Naomi Campbell Is Effortlessly Elegant At Paris Fashion Week

And in today’s celeb style news…..Naomi Campbell looked AMAZING at Louis Vuitton’s FW19 menswear show at Paris Fashion Week. Held at the Jardin des Tuileries, the supermodel made her way to support designer Virgil Abloh’s second collection for the luxury house, wearing a romantic turtleneck pleated maxi dress, paired with a beige oversized blazer and matching leather knee-high boots. And for accessories? Huge sunnies and a LVMH clutch finished off her effortlessly elegant look beautifully. [Image]

Paris Fashion Week SS15 highlights from Elie Saab, Stella McCartney, Saint Laurent, and more!

Spring/summer 2015 collections from Stella McCartney, Saint Laurent, Elie Saab and Giambattista Valli hit the Paris Fashion Week catwalks yesterday, so let’s take a look at our highlights… Stella McCartney gave us effortless yet cosy chic with her light, roomy silhouettes found in everything from dresses to jumpsuits, while Saint Laurent was all about the sexiness – and the seventies – with the mismatched floral and leopard prints and multitude of fabrics. Short shorts are a definite must next season according to Hedi Slimane! We were once again mesmerised by what Elie Saab had to offer – this time choosing the deep blue sea as his inspiration for the show. Oceanic colours from aquamarine to coral were in abundance, and lace, sparkles and exquisite embroidery were plentiful. Take a look at all of yesterday’s PFW highlights below: Elie Saab Stella McCartney Giambattista Valli Saint Laurent

Paris Fashion Week SS15 highlights from Jean Paul Gaultier, Givenchy, and Celine

George Clooney’s wedding wasn’t the only exciting thing that happened at the weekend. Paris Fashion Week continued to give us brand spanking new spring/summer 2015 collections from some of the biggest fashion designers in the world, and as usual, we saw some ground-breaking and memorable stuff. The Jean Paul Gaultier spring/summer 2015 show was an emotional one, as the designer showcased his last ever ready-to-wear collection. (He’ll be focusing all his attention on Couture from now on- click here for more deets.) So, it was only right that he went out with a bang, and that’s exactly what he did. JPG paid homage to all the industry figures who have shaped his impressive career; Grace Coddington, Franca Sozzani, Suzy Menkes, Carine Roitfeld, Emmanuelle Alt all ‘featured’ on the runway, making the show a truly unforgettable one just the way JPG intended. Elsewhere in Paris, Riccardo Tisci presented a great, mostly monochromatic collection for Givenchy (with the Kim Kardashian and little North West obviously sitting pretty on the front row to support an eyebrow-less Kendall Jenner), while Phoebe Philo was clearly inspired by the one and only Kate Bush (who is currently touring right here in Britain) for her latest Celine collection. Check out all of our highlights below: Jean Paul Gaultier Givenchy Celine

Paris Fashion Week SS15 highlights from Balmain, Lanvin, Roland Mouret and more!

It’s all been hotting up in Paris these past 24 hours, with brand spanking new spring/summer 2015 collections from the likes of Lanvin, Roland Mouret, Nina Ricci and Balmain being the reasons why. Alber Elbaz celebrated Lanvin’s 125th anniversary with an outstanding collection that paid homage to the French fashion House’s history but stayed in tune with the modern woman at the same time too. If anyone can do it, Alber Elbaz can! The Balmain show might just be one of the most star-studded ones we’ve seen so far thanks to its mixture of A-list FROWers and catwalk models. Karlie Kloss, Jourdan Dunn, Rosie Huntington Whiteley, Joan Smalls and Kendall Jenner were just a few of the famous model faces strutting their stuff in Olivier Rousteing’s designs, while the likes of Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner and Kanye West all sat pretty on the front row to take in the new season pieces with an unrestricted view. And speaking of those new season pieces – it was all about the laser cut, check print, summer brights, and skin. Lots of skin was on show thanks to the bralets, sexy short-hemmed dresses, cut-out detailing and low necklines. Roland Mouret’s latest outing was just as sharp and en-vogue as ever; the perfect wardrobe for the professional woman on a tropical getaway. Asymmetric silhouettes, bright colourways, sharp collars – everything we love about Roland Mouret with a chic but relaxed twist. The young celebs will be all over this collection for their red carpet premiere outings, you mark our words. Here are the rest of our Paris Fashion Week highlights: Balmain Roland Mouret Lanvin Nina Ricci

Paris Fashion Week SS15 highlights from Balenciaga, Dries van Noten, Rochas and more!

