Notorious for their witty put downs, Heather and Jessica a.k.a “The Fug Girls” - founders of the insanely addictive Go Fug Yourself - have become the go-to for honest fashion commentary. Capitalizing on their success, “The Fug Girls” have just released their debut book titled “Go Fug Yourself presents The Fug Awards” (stay tuned for a review). Here, they give us their thoughts on the Oscars!
With the exception of Marion Cotillard’s, Jean Paul Gaultier mermaid gown, complete with flaking fish scales and tail (although the dress was a bit too “theme-y”, it was nice to see someone take risks on the red carpet) nearly every leading lady dressed in the classic hues – black and red…feathers, one shoulder, and Grecian-inspired gowns were also big, and simple silhouettes served as a canvas for dripping displays of diamonds.
My favourite look of the night however was Keri Russell who was stunning in a pristine, ethereal, Nina Ricci gown, and the gorgeous 46-carat-diamond necklace draped around her slight frame didn’t hurt the cause.
Black and red appeared to be the popular colour of choice last night at the Oscars, which made for a lack lustre red carpet. But rather than focus on what the majority were wearing, let’s throw the spotlight on the outfits that, for better or worse, did make an impact.
The award for the most unusual outfit of the evening went to Marion Cotillard (pictured above), who sparkled in a figure hugging mermaid like, Jean Paul Gaultier frock.
With the Oscar’s confirmed we’re almost certain the red carpet will be hot, hot, hot! Celebrities are certain to take fashion risks in a bid to make the headlines and goody bag gifts are likely to be more extravagant than ever. According to our sources nominees in the running for an Oscar for best actress will each receive a sexy Victoria’s Secret lingerie set featuring a diamond pendant designed by Heidi Klum for Mouawad. How much is it worth? A cool $7,000!!!
