…

I won’t lie and say that I never owned them, because I remember begging my mom for a pair of sparkly, cotton candy pink jellies when I was in grade school (and boy did I love them). But, as an adult, I find it a little odd to see reincarnations of these confectionary rubber shoes back on the market.

My Trusty Chucks!

Last weekend during the only snowstorm of the year, my trusty Converse trainers broke. I was wondering why my toes were feeling damp, when I looked down and saw a crack the size of the Grand Canyon spreading southwards down the sole of my shoe.

I always hate when my shoes break, because they become like a close friend, trusty and steadfast. Now I need to get looking for another pair in time for my trip to Paris next week, but where do I look? And what style do I choose?

Brogues: Fancy Footwork

brogues_asos.jpgI don’t know about you, but a whole season later and I am still in love with brogues. Flat patent brogues, shoe-boot brogues, brogues with heels, and the list continues. So, you can imagine my excitement when I found out that not only were brogues still de rigueur for the summer, but they had also been tweaked to allow for that all-important Spring/Summer vibe.

The weird and wonderful peep-toe brogue. Number one on my list of must haves for the upcoming sunny season (along with gladiator sandals of course).

Thank you, Marc Jacobs!

marcjacobs_heels_header.jpgI am a longtime fan of Marc Jacobs, and I usually don’t make any effort to hide it. If the man ever needed a kidney transplant, I’d probably offer him one of mine. However I have become just a little bit bitter toward him lately, and it has nothing to do with delayed runway shows or bribing officials. It has to do with shoes.

We all know that high heels can be really painful to wear, but we suck it up because they look fabulous. Louboutins? Love ‘em. Choos? Yes, please! Then, Mr. Marc Jacobs had to come along and re-interpret the high heel as … well, I’m not exactly sure what he was thinking, but it clearly wasn’t about comfort.

Comfy Shoes: Love Your Footsies

If you live in a city, it is inevitable that you walk around a lot. In Manhattan, which is home to some of the most intensely fashion-oriented women I’ve ever seen (just wander around at 9 am on a Sunday on the Upper East Side to see women perfectly coiffed and Chanel-ed and you will understand what I mean), fashion and practicality are often at odds in the footwear department.

Having had fairly serious foot surgery last summer, I’m more cautious than most when it comes to traipsing around the city in heels. Consequently, I’m constantly on the prowl for cute shoes that won’t destroy my feet. Below, find a list of shoes that are a healthy mix of fashion and function.

Prada details another heel!

If Prada’s flower-stemmed heels were a bit too … flamboyant for you, check out their latest version of the heel-as-art shoe. A bit art-deco, a bit Renaissance with the jewels, and a bit 1950s with it’s Mary-Jane style. This shoe projects luxury and class. Despite these various influences, the whole shoe ties together quite nicely and doesn’t feel “busy” at all.

Shopping: The New Look of Old Navy

by Lindsay North

Old Navy, part of the Banana Republic/Gap/Piperlime family, has previously been known as a purveyor of inexpensive clothing where, rather unfortunately, you could dress your entire family in the same outfit. Recently the company has undergone an effort to re-define itself as an inexpensive option for the fashion-conscious 18-29 demographic. While the adverts may be on the annoying side, I have to admit that I am liking some of the clothes! The current line, part of the re-brand, is generally safari themed and features camp shirts and lots of khaki and forest green hues.

Steep vs. Cheap: Snakeskin Sandals

With exotic animal prints and skins being all the rage this Spring, it might just be time to invest in a new pair of strappy snakeskin sandals. Definitely not a look that everyone can (or would want to) pull off, but for those of you who like to walk on the wild side, here are two great options depending on how much coin you have stashed in your piggy bank.
