Breaking news this morning: Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon has announced she will be leaving the company she has worked with – and transformed – for over 15 years, along with current chief executive Joshua Schulman. 

“As our Chief Creative Officer Tamara Mellon, OBE steps down, everyone at Jimmy Choo thanks her for 15 years of leadership and creative vision,” the official Jimmy Choo Twitter page stated, which makes us believe Tamara and Joshua’s departure was amicable.

Tamara has witnessed the company grow from a small business set up by Jimmy Choo, a Malaysian cobbler living in east London, to the global phenomenon it is today.

The luxury label now consists of shoes, bags and scarves favoured by some of Tinsel Town’s hottest faces, including Julia Roberts, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez and Sarah Jessica Parker, and let’s face it, no red carpet would be complete without a pair of Choos (or 10).

Though we’re confident the company will continue its success without Tamara at the helm, it does beg the question of what the brand will do without its iconic frontwoman – Ms. Mellon is Jimmy Choo, after all.

Sandra Choi and Simon Holloway will now continue to act as creative directors for the brand, although there is expected to be a replacement for Mr Schulman sometime in the new year.

Remember when the Gucci models strutted down the runway for the label’s autumn/winter 2011 show donning fedoras and fur stoles? We thought it couldn’t get any more glamorous – the ultimate high-fashion way of protecting against the winter elements.

What is that adorable thing draped around Miss Roberts’ neck I hear you ask? No, it’s not her suspiciously like-its-owner pug dog pet, but rather it’s her wonderfully stylish printed scarf from Meg Mathews’ collection for Liberty.

Following the success of her iconic wallpaper prints, Matthews has created a range of beautifully printed silk scarves for Liberty. Available in blue, pink and purple, the Russian Doll scarves make use of micro florals and skulls to create a truly rock-chic accessory.

I have recently invested in an enormous scarf, you know like those ones you see in magazine shoots, which drown the model but nonetheless look incredibly cool. When I say enormous I actually mean gigantic, may take over the world enormous.

Mine is a bright lilac knitted creation from H&M, which is basically a giant loop. I tried an even longer one on but nearly suffocated myself in the process. Now here’s the dilemma, how do you wear a giant scarf without

a) killing yourself

and

b) looking insane

There is something fantastically couture about oversized knitwear, it definitely makes you look skinnier and very on trend. But after you have mastered the art of strangulation avoidance you then need to work out what to wear with such a creation,

It is a statement piece that really would look best with little on, just a retro t-shirt and skinny trousers. But this avoids the purpose of having a huge scarf. Trying it with coats does not look great as it only makes the scarf grow even more, I have decided that it’s probably a leather jacket or blazer job.

If you’re thinking of dabbling in the freakishly large scarf craze then definitely head to H&M, they even have a giant knitted hat. Expect to see these scarves all over the high street, check out Urban Outfitters where the monster as pictured above is from. If you’re still not convinced then why not try a Mongolian sheepskin scarf from Topshop, they’re soft and stylish and Mongolian sheepskin dominated the AW08 catwalks.

Britannia fashion is something that is appearing more and more this season, and Alexander McQueen is, as usual, one of the main contributors! After the skull and butterfly craze, another iconic scarf would have perhaps been too much to ask for – but McQueen never fails to tantalise our “taste”buds.

McQueen isn’t however the only one who has decided to highlight the greatness of Great Britain, other prestigious designers worldwide are recognising London as the capitol of contemporary fashion.
