What a disaster! I was not the least bit impressed with the designs that were sent down the runway on Wednesday night.
The challenge was to create a look for Tiki Barber – retired football great and correspondent for the Today show - the winning design to be worn by Tiki on air. Understood, nearly all the designers were making menswear for the first time, but I was shocked to see that many of them didn’t even know how to start a sketch or how to even construct a basic men’s work shirt or slacks. People were knocking over dress forms, cussing at each other, and just at a complete loss over this seemingly straight-forward challenge.

The contestants squealed and burst into tears after learning that Miss Carrie Bradshaw herself, Sarah Jessica Parker, would introduce the next challenge and play guest judge. With a meager $15 budget in mind, the contestants were asked to sketch a two-piece casual sportswear look for SJP’s Bitten line, from which 7 designs would be presented on the runway. The coveted prize? The possibility of having the winning design included in next season’s collection and sold in stores nation-wide.

After watching loads of reruns to get us through the 13 month off-season, our favorite hit reality show, Project Runway finally premiered on Wednesday night! 15 new designers were introduced, all hungry to take the crown. It’s going to be a dramatic season and we’re going to give you the weekly play-by-play.
Here’s our week 1 rundown:
As the intros started, some of the cast seemed oddly familiar. There’s Chris, a flamboyant costume designer, who reminded us of Jay from season 1; Sweet P, an ex-biker chick with tats down her arms, who behaves like the long lost sister of season 3 winner, Jeffrey; and Ricky, a lingerie designer, who was moved to tears within the first few minutes, much like season 3 waterworks, Andrae.
