Dita von Teese and Blake Lively attend Van Cleef & Arpels New York Maison reopening

Last Updated on 13th December 2013 One of the biggest events of the week came from Van Cleef & Arpels, as it celebrated the reopening of its legendary Fifth Avenue Maison with the unveiling of a new tri-level townhouse. The newly redesigned space feature some of the most exquisite pieces both from around the world and iconic to New York and includes a new VIP room, library and first ever “Estelle & Alfred” bridal salon. It certainly doesn’t do things by halves! Dita Von Teese and Blake Lively (each decked out in some of the finest and most envious pieces) were among the famous guests lucky enough to get an invite to the very prestigious event, and even enjoyed a surprise live ballet curated by Natalie Portman’s hubby Benjamin Millepied and choreographed by Justin Peck. Oh to have been a fly on the wall! What do you think of the luxurious space above? Definitely well worth a visit if you’re in the area, regardless of whether you have the funds to shop in there or not.

Minka Kelly vs. Dita Von Teese…Who wore Carolina Herrera better?

A one-gown-two-girls situation has presented itself once again, so we couldn’t let the chance of a fash-off slip our hands! This week, Dita Von Teese and actress Minka Kelly have us in awe of their matching Caroline Herrera Fall 2013 red carpet gowns, and, boy did the ladies do well. First to slip into the gorgeous, deep purple floral lace gown was Minka, who took to the Met Gala red carpet back in May, looking every bit show-stopping. Channelling the Gala’s punk theme best she could, Minka opted for a braided updo, accented perfectly with a dark lip, and finished with a waist-cinching belt to match. But giving Minka a run for her style cred was Dita Von Teese, who appeared in the same gown at Wallis Annenberg Centre For The Performing Arts Inaugural Gala, last month. Styled with her signature Fifties pin-up hair and a deep red lip, Dita carried a matching clutch and added the waist-cinching belt to her look, too. So, both ladies carried off the same stunning gown with aplomb, but being a fash-off, there can only be one winner… After winning our hearts for the second time around – she made it into our Met Gala red carpet roundup – we’re crowning Minka Kelly this fash-off’s champ. Dita’s look is faultless, too, but the recognisable hair and make-up makes it feel a little ‘samey’. Agree with our style verdict? Whose look wins for you? [Images: Minka; Dita]

Dita von Teese wows in monochrome Jenny Packham

Kate Middleton isn’t the only chic, famous lady who repeatedly goes back to Jenny Packham for fabulous eveningwear. Dita von Teese is another one of Jenny Packham’s most famous, faithful fans, and it isn’t hard to see why the two ladies love working together. Just look at the picture of the burlesque star rocking a monochrome floor-length dress at the American Hairstyling Awards for proof! The ceremony may have been about hair, but our attention was definitely focused on Dita’s dress. Although now that we mention it, her signatutre vintage raven locks looked sensational, as per. And as always, Dita completed her look with her trademark scarlet lipstick – we wouldn’t have her any other way! If Hollywood stylists dressed their clients even half as elegant as this, we’d be very happy bunnies indeed.

Dita von Teese wears vintage maroon dress at Cointreau launch

Last Updated on 19th October 2012 We love a brand spanking new, hot-off-the-runway collection as much as the next person, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t appreciate a good vintage piece when we see one. Enter Dita von Teese – Queen of Burlesque and goddess of timeless glamour! Dita looked flawless (as usual) as she attended the launch of La Maison Cointreau in New York earlier this week, wearing a vintage burgundy dress with a sparkly diamond brooch resting on her left shoulder. She accessorised with matching Christian Louboutin peep-toe shoes – and thankfully she didn’t do a Martha and paint the soles black! Her immaculate retro raven tresses, signature scarlet lips and nails, and flawless porcelain skin complemented the tones of the dress perfectly, leading to another show-stopping look from the Burlesque star.

