J.W. Anderson, Erdem and Christopher Kane up for Womenswear Designer of the Year at British Fashion Awards

Last Updated on 23rd October 2014 It’s never easy calling who walk away with the coveted Womenswear Designer of the Year award at the annual British Fashion Awards, and this year we think the decision might be the hardest one ever. J.W. Anderson, Erdem and Christopher Kane are all up the coveted gong, while Christopher Bailey for Burberry, Paul Smith, Tom Ford, and JW Anderson (again) are up for Menswear Designer of the Year. Will young designer J.W. Anderson walk away with least one award? Do you think he can do the double? Anything is possible! Additionally, Anya Hindmarch, Charlotte Olympia and Nicholas Kirkwood are up for Accessories Designer of the Year, while Alexander McQueen, Mary Katrantzou and Roksanda are up for Red Carpet Designer of the Year. Cara Delevingne is up against her BFF Jourdan Dunn and Sam Rollinson for the Model of the Year prize – do you think there will be any animosity between them on the night? We doubt it! The British Fashion Awards will take place on December 1st at the London Coliseum, and will once again be hosted by Jack Whitehall after he did such a good job last year. Christopher Kane gets new CEO

Last Updated on 22nd October 2014 Christopher Kane announced some big changes this morning, as it’s just been confirmed that current CEO Alexandre de Brettes will be replaced by Sarah Crook. “I would like to warmly thank Alexandre de Brettes for his dedication to Christopher Kane and for having successfully accomplished the integration of the brand within the Kering group,” said Marco Bizzarri, a spokesperson for Kering. We think Christopher Kane is in good hands, as Sarah Crook has worked with Stella McCartney, and is also the strategic brand and business consultant to the British Fashion Council. A bit of a mouthful but it certainly proves that she is more than capable of doing the job. We can’t wait to see what she brings to the table! Congrats on the new job, Sarah! [Vogue]

London Fashion Week SS15 highlights from Burberry, Tom Ford, Christopher Kane and more!

Last Updated on 16th September 2014 There were two surprises on the Burberry Prorsum catwalk yesterday afternoon. One – the absence of heels. And two – the absence of Cara Delevingne. Instead, the show was closed by Bradley Cooper’s very lucky and very gorgeous girlfriend Suki Waterhouse – a sign that she is becoming the new Cara perhaps? – while Cara herself joined the likes of Kate Moss and other A-listers on the front row. Do you think she had catwalk envy and FOMO? Elsewhere in London, we saw a very rock ‘n’ roll collection from Tom Ford, who definitely pulled out all the stops for his London Fashion Week show. Heels and stockings were high, and hemlines were low and practically non-existent; it was dark, it was daring, it was provocative, it was overtly sexual – it was Tom Ford in a nutshell! It wasn’t all sordid outfits that Rihanna and Miley Cyrus would be fighting over though, as there was an element of 70s glam rock in there too thanks to the flared sparkly gold trousers – possibly our favourite piece from the entire collection! Take a look at the rest of our highlights from London Fashion Week below and let us know what you think of the latest collections to debut… Burberry Tom Ford Roksanda Christopher Kane

Jennifer Hudson vs. Chloë Moretz…who wore Christopher Kane better?

Remember this Christopher Kane beauty we brought you? Well, when we saw two of our favourite A-listers sporting the very same dress, naturally we had to weigh in on this sartorial situation. Jennifer Hudson and Chloë Moretz stepped out in the same Christopher Kane bandage dress, albeit weeks apart, and to a very different effect. A riot of colour against a form-fitting black dress makes for easy-on-the-eye style, hence making our decision to pick a winner even tougher! Chloë got first dibs on said dress, wearing it to the Teen Choice Awards back in August, and even landing a spot on our Best Dressed list! Styled with a wispy down-do and ankle-strap sandals, minimal make-up completed the look. Jennifer attended Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy party last week in the dress, completing her look with a red box clutch, bold lips, black pumps and a texturised pixie cut. Major hair love going out to you, Jen! But, as it’s a frock-off there can only be one winner….and, this week, we’re once again crowing glorious the uber-talented (and stylish) Chloe! Safe to say, this dress hardly needs any help stealing attention, and Jennifer’s accessorising efforts are a little wasted on her look. Agree with our style verdict? Whose look wins for you? Christopher Kane bandage dress: Yay or Nay?