Last stop: Paris! Inspired by John Everett Millais’ Ophelia, the Dries van Noten spring/summer 2015 collection was as magically dreamy as they come. With the light, woodland setting – in particular the mossy carpet which was used for the models to walk on – we also got hints of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. All in all, it was a collection of pure, natural beauty, and we have a feeling we’ll be remembering it for seasons to come. The Balenciaga spring/summer 2015 collection was very highly anticipated, and not just because Kim Kardashian and her adorable little girl North West (who wore a miniature leather leggings-and-skirt combo and a Yeezus tour T-shirt – bless!) were sitting pretty in the front row. Alexander Wang presented a minimal and modern collection comprised of black, white and subtle pastel colours, and geometric shapes, embellished, beaded details and subtle yet spectacular embroidering. We love the Matrix-esque long coats that grace the catwalk – practical yet powerful! Take a look at our Paris Fashion Week highlights below to see everything that’s been capturing our attention so far: Balenciaga The Kardashian-Wests arriving for Balenciaga Dries van Noten Rochas Alexis Mabille

Paris Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Lanvin, Balmain, Balenciaga & more

The celebs were out in force for the third day of Paris Fashion Week – and we don’t just mean on the front rows! Some of the most in-demand supermodels walked the runway for some of the biggest fashion designers in the world. Here are our highlights from the latest goings on at Paris Fashion Week: LANVIN AW14 Rihanna joined Emma Roberts and other such famous faces to witness the Lanvin autumn/winter 2014 collection first-hand; we’re not jealous at all, honest! Alber Elbaz presented a versatile yet somewhat experimental collection this time around – we believe his exact words were Experimental, Extravagant and Extreme – ensuring that fur and ruffles played a huge part in his light and fluffy new season range. Asymmetric silhouettes and Chanel inspired tweed also made an appearance. The silk dresses were a refreshingly new yet reassuringly familiar addition to the collection, adding the signature Lanvin elegance to the proceedings. Red carpet faves, for sure! NINA RICCI AW14 Jessica Alba watched the Nina Ricci autumn/winter 2014 collection from her comfy seat in the front row, which has got us pretty excited as we imagine what new-season pieces she will be wearing over the next few months as she goes about her daily business or rocks up on a red carpet. Sparkling, shimmering eveningwear was the highlight of the collection, with the designer not being shy of an embellishment or two. Or six. Wool skirt suits, chic jackets, cosy cashmere jumpers, and much more! BALMAIN AW14 Although there were a lot of big faces on the Balmain front row – did we mention Rihanna was one of the schlebs sitting pretty on the FROW? – some of the world’s biggest and hottest models of the moment walked the show too. It was a star-studded affair all round, […]

Rihanna shows her support for Balmain at Paris Fashion Week

Rihanna is officially in the city of love for Paris Fashion Week, and the new face of Balmain made sure she supported Olivier Rousteing by attending the autumn/winter 2014 show in a fierce pre-fall 2014 ensemble. She chose a typically Ri Ri look that came in an army inspired shade of khaki, and made sure she flashed some of her perfect pins at the same time too. This look oozed sexy sophistication in a way that only Rihanna knows how! And it looks like she has been taking hair styling tips from her good pal Katy Perry. KP rocked the Cleopatra hairdo at the BRIT Awards last week, and now Rihanna has taken it upon herself to try out the daring air trend too. We definitely think she pulled it off – we’ll have a tough time telling you who we think rocked it better though. Let’s call it a tie and leave it at that! [Image]

Paris Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Gareth Pugh, H&M, Vionnet & more

Day 2 of Paris Fashion Week brought us some versatile sartorial new-season delights from some of the fashion big guns such as Gareth Pugh, H&M, Alexis Mabille, Vionnet and Dries van Noten, among others. GARETH PUGH AW14  We think Gareth Pugh gets the award for most talked-about and most theatrical show, as he sent some of his models down the runway with wind-up keys on their backs making them look like a cross between wall-clocks and wind-up dolls. If they weren’t walking around with heavy machinery on their backs, they had very tall – and probably very hard to maneuver in – hats on their heads. Although there were many distractions on the Gareth Pugh autumn/winter 2014 runway, we did manage to pay attention to the clothes too, and discovered that the collection went in yet another different direction to the one we saw last season; yet it was pretty similar in that signature Gareth Pugh only-something-Lady-Gaga-would-wear aesthetic. Reflective, shiny materials juxtaposed with an abundance of plastic and over-the-top fluffy fur, exaggerated silhouettes and so much more. H&M AW14  Paris Fashion Week isn’t just about the big designers, as H&M came out to play by presenting its autumn/winter 2014 collection to a star-studded front row (Miranda Kerr, – the new face of the brand –Jessica Alba and Beyonce’s little sis, Solange Knowles, were all in attendance) at the Grand Palais, otherwise known as the home of the highly anticipated Chanel shows. We saw one of the most wearable and covetable collections hit the runway, with everything from sparkly sequin sweater dresses to comfy cosy cashmere rollneck jumpers all making an appearance. The colour palette was bright and bold to make up for the extreme wintry pieces (the bright orange turtle neck jumper is an MFL fave!), and we predict everyone […]

