I’ve been looking for a comfy and pretty, floor-grazing maxi dress to sport around this summer. Ideally, it would be something I could easily throw on in the AM with some flip flops, jet off to brunch and shopping with the girls and then toss on a pair of cute wedges to transform it to a relaxed evening look.

Shopping: Gypsy 05 Maxi Dresses

gypsymaxi_020408.jpgI must say that I am happy and quite relieved to see that maxi dresses are back on the fashion scene - especially after a seemingly endless foray into gam-exposing minis, short-shorts and curve-hugging leggings.

It’ll be a really nice change to head out to dinner without worrying about sitting uncomfortably in skinny jeans after a big meal or being paranoid about showing too much skin.

Recently, celebs like Lauren Conrad, Christina Aguilera and Hayden Panettiere have all been spotted rockin’ maxi dresses by LA-based label, Gypsy 05 for daytime or casual evening looks.

These dresses are simple and easy to throw on, and are partly glam with their plunging v-neck bodices.

Made of 100% organic cotton, the floor-grazing frocks come in an array of colours (I’m a fan of the Lipstick) and are “must haves” for the eco-friendly fashionista who’s looking for a little extra breathing room. $100 available at Gypsy 05.

This marks the last post in our 10 days 10 party dresses series so we thought we’d end with a bang! In contrast to most of our picks i.e. short, shiny and sparkly, we’re rounding off with this maxi dress by Matthew Williamson as an option for those soirees that are less partying and more schmoozing. This dress is a fantastic explosion of colour that’s complemented beautifully by the metallic panelling around the bust. Stunning! $2,995.00 available from Net-a-Porter. Are you in the party mood yet?

(Stay tuned for the best in party footwear…)

Psst…Boho never really went away

It’s the relaxed, carefree way to enjoy fashion, and it still reigns this summer. We love the styles, the loose fits flatter as do the natural earthly tones. The bohemian style is still much the same as it was, but obviously for a new season, a new twist is needed; so in place of the gypsy skirt you’ve got the maxi dress, stacked woven wedges and chunky, wooden accessories. So if, like most, you never really let the boho go, and your big belts, sun glasses and oversized bags are within reach, then grab them because you’ll need them this summer!

The Maxi Dress

The maxi dress has declared itself the must have item for the summer, so ditch the skin tight mini’s for something long and floaty! Perfect for the beach, or the bar so if you’re going on holiday there’s no excuse not to include the maxi in your ‘pre-holiday-splurge’. For casual-summer-chic, wear this Flower Maxi Dress, £40 from Topshop with a pair of flat gold summer sandals, and accessories with simple wooden bangles and shades.

The great thing about the maxi dress, apart from its obvious visual delights, is its ability to suit most body shapes. The dresses are meant to be tight around the bust, then loose fitting and long to the float, giving a more flattering silhouette. If you are a little shorter than most, team yours with wedge heels for an instant lift!