New year, new dress. You know the drill! But we’re not talking any old yawn-inducing number. No. Turn your attention to this eye-catching creation from British fashion genius, Christopher Kane. Spring/summer 2014 was all about show-stopping numbers splashed in painterly designs, and Kane’s take on the season’s colour-crazed affair, with the elastic-panelled bandage dress (£1,100), is a tamed version for the more refined dress wearers among us. The flattering fit, sexy, off-the-shoulder detail and striking effect of primary colours on a black background give this dress serious look-at-me appeal, but would you take the plunge and own it? Check out the reasons we’re saying yay and (very sensibly) nay to this Kane delight below… Yay Updated LBD: We’re always behind a spin on the classic LBD, and this dress offers the perfect excuse to flip the evening classic on its head for some fashion fun. Flattering fit: The stretch-jersey fabric and bandage style of this dress make for a form-flattering silhouette. Perfect, if you’re planning to show off your curves Kim K style. Great length: The knee-length cut makes it an ideal contender for the office – if you’re one of the lucky creative types with a fashion-forward boss, that is!  Nay Trend-centric: Season in, season out, Kane’s dresses are the must-have piece (loop tape velvet dress, anyone?), so you’re guaranteed to find this dress on a legion of Kane’s fans. Price: Sitting pretty at a hefty £1,100, your bank balance won’t be looking so smug post-purchase! One-wear dress: Although the brights-against-black contrast is a winner, how many times can you (honestly) say you will make a repeat-wear with this number? If it’s destined for the one-wear-then-despair pile, steer clear. But, if you love bringing back seasonal big-hitters, shop away. Christopher Kane elastic-panelled bandage dress, £1,100, available at Liberty.

Laura Whitmore does sheer, sexy, gothic glam in Christopher Kane

Last Updated on 10th October 2013 Congratulations to Christopher Kane, as he was the recipient of the coveted Scottish Designer of the Year award at last night’s – yep, you guessed it – Scottish Fashion Awards. And who better to showcase his work than the wonderful Laura Whitmore, eh? The gorgeous Irish TV presenter donned a black and sheer sexy mini dress from the designer’s pre-fall 2013 collection, showing the world what Christopher Kane is capable of achieving. She let the sexy yet romantic yet gothic dress to all the talking (quite right, too!) by opting to wear her hair off her face in a chic up-do, and keeping accessories to a minimum. We love the strappy peep-toe Kurt Keiger sandals she finished her look off with – we couldn’t have picked a better pair of shoes for the outfit if we tried. Top marks to Laura Whitmore and Christopher Kane for making this happen! Head to the Selfridges website if you want to get the dress for yourself – there are only a few sizes left so be quick! Christopher Kane Brain Scan Sweatshirt: Yay or Nay?

Last Updated on 19th October 2013 Pushing aside spotlight pieces such as the It bag and must-have shoe, sweatshirts have quietly been working up a sartorial storm. Finding its way out of an Eighties gym setting into our wardrobes, and making us want to wear it with everything from a lace midi skirt to boyfriend jeans, the sweatshirt is a versatile, multi-wear investment you’ll return to, season on season. So when the demi-god of all things cool to roll off the British fashion runway, Christopher Kane, gave us a brain scan print sweatshirt to ogle (whilst lusting after everything in the autumn/winter 2013 collection), we couldn’t help but put it under the Yay or Nay spotlight. We wouldn’t expect anything conventional from the rule-massacring Kane, but an MRI-inspired print to adorn an everyday staple is quite something! But before adding it to your statement top repertoire, check out the reasons we’re saying yes (and no) to the brain scan print sweatshirt below. Yay Statement piece: Undoubtedly leading the way when it comes to statement sweatshirts, the brain scan sweat is perfect for breaking out of a fashion wallflower rut. Versatile: The styling opportunities are endless; thanks to the new luxe status the humble sweatshirt has been afforded. Colour: Brights on a black backdrop provide an easy canvas to style as you wish – the best way to slowly introduce bold pieces into your wardrobe.  Nay Trend-centric: Given it was one of the wow-inducing pieces for the fall 2013 collection, and had every fashion bod talking about it (guilty as charged), don’t be surprised if, come fashion week, there’s a little Brain Scan Tribe trotting around Somerset House! Price: £275 may not sound like such a huge sum, but when you’re forking it out on a trend-led piece that you’ll probably […]