Paris Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Anthony Vaccarello, Corrie Nielsen and Tex Saverio

Anna Wintour was in a bit of a rush to leave Milan for Paris (she even missed the Giorgio Armani show!), but was the first day of Paris Fashion Week worth leaving the Italian city early for? Well, we don’t know about that, but the designers that showcased their autumn/winter 2014 collections in the French capital certainly wowed the crowd. ANTHONY VACCARELLO AW14 Anthony Vaccarello (Nicole Richie and Jennifer Lopez are huge fans – and it’s not hard to see why!) made sure the first day of the fash pack’s last stop in Paris was a memorable one, with fierce red and black looks dominating the catwalk. Minimal and wearable daytime ensembles were juxtaposed with short and tight evening pieces (J-Lo will no doubt be all over the new-season pieces) with chains and metal finding their way on the garments in a sleek, slinky and sinfully sexy way – a signature Anthony Vaccarello collection with bags of attitude! We particularly loved the attention he paid to the collar – he attached it to pretty much everything, and everyone! TEX SAVERIO AW14 We expected big things from the Tex Saverio autumn/winter 2014 collection; the Indonesian designer has been on our radar ever since it was announced that he was the creative brains behind Katniss Everdeen’s Hunger Games wedding dress, and we certainly weren’t disappointed with what we saw in Paris. A black, gold and silver colour palette dominated the new collection, as did pieces that came in big shapes and sizes. It was all about volume, something which was very apparent in the large and in charge skirts and a gorgeous laser cut cape in a deep shade of red that we have a feeling will be making its red carpet debut in the next few months. CORRIE NIELSEN AW14 Corrie […]

Brush up on your French in time for Paris Fashion Week!

Ok, so fashion month is underway and the last stop is of course, our favourite city Paris! In a bid to be able to communicate better with our fellow French fashionista’s (without the aid of our translation dictionary) we decided to brush up on our French in time for the last week of fashion month with the aid of Rosetta Stone’s TOTALe course. At £20 per month or £240 up front, the course promises the ability to engage in conversations, share ideas, make new friends with your new found conversational skills and best of all the ability to negotiate complex situations…a skill definitely needed to handle the madness that is fashion week. So, naturally we jumped at the chance to give the TOTALe course a go…. The online subscription is available for a 6 or 12 month duration. Stages of learning start at Level 1 and the course is completed once you make it to Level 5 (if you’re a bit more advanced than us you can skip to the level best suited to you). Each level starts with a core lesson and continues with lessons that individually cover pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, reading and writing. Reviews to check your progress are interspersed within the levels. The pronunciation lessons are priceless…voice recognition allows the system to pass or fail you if you’re pronunciation is incorrect which is great. There’s nothing worse than having a conversation with terrible pronunciation. Completion of each level unlocks a fun learning game that can be played solo or with fellow language learners online. The course also includes some great apps to help track progress and the chance to book four sessions a month with a native French-speaking tutor. Did the course deliver on its promise? Well, yes. It’s very easy to follow and the interactivity doesn’t […]

Paris Fashion Week SS14 highlights from Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Alexander McQueen & more

We don’t think anyone’s going to forget the penultimate and final days of Paris Fashion Week and Fashion Month any time soon. Yesterday saw the likes of Chanel, Alexander McQueen and Valentino present their respective spring/summer 2014 collections, while today the world proudly watched as Marc Jacobs debuted his final collection while at the Louis Vuitton helm. It’s been emotional! It was all very bright, fun, colourful and youthful on the Chanel catwalk, as the Grand Palais show space was cleverly made up like an art gallery. We always wonder what Karl Lagerfeld will think of to one-up himself every season, and we’re rarely disappointed with what he and the team have up their sleeves. There was a subtle nod to the 50s and 60s thanks to the prints, colours and boots, but there was also a modern twist on classic Chanel pieces too. A real mixed bag that had us foaming at the mouth from start to finish. Cara Delevingne’s multi-colour one-shouldered dress was definitely one of our highlights! Marc Jacobs was on the complete opposite end of the spectrum for his final Louis Vuitton collection. The classic Louis Vuitton graffiti print came out to play, as did grungier elements such as mesh, fishnets, and more black than you can shake a stick at. Marc Jacobs definitely ensured he went out with an almighty bang as both show and collection were breathtaking! Elsewhere in Paris, Sarah Burton went warrior and tribal for the Alexander McQueen SS14 collection – the models even came complete with their very own helmets – while the theme of the Valentino collection was somewhat regal and medieval. And that’s it, guys. Fashion Month is well and truly over for another season! What have been your highlights from the New York, London, Milan and Paris catwalks? Louis […]

Paris Fashion Week SS14 highlights from Elie Saab, Stella McCartney, Saint Laurent & more