Dita von Teese is perfect in Jenny Packham for Cointreau

Last Updated on 14th July 2012 Ever since we had the honour of spending the evening making cocktails with Dita von Teese, we’re now a little bit biased and think that akin to Mary Poppins, she is practically perfect in every way. However, we think even non-Dita fans (if those actually exist) will agree that the burlesque dancer turned Cointreau ambassador looked positively flawless in her full-length and fabulous Jenny Packham dress from the spring/summer 2012 collection. Anyone else might have been a tad over-dressed for what was essentially a pool party, but Dita totally gets away with it because a) she was the guest of honour and b) she is Dita von Teese. End of! We wouldn’t have guessed that this would be Dita’s kind of dress, but with her vintage curls and signature bold red lips and nails, she put her personal retro stamp on the gown and presented us with an overall smoking’ look. What a babe! [Image]

Dita Von Teese wearing a t-shirt?!

Last Updated on 7th May 2009 Dita Von Teese is the burlesque femme fatale who is never seen dressed down or without full blown make up and highly coiffed hair. And yet she’s designing t-shirts? Don’t worry she hasn’t lost her well manicured plot, but rather she is helping to fight AIDS. Celebs are gathering to create a range of organic t-shirts to support H&M’s Fashion Against AIDS campaign. Estelle, Katy Perry, Dita Von Teese, Roisin Murphy, NERD, Yoko Ono, Cyndi Lauper, amongst others have all designed a t-shirt or two specially for the high street retailer.

Dita Von Teese and Wonderbra: A Match Made in Heaven

Dita’s Louboutin’s muse

Last Updated on 25th August 2009 Dita Von Teese is Christian Louboutin’s muse. The legendary shoe designer has revealed the burlesque star is the inspiration behind his iconic high heels. He explained: “Dita is the ultimate showgirl and top of my list of muses. When she was 11, she dreamt of living a glamorous life and now she lives the dream. “I remember speaking to her father at her wedding and he said, ‘Christian, I don’t understand. There we were living in Michigan and suddenly, out of nowhere, she’d ask for a book about Marie Antoinette’s wigs for Christmas. I have no idea where she got those ideas from.’

Sorry Dita, you’re just not a modern beauty

Last Updated on 20th July 2009 Poppy King has criticised Dita Von Teese’s “costume” make-up. The former Estee Lauder cosmetics consultant, who started her own make-up brand, Poppy, in 1991, says the burlesque dancer and model’s style is not typical of modern-day beauty trends because it is too staged. She said: “People always say to me, ‘Oh you must love Dita Von Teese,’ but that’s not my idea of how to wear lipstick now. That’s costume and burlesque.” The Australian businesswoman prefers the minimalistic make-up of US actress Chloe Sevigny, who regularly teams a neutral base with a strong shaded lipstick.

Rocking The Glam Goth Style

Last Updated on 18th July 2018 The Gothic outfits people are wearing nowadays are quite different from the ones worn in the past. Back in the ‘70s people were looking like vampires when they rocked this style, but now they look like having a unique fashion sense. Nowadays it is something normal people to prefer black, when it comes to clothing articles. The glam gothic style is a little different from the traditional gothic one, because it combines two different styles, the gothic and the glamorous one. People who prefer this style include in their outfits bright colours not only dark hues, and they even combine gothic elements with androgynous ones. The main fashion icons of this style are Marilyn Manson and Dita Von Teese. But they are not the only ones who inspired people to try this style, other celebrities also preferred to     sport unique outfits. Dita Von Teese It is important to start with Dita Von Teese, because she is the fashion icon women around the world still admire, and she is the source of inspiration for millions of women. She is famous for her black curled hair. However the curls are not traditional ones but glam curls, that combined with red lipstick and gothic outfits help her impress everyone wherever she goes. She was and she still is considered one of the sexiest women on Earth, and we think that many years from how she will be seen like one of the most beautiful women of the world, because she seems to not get old, as the years pass. Her glam curls are her trademark, but it does not mean that you cannot achieve the same look. You only need a little practice, quality GHD curlers and some hairspray. Angelina Jolie Angie is also considered one of […]

The Met Gala 2014: The best dressed!