Christopher Kane Baby Frankenstein Embossed Leather Bag: Yay or Nay?

Last Updated on 19th October 2013 Casting quite the spell with yet another stunning collection for autumn/winter 2013/14, Christopher Kane is once again on our Yay or Nay radar. This time, the Baby Frankenstein bag takes centre stage, as we ponder over the pros and cons of getting our handbag hungry mitts on this avant garde beauty. We call it this because, just like the character it’s named after (the bolt top handle is a big giveaway) this bag made us look twice. ‘Ugly’ in an intriguing way (if that makes sense!), the Baby Frankenstein is a mash-up of Kane’s alternative vision; combining wearability with superior design credentials, this clutch-tote mash-up will effortlessly serve as a conversation starter. In this season’s most desirable hue, white, the floral embossed-leather bag has a button fastened front flap and an optional clear-plastic large bolt top-handle. Here are our reasons for and against investing in the Baby Frankenstein: Yay On trend: The spring 2013 runways called for a whitewash, and the Baby Frankenstein takes this colour trend on board perfectly. A bag is an easy way to tap into a trend without outfit overkill. 2-for-1 bag: The detachable bolt top-handle allows this bag to become an evening-perfect clutch and a day appropriate tote, all at once. So, the hefty fee you pay allows the Baby Frankenstein to fall into the buy one, get one free territory. Savvy shopping or what! Directional-yet-pretty: Perfectly embodying Kane’s style aesthetic, the Baby Frankenstein effortlessly marries everyday use with surprising detail. The floral embossed detail is feminine, yet the clear plastic handle brings out the bag’s (and the Kane woman’s) second style personality. Nay Price: Erm, a clutch-sized double bag for £1,500? Is that our bank balance we can hear wailing in deep agony? Stain easily: As much as […]

PPR buys 51% stake in Christopher Kane

Last Updated on 15th January 2013 There have been rumours about the future of Christopher Kane floating around the blogosphere for quite some time now, but it’s now been officially confirmed that French luxury multinational company PPR has bought a majority stake (51%) in the Scottish designer’s brand. “We are very excited and honoured to be partnering with PPR for the next stage of development for our brand,” Christopher Kane said. “PPR has an incredible reputation for building some of the very best luxury brands in the world. They respect our creative vision and they have the expertise and experience to help us build the Christopher Kane brand globally.” The Christopher Kane brand now joins the likes of Alexander McQueen, Gucci and Stella McCartney, so it’s safe to say the brand in safe hands and in good company. Both PPR and Mr Kane seem to be pretty pleased with the new deal, so we’re quite excited to see how things will develop over the next few seasons. Watch this space! [Vogue]

Christopher Kane Dutch-print Princess Dress: Yay or nay?