Another day at Paris Fashion Week, and the likes of Elie Saab, Stella McCartney, Saint Laurent, Giambattista Valli and Emanuel Ungaro all presented their spring/summer 2014 collections. As we are huge fans of highly glamorous red carpet worthy dresses, Elie Saab is always one of our most highly anticipated shows on the Fashion Month calendar… and luckily, the Lebanese designer didn’t stray from his usual ultra glam aesthetic for his spring/summer 2014 collection. His models floated down the runway in his effortlessly beautiful and intricate dresses which were comprised mainly of delicate lace and sexy Chantilly lace, and also strutted their stuff in panelled jumpsuits, fierce minis, floral pieces and even a seventies-inspired halter neck dress. We know that Stella McCartney likes to dabble in sportswear (being very active herself and also collaborating with Adidas) and that was definitely translated in her spring/summer 2014 collection. Sporty pieces with a masculine meets feminine theme were running strong throughout the very wearable and very versatile collection.  Favourites include the cap sleeve crocodile print dresses, organza dresses, layered zip detail dresses, and some stunning trouser suit combos. Handbags were held under the arm a’ la Victoria Beckham! Over at Saint Laurent, Kanye West’s best pal (not!) Hedi Slimane presented what can only be described as a versatile and courageous collection. It lacked a strong, possessing theme which his previous outings had, which means that he is less about defining the Saint Laurent brand and putting his stamp on it and more about having fun with it and experimenting. Both Hedi Slimane and the Saint Laurent Paris label are growing up and growing into their new roles; this is Saint Laurent as you’ve never seen it! Paris Fashion Week SS14 highlights from Roland Mouret, Dior, Givenchy & more

What a packed weekend it was in Paris! Paris Fashion Week was the place to be at the weekend, with some of the hottest shows from the likes of Roland Mouret, Christian Dior, Vivienne Westwood, Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano, Comme des Garcons and Givenchy taking place. It was all very Secret Garden at Christian Dior – ladylike, elegant, and a very literal interpretation of spring/summer. Flowers adorned the entire venue as opposed to just the garments, and the handbags were dreamier and more elaborate than ever. Lily Collins, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were just a few of the famous faces sitting pretty on the Givenchy front row, but even A-listers couldn’t distract from Riccardo Tisci’s designs and the new direction he took the Givenchy label in. There was an abundance of Asian and African influence – the kimono styles were a particular favourite – as well as sequins, loose draped silhouettes, lapels, pleats and more. Lady Gaga can pretty much pick out her tour wardrobe from the Comme des Garcons collection, while Jean Paul Gaultier referenced everyone from vintage Madonna to Grease’s Danny Zuko (played expertly by model Coco Rocha) among others. We think JPG gets the prize for most entertaining catwalk show – especially since the audience members were treated to a performance from trained ballet dancer Karlie Kloss. Oh to have been in Paris! Pamela Anderson sat pretty on the Vivienne Westwood FROW, and although we don’t believe the collection was made exclusively for her, we can definitely her donning more than a few of the pieces in the next couple of months. Bigger was definitely better, with a “more the merrier” approach to colours. Christian Dior Comme des Garcons Givenchy Jean Paul Gaultier John Galliano Vivienne Westwood

Paris Fashion Week SS14 highlights from Balmain, Lanvin, Nina Ricci & more

There was a lot of action in Paris yesterday, as spring/summer 2014 collections from Balmain, Lanvin, Nina Ricci, Balenciaga and Paco Rabanne hit the catwalks. Rosie Huntington Whiteley lent a helping hand to Balmain, as she closed the show in a beautiful sheer number which undoubtedly got all the red blooded males in the audience very excited. There was a lot less razzmatazz in the new-season collection; a conscious decision made by Olivier Rousteing who said that he wanted to see what the stereotypical Balmain girl (who loves her some eveningwear and partywear) looked like at 9 in the morning. A great concept – and one that we would definitely get on board with. Balmain for breakfast sounds like a great idea to us! Alber Elbaz made it all about the shine factor over at Lanvin, as models came out in shiny, mirrored garments – some of whom did so while carrying what looked like bin bags. Bin day has never been more glamorous! Reflection was also a very prominent theme on the Balenciaga catwalk, as models strutted up and down the runway with mirrors surrounding them – capturing their each and every move from a variety of angles. There was no chance of missing one of Alexander Wang’s creations with the mirrors there! The Balenciaga girl is a tad more sporty, active and casual this season. Paris Fashion Week SS14 highlights from Gareth Pugh, Carven, Dries Van Noten & more

