Topshop on your mobile

by Michele Obi on November 1, 2005

Every company around is searching for a way to incorporate mobile phones into their business and Topshop is no exception. The store has managed to find a way to further their influence in the youth market by launching a mobile phone style advice service.

In conjunction with Skywire, the service will be an extension of their in-store style advice service and will allow customers to use their mobile phones to interact with Topshop’s style advisors. Shoppers will be able to book appointments, receive advice, receive picture messages of recommended clothing and reserve items.

Managing director of Skywire, Alex Judd, Skywire said of the venture,

“This is a fantastic use of mobile to enhance the unique service that Topshop offers.

With the ability to actually see the clothes that the style advisers are recommending while out of the store, it is a great use of technology.”

Kate out of rehab

by Michele Obi on October 29, 2005

Kate has now completed her 30 day stint in rehab after being exposed by the Daily Mirror for allegedly snorting coke.

The 31yr old supermodel lost some lucrative contracts as a result and checked in to The Meadows clinic just outside of Phoenix in order to battle her habit.

According to the Daily Mirror, she is also said to be thinking of leaving Britain in favour of the U.S, preferably New York. A source told the paper:

“Kate has been badly shaken by events of the last couple of months.

She will miss her family but she thinks it might be better to live away from Britain for a while.”

GLAM.COM: HIGH FASHION MEETS HIGH TECHNOLOGY

by Michele Obi on October 7, 2005

Entertainment website Glam.com is launching the first fashion blog network. Each blog is handpicked by Glam.com and focuses on a different topic e.g clothes, handbags, trends and accessories. The bloggers will remain editorially independent and Glam.com will be offering advertisers the chance to place ads on the blogs. In return Glam.com will benefit from the readership from the blogs which form the network. There will also be a launch of blogs directly from Glam.com authored by well known figures in the industry such as Ann Dexter-Jones and Karen Robinovitz.

If that isnt enough, Glam.com is also teaming up with AOL to allow women to shop together online. Using the AIM service, visitors will be able to see when friends are online, and send each other instant messages with product image links, changing how we shop online completely.

Glam Media, Inc. (think Gawker/Gothamist for the fashion industry) has a very influential backing from media, publishing, technology, and fashion companies such as Armani, eBay, NetObjects, Tickle, Versace, and Yahoo.

The editorial staff of the company is led by professionals from Vogue, In Style, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, The New York Times, and Ziff Davis.
