Pam Hogg was inducted into the Scottish Fashion Awards Hall of Fame last night.

The designer – who is best known for her outrageous 80s fashion collections, which featured catsuits and metallic leggings – was praised by a host of celebrities for her dedication to the fashion industry.
Pam was joined onstage by punk musician Siouxie Sioux, while Blondie star and style icon Debbie Harry paid tribute through a video message.

The Scottish designer – who has dressed Kylie Minogue, Roisin Murphy and Rihanna – announced her return to fashion last year and has since received rave reviews for the Autumn/Winter 09 collection of her new label Hogg Couture.

Meanwhile, newcomer Graeme Black scooped the top prize of Scottish Designer of the Year.

Editor of Vogue.com and award judge Dolly Jones said: “Despite the incredible talent of his competition, it was a pleasure to see Graeme win. His is a classic style infused with modern details, often inspired by his Scottish heritage, so it seems fitting that he should take this year’s prize.”

Other celebrities to walk the tartan-printed carpet included TV presenters Jenni Falconer and Louise Roe, Ultimo founder Michelle Mone and supermodel Jade Parfitt.

The judging panel at the Catwalk Caledonia event at Stirling Castle included supermodel Kirsty Hume, Swarovski crystal’s creative director Nathalie Colin and Vogue’s Kate Phelan.

Pam Hogg’s jumpsuits are infamous. They make women both recoil in fear and fantasise in hope. Since Pam, burst back onto the scene we’ve spotted a few brave souls sporting a catsuit. But last night saw the opening of her pop-up store just off Carnaby Street in London, and the dress code was… tight!

Guests included Roisin Murphy who opted for normal clothes, Peaches Geldof, Jaime Winstone, Anouk Lepere, Tolula Adeyemi as well as Pam herself. They all decided to get involved with all that Lycra and guests were spotted trying on a number of Pam’s space age outfits.

Pam was huge in the 80s and has managed to carve a niche career across the arts from music to fashion to art. Her outfits are pretty quirky and not for the faint hearted.
Although I reckon Anouck’s outfit is probably the most wearable. When I say “wearable” I mean if you happen to be a supermodel and/or have the figure of one.

I don’t know what to make of Pam Hogg’s designs, I do love the outlandishness of them, and I love the panels and colour combos. But to wear a full jumpsuit I don’t think I’m brave enough, I do quite like the dresses.

We never thought we’d be writing about Star Trek on a fashion website, or any website for that matter. But then we spotted some photographs from the premiere which was held last night in London’s Leicester Square. And what was it that caught our eye? Well a Pam Hogg catsuit of course. Pam Hogg catsuits tend to be worn by the daring, the rebellious, the ‘edgy’, but last night it was sported by ex-WAG Claire Merry (Thierry Henry’s ex wife).

At the premiere she posed in all her space age glory. Now this is how a relatively unknown can become “known” just because of a single outfit. Whether you love or hate the look, you have to applaud her for committing to it. It’s a brave woman who dons tight Lycra, thankfully she has a gorgeous figure and good taste in shoes.

But whilst the little known ex-WAG did manage to upstage almost everyone, the cast of the summer blockbuster did hold a respectable front. Zoe Saldana who plays Uhura looked positively radiant in her silver number, and her shoes are absolutely amazing.

The boys were the real stars though, they looked sublime. Eric Bana who plays Nero looked chic in a white shirt and pinstripe suit. Whilst Chris Pine (Captain Kirk), and Zachary Quinto (Spock) looked so gorgeous that we’re actually excited to see the sci-fi flick. Pine’s three piece suit was spot on, and we’re loving Quinto’s skinny tie. Flying the flag for the Brits Simon Pegg who plays Scotty donned a kilt and stylish black shirt/tie combo.

She made her return to the catwalk this year when she sent down a range of her iconic jumpsuits and super tight outfits. Pam Hogg is certainly back with a bang. During the month of May, Pam is to open a pop up shop for just one month in London’s Soho on Newbury Street. The store is a only a few doors down from Pam’s original store back in the 80s. Her new store we’re sure will be a fabulous display of inventiveness and a hint of madness.

In store, shoppers will be treated to t-shirts, plates, matching mugs, posters, badges, signed CDs as well as the Pam Hogg mainline collection. She has created the t-shirts and mugs to be credit crunch friendly aka affordable. But knowing Pam Hogg these won’t be ordinary mugs, you can expect her legendary prints to emblazon them.

Pam is also planning some one off pieces for the store:

“The Carnaby Association had an empty shop, and wanted to put me in. I’ve had my sewing machine out and am making a selection of one-off and totally exclusive cat and kitten suits for the store.

Pam will also be there on the first day if you fancy meeting her for yourself or perhaps to get your catsuit signed.

Fashion week is on so let the front row gossip begin. Now we heard from someone who knows someone who heard from someone that Grazia is saying that Gareth Pugh is definitely moving to Dior Homme.

There have been numerous rumours surrounding this possible move. Ever since big fashion boss’ daughter Delphine Arnault, daughter of LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault sat front row at his menswear show in Paris.

It wasn’t just her presence that caused quite a stir, but she had also gushed about the collection calling it “beautiful. Speculation then ensued over where he might head off to. Then the penny dropped, Dior Homme has somewhat fallen off the radar, and as Delphine was sat at a menswear show rather than waiting for the women’s line, it was decided he was being groomed for Kris van Assche’s job.

Grazia claim that it is definitely happening, with an announcement to be made any day now. I’d have thought that the announcement will be held until Fashion Week moves to Paris. In an even more telling move Gareth Pugh’s Paris show is running directly after Kris Van Assche’s at PFW, both shows are taking place Wednesday 4th March, with Pugh’s venue still unconfirmed.

So we will just have to wait and see, they may make an early announcement in order to sort out fact from fiction. Oh you have to love the front row rumour mill. And speaking of front rows, the man in question has been spotted out and about; last night he took prime position at the eagerly anticipated Pam Hogg show.

The moment we’ve all been waiting for: the first issues of LOVE have been released. It’s a very exciting affair. In a mad frenzy the magazines were grabbed, and a fashionista blood bath ensued.

A slightly calmer scene (by this I mean before crowds were allowed into the store, after that it was bedlam) was at Dover Street Market on Valentine’s where Katie Grand had a very chic love in. At the love in you could pick up objects of love as created by top fashion designers especially for LOVE. These included Pam Hogg mugs, Stella McCartney underwear as well as t-shirts created by GAP featuring the front cover.

One of the most exciting things is that the rumours were true. Fashion whispers proved to be right, Beth Ditto is the covergirl. The front cover has been shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, and is of course styled by Katie Grand. Beth is a perfect choice for the first issue’s cover, acting almost as a muse to Grand, can you remember a Pop without her? And I have to say I’m loving the duck egg blue and hot pink. LOVE intends to be a more ‘real’ magazine, where as Pop was all styling and gloss, LOVE is to be raw. Talking to the Times, Grand explained:

“This time last year I said I really wanted to do an issue with no retouching. I don’t want to see a redrawn image of a woman , I’m just not interested. It feels too glossy, too shallow…

This is further seen in a shoot with Kate Moss, taken in a point and click style at a Madonna concert. The first issue is out officially on Thursday, 19th February and is titled ‘Icons of our Generation’, it costs £5.

As soon as possible we’ll post up some pics so you can have a look for yourself. But for now I hope you’re tantalised by the front cover. But what I’m wondering is; what will become of Pop? The next issue is due out in the autumn; will it be a total re-haul or a LOVE copy?! We’ll just have to wait and see.
