In case you hadn’t noticed, MTV had a little awards party on Sunday.

Yes, the 2011 VMAs took place over the weekend, and though it’s unlikely anyone can trump Beyonce’s baby news with something more exciting, we’re still having fun casting our eagle eye over the sartorial hits and misses today.

And whether it’s Beyonce clutching her baby bump in glowing orange Lanvin, Katy Perry coming as a cake (again) or Lady Gaga dressing as a man, there’s quite the assortment.

From the floor-sweeping gowns that graced the red carpet with aplomb to the what-were-you-thinking disasters that filled us with dread, take a look at our pick of the best and worst dressed from Sunday night’s ceremony (and yes, this does come with a warning).

When we heard Hailee Steinfeld was wearing something other than Miu Miu at last night’s MTV Movie Awards, we won’t lie, we were pretty excited to see what the tween pulled out.

This is the girl, after all, that we fell in love with for wearing a sparkly Miu Miu dress that struck the perfect balance of grown-up and girlie.

But when we caught sight of her in a Louis Vuitton tuxedo suit last night, our hearts sank. Has she forgotten her age? Is this even the same 14-year-old?

Apparently so, only it seems she’s aged 10 years. Honestly, Hailee? Don’t rock Le Smoking style when you’re not legally old enough to buy cigarettes.

Credit where it’s due, her green Edie Parker clutch might be a redeeming factor in injecting a hit of fresh youthfulness, but it’s not enough to turn this miss into a maybe.

We do feel a bit guilty unleashing all this on the young actress, but frankly, we were expecting something far more exciting than an ageing two-piece trouser suit.

Pixie Geldof honoured her best friend designer Henry Holland by wearing one of his creations on the Elle Style Awards red carpet last night. Unfortunately, she chose this long printed dress that aged her far beyond her 20 years.

Combined with the slicked back hair (and desperate-to-be-dyed roots), minimal eye make-up and red lipstick, the look is far too severe, and with such fashion-forward friends surrounding her, we thought she would do a lot better than this.

There’s an obscene amount of pressure to look as cool as you can at such a fashionable event like the Elle Style Awards, and it obviously overwhelmed actress Emilia Fox.

Seperately, they are both lovely pieces but attempting to mesh a very casual T-shirt – designed by Erin O’Conner for Valentine’s day - with a dressy full skirt such is definitely something best left to the more confident fashionista.

The look is too haphazard, let down again by messy hair and mismatching jewellery. Better luck next time.

Jaime Winstone arrived on the red carpet of the Elle Style Awards with a look reminiscent of a a 90s hip hop star (anyone else remember Diddy in those huge fur coats?). 

She’s known for her edgy, grungy style but this is all a bit too much for us – the opaques and heels show off her legs perfectly but the balance is thrown off by the grey handbag and ginormous peacock-green coat. Still, we bet she was a lot warmer than the other scantily-clad attendees.

Donna Air turned up to the Elle Style Awards with beautiful shoes, a great handbag, perfectly styled hair and make-up… and then ruined it all by putting on that jumpsuit.

Unflattering, tacky and cheap-looking, the TV presenter didnt do herself justice in this ensemble. Although a jumpsuit is a great option to be comfortable and cool on a chilly Febuary night, she should’ve gone for a more wearable Seventies style to cement her style credentials – we bet looking like last night’s leftovers wrapped in tin foil wasn’t quite what she was aiming for…

Oh dear. Model Laura Bailey showed up to the most fashionable night of the year in this disasterous ensemble yesterday evening. We think she was aiming for a Fifties look, but the outfit was destroyed by the ill-fitting fabric. And by teaming a light-coloured dress and shoes with black opaques, the skirt length only made her look short and dowdy.

The fabulous Chanel bag would be divine with a different dress, but the most out-of-place accessory has to be that thick black watch. Come on Laura, you can do better than this…