Last Updated on 19th October 2013 As well as being the darling of London Fashion Week, Christopher Kane’s directional-yet-wearable designs translate perfectly off-catwalk, too. Point in case: the stunning Dutch-print dress we can’t get enough off. But being a high-end piece with a pocket-emptying price tag, it’s important to patiently consider such a purchase before going in for the (sartorial) kill. Well, can you blame us? A stunning, silk-organza fusion of Kane’s incredibly design ability, the Dutch-print dress boasts a beautifully ambiguous black brush stroke and blue flower print. Sheer chiffon inserts splicing the dress add edge, whilst a feminine princess cut makes it a sure-fire party staple. In line with your honed-to-perfection shopping savvy, we weighed up the pros and cons of the Dutch-print dress, so when it comes to crunch, or rather, ‘click’ time, you’re decision is a stylistically sound one. After all, we are dealing with the delicate matter of a ridiculously beautiful dress. Yay: Banishes the ‘wear once’ rule: the mix of unique prints won’t leave you trend-confined and will mean you can get more wear out of your dress – something that is often not the case with statement pieces. Dual purpose dressing: The subtle colour and softly-spread print makes the Dutch-print dress the ideal candidate for a day-to-night, office-to-drink style situation. Dress up with glam heels and a clutch, or down with a well-cut jacket and simple mid-heel pumps (how very K Middy!). Fashion-forward yet feminine: Kane’s creations don’t necessarily bow to an overly feminine aesthetic – he balances out the ladylike silhouette with concealed pockets and cleverly inserted chiffon slices, because every fashion-lover knows Kane’s designs demand ethereal to be mixed with edgy. The perfect option for tomboyish fashionistas amongst us!   Nay: Dry clean only: footing a hefty cleaning bill after forking out a fortune […]

Has Christopher Kane left Versus for Balenciaga?

Last Updated on 20th November 2012 Christopher Kane’s name has been everywhere these past few days. Hot on the heels of those Balenciaga rumours, it’s now been announced that he will be leaving his designer position at Versace sister line, Versus. “I am so grateful to Donatella Versace for her support and the incredible opportunities she has given me,” he told WWD. “I respect her enormously and have learned so much from her. I have loved and appreciated working with her and will always be indebted to her. “I am excited about the new Versus strategy, but the time has come to dedicate all my focus to the future of the Christopher Kane label.” Did he accidentally-on-purpose miss out Balenciaga in that final sentence or was he telling the truth when he said he wouldn’t be replacing Nicolas Ghesquière as the brand’s creative director? All will (hopefully) be revealed very soon so watch this space! [Telegraph]

Christopher Kane denies Balenciaga rumours

Last Updated on 19th November 2012 At the end of last week it was rumoured that Christopher Kane might take over Nicolas Ghesquière’s job as creative director of Balenciaga, although his people were quick to deny the speculation. “Rumours surrounding Christopher Kane’s appointment as creative director of Balenciaga are unfounded,” a spokesperson for Christopher Kane reportedly said. Still, if history has taught us anything, it’s that we shouldn’t ever rule anything out, so we’re still remaining open minded and won’t be too surprised if we do see Christopher Kane get comfy at Balenciaga. The deadline to find a new creative director is approaching fast though, as Nicolas’s days at Balenciaga are numbered so a decision needs to be made soon… Who do you think should replace him? Would you like Christopher Kane to replace Nicolas Ghesquière? If not, who do you think would be right for the job? [Styleite]

Best Dressed of the Week: Kate Middleton in custom Christopher Kane at the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony

We’ve been waiting for the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony for what seems like forever, and as much as we were looking forward to seeing the extravaganza Danny Boyle had secretly been working on all this time, we were most excited about seeing what, or should we say who, Kate Middleton would wear for such an historic occasion. As usual, we weren’t disappointed; the Duchess of Cambridge looked beyond exquisite in a silk satin ice blue coatdress, which was made especially for her by Scottish designer Christopher Kane. We adore her elegant and occasion-appropriate sartorial choice, but we’d be lying if we said we weren’t shocked by her decision to wear a Christopher Kane design. Even though we fully expected Kate to support a British designer, we thought it would have been something along the lines of one of her go-to designers such as Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, Jenny Packham or Stella McCartney. Even though you look flawless in absolutely everything Kate, we would quite like more style surprises like this please!

