The (admittedly few) sunny days we’ve had this week have really got us looking forward to warmer months and since we’ve already given our current wardrobe a good old spring clean, we like to think that we deserve a bit of seasonal indulgence.

In an early attempt to create our spring wish list, we’ve compiled some of our favourite pieces for the coming season. If we’re honest, there were a lot more than 20 but we’ve managed to narrow down our options to some key items.

We’ve already taken a look at what Topshop had to offer at the Arcadia SS10 day; now let’s have a peek at what some of some of the other stores had in store:

Miss Selfridge:
Miss Selfridge went all retro fairground on us with an old school carousel, ticket office and fruit machines used as props around the store’s mannequins. The fun setting complemented the strong theme of flirty, romantic dresses and skirts in neutral tones which – teamed with antiquey inspired jewellery – nodded towards the style of Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan. There were also brief apperances of coloured, beaded embellishments and Prada-like heels with scarf ties. Youthful accessories came in the shape of vibrant sweetie charms.

Dorothy Perkins:
DP’s has really concentrated on it’s shoe collection for next season, with an impressive range of heels on show. One particular pair of pink platforms resembled something from Kurt Geiger and the studded courts in black and patent beige were that edgy side of glam.

Clothing wise, romantic frills were seen once again, alongside a spot of the preppy nautical style and one sequinned dress (could the trend be diminishing?) in unusual and striking white.

Wallis:
Wallis came up with a strong collection for next year, showcasing sophisticated handbags and accessories alongside animal print and tribal style clothing in warm, sumptuous hues. polka dot and stripey prints came in monochrome and the more exciting pieces were those that were – again – more neutral. Two winners included the dove grey suede jacket and the asymmetrical zebra print dress. Expect more shoulder pads at Wallis, too.

Evans:
There was a lot of print at Evans, whether it was floral dresses and bags or animal print pumps and bags. The jackets were our favourites – two of which took on the military theme, and another pink tweed number that was certainly inspired by Chanel. Lace was used here again – similiarly to the other Arcadia stores – and the appearance of white crotchet tops definitely brought out the holiday feeling

As one of the UK’s biggest retailers, the Arcadia spring 2010 press day was bound to be a busy affair. Victoria House was packed with fashion insiders including Susie Lau of Style Bubble and the Arcadia man himself, Sir Philip Green, all sneaking a peek at the latest offerings from Topshop, Miss Selfridge, Dorothy Perkins, Wallis, Evans, Topman and Burton. We popped down for a preview and a couple of tiny bowls of sausage and mash. Delish.

Topshop:
While the other Arcadia stores had to share floorspace, Topshop – undoubtedly the shining star of the business – was given a more exclusive feel, with a much larger, separate room for their spring 2010 collections. Topshop shone in the accessories department and we were particularly drawn to some romantic, suede and lace ankle booties, which are perfect for tricky transeasonal dressing. Neutral was key for Topshop, adding detail with buckles, tassels and in one worrying case, espadrille wedges. They’ve also done a pretty good version of the Ray Ban Clubmaster…

Topshop have gone down the predictable route of distressed denim once again – but, they do execute well. This season sees rolled-up, lightwashed jeans teamed with striped crops as well as loose denim jackets having been given the late eighties, early nineties ‘cool’ with their badged effect. With denim being a popular fabric choice of spring 2008, Topshop have sensed the need to update current trends in this time of financial difficulty.

Spring 2010 at Topshop is definitely more of a casual affair. Cutesy ladybird prints and florals appeared briefly in tailored shorts and t-shirts, as did comfy, jersey basics in that straight-out-of-Fame look. The stand out pieces however, were the more elegant items in neutral lace and unusual, digital print. That said we love the laid-back layering of jersey and mesh in this ensemble that reminds us a tad of Helmut Lang…

Jil Sander is back, and this time she’s ditching designer and taking a trip to the high street with a collection for Uniqlo.

The German designer , who left her own label in 2004 after a sour split with the Prada group , has returned to the world of fashion after five years to design a luxe for less +J collection in collaboration with high street store Uniqlo.

Despite her previous stint at the Jil Sander fashion house and Prada , who bought the rights to her name , the minimalist designer has always been intrigued by the high street.

