In more Gossip Girl news, if you’re wondering whom exactly is responsible for the outfits on the show, it is none other than Eric Daman who acts as the show’s costume designer. Remember his name! He looks set to be as loved as Patricia Field…funnily enough he actually worked with Field on Sex and the City.

It seems like I’ve been posting a lot about Patricia Field these past couple of weeks, well I guess I have. But I just had to post this video in which Field talks about how she got to where she is and her work in The Devil Wears Prada and Sex and the City. We also get a glimpse at some of the amazing pieces in her store as modelled by the presenter and Richie Rich, Amanda Lepore among others tell us why Field is such an inspiration. Its a must watch!

Patricia Field: The Stylist that can’t style herself…

As much as I love Patricia Field, she is one stylist (after Rachel Zoe and for different reasons) that will forever baffle me. She’s an amazing stylist, lets face it, Sex and the City would not have been the same without her influence and she consistently makes her clients look nothing short of fabulous. But when it comes to her own personal style, she gets it SO wrong. Her outfit choices are ill-fitting and the colours often clash, and not in a quirky, looks cool kind of way.

Interviews: Celebrity Stylist, Zoe Lem

by Lindsay North

zoe_lem_stylist.jpgIn the world of fashion, Zoe Lem does it all. Whether it’s styling the stars for the red carpet and participants on the UK version of “What Not to Wear”, or flying off to the Middle East to work with the English language version of the Al-Jazeera news network, she’s been there, done that, and with a certain je ne sais quoi. Lem trained as a designer before deciding to focus on styling, and now her work can be seen on A-list celebs, magazine covers, music videos, and a myriad of other places.

So, the favourite question to ask stylists and designers: who would you consider to be your biggest influences?
That really is a difficult one to give a one word answer, I am very inspired by vintage clothing and the 20’s through to 50’s there was such beautiful style. If it’s who rather than what, then there is no one person. But my mother was really so into clothing growing up, even now her favorite shop is Topshop and she has a very funky style. I was brought up on charity shops, markets and finding great bargains in unusual places, a long while before it was cool to go for second hand chic!

The Stylists Code

by Michele Obi

I’m a hoarder. I buy loads of magazines every month, flick through, Rachel Zoe then read them back to back a couple of months later and NEVER throw any away. Which is why I just read L’Wren’s Scott’s interview with Vogue back in November, only last weekend. Scott is so private that the interview lacked personality but she did manage to get in a couple of subtle jibes at Rachel Zoe, although of course she mentioned no names. Her main gripes were stylists who talk about their celebrity clients, style their clients in their image and who get ahead because of whom they know. On one hand she has a point; she holds the old school mentality or rather the stylists’ code of conduct that one should not outshine one’s clients, one which Zoe shows no knowledge of. But when it comes to Zoe I do sit on the fence, mainly because at a time when the lines are so blurred and you have celebrities becoming designers, and vice versa, the old school rules aren’t completely applicable anymore, and I can’t seem to fault her for taking advantage of the blur.

Yes her tactics are tacky, and her work is not revolutionary - although she single-handedly spawned her own trend in 2006- but Zoe is a business woman and with all the projects she’s working on, you have to hand it to her, she’s also a hard worker whom I believe is a stylist that is a product of today’s society that says to get any recognition for your work you need to style a celebrity, you need publicity, you need to be known!

Sienna’s fashion statement

Sienna Miller
As obvious as this is, I didn’t actually see this one coming. Sienna Miller and her sister Savannah have announced that they will be launching their own fashion label, with a name inspired by Sienna’s birthday, “Twenty8Twelve”. Anyone wishing to feel sceptical should know that the venture will most probably be a creative success if their fashion credentials are anything to go by.

Sienna unlike the likes of Nicole Richie, does not hire or fire stylists as she styles herself, while Savannah is a graduate of Central Saint Martins who has lent her talents to Alexander McQueen, Betty Jackson and Matthew Williamson. The collection compiled of 80 pieces will be entitled “An Anthology of Rebellion” and is inspired by “Dickensian London”

Quoted by Style.com, Sienna said of the partnership,

“This isn’t about just lending a name to something and not really being involved.”

Hmmm could she be having a dig at Kate Moss?

Who is Rachel Zoe?

Been spending your days wondering why, Nicole Richie and Lindsay Lohan have gradually started to look like each other? Well wonder no more, their “look” is the work of celebrity stylist of the moment Rachel Zoe.

With a long list of celebrity clients including Kate Hudson, Mischa Barton, Enrique Iglesias and Salma Hayek, Zoe commands up to approx. $6000 a day for her work and is notably more fashion obsessed than most.

Her look is very glam boho, (think 1970’s, Kate Moss and Tom Ford), and in response to her critics who claim she’s simply creating clones of herself, Zoe says,

“I’m not trying to make people look like me. But when you spend a lot of time with someone, you rub off on each other. I think I’m kind of an older sister to Lindsay and Nicole.”