Last Fashion Week stop: Paris! Pars Fashion Week has well and truly kicked off to bring Fashion Month to a close, with the first spring/summer 2014 collections to hit the French catwalks coming from the likes of Alexis Mabille, Dries Van Noten, Carven, Gareth Pugh and Anthony Vaccarello. David Bowie, or should we say Ziggy Stardust, would be very impressed with the Gareth Pugh spring/summer 2014 collection as it was sci-fi glamour with a gothic and dramatic twist. The ostrich feather headpiece that opened the show was a definite highlight for us, as were the exaggerated Cleopatra-style shouldered pieces. Akin to the Dolce and Gabbana SS14 collection, the Dries Van Noten show was filled with rich, golden-hued pieces. Unlike Dolce and Gabbana though, pleats and ruffles – and even  ruffled pleats and pleated ruffles – were very dominant on the catwalk, which only added to the drama and fluidity of the collection. We also get the distinct impression that Rihanna will be all over the Alexis Mabille collection thanks to its keen and prominent military theme – either that, or she will be kicking herself that the pieces weren’t part of her Rihanna for River Island collection. Hopefully it won’t be the latter! Dries Van Noten Alexis Mabille Carven Anthony Vaccarello

Paris Fashion Week AW13 highlights from Elie Saab, Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu and more

That’s it, guys – Paris Fashion Week officially drew to a close last night, and Fashion Month has come to an end. It’s been emotional! Before we get the tissues out and sob uncontrollably, we still have highlights from the final day to cover, as the Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, Vionnet and Elie Saab autumn/winter 2013 collections made their way down the catwalks of Paris. Louis Vuitton kicked the final day of PFW proceedings off in slouchy style, as sleepwear seemed to be a big theme given all the bathrobes that came out. Marc Jacobs even slipped into his own red jammies at the end of the show too – pretty interesting! But perhaps the best thing about the Louis Vuitton show was the big finish – we’re not talking fireworks or pyrotechnics, we’re talking the one and only Kate Moss walking down the runway and modelling the final look. She’s still got it! And speaking of big, spectacular finishes, Lebanese designer Elie Saab gave us something to remember by presenting a host of wow-worthy red-carpet-ready gowns fit for Princesses and Hollywood royalty. We think Elie Saab truly deserves the task of closing Fashion Month – what a way to end it! Louis Vuitton Miu Miu  Vionnet

Paris Fashion Week AW13 highlights from Chanel, Valentino, Alexander McQueen and more

Chanel, Valentino, Alexander McQueen, Saint Laurent, Hermes… it’s pretty safe to say that yesterday was one of the biggest days on the Paris Fashion Week and even Fashion Month calendar. Karl Lagerfeld always seems to outdo himself every season, and his autumn/winter 2013 show was no exception, as celebs and big-name fashionistas were transported to an all-too-literal “Chanel world”. As well as the breathtaking clothes, Chanel also gave us sparkling eyes to gawk at during the show. Last time it was all about the bedazzling lips, but this season the essential beauty look was sequins, which were carefully attached to the lash lines of the models. We love! Parisians were also treated to 10 finely crafted, intricate Alexander McQueen looks that had a very regal theme to them (think Tudors!), while Valentino resurrected the much-loved Peter Pan collar in a host of bold and striking pieces. Take a look at some of our stand-out looks from yesterday’s PFW action : Alexander McQueen Valentino Saint Laurent Paris Hermes

Paris Fashion Week AW13 highlights from Stella McCartney, Zuhair Murad, Giambattista Valli and more

More fashion big guns were out in force yesterday, as the autumn/winter 2013 collections continued to make their highly anticipated debut on the Paris Fashion Week catwalks. Stella McCartney flew the flag for Britain by showcasing another great collection comprised of bold, vivid colours and revolutionary cuts and silhouettes, while Zuhair Murad gave us some fab  red-carpet-ready pieces that we reckon would be perfect for the upcoming award ceremonies. We’re feeling one of the short dresses on one of the youthful stars of today for the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards… what say you? Elsewhere in Paris, the Giambattista Valli show went off without a hitch, with the attention shifting from the lavish, exquisite ballgown to slightly more casual pieces. There were lots of coats, parkas and general pieces of outerwear on the catwalk, all in a fairly subtle and understated colour palette, but the elegance, glamour and overt femininity were still just as apparent as ever. Paris Fashion Week AW13 highlights from John Galliano, Jean Paul Gaultier, Givenchy and more

It was quite an action-packed weekend in the French Capital, with a host of celebs, editors, and big-name fashionistas filling the front rows of some of the hottest shows on the Fashion Month calendar. Some of the collections shown over the last few days included ones from Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano, Givenchy, Viktor & Rolf and Jean Paul Gaultier to name but a few. Viktor and Rolf embraced that monochrome trend we love so much, while Riccardo Tisci presented a stunningly intricate Givenchy collection with subtle punk infusions, with our fashion-favourite tartan print making an appearance on the catwalk too! And Givenchy wasn’t the only show to reference the 80s punk revolution – Jean Paul Gaultier also drew punk rock inspiration – particularly with the styling thanks to those wigs – and also with the abundance of leather and edgy printed pieces. Paris Fashion Week AW13 highlights from Balenciaga, Balmain, Lanvin, H&M and more