Last Updated on 6th May 2014 All the big names in fashion, film, and music gathered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City last night, for the highly anticipated Met Gala! This year, the museum was honouring Charles James, and the dress-code was a very simple (albeit slightly “boring” according to Marc Jacobs) “white tie and decorations”. Anyone familiar with the work of Charles James would know that elegant eveningwear was his thing, so they wouldn’t have gone wrong by donning the finest couture pieces with some elegant jewels. There were many ladies who absolutely nailed their looks, while some probably should have stayed home. Stella McCartney had a big moment on the red carpet, dressing the likes of Rihanna and Reese Witherspoon so flawlesslessly for the event, in two very different but equally stunning dresses. Rihanna went for her signature sexy look, while Reese was a vintage glamour goddess. Selena Gomez also wowed on the red carpet for us, looking very mature for just 21 years old in a bold deep purple Diane von Furstenberg dress. We also love how Gossip Girl stars Blake Lively and Leighton Meester were reunited at the Met Gala – they both looked amazing in  their respective Gucci Premiere and Emilio Pucci dresses. Not all of the ladies went for full-length or ballgown dresses (like Hayden Panettiere who looked like a Princess!) though – Solange Knowles and Lena Dunham were just two of the stars who went for something a little bit shorter. The impact definitely wasn’t lost though. Here are our best dressed celebs from last night’s Met Gala. Let us know who gets your vote in the comments below. Rita Ora and Taylor Swift wow on BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards red carpet

Last Updated on 4th November 2013 Although they are both successful singers, Rita Ora and Taylor Swift are quite different. They have a different audience, different sounds and different looks… but they were united in stealing the sartorial show at last night’s BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards. Taylor Swift, one of the presenters, looked sweet yet sophisticated in a gorgeous turquoise dress from the Jenny Packham autumn/winter 2013 collection. She proved that Jenny Packham can do short and sweet styles just as well as she does long, sweeping and smoldering styles that Kate Middleton and Dita von Teese favour. The dress fitted her like a glove, and her subtle waves and light pink lipstick complemented it wonderfully. Rita Ora chose to make more of an in-your-face statement on the red carpet by stepping out in a white feathered dress from the brand new Marchesa spring/summer 2014 collection. The dress certainly stood out a mile, but Rita kept the rest of her look – hair, make-up and accessories – simple, so the dress could do all the talking. Two of our best dressed ladies on the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards red carpet, for sure! [Images]

Kerry Washington tops Vanity Fair’s Best Dressed 2013 list

Last Updated on 2nd August 2013 Congratulations to Kerry Washington, as the stunning actress has just been given the coveted top spot in Vanity Fair’s prestigious Best Dressed 2013 list. Do you guys agree with the magazine’s choice? Predictably, Kate Middleton and Victoria Beckham also made the list, coming third and sixth respectively. Other ladies who inevitably made the list are Gisele, Beyonce, Dita von Teese and Charlize Theron, who secured the seventh, 11th, 27th and 34th spots. The blogosphere has expressed its disappointment that Michelle Obama didn’t make the list, and we definitely feel the same way as the First Lady has been on fire this year as far as her sartorial choices are concerned. The red hot Jason Wu dress that she wore to the Inauguration Ball alone was best-dressed worthy, don’t you think? We’re also pretty miffed that the likes of Alexa Chung, Olivia Palermo, Jessica Alba, Blake Lively and Miranda Kerr were omitted given their enviable styles. Click here to check out the full list and let us know who else you think should have been included.