She told the timesonline: “I have always been fascinated by the original concept of high street fashion; by the idea of offering attractive clean-cut clothes to everyone.

The 66-year old designer, who is famed for her luxurious, hi-tech fabrics, striking silhouettes and meticulous detail, has bought her signature style to the Japanese-born high street store.

“I have been very meticulous about detail. Some pieces of the +J collection have been fitted five times, to ensure a flawless, sculptured silhouette and unconditional ease for the wearer, she said.

Sander is the latest in a long list of designers and artists to reveal collaborations with high street chains; Sonia Rykiel has teamed up with H&M, Yasmin Le Bon launched a collection for Wallis and Emma Watson has designed a range for Tree People.

The +J range will arrive in Uniqlo stores nationwide on Thursday 1st October. We can’t wait to get our mits on Sander’s new affordable designs.

Another day, another model jumps on the designer band wagon. Veteran British model Yasmin Le Bon has dipped her trendy toe into Sir Philip Green’s fashion empire as her collection launches at high street store Wallis, part of the fashion mogul’s Arcadia group.

Yasmin invited family and friends along to the Sanderson Hotel last week to celebrate the launch of the collection, which includes floor-length evening dresses, a navy military jacket, a velvet tuxedo suit, and jewellery , all inspired by favourite items from her own wardrobe. Green, who cast his fashion eye over the collection, has given his nod of approval.

He told WWD: “Yasmin is elegant, classy and gets it.

The YLB collection has also been given the seal of approval from Le Bon’s 19-year-old model daughter, Amber, face of vintage-inspired swimwear label Myla.

“There are so many pieces I want to steal, said Amber, who has been a regular face at London Fashion Week this week. “I’ve already got my excuses planned: I’m going to say the pug ate them.

We wonder if that excuse will work for us, too?

Yasmin Le Bon is world renowned for her beauty, her 80′s pop icon husband and now her new collection for Wallis.

Wallis has previously had the reputation of an older woman’s brand, but Yasmin Le Bon’s first collection will most definitely put Wallis into the fore-front of high street fashion.

When entering the show room there were two things that caught my eye. Number 1- The beautiful burgundy, backless goddess dress that gave me immediate envy of the mannequin that was dressed in it.

And number 2- the intricate, ethnic looking jewellery that looked like it had come from Aladdin’s cave. The jewellery collections, on their own, are beautiful pieces that would add texture and depth to any garment but alongside the garments from YLB, they highlight and complement each other perfectly.

The design of the jewellery, as well as other pieces from the collection, is inspired by Yasmin’s Persian heritage. Including her Persian roots into the design process, Yasmin wanted to create ‘a wardrobe I truly want for myself’. And she certainly has done this as she looks wonderful in every one of her creations.

My personal favourites from the collection are the sweeping, to-the-floor dresses that just scream GLAMOUR! The red, burgundy, grey and green dresses are very reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour and also of catwalk designs by Gucci and Versace. Their elegant lines and jewel colours make them stand out in a crowd; this was proven at a recent fundraiser where Yasmin wore one of her designs with pride. I can predict many a young starlet trying to get their hands on these dresses for red carpet events!

It is not only her goddess dresses that echo catwalk creations. Her leather military jacket and her heavy duty military winter coats are similar to Balmain creations for Spring/Summer 2009. They are chic and a great alternative for those who cannot fork out a fortune on the Balmain interpretation of military, gothic glamour.

As well as the bewitching charm of her column dresses and the military-glam catwalk style jackets, Yasmin’s collection holds a very practical approach too. The casual pieces are perfect for office wear and weekend wear without being too dull and formal. The fabrics are luxurious; chiffon, leather and jersey, but they are applied to practical and simplistic designs that create a great capsule wardrobe.

Critics may have seen this collection as the mature woman’s version of Kate Moss at Topshop; however this is certainly not the case. From plain tea dresses in red and black, bang on trend, long sleeved mini dresses in green and black and long sleeved, high necked blouses in navy and green, the collection manages to embody both what young professionals and what yummy mummies want from their wardrobes.

Yasmin’s creations are just what Wallis need for the great British public to become reacquainted with the stylish nature of the high street brand. Yasmin has impressively created her vision; to create a ‘timeless collection.’