Another day in Paris and another host of top designers debuting their autumn/winter 2013 collections on the French catwalks. There have been quite a few first these past 24 hours too, in the form of H&M’s first runway show in eight years, as well as Alexander Wang’s highly anticipated debut collection for Balenciaga. Mr Wang proved that he was indeed the right man for the coveted job, juxtaposing and balancing the creations more commonly found in his eponymous label with those of Balenciaga quite flawlessly. The high street has been more prominent this Fashion Month than ever before (Rihanna for River Island, Whistles, Topshop Unique to name just a few) and we’re hoping that H&M will see how successful the show has been and continue to present its collections in Paris. We’d prefer London, but we won’t be too fussy as we’re just glad it’s getting a Fashion Month outing at all! There was plenty of sparkle, as well as some big shoulders, bold lines, vivid colours and exaggerated structured  silhouettes at Balmain – one of our PFW highlights every season – while Mugler opted for a much softer and subtler approach to drama than usual. As always, Alber Elbaz presented a chic and clean collection for Lanvin, while Gareth Pugh took the term “haunting” to new depths. Paris Fashion Week AW13 highlights from Rochas, Dries Van Noten, Alexis Mabille and more

The fash pack are well and truly off on the last part of their month-long trip to the fashion capitals of the world – last stop, Paris! Some say Paris is where the big guns come out, and it’s not hard to see why with the likes of Chanel, Dior, Valentino and Balenciaga among those which show their collections in the French capital. Before the aforementioned big guns come out to play though, other collections from the likes of  Rochas, Dries Van Noten, Alexis Mabille and Anthony Vaccarello helped kick Paris Fashion Week off in style, offering a host of versatile and truly memorable pieces for the new autumn/winter 2013 season. It was flirty fifties silhouettes galore at Rochas (with a stunning Olivia Palermo sitting pretty on the front row, no less) while it was all about the 80s style goth over at Alexis Mabille – teamed with stunning scarlet lips, obviously! We loved the sexy, daring pieces at Anthony Vaccarello, and if you think the one-sided flesh-flashing looks familiar, it might be because he was the mastermind behind the dress Jennifer Lopez wore to the Grammys earlier this month. Click here to refresh your memories just in case you forgot. Check back tomorrow as we’ll be seeing what Alexander Wang has up his sleeve for his debut Balenciaga collection, as well as highlights from Carven, Mugler, and more. H&M to show during Paris Fashion Week next month!

Looks like the high street is slowly but surely taking over Fashion Week. Not only is Rihanna debuting her River Island collection during London Fashion Week, but it was announced a few days ago that Whistles will also be showing a collection in our fine Capital. And now comes the announcement H&M will be showing its first catwalk show in eight years during Paris Fashion Week. Pretty cool, right? We can expect to see 25 new looks from the H&M autumn/winter 2013 collection make their way down the Parisian catwalk. “We felt excited about the collection and we really wanted to show it,” said Håcan Andersson, a spokesperson for the Swedish retailer. The show hasn’t quite made the official Paris Fashion Week schedule, but it’s supposed to go ahead on February 27th at the Musée Rodin, so put it in your diaries. And if previous H&M shows are anything to go by (Kanye West and John Legend performed at the last one!) we know we’re going to be in for a treat! Are you pleased to see Fashion Week go more high street than high fashion? [WWD] [Image]

Paris Fashion Week SS13 highlights – Part 6

Well this is it guys – the final dose of Paris Fashion Week action from the spring/summer 2013 season. We’ll try not to get emotional and have a blub-fest! Elie Saab, Miu Miu and Lie Sang Bong were given the task of making sure PFW ended in just as much style as it began in, and it’s safe to say that they accomplished their goal. Over at Elie Saab, jaws (we assume) dropped as the designer presented a wow-worthy collection which is sure to dominate the red carpet during Awards Season at the beginning of next year. The show was streamed live via the internet so we think we have the authority to say this: never has the phrase “floated down the runway” been more appropriate! In amongst the geometric, sparkly Oscars-appropriate dresses was a vast selection of daywear, which comprised of block colour matching suits, and a few summery frocks thrown in there to spice things up a bit. Although Miuccia Prada’s Miu Miu line is supposed to be for the younger, more contemporary fashionista, there were many grown up looks in the collection this season – far more than we’re perhaps used to at least. That’s not to say that there’s an overlap with Prada though – au contraire one of the many things we admire is the designer’s dedication to diversity. The collection was effortless, casual and a bit dark and edgy… worlds away from the last spring/summer outing that’s for sure. Another collection we thought was the perfect end to Fashion Month was that of Lie Sang Bong, as the designer presented a truly fantastical, mythical, multi-dimensional show. Butterfly prints and motifs were in abundance, as were fairytale-inspired almost nymph-like creations. A latecomer but one of our faves! What has been your stand-out collection from Paris […]

