Gorgeous model and actress Liv Tyler already has a pretty impressive CV, but now she is set to make her singing debut in an advert for Givenchy, which the brand calls “an electrifying meeting between the world of rock and the universe of perfume.” 

Liv Tyler has been the face of Givenchy’s Very Irrésistible fragrance since it first launched in 2003, but now she is kicking her spokesmodel duties up a notch by teaming up with Sony Music Entertainment and music producer David Andrew Sitek for the project. Details for the collaboration are a little vague at the moment, but we do know that the track will be a cover of a very popular song – so the hairbrushes will be out in force for some lip-synching and air-grabbing on our part.

Liv and her Aerosmith frontman father (and more recently American Idol judge) Steven Tyler appear to have done some career switching, as he recently posed for the Andrew Muse clothing line – diversity and a multitude of talent obviously runs in the family.

We can’t wait to hear the song!

A flock of some of the hottest names in music headed to Glasgow last night for the prestigious MOBO awards. Jessie J rocked the red carpet in a floor length lace Julien Macdonald gown, before heading inside and picking up a record four awards.

The Essex girl won four out of the five categories in which she was nominated, scooping the prize for Best Album, Best Song, Best Newcomer and Best UK act.

As much as we adore her signature (and very enviable) poker straight bob, we love how she went for a side-swept wavy look. Even though she wore black, Jessie ensured she had lots of bling and attention-grabbing bright red lippy.

Jessie J may have got herself into the Guinness book of records,  but she’s evidently still a low-key Essex girl at heart.  She chose to wear Dr Marten boots with her floor-sweeping gown instead of sky-scraping heels, not because she didn’t feel ready after having recently taken her foot cast off, but mainly “because they’re comfy”.

We love a grounded celeb; keep young what you’re doing Jessie – and congratulations!

Of all the model-cum-somethings, Twiggy was probably the first. Aside from being one of Britain’s best-loved models for the past 40 years, she’s also dabbled with a music career for more than 30 of them.

So it should come as no surprise, really, that at 61, the Sixties icon is set to relaunch her pop career with an album of ballads, called Romantically Yours, this November.

“Music is so much a part of my life and my career,” she tells the Express. “I’ve been very visible doing other things but you don’t want people to think, ‘Oh, now Twiggy’s doing an album,’ because I’m actually going back into what I’ve done since 1970 (she launched her first self-titled album in 1976).”

Her new album will feature a slew of her favourite songs, including Neil Young’s Only Love Can Break Your Heart and Waterloo Sunset by The Kinks, and will also feature guest appearances by her daughter and friend Bryan Adams.

The album’s set for release on November 21st – a suitable stocking filler, perhaps?

American singer, songwriter, dancer, and all-round performer Janelle Monae had the privilege of being photographed alongside iconic fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld in a spread in the new issue of W magazine. Lucky girl!

In the spread, Monae and Lagerfeld stand side by side in neatly pressed matching black and white suits, whilst chatting about their friendship and the meaning of fashion in music.

“It’s transcendent. It never goes out of style,” said Monae about her distinct style and sense of fashion, before adding she wants colour to come out in her performance, not in her fashion.

But it seems on set, the pair got on pretty well – even Lagerfeld himself took an instant shining to the eccentric star.

“We liked each other from the first second,” said Lagerfeld. “Not just because of our style, but also the name – Janelle rhymes with Chanel no?”

We’re not sure that’s a good enough reason to like someone, Karl.

Shape What’s to Come, which officially went live yesterday, is a new social hub where women around the world working in fashion, film, media, music and other creative professions can join together to ask questions about their careers, share tips and advice on how to achieve their goals, and generally have a good old chinwag about life.

In the words of Levi’s, it’s “a place to pursue your passion and channel it into something big.” Well, that’s a pretty big promise for an all-new social community, so we popped along to its launch last week to hear a little more about it from the Shape What’s to Come ambassadors.

Please welcome the all-singing, the all-dancing Christian Dior. No, it’s not a joke, but a weird and wonderful reality.

Malcolm McLaren as in Vivienne Westwood’s male counterpart and collaborator, and manager of the Sex Pistols has told WWD that he is planning a musical about the life of Christian Dior.

The musical is reportedly titled ‘The Life and Times of Christian Dior’, McLaren has been working on the concept for the past year and in October 2008, he discussed his inspiration with Interview magazine:

“I began to really read about Paris after the liberation, and about what happened, and about what its youth was, and then suddenly I saw a story that really could define music and fashion and how it all happened after the postwar and where it all went. And if I could do that, and trap it, inside this house of Christian Dior, from its birth in ’47 to Dior’s death in ’57 — that seemed to me something worth really investigating as a musical. And if I didn’t have to do it in the way that musicals were made in the past, then that would be something I would — really fight for. So it was a question of coming up with the vision of how to do that. It’s a sexy story about the time and inside the house and the life and times of Christian Dior.”

The castings will be taking place over the next month in New York and the score will be in tune with 1940s Paris (not punk for all you eager sex pistol fans). McLaren said he can’t quite imagine a singing and dancing Dior, so we will just have to wait and see what he comes up with.

The musical is expected to be ready in the next two years and you can be certain that this will be the most glamorous musical of all time. So you’d better start sourcing your best Dior New Look inspired outfits.
