Harper’s Bazaar UK crowned Sarah Burton the designer of the year for creating Kate Middleton’s iconic wedding dress at the annual Women of the Year Awards last night, and Dame Judi Dench was honoured with the lifetime achievement title – but what other women did the magazine recognise? 

The third annual Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year awards, in association with Estée Lauder and Net-a-Porter, celebrated 15 women that have had a truly remarkable 12 months, including Jessie J, who won Breakthrough of the Year, Helena Bonham Carter, who took Role Model of the Year, Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon, who scooped Businesswoman of the Year and Tom Ford, who was awarded the Man in a Woman’s World accolade.

Supermodels Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Eva Herzigova, Yasmin Le Bon and Cindy Crawford collectively won the Fashion Icons of the Year Award, though we assume their short Girl Panic! film with Duran Duran had something to do with it.

All of the winners are announced in a staggering 56-page spread of interviews and glossy photographs in the December issue of Harper’s Bazaar – out now.

Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Eva Herzigova, Helena Christensen and Yasmin Le Bon have joined forces with the one and only Duran Duran to collaborate on an exclusive film and magazine project.

Some of the first images from the ultimate music and fashion collaboration can be seen in December’s Harper’s Bazaar UK, a whole four days before the world premiere of the short film, entitled Girl Panic! The supermodels and the band got together for music video director genius Jonas Akerlund, where both photoshoot and film took place.

“We have made some pretty ambitious videos over the years, but this one was certainly the most challenging to date,” Simon Le Bon, lead singer of Duran Duran said. “Coordinating the schedules of five of the world’s biggest super models, Jonas, and the band was no easy task – but we couldn’t be happier with the finished film.  It has all of the ingredients that we feel are important – it’s humorous, glamorous, sexy and very Duran Duran.”

We couldn’t agree more! The short film features the supers each dressing up as a member of the iconic band, with Naomi Campbell having the honour of stepping into Simon Le Bon’s shoes. Cindy Crawford and Eva Herzigova pose as John Taylor and Nick Rhodes respectively, while Helena Christensen becomes Roger Taylor and Yasmin le Bon is the anonymous guitarist.

The real Duran Duran make cameo appearances as bellhops, chauffeurs and paparazzi. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana also get in on the action and play the part of Harper’s Bazaar’s guest fashion editors.

Luxury British fashion label Burberry teamed up with London’s Serpentine Gallery to co-host their annual Summer Party last night at Kensington Gardens.

The celebrations saw the unveiling of the new Gallery Pavilion designed by architect Peter Zumthor, with live performances from Burberry Acoustic musicians One Night Only, Life in Film, The Crookes and Misty Miller.

But the musical delights didn’t end there as Alexa Chung and model Tom Guinness performed a DJ set for the high-profile guests – including Bianca Jagger, Yasmin Le Bon, Erdem, Julia Restoin Roitfeld and Burberry models Jourdan Dunn, Lily Donaldson, Cara Delevingne and Tali Lennox – on the night.

“We are proud to be continuing the Burberry history of supporting the arts,” said Burberry Chief Creative Officer, Christopher Bailey.

“It is particularly exciting to be working with the Serpentine Gallery, a space synonymous with creativity in a very iconic British location.”

All proceeds from The Summer Party go directly to the Serpentine’s contemporary art, architecture, design, education and public programmes.

Among the red carpets and ceremonies at Cannes, last night the French Riviera welcomed another starry event – Naomi Campbell’s Fashion For Relief benefit – which saw the super take to the catwalk in a series of gorgeous gowns accompanied by some of her most famous friends in order to raise money for Japan.

Wearing a succession of show-stopping dresses by Yves Saint Laurent, Marchesa and Alexander McQueen, the super shimmied down the runway to rapturous applause.

And so did her friends. Lindsey Wixon – who tripped three times in her gold gown, poor love – Karolina Kurkova and Yasmin Le Bon all took to the catwalk to support Campbell’s charity show, as did Jane Fonda, who looked nothing short of incredible closing the show in Marchesa (seriously, Jane, how do you do it?).

“I hope that the money raised from Fashion For Relief in Cannes will support those who need it most,” Naomi told Handbag – and judging by last night’s success, we reckon it will go some way to doing just that.

Following on from yesterday’s fashion-filled morning of next season catwalk collections, British brand Mulberry continued its celebrations well into the night with an exclusive star-studded after party at London’s Claridges.

Eager to get the party under way and beat the fashion crowd – remember previous seasons’ chaos? – we arrived at the ultra posh venue at 9pm on the dot and entered the ballroom filled to the brim with English countryside quirks and cute stuffed woodland creatures – Mulberry certainly knows how to run with a theme for its quintessential collections.

Taking full advantage of the celeb guests on offer, we found ourselves rubbing shoulders with the likes of Gemma Arterton Jo Wood, Yasmin Le Bon, Kirsten Dunst, Rosamund Pike, Clemence Posey and an ever-hilarious Janice Dickinson whilst dancing to Kele’s live performance and eating classic English canapes like mini toad in the hole, chicken pie and scampi.

But like the much loved Cinderella, we too had to cut the festivities short and leave by the stroke of midnight to avoid a bleary-eyed start to day four’s fashion week shows. Stars gathered at Hampton Court last weekend, for the Raisa Gorbachev Foundation party. Attendees came together to show their support and raise money for the foundation, which is committed to the control and elimination of childhood cancer.

Among those in attendance at the gala were: committee member Hugh Grant, designers Matthew Williamson and Patrick Cox, models Yasmin Le Bon and Lara Stone, and actresses Vanessa Redgrave, Joely Richardson and Angelica Huston.

Scream star Neve Campbell also made an appearance, looking gorgeous in a long-sleeved mini dress from Moschino’s forthcoming AW2010 collection. Showing off those enviable pins and sporting a new, heavy fringe, Campbell looked groomed to perfection in the gold-trimmed number and statement gold cuff.

We quite fancy recreating this simple yet stylish look ourselves, although since we don’t have the patience to wait for Moschino’s next collection, we’ve come up with a few suitable alternatives that will help to achieve a similar look…

When she’s not attacking people with handbags, she’s up the other end of the scale doing good for charity. And though this behaviour confuses us somewhat, thankfully Naomi Campbell’s unleashed her charitable side again, this time joining forces with Brit PM’s wife Sarah Brown to help Haiti victims.

An unlikely pairing it may seem, but the two have rubbed shoulders before at the White Ribbon Alliance event, for which Campbell is an ambassador and Brown a patron.

Naomi’s not the only one joining in Sarah’s charity catwalk campaign: naturally, the supermodel’s enlisted the help of fellow fashion friends Erin O’Connor, Yasmin le Bon and Sheila Atim, among others.

“The British public has been amazingly generous in its response to the tragedy in Haiti,” Sarah told the Daily Mail. “Your donations are already making a massive difference and we can still do more.

Fashion for Relief, which will form part of the London Fashion Week schedule in February, will see Naomi Campbell alongside other supermodels and celebrities modelling designs by the likes of Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Dolce & Gabbana to help raise money for the victims of the Haiti earthquake which, so far, has left two million homeless and over 200,000 dead.