Emma Watson is chic in Chanel for Bling Ring LA premiere

Last Updated on 6th June 2013 We can’t get enough of Emma Watson’s red carpet looks these days. It might have something to do with her short bob slowly but surely growing out, or it might just down to her personal style evolving – either way, whatever it is, it’s working! The 23-year-old actress is no stranger to wearing Chanel on and off the red carpet, but we think this is definitely her finest, chicest Chanel look yet. She rocked up to the LA premiere of her film The Bling Ring wearing a stunning tweed Chanel dress from the autumn/winter 2013 collection, with an exaggerated collar and visible zip. She accessorised with minimal accessories, covetable Giuseppe Zanotti peep-toe heels, an intricate braided bun in her hair, and a slick of Chanel-approved bold red lippie. Plus, is it just us, or does Emma have the most perfect porcelain skin you’ve ever seen? She might even give Dita von Teese a run for her money… flawless!

Cannes Film Festival – Cleopatra special

Last Updated on 22nd May 2013 The sartorial big guns were out for the Cleopatra premiere at the Cannes Film Festival – so much so that we actually developed a bit of a migraine trying to narrow down our best-dressed ladies. Lots of arguments at MFL HQ about who would secure a top spot! Dita von Teese was easily one of the best-dressed, looking like red hot sexy vintage goddess in a lacy Elie Saab Couture dress. Her flawless porcelain skin, old Hollywood curls and ruby stained lips contributed to the look’s overall wow factor! Also going for the classic Hollywood look was Jessica Chastain, who took our breath away in a white floor-length Versace collection dress. The hair, the jewellery – we loved it all! Rosario Dawson killed it on the red carpet in a floor-length bedazzling Marchesa Resort gown. Not only did it fit in with the Cleopatra theme, but it was also exactly what we expect from a Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Full-on glamour and sparkle! Araya A Hargate also gets a mention for channelling a Disney princess on the red carpet; we’re not sure which one though – maybe an infusion of all of them? We thought she looked magical in her Zac Posen spring/summer 2013 gown – the bodice makes it harder to pull off than a normal fairytale-inspired dress might, but we think she owned it! What do you guys think?

Jean Paul Gaultier retrospective is heading to London!

London is clearly where it’s at as far as hot exhibitions are concerned. Some of the biggest fashion names and faces from Valentino to David Bowie have been honoured in our fine Capital… and Jean Paul Gaultier is the latest big name to be added to that list. Pretty cool, right? The JPG retrospective, entitled The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From The Sidewalk To The Catwalk, will be held at the Barbican in April 2014, with over 140 pieces of ready-to-wear and couture pieces going on display to the public. “The English were the first ones to come to my shows and appreciate my fashion,” the designer said. “I am super excited that the show is coming to London. If there is one place other than Paris that I should like to live in, it is London.” Aww, well isn’t that sweet of him?! Oh and in case you’re wondering, the iconic cone bra that he created for Madonna WILL be included in the exhibition (natch), as will costumes he designed for Kylie Minogue and Dita Von Teese. We’re super-excited – are you? Check out the video below to hear the main man himself chat about the exhibition. [Vogue]

Celebrity-inspired Sunglasses

Last Updated on 14th February 2013 [noskim] With the spring/summer 2013 trends hitting high-streets nationwide, you may find that a few more celebrity lines are capturing your attention. Earlier this month Florence Welch from Florence + the Machine launched her very own jewellery collection and just before her Katy Perry spoke out about her forthcoming vintage fashion line. So, is it something in the water or just natural progression for talented celebrities to spread their creative wings a little further? We take a peek at the most on-trend sunglasses of the season and which celebrities they could have been inspired by! The Florence The singer-turned-jewellery designed has recently launched 80s style bracelets, necklaces and earrings for the modern trend-setter. Her contemporary, Art Deco style would go perfectly with these sharp designer sunglasses from RetroSun. The Paris Perfect for hiding your peppers from the gaggle of paparazzi, these D+G sunglasses have most definitely been inspired by Paris Hilton. She is often spotted in a crisp white pair but these sunglasses feature a crushed glass frame effect for added glamour and sparkle. The Gaga Ms Lady Gaga is a fan of textured fashion; lace being one of her recurring favourites. Perhaps not the best fabric for protecting your eyes from the sun’s rays but hey, the lady herself is never one to opt for practicality over beauty. The quirky use of chic black lace would be right up her street. The I Am Famed for his choice of eclectic eyewear, Will I Am is an obvious celebrity to design sunglasses for. Whenever spotted he is sporting a different pair of kooky sunglasses that get the fashion pages talking. This single lens style would be ideal for one of his more futuristic music videos. New York Fashion Week AW13 highlights from Jenny Packham, Oscar de la Renta, Vera Wang & more

