Supermodel, Naomi Campbell and designer, Gavin Douglas (winner of Fashion Fringe 2006) were among 50 black indviduals praised by the Prime Minister Gordon Brown on Wednesday night, at the launch of the Black Britannia photgraphic exhibition at London’s City Hall.
The exhibition aims to “provide inspiration” to today’s generation of black Britons. On display are photographs by Fleet Street’s first black photographer, John Ferguson and profiles of 50 black British individuals who have triumphed in their chosen career.

Sarah Jessica Parker made the headlines this week after speaking out about her hurt feelings upon hearing she was voted Maxim’s un-sexiest woman alive. Granted, its not the best title one can hope to receive.
Most of the stories feature a breakdown of SJP’s earnings, confirming that she’s made £12.5m ($25m) in just 4 years from advertising, movies and collaborations.

Banana Republic, opened its first store in the UK yesterday in Regent Street, London, amidst allegations of promoting unfair working conditions. According to the charity War on Want, workers in its Indian factory are forced to work 70 hours a week for 15p an hour, often receiving only half payments for overtime.
Even worse, the Guardian claims that workers are verbally abused if they dare complain, and petty disputes often result in docked pay.

Anya Hindmarch (handbag designer, famous for the “I’m not a plastic bag” tote) has been targeted for the fourth time in just six months by the infamous smash-and-grab gang. Understandably she is not a happy bunny, sending out a warning to the thieves Anya said,
“Just you wait, I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve and next time you won’t be so lucky.”

Peaches Geldof is keeping herself busy this year. Not only will Sir Bob’s daughter work as a magazine editor for her own reality show, but now WWD confirm she will be turning her hand to fashion design.
For autumn, Peaches will create a capsule collection of dresses, separates, and bags for the label PPQ. Naturally the colour palette of the line will consist of peach and a touch of black.
Founded in 1992, by Percy Parker and Amy Molyneaux, PPQ has gained a loyal customer base and Peaches has been seen on a number of occassions wearing their designs.

The fifth collection from the Kate Moss for Topshop line hits stores today. As with previous collections, the design team at Topshop have taken their cue from Kate’s wardrobe. The result? 50’s inspired dresses, floral and star prints, hints of lace, vintage inspired pieces, skinny jeans (no surprise), a couple of micro hotpants, and a confusing, fringed suede waistcoat.