Paris Fashion Week SS13 highlights – Part 5

Bored of Paris Fashion Week yet? No? Good, us neither! The big guns were once again out in force yesterday, as the spring/summer 2013 collections from Alexander McQueen, Louis Vuitton, Valentino and Paco Rabanne proudly made their way down the catwalks. Sarah Burton’s vision for Alexander McQueen has once again rendered us somewhat speechless, carrying on the message of the late great designer beautifully. Another favourite collection from the whole of Fashion Month for sure – and not just because we are in awe of the beekeeper veils. We can totally see the likes of Daphne Guinness and Lady Gaga being all over this collection, can’t you? We wonder if the Duchess of Cambridge will find something she likes in here… watch this space! Marc Jacobs is a sucker for a theme and this season was definitely no exception; he went mad for stripes for the Marc Jacobs spring/summer 2013 collection which he debuted a few weeks ago, but it seems to be all about the 60s-inspired square print as far as Louis Vuitton is concerned. We didn’t think anything would beat his “all aboard the Louis Vuitton train” theme, but we have to admit that models coming down a moving escalator is an absolutely brilliant notion. What will he think of next?! Not ones to be outdone are Paco Rabanne and Valentino, who also had their turn on the runways of Paris. Paco Rabanne was sexy, sensual and provocative, and also had a hint of the 60s in it too. Although the scantily clad, overtly sexual part of the decade. We’re spotting a recurring trend here! Plus, if you have a supermodel body, it’s a pretty wearable collection too! Valentino’s outing was just as exquisite as we expected as the designer showed a plethora of fine, intricate pieces. As we all know, […]

Paris Fashion Week SS13 highlights – Part 4

Hakaan drama aside, Paris Fashion Week has continued to go on without a hitch, as gorgeous collections from Stella McCartney, Chloe, Givenchy and Chanel recently made their way down the runway. We even had Hedi Slimane’s debut collection for Saint Laurent Paris (formerly YSL) to look forward to. Paris Fashion Week isn’t Paris Fashion Week without a lavish Chanel show at the Grand Palais. We sometimes think there are only so many ways one can rework the iconic tweed jacket, but every season Karl Lagerfeld seems to find something new. Kaiser Karl has once again excelled, putting on a flawless collection that is the perfect mix of classic Chanel and modern, contemporary femininity. And as self-confessed bag addicts, we were particularly drawn to the pieces of arm and shoulder candy this season, especially the hula-hoop and leg-inspired bags. The oversized pearls also went down quite well with us – we do love statement bling! Elsewhere in Paris, the Chloe and Giambattista Valli shows took place, once again reiterating what we said about exaggerated silhouettes being key to the new season. Even though this isn’t a Couture collection, we kind of expected some big, bold and beautiful dresses to come out towards the end of the Giambattista Valli show (after all, they are the designer’s forte) but that didn’t happen this time round. Still, Giambattista’s exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail is still evident even in the simplest of pieces, which proves just why he gained that all-impotant Haute Couture appellation so early on. Well played! We’ve been waiting for Hedi Slimane’s Saint Laurent debut ever since he joined the fashion House, and although this isn’t what we were expecting, we were quite impressed with what he managed to cook up. Akin to a lot of collections at Paris Fashion Week, Hedi’s […]

Hakaan cancels Paris Fashion Week show due to missing collection

You’d think the thing a designer fears the most is getting harsh reviews from the critics for the collection they’ve been working so hard on, right? Well we  reckon not having a collection to show at all might actually top it! That’s exactly what happened to poor Turkish-born, London-based designer Hakaan Yildirim, as his entire spring/summer 2013 collection was reportedly lost by a courier company, therefore forcing him to cancel tomorrow’s show at Paris Fashion Week. Ouch! Apparently the designer will have to re-make every single piece from the collection again, and will show buyers and selected members of the press at a special event at a later date. Good luck Team Hakaan, you can do it!  We wonder how many pots of coffee, sleepless nights and extra interns it’ll take to remake the whole collection in time… Ps: Remember when the Marc Jacobs spring/summer 2012 collection was stolen last year? We’re starting to think stricter laws should be enforced for designer collections in transit; who’s with us? [Telegraph]

