Fashion designers have long proclaimed outrageous statements about themselves, but the latest one from Domenico Dolce has to be the most egotistical of them all.

Currently touring China with Stefano Gabbana, the pair stopped off at China’s Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing to lecture fashion students on their coveted fashionable knowledge – where one Domenico proclaimed to onlookers he was a ‘fashion priest.’

“Look at me, I am a fashion priest—no boyfriend, no husband, no family, only fashion,” says Domenico.

But before you feel sorry for the man behind half of international fashion label Dolce and Gabbana, just remember his lonely status has been replaced by plenty of money, respect and the fashion world at his fingertips – tough life, eh?

During the extensive Q&A at the Chinese school, the designer-duo explained how they declined invitations to design collections for H&M on three occasions, as they prefer to limit their partnerships to more high-profile candidates such as Scarlett Johansson and Madonna, reports Elle UK – oh lar -dee -dar!

The pair also managed to complement and insult Chinese designers at the same time when it came to their work ethic…

“Some Europeans look at things that come from this country as being lower quality. But we see eccentricity,’” said Dolce.

If only we could have been a fly on that wall.

D&G may be facing a downward spiral with their clothing line but that hasn’t stopped them from branching out. The brand has officially entered the beauty arena with the launch of their first make-up line. That’s right. Now we have more luxurious beauty products to lust after. The debut collection takes inspiration from the Mediterranean and Stefano Gabbana promises rose scented lipsticks.

Speaking to WWD, he added, ‘We wanted to create makeup with a scent. Domenico and I remember when we were children and opened our mother’s handbags — the scent of her lipstick trailed out. I observed that when women open makeup, they smell it first’.

As we expected the packaging is glamorous and a gorgeous shade of gold. Guess who’s fronting the campaign? Scarlett Johansson as a “modern day Marilyn Monroe. Surprised? No, neither are we.

Scarlett Johannson has proved that she is “worth it! L’Oreal has announced that the actress will become the company’s ambassadress, promoting its new nanotechnology-based High Intensity Pigments (HIP) line in an estimated deal of $3 million.

Three campaigns have been shot with Scarlett, one for a new make-up innovation, one for a new body product, and the other for the famous Gloss Glam Shine. L’Oreal hope to make $50 million worth of sales in the first year of the campaign.

Her first television advert will air in the U.S on January 16th and according to Femalefirst, the Hollywood starlet said of the deal,

“It’s wonderful to be working with L’Oreal, a company that has celebrated independent women for years. I’m very excited to be part of this campaign, which is modern and fashion forward.”