Christopher Kane NOT heading to Dior, Raf Simons “unceremoniously dumped” from Jil Sander

Last Updated on 29th February 2012 More fashion house musical chairs this morning! Not only have the rumours of Raf Simons replacing John Galliano at Dior been pulled into question due to an article published by Bridget Foley in her WWD column claiming he was “unceremoniously dumped” from Jil Sander (possibly to make room for Jil to return to her eponymous label), but the short-lived rumours of Christopher Kane being in the running for the coveted job have also been squashed. Love or Hate? Christopher Kane Wool Crepe Trousers

Last Updated on 10th June 2016 We all know and love Christopher Kane for his use of colour. Remember the fluorescent leather suits in his Spring 2011 collection? Quite a spectacle, right? Well, we loved it, and in our eyes, Kane can do no wrong (we’re still swooning over his oh-so-pretty Spring/Summer 2012 presentation…) However, we can see how these neon pink wool crepe trousers may not be to everyone’s liking. Fluorescents have a bit of a bad rep….previously only seen on the road-wary cyclist’s jacket and, erm, highlighter pens, neon isn’t really considered the natural hue of choice when opting for a pair of winter trousers. But somehow, Kane just makes it work… He keeps the style simple and tailored to play down the strong colour choice, and suddenly, we’re all questioning why we haven’t always donned neon on our pins! Well, that’s what we think anyway – but what about you? Are you coveting Kane’s fluorescent vision, or are you leaving the brights to the brave and bold? Christopher Kane Wool Crepe Trousers, £605, available from Mytheresa.com.

London Fashion Week SS12: Christopher Kane

Last Updated on 19th October 2013 Who: Christopher Kane What: High shimmer, strategically slashed leather; glistening short suits; brocade mini dresses; floral applique and twinkling embellishment. Highlights: Subtle embroidery that looks almost wet from a distance, clean cuts and breathtaking attention to detail, especially in decadent embellishment. Lowlights: The flip-flops (sorry). Overall: Christopher Kane’s space-age theme hasn’t waned – instead it’s grown up, simplified and strengthened. In what’s, perhaps, one of the most talked about shows of London Fashion Week this season, the Scottish designer sent a string of streamlined dresses and separates in shimmering leather down the runway, delicately embroidered in silver and gold so that from a distance it appeared almost wet to the touch. Shift dresses featured slashes across the hips and elbow, mini brocade dresses came in bronze or pale gold and small A-line skirts in pale mint were teamed with sleeveless golf sweaters. Pieces that weren’t embroidered were printed with bold, glittering flowers in electric cobalt blue or black and white, but the best pieces by far were Kane’s embellished creations. Encrusted mini skirts, jackets and mini dresses, densely packed with sparkling crystals, gave a completely contemporary approach to the art and felt effortless despite their extravagance. It’s a stunning collection from Christopher Kane next spring, and though this may seem like one big gush, that boy is one clever, clever man. Love or Hate: Christopher Kane galaxy print silk biker jacket

Last Updated on 19th October 2013 I’m a bit of a geek when it comes to the Universe. I love watching those television programmes on space and fought for a front row seat at a Brian Cox lecture. I always think there is something really dreamy and majestic about images of space. Christopher Kane’s designs are always so unusual. His atomic bomb print tees a few seasons ago were amazing, but his astronomical print even better. This galaxy print silk biker jacket is the highlight of his collection, and a statement piece to say the least. Everything about it is fantastic, from the attached mini skirt to the frilly cuffs. The silver zip details and neat collar are cute little design features, but the print is incredible. With this piece, anybody could be celestially fabulous. The way I see it, this was made to be worn with black – slim-fit trousers, heavy-weight leggings or skinny jeans being the best options. When they start doing those day trips into space, we’ve found our perfect outfit… Christopher Kane galaxy print silk biker jacket with skirt, £1690, available at Browns. BUY NOW!

London Fashion Week AW11: Christopher Kane

Last Updated on 23rd February 2011 Who: Christopher Kane What: Crochet-printed leather, minimalist tailoring and colourful, squidgy, touchable shapes. Thoughts: We just can’t guess what’s coming from Kane – season after season he delivers something strange but exciting, and autumn/winter 2011 is no different. Your grandma may not be your first stop for sartorial inspiration, but her earnest companion will have you seeing her in a whole new light next season as Christopher takes the coloured crochet blanket centre stage, printing it on black leather T-shirts and jackets, pencil skirts, dresses and cardigans. The result, of course, is incredibly cool and offers a need-to-touch textured illusion whilst remaining remarkably sleek amidst his minimalist silhouette. But naturally, he ups the ante. Where tailoring is perfectly cut and simplistic – a black collarless coat is the ultimate in understated luxury – details become wonderfully wacky with plastic liquid-filled elements reminiscent of heyday pencil cases or those miracle headache pads that don’t actually work. Cut into squiggly shapes in vivid colours, they become necklines on dresses, collars, trims of pockets, panels or tops in their own right in blues and greens for a sea-like semblance or pinky-reds and yellows like spiritual sunsets. It may mean every piece isn’t as wearable as previous seasons’, but Kane’s exquisite cut and inclination for crazy is as exciting as ever.