Last Updated on 13th February 2013 So what’s been happening on the New York Fashion Week autumn/winter 2013 catwalks since we last updated you so dutifully? Famous faces and fashionistas alike braved the chill in the Big Apple to see collections from the likes of Jenny Packham, Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta, Naeem Khan and the newly rescheduled Marc by Marc Jacobs. If like us, you associate most of those designers with jaw-dropping red-carpet-worthy gowns then you’ll be pleased to know that there was no shortage of them on the runways, with Jenny Packham and ODLR’s collections in particular rendering us fairly speechless. Jenny Packham, who has dressed all the hottest female celebs from Kate Middleton to Angelina Jolie to Dita von Teese, was reportedly inspired by mid-17th century paintings and the Salon movements, with the sheer-panel pieces in particular proving extremely popular at MFL HQ. Elsewhere in NYC, Oscar de la Renta showcased his newest collection which of course had a bit of a John Galliano infusion in it. It’s not been confirmed what pieces JG actually contributed to, but there’s definitely a hint of the designer’s flare injected into the line, especially as far as the styling was concerned. Make no mistake though – the staple gowns were Mr Oscar de la Renta through and through! Oscar de la Renta Marc by Marc Jacobs  Naeem Khan Vera Wang

Is Katy Perry launching her own fashion line?

Last Updated on 7th February 2013 Do we really need to see another celebrity clothing collection? Well, when we’re talking about pop princess Katy Perry, the answer is a big fat yes! Word on the street is that Katy will be teaming up with her stylist and BFF Johnny Wujek to create a colourful clothing collection inspired by the styles of Dita Von Teese and Gwen Stefani – two undisputed fashion icons we think you’ll agree! “Katy has been asked about setting up her own fashion line for years,” a source reportedly told The Sun. “But she’s started to talk about it seriously with Johnny now. ”They would use inspiration from the likes of Dita Von Teese and Gwen Stefani because they are sophisticated dressers – very bright and vintage-looking stuff.” Ms Perry is famed for her deliciously quirky stage outfits, and although we don’t imagine she will be creating dresses with exploding fireworks coming out of the bosom area (darn it!) we’re confident they’re going to be pretty special. We predict bubblegum colours aplenty, and tons and tons of sparkle! [Contact Music]

See Jenny Packham and Matthew Williamson’s Dogwalk costumes here!

Last Updated on 19th October 2012 A few weeks ago we told you that a host of designers – the likes of which included the wonderful Jenny Packham, Henry Holland, Matthew Williamson and Stella McCartney among others – would be creating one-of-a kind dog outfits aid of the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. Well today we have a bit of a Friday treat for you, as we managed to get a hold of two of the outfits that will be paraded down the dogwalk on November 8th, and they come courtesy of Jenny Packham and Matthew Williamson. What do you think? The above dog is the gorgeous 4-year-old Frankie the Beagle modelling a Jenny Packham coat, which according to the designer, was a “development from a costume made for Dita Von Teese and is a Doggy ‘multi coloured dream coat’ made for a trip to Doggy Eden.” Isn’t that precious? And of course the dog right above – Cree the Rottie cross puppy – is modelling a Matthew Williamson original. “My muse was my American cocker spaniel, Coco,” Matthew said. She is very chic!” We bet she is! Stay tuned for more of the fab dog costumes when we get them!

