Next to the Oscars, the Golden Globes are our favourite of the awards ceremonies, which is why we never fail to stay awake for the red carpet arrivals. We don’t want this to sound like an acceptance speech, but we want to thank everyone who kept us company on Twitter and shared their opinions with us in the middle of the night – we love your dedication to fashion! 

This year, we waited with baited breath for Michelle Williams, Rooney Mara and Emma Stone to turn up, and although they all looked beautiful, (put it this way, we wouldn’t put them on a worst dressed list) they didn’t make it on our ‘Top 10’ – simply because we expected something a little more wow-worthy. If Emma Stone had turned up in her green Jason Wu dress from the Critics Choice Awards, she’d be a firm frontrunner for best dressed!

Hollywood royalty Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie on the other hand stole the show, as did Sarah Michelle Gellar, Zooey Deschanel, Claire Danes and Charlize Theron, who all greatly satisfied our fashion taste buds. (You can find them all in our ‘Top 10′ below!)

We think we were most surprised by Ringer (and Buffy, natch) star Sarah Michelle Gellar, as we don’t always get to see her at these events, although we wish she’d show her face more. With a teeny-tiny frame like Sarah’s, it would be easy for her to get lost in the Monique Lhuillier dress her two-year-old reportedly helped her pick (aww!), but she owned it and made it onto our ‘Top 10′ list with ease.

Earlier this week, Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon was spotted carrying a snake-skin Chloe bag which was not only offensive to animal rights activists (naturally), but also illegal in California. PETA has now reportedly asked her to get rid of it and Reese was kind enough to oblige.

“We’ve long known Reese to be a kind person, so we’re pleased – and not surprised – that she is hanging up her python bag for good,” a spokesperson for PETA told Gossip Cop.

“We hope Reese’s honest mistake will serve as a reminder for all of us to be extra-certain that what we’re buying is mock croc or fake snake.”

PETA is also apparently sending Reese a bunch of flowers for agreeing to give the bag up. Aw. But apart from the obvious animal cruelty reasons, why was the bag so offensive to PETA?

“No matter how much Reese paid for the bag, the animals paid a much higher price,” the spokesperson said. “Every year, millions of snakes are impaled on hooks or nailed to trees by their heads and skinned alive. We can’t imagine that she’d wish to contribute to this hidden suffering, especially for something as frivolous as a fashion accessory.”

Reese Witherspoon is always one-to-watch on the red carpet, but last night she let us down.

Walking the red carpet for her new film Water for Elephants, the recently married actress needed to be noticed – sharing the event with limelight-stealing Robert Pattinson is no mean feat – but instead faded into the background with in an unflattering white prom dress hot of Jason Wu’s AW11 runway. 

Whilst we loved the cinched in waist and monochrome colours, the wide cut of the shoulders didn’t flatter the tiny blonde and the satin fabric cheapened what could have been a delightful dress. 

But we adored the actress’s hair and her fuss-free make-up was lovely. 

Maybe it was just the newlywed glow?

As Reese Witherspoon walked down the aisle for the second time on Saturday she ditched the conventional white wedding dress for a more colourful pale pink gown.

The 35 year-old Oscar winning actress teamed her custom made Monique Lhuillier bridal dress with a pair of satin Jimmy Choo platforms sandals – after all, you can’t go wrong with a pair of Choos!

Reese wed her agent hubby at her Ojai, Calif ranch in the US over the weekend and enjoyed a rustic, country-themed affair complete with A-list guests such as Scarlett Johansson and Renee Zellweger.

But the Legally Blonde star didn’t totally bail out on bridal wear tradition as she effortlessly slipped into a short, white cocktail dress for the evenings after party, reports US magazine.

Forget Fifties waves and chic chignons (although they were still in abundance), there was only one hairstyle everyone was talking about at yesterday’s Oscars, and that was the humble pony tail.

And although there was plenty to celebrate on the award front (yes, Colin Firth, we’re talking about you) the dresses took us to a new level of excitement indeed.

Cate Blanchett pushed the proverbial boat out in this blush beaded floor length Givenchy Couture gown from the label’s spring 2011 collection. Flattering her frame to utter perfection, the cut and detail (especially the unexpected flash of yellow beads) shoot her straight to the top of our best dressed list.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow wowed onlookers in this glittering custom-made Calvin Klein Collection gown. The minimalist form-fitting shape and futuristic metallic design made way for an absolute red carpet winner.

Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams dazzled on last night’s red carpet in a beautifully beaded white Chanel Couture gown. With cap sleeves, simple figure-hugging shape and her platinum blonde hair, the actress looked effortlessly beautiful.

Mila Kunis

Style star of the moment Mila Kunis turned up to last night’s award ceremony in a stunning crushed lilac Elie Saab SS11 Haute Couture gown – the soft feminine shape and seductive lace inserts gave Mila that ultimate understated sex appeal.

Halle Berry

The ever-beautiful Halle Berry looked picture perfect in this romantic nude Marchesa number. The fitted basque, all-over embellishment and mermaid tail design all added up to a truly jaw-dropping outfit on the night.