It’s not going to be launched until August yet it already has fashionistas in a bit of a frenzy. Kane has produced a line for Topshop before back in 2007 but apparently his 2009 offering is the best yet. Talking about the range he told Grazia: “This is more than a capsule collection. It’s proper: with bags, shoes, knitwear and dresses. It’s nothing like any other work I’ve done in the past. Everything is a bit “wow”. But If I tell you any more, I’ll be giving the theme away. He then went onto say that embellishment would be involved, that it will be colourful and full of surprises. Oh we do love surprises! According to the man himself “Girls are gonna go crazy for it!. He’s certainly hyping it up so it must be good. We are so excited it’s unbelievable. Watch this space Christopher Kane lovers this may well be the collaboration of the year. Oh and don’t forget

Christopher Kane breathes new life into Versus

Last Updated on 3rd March 2009 Its’ been 20 years since Gianni Versace first launched the diffusion line Versus and 5 years since it’s last instalment. But in Milan on Sunday the label was relaunched with the help of fashion’s darling, Christopher Kane. For AW09, Donatella Versace recruited the Scottish designer to produce a capsule collection of accessories for Versus and true to form Kane delivered. The collection which Kane describes as “tough and glamour, effervescent and rock ‘n’ roll, includes leather structured totes, handbags, evening clutches, platform ankle boots, gladiator sandals and cut out high heeled sandals. Most items are embellished with crystals for heightened glamour and retain an edge of toughness with lots of metal hardware. Chunky steel jewelry and chain necklaces also make up the collection which was inspired by three main visible themes ,the diamond, the geometric pattern of the labyrinth (most evident on the handbags) and the Moschettone. On her choice of partner, Donatella Versace said: “Christopher is a highly creative young designer and his work impressed me from the very beginning. His Rock’n Roll style is very powerful, glamorous and sensual, perfectly in tune with the mood of Versus, which was always intended for young people who want clothes that project a personal style that is constantly evolving” Spring 2010 will see the launch of both men’s wear and women’s wear. London Fashion Week: Christopher Kane AW09

Last Updated on 19th October 2013 For the Spring/Summer 09 shows, I appeared to be one of the only people who wasn’t in awe of Kane’s offering. Kane Rocks!

Last Updated on 19th October 2013 Happy days! Christopher Kane will be rocking with the big boys at this years Swarovski Fashion Rocks for the Prince’s Trust. Bearing in mind Kane only launched his label a year ago, this is a major accomplishment for the designer who’ll be presenting his Spring 2008 collection alongside top fashion houses including Chanel, Burberry and Armani on Oct 18 at the Royal Albert Hall. But here comes the dilemma…which singer should front his show? According to Vogue Kane says he has Beth Ditto or Iggy Pop in mind….I say Beth Ditto. Failing that I’m thinking Amy Winehouse? But she’d have to finally shed the beehive. What do you guys think? Which female artist should perform the accompanying music to Kane’s show? [Image:Flickr]