London Fashion Week SS13: Day 4

Last Updated on 17th September 2012 Twitter was blowing up today, and that could only mean one thing: the Burberry show! There were celebrities left right and centre who attended to watch Christopher Bailey present his spring/summer 2013 offering at Kensington Gardens, and among those sitting pretty on the front row were Dita von Teese (star struck!) Olympic gold medalist Victoria Pendleton, Andy Murray, Tali Lennox, Anna Wintour, Laura Bailey and even the loveable Harry Styles among many others. Below is our recap of the Burberry Prorsum show, and some highlights from some of the other shows we attended on the fourth day of London Fashion Week. Enjoy! Who: Burberry Prorsum What: Colour crazy! A bold collection with a rich and extensive colour palette, with lots of fabric experimenting too! Sexy, sultry and sassy definitely sprang to mind when we first clapped eyes on the collection, and according to reports, that’s exactly what the main man himself said he was going for. Mission accomplished, Sir! Highlight: Seeing the extent of the brightness of the collection when the models paraded down the runway during the finale. We thought the music was pretty special too! To summarise: An opulent, colourful, diverse collection which is set to have celebs – and us ordinary folk – foaming at the mouth.   Who: Antonio Berardi What: Geometric, bold, intricate, structured, defined silhouettes; this year’s Antonio Berardi girl definitely has the attitude and isn’t afraid to show it! Despite the fact that there were many sporty, less glam pieces on the runway (we’re talking about the racer-back pieces in particular) the sequin offerings more than made up for it. We adore the versatility, and Antonio’s more relaxed take on the peplum was genius! Highlight: The pink sequin dress! To summarise:  Embellished and glittering garments mixed with geometric […]

Editor’s survival kit: London Fashion Week

Last Updated on 19th October 2013 As New York kicked off the month-long fashion processions last week, so London Fashion Week falls this Friday. We should be prepared, given that it only happens twice a year, but somehow it always manages to spring round the corner quicker than summer can stick around. And so, I find myself in the same situation every season. What the hell do I wear? What bag do I take to carry all my stuff? What shoes will I wear to combat the cobbles (and which flats should I take as precaution?)? While I’ve yet to answer any of those questions, there are a few things I know I’ll need: my can’t-survive-without-them essentials. From moisturiser to mints, these are things that litter my bag, without fail, every fashion week; the things that help me function; the things that help me breathe a little easier: my survival kit. So yes, while I do risk tripping over the dirt track due to some poorly-conceived heels, at least I’ll have hydrated skin. When I get stressed, so does my skin. I always keep a hand-sized tube of moisturiser in my bag to banish any dry spots inbetween shows – plus, it’s great for faking a dewy complexion pre-party (just press the palms of your hands gently onto your face as a final touch). Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream intensive daily moisturiser, £28 £25.20, available at Debenhams. From pre-party to post, I never leave the house without YSL’s Touche Eclat – it hides all signs of the night before’s bash (because though I might be feeling the effects of two hours sleep and too much champagne, nobody else need know!). Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat, £24.50 £22.05, available at Debenhams. When my skin’s looking lack-luster and lifeless after a long […]

Love or Hate: Vivienne Westwood Anglomania Dryad checked dress

Last Updated on 19th October 2013 One of the disadvantages of living in inner-city areas is the lack of greenery. I, myself, have a garden but it’s modest at best. Not really big enough to swing a cat in, I often find myself going to the local park with friends when it’s sunny outside. I also love a good picnic. It is one of those quintessentially British things and beats a barbeque any day. And in an ideal world, I’d wear this dress for all my picnicking adventures. Made by the queen of British eccentricity, Dame Vivienne Westwood, the Dryad checked dress from her Anglomania label has bags of charm and is the perfect summer outfit. Made in red and white gingham, it has a wide peter pan collar, button down corset and front fastening. Being so lady-like, it’ll look darling best paired with heels or wedges. Having said that, I’m sure people would be too distracted by the dress to notice you’re wearing flats for comfort. Its old-school style also means vintage bags like satchels are the perfect accessory. Bonus points for red lippie à la Dita Von Teese. Topshop’s celebrity dress auction

Last Updated on 15th March 2010 When the Fairy Godmother told Cinderella she could go to the ball, she was pretty darn happy. Well now’s your chance to turn your rags to riches. Except, in this case, there’s not a ball , but there is a gown. Lots of gowns, actually; all of them celebrity-owned, and all of them up for auction tomorrow.

