Tuleh’s Fall 2008 line was in keeping with what critics have been saying about the rest of the Fall 2008 collections (pre-Fall and otherwise); there is a distinct look backwards to the 1940s-60s with regards to tailoring and restrained femininity. Then there is a distinctly modern twist. That said, Tuleh was generally successful in their take on this season’s overarching trend.

Luxe metallics and animal prints, paired with knee-high suede stiletto boots in brilliant shades, made the collection contemporary and gave it a bit of an edge.

Even the name Twinkle by Wenlan makes you smile, so it is difficult to be displeased with the designer’s latest outing. True, it wasn’t groundbreaking, but the label is known for its fun, youthful designs as opposed to plowing into new fashion territory. Simply put, you won’t find a power suit here, or a high-fashion gown. Instead, Wenlan hits a sweet note in between with a mix of wearable dresses and separates.

Ahh, Fashion Week. While many designers are familiar faces in the tents at Bryant Park, there are some who have never before displayed their work in such a high-profile setting. This is especially true of the Academy of Art University show, which showcases the creations of select recent graduates (a distinction that no other fashion school can claim). The excitement in the tent was palpable as the students’ friends and family came to cheer on these newly-minted designers.

Even though Mother Nature was not so kind yesterday, with icy cold rain pouring down the on the first day of Fashion Week, fashion lovers were not deterred and filed into the tents of Bryant Park dressed to impress. Most fashionistas were dressed smartly for the weather – in black frocks layered with stylish coats – and I was able to blend right into the crowd in my black pleated dress and platform boots.

The girls of Lipstick Jungle - Brooke Shields, Kim Raver, and Lindsay Price, and writer/producer, Candace Bushnell started the week off in high style with the official ribbon cutting ceremony at 8 am; And the first show, Nautica, swiftly followed at 9 am in the tents.

New York Fashion Week starts this Friday and all of the fashion world, NYC, and yours truly are atwitter with what designers are going to debut. Will the clean, tailored looks shown last fall influence this season’s collections, and will the colour palette have evolved from the muted whites, greys and blues that dominated the Spring ’08 lines? Only time will tell, but here are a few names to look out for:

Are you excited about Fashion Week yet? We have been since the beginning of the year. And we’re even more ecstatic to discover that the ladies from the new series, Lipstick Jungle along with author and producer of the show Candace Bushnell will be attending the official ribbon cutting ceremony on Feb 1st for NY Fashion Week.

Since Sex and the City departed we’ve been yearning for a show worthy enough to take over where it left off, and after watching the pilot episode of Lipstick Jungle we suspect it might just be a winner!

Just like her tunes, its evident Gwen’s musical influences have heavily inspired her collection. Check out the vid below of the highlights from the show. Is it just me or do you find yourself staring at the accessories rather than the clothes? In particular the bags! I love the bags!

Marchesa
are a starlets dream and have fully cemented their reputation as the go-to label for stunning red carpet dresses. With a definite eastern influence in their SS08 collection and with all the beautifully intricate embellishments clouding our judgement, it was incredibly difficult to choose a standout piece. But in the end it had to be this strapless gown!