Last Updated on 21st July 2017 With autumn/winter on it’s way, you’re bound to have warm clothing (especially knitwear) on the brain. With this in mind, we felt it was the right time to introduce a designer we simply can’t get enough of – Alice Ashby. A Central St Martins graduate and previously a knitwear designer at Rag & Bone, Alice launched her label Blake LDN in 2012. Offering a collection of effortlessly cool, luxurious and best of all, conscious knitwear, Blake LDN is a must for investment pieces that’ll last a lifetime. What does a typical work day for you consist of? Running your own company means that each day is totally different depending what time of the year it is, which I love. If I’m not researching and designing a new collection. A typical day could be – checking all online orders have been despatched, visiting and checking up on production/ sampling with our factories and making sure everything is on time with our production schedules and therefore deliveries to our stockists (very important!) Meeting with press contacts and meeting with our head of marketing to plan next months content across SM & our blog. Planning shoots, for campaigns/ look books/ website etc. What’s the most enjoyable and the most challenging aspect of your job? The most enjoyable is seeing the collection come to life be in on a shoot or during London/Paris Fashion Week – where you realise that all the hard work has paid off. Each season we are increasing stockists which is a very rewarding part of the job as well, we are expanding into South Korea and Asia next season which is really exciting. The most challenging, is making sure all the above is kept on track and the balls don’t fall down! Everyone will […]

The British Style Award nominees are in! Who will you vote for?

Last Updated on 30th October 2014 Although the coveted Womenswear Designer of the Year award at the British Fashion Awards is out of our hands (and we’re kind of glad about it too, as we couldn’t possibly choose between JW Anderson, Christopher Kane and Erdem!), we do actually have a say in who walks away with the British Style Award. The 20 nominees have been released today, and it looks like the competition is fiercer than ever. There’s a real mixed bag of famous faces in there – from models to actresses to human rights lawyers – but there’s one thing they all have in common and that’s impeccable style. We think we’re going to take a while to cast our votes… The ten boys who have been shortlisted are, in no particular order, Douglas Booth, Benedict Cumberbatch , Ralph Fiennes, Bobby Gillespie. David Beckham, Daniel Sturridge, David Gandy, Idris Elba, Jamie Hine and Tinie Tempah. The ten girl who have been nominated are, once again in no particular order because we don’t want to influence you, Cara Delevingne, Emma Watson, FKA Twigs, Amal Cooney, Dame Helen Mirren, Kate Moss, Kate Bush, Rita Ora, Jourdan Dunn and Keira Knightley. Phew! There is also an “other” box to tick if you think someone else deserves the award (Kate Middleton or Harry Styles, perhaps?). Voting closes on November 5th, and everyone who votes will be entered into a prize draw to win 2 tickets to attend the awards ceremony on December 1st. So, get voting!

Lily Collins stuns on Marie Claire UK’s October issue

Last Updated on 8th September 2014 The gorgeous rising star that is Lily Collins has landed the Marie Claire UK October cover – and we have to say that we love the natural-looking shot so expertly captured by David Roemer. The photographer shoots the 25-year-old actress in some utterly stunning pieces from Emilia Wickstead, Christopher Kane, Giles, Valentino, and more. Although Collins is a popular surname, you’d be right if you think she had some sort of relation to Phil Collins, as she is in fact his daughter. Don’t for a moment think that he is the only reason she is successful though… “When I first met with agents I was asked, “Well, what makes you so special? Everybody in LA is a cousin or a daughter of someone’,” she said. “At the beginning, that was the most interesting thing about me. Now I’ve done eight films, it’s an afterthought. I get kids who say, ‘Oh, I love your movie, but my mum loves your dad.’ It’s really nice to be able to share that with him, but it doesn’t define who I am career-wise.” We’ll say! You can read the rest of the interview – where she also talks about the pressures surrounding Kristen Stewart and other actresses her age – in the Marie Claire UK October issue – out now!

Kate Upton lands Elle UK September issue cover!

Last Updated on 25th July 2014 And so it begins! The very first of the September issue covers has made its way onto the world wide web (God bless the internet!), and it’s none other than supermodel of the moment Kate Upton posing pretty for Elle UK. Well deserved, Kate! The former Sports Illustrated model is rocking a stunning Prada coat on the cover, which definitely softens the summer to autumn transition blow. We are totally okay with putting the bikinis away for another season if it means we can bring the stunning autumn/winter coats out. Do you agree? Inside the mag, Kate models some killer threads from the likes of Christopher Kane and Burberry, among others, and opens up about her modelling – including her epic body transformation… “When I first started modelling, I was a normal catalogue model,” she told the mag. “Then, I became a woman, and I was really excited about becoming a woman. Because I’m from Florida, it’s all about being in bathing suits. It’s a different view of beauty there. You are ugly if you don’t have a curvy body. And I didn’t have one, and then I got one, and thought, ‘Yessss!’” We would also think “Yessss” if we had her body too! The Elle UK September issue is out on August 1st so make sure you head to your local newsagent and snap it up fast. Don’t be alarmed if you have to fend off a few men for the last copy, either.