Five minutes with William Tempest

Last Updated on 15th February 2010 Fashion can make stars as quickly as it breaks them, and over the past couple of years few stars have risen higher or shone brighter than young challenger to the British fashion crown William Tempest. And last year was a particularly phenomenal one for the 24 year old designer, who was working for another great British fashion name, Giles Deacon, before he had even graduated for the London College of Fashion. Having launched his own label in 2008, after a stint working for Jean Charles de Castelbajac and dressing Madonna, Tempest was selected to show at London’s Fashion Fringe event and went on to win the Vauxhall Fashion Scout Merit Award in 2009 allowing him to hold his first solo catwalk show – the Tudor themed The Golden Age – which won over pretty much every critic and secured his place as one of the hottest names in London. We caught up with Tempest in the run up to London Fashion Week to find out more about what we can expect to see from this bright young designer in 2010… 2009 seemed to be a pretty amazing year for you – what were the highlights and low lights? Highlights of 2009 were definitely holding my first catwalk show, dressing Victoria Beckham and being selected as one of Vogue magazine’s ‘Class of 2010 – the people who will define the next decade! Any New Year’s Resolutions? To help out others more often and to do something for charity. I’m currently working with Sport Relief at the moment on a great project to raise awareness and money to target malaria in Africa. I loved your Tudor inspired ‘The Golden Age’ collection. Why the Tudors? How much research did you do before you know which elements of Tudor style […]

Katy Perry is so totally Clueless

Last Updated on 17th July 2009 Katy Perry’s fashion sense is inspired by ‘Clueless’. The ‘I Kissed A Girl’ singer loves the look Alicia Silverstone sported in the 90s comedy movie, in which she played airhead matchmaker Cher Horowitz, which included knee-high socks, cardigans in pastel shades, belly tops and mini-kilts. Katy explained: “‘Clueless’ was a fabulous inspiration to me in the 90s! So were Shirley Manson, a young Gwen Stefani, Madonna and Courtney Love. Now I idolise Dita Von Teese, Agyness Deyn, Bjork, Natalia Vodianova, and always Lolita.” The 24 year old singer is famed for her outrageous style both on and off the stage – she wore a black and pink Hello Kitty corset and black PVC leggings to this year’s BRIT Awards in London – but refuses to tone down her look.

Cannes: Another day of gorgeous gowns

Last Updated on 21st May 2009 So Angelina and Brad have finally arrived, and Angelina was dressed to impress. I think she’s now put those pregnancy rumours to bed as she appeared in a thigh high split dress which was both figure hugging and flattering. The delectable duo were out in Cannes for the screening of Tarantino’s ‘Inglorious Basterds’, Angelina’s Versace gown is truly magnificent. From the floor skimming length, to the nude colour and one-shoulder, this dress is so on trend it hurts. And she looks incredible, we had begun to wonder whether Jolie had been lost to the realms of mum dressing, but no she is back on her best form. Stunning!

Rumer looks chilly in her short suit

Last Updated on 5th May 2009 Normally I wouldn’t advocate plunging necklines and super short shorts, but in this instance it works. The muted grey is a flattering shade and the whole ensemble suggests a style icon in the making. But whilst it works as an outfit you can’t help but notice Rumer’s somewhat mottled legs. I myself as a pale skinned girl can completely sympathise, but she would have done better to put on a little body foundation or a pair of tights. This is the problem with short shorts and pale skins, it is a shame though because this is an example of how beauty neglect can detract from an otherwise great outfit. Although if I can be really picky I would have liked to have seen her wearing shoes in the same gunmetal shade as her clutch (but I like the shape of her black courts).