Cheryl Cole wows in DSquared2 and Philosophy for Elle UK August cover

Last Updated on 19th June 2014 We’ve barely flicked through all the July fashion glossies – and are still waiting patiently for the American Vogue July cover to surface – so we haven’t even started thinking about August issues yet. But lo and behold, the Elle UK August cover has found itself online and we’re not gonna lie – we’re pretty grateful that it has. We’re so thankful that the cover has arrived sooner rather than later, as it features the one and only Miss Cheryl Cole. How incredible does she look on the cover? Cheryl was shot by Ben Morris, and is rocking a pretty drool-worthy selection of designer threads on the cover and editorial shoot, including pieces from Gucci, J Brand, Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, Burberry and Christopher Kane. Oh and in case you wanted to know what she’s wearing on the cover, it’s DSquared2, Philosophy and Manolo Blahnik. Phew – we think that’s everything! This is one issue of the fashion glossy that you won’t want to miss, as Cheryl opens up about some pretty deep subjects, including being on the verge of a breakdown, how she feels about having children, and why she chose to return to The X Factor. Like we said, it’s un-missable!

Peter Pilotto wins this year’s BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund!

Last Updated on 29th January 2014 Huge congratulations to Peter Pilotto, as the label has walked away with the coveted 2014 BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund prize of £200,000 and money-can’t-buy mentorship. The boys – Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos – beat off extremely stiff competition from Mary Katrantzou, Emilia Wickstead, House of Holland, Osman and Zoe Jordan for the prize; talk about a fierce competition! “Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos are an incredibly dynamic design team, who since launching their label in 2007, have won the hearts and minds of the industry and the public with their vibrant colours and unforgettable prints,” said Caroline Rush, chief executive of the British Fashion Council. “They demonstrated they are a thriving fashion label with a great vision to take the next step in building a global designer fashion brand.” We can’t argue with that. And with the success of the winners of the past – Nicholas Kirkwood (who walked away with last year’s prize), Jonathan Saunders, Christopher Kane and Erdem who scooped the prize back in 2010 – we feel that the Peter Pilotto brand will get even bigger and even better. Congrats again, boys! [Vogue]

Trend alert: Grunge!

If you paid attention to some of the biggest spring/summer 2014 catwalk shows, then you’ll already know that grunge is making a huge comeback for the new season. Hedi Slimane was all about grunge and rock ‘n’ roll for the Saint Laurent spring/summer 2014 show, and Marc Jacobs also went dark and alternative for his final Louis Vuitton collection. (A great way to bow out, don’t you think?) So, with two of the biggest fashion players championing the trend, we have every reason to get behind it too! We’ve already seen the celebs try their hand at the grunge trend by incorporating certain aspects into their red carpet outfits and as they go about their everyday lives, and now you can get in on the trend too with these very basic items. 1. Our top pick for going grunge is a leather jacket. Nothing says attitude better than a fierce bit of leather draped across your shoulders, and this Christopher Kane jacket is the perfect hue to wear over the rest of your black clothes and accessories. Christopher Kane cracked leather biker jacket, £2,490 £871.50 2. Make your eyes stand out by lining them with the darkest and boldest hue of black eyeliner you can find. Yves Saint Laurent black eyeliner, £24 3. A great thing about the grunge trend is being able to wear flats; black leather boots will not only convey attitude, but you’ll be super warm and comfy in the process too. You can be bad-ass without putting your feet through hell, too! Dune Black leather biker boots, £195 4. The more studs and spikes in your accessories, the better! This clutch bag pretty much has it all, doesn’t it? Pierre Balmain studded clutch, £593.91 £386.04 5. A band tee is the final step to completing your […]