Paris Fashion Week SS13 highlights – Part 3

It was a busy weekend for the Parisian fashionistas, as Vivienne Westwood, Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier and John Galliano were among the spring/summer 2013  collections which debuted on the French runways. We already saw Raf Simons present his debut collection for Christian Dior a few months ago during Couture Fashion Week, but we were still looking forward to seeing what direction he would take his first ready-to-wear line in. As a whole, it was contemporary and modern, but it was minimalistic. The subtle but very apparent hint of romanticism wasn’t lost in the new-season collection either, which just goes to show that Raf Simons has done his homework. We’re impressed! You can always expect a good gimmick from a Vivienne Westwood show, and the latest outing was no exception. The models essentially channelled Marie Antoinette with their hair and outfits, while some of them walked out with hearts on their faces – obviously the designer was keen to show and spread the love. Quite cute really! Jean Paul Gaultier collections are always a highlight, and once again the designer sought inspiration from famous faces. It was all about the late Amy Winehouse for the Couture show back in January, but this time round JPG paid tribute to more than one musical icon by presenting looks inspired by David Bowie, Boy George, Madonna and the legendary Michael Jackson. We imagine the catwalk show in itself would have been quite spectacular and the atmosphere somewhat electric. John Galliano was another hotly anticipated collection, as we were intrigued to find out what creative director Bill Gaytten was capable of doing now that he didn’t have Christian Dior to focus on as well. The collection definitely went in a different direction this season; gone was John Galliano’s love of theatrics, drama and all things attention-grabbing, […]

Kristen Stewart is adventurous in Balenciaga for Paris Fashion Week show

She’s wearing a light, summery colour and was even photographed with a subtle smile… does this mean things with Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are back on track? Relationship speculation out the way, let’s talk about K-Stew’s actual outfit as she arrived at the Balenciaga show in Paris to take her front row seat! Obviously the Twilight actress was kitted out in head-to-toe Balenciaga (be a bit cheeky if she wasn’t, no?), and while we thought she might go for something darker and more boyish, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that she wore something printed, colourful and feminine. Even though Kristen went for a light yellow jacket and floral trousers, she gave the ensemble her signature edge by adding chunky leather boots as opposed to something more delicate. We all know how attached she is to her Converse, so let’s be thankful that she didn’t crack them out! We can’t flaw her make-up either, and we like how she stuck to her trademark hairstyle too. We don’t like it when the celebs try too hard to the point of being unrecognisable, so we’re glad there was still some of the old Kristen there!

Paris Fashion Week SS13 highlights – Part 2

Time for the likes of Lanvin, Balmain, Rick Owens, Nina Ricci and Roland Mouret to have their turn on the Paris Fashion Week spring/summer 2013 catwalks now. Some designers stuck to what they know while others went for quite a big image overhaul. We think we’ve reached that stage where we can recognise a Balmain dress when we see one, and it looks like that’s still the case with this season too. Akin to those Herve Leger bandage dresses, the Balmain dress has become an instantly recognisable celeb wardrobe staple, and we actually look forward to seeing the slightly revamp on it season after season. It’s not a case of asking which celeb will be wearing the dresses but rather which ones won’t!; and we can totally see current-girl-crush Gwen Stefani in those harlequin print jumpsuits, can’t you? Nina Ricci gave us signature, classic romanticism with a bit of a gothic twist this season… and it looks like that good old Fifty Shades of Grey influence is apparent in yet another collection as out came the dominatrix-inspired bondage pieces! We always look forward to a Rick Owens collection, and this one was no different. Described by the designer himself as “a little bit hallucinogenic”, the spring/summer 2013 outing featured shiny, intense and almost godlike pieces, with lots of structure and definition to boot. Mad props to the hair department, too! And then there was Lanvin; Alber Elbaz went for a slight change in direction for this season, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. We just don’t think the man can put a foot wrong, as he presented yet another flawless collection comprised of loud, statement pieces with a relatively more subtle and refined angle than previous outings. We love the purple dress Karlie Kloss is rocking, but do we […]

Paris Fashion Week SS13 kicks off!

Last but by no means least, Paris Fashion Week is finally here! The models have officially made their way from the catwalks of Milan to those of Paris to showcase some of the biggest spring/summer 2013 collections in the industry – all kicking off with the likes of Dries Van Noten, Rochas, Mugler, Gareth Pugh and Balenciaga. Nicola Formichetti didn’t disappoint us with his latest outing for Mugler, and we were actually pleasantly surprised by the slightly new direction he took with his latest collection. Silhouettes were slightly more relaxed (but the structure, complexity and definition was certainly not lost in the process) and the vibe was more feminine than that of past seasons. Marco Zanini’s collection for Rochas however didn’t go down as well as he had hoped, although we think the simpler, sixties inspired pieces will translate onto the high street quite nicely. Cara Delevingne’s red mini skirt in particular looks like it’s going to be a new-season must-have! Gareth Pugh’s collection was predictable with its sense of unpredictability, and we once again witnessed a monochrome colour palette with some bold, vampy red pieces thrown in there for good measure. What Gareth lacks in colour he certainly makes up for in material – there was plenty of leather that would make the job of the guys in wardrobe for True Blood really easy. Balenciaga definitely has to be our early favourite from Paris, and not just because a much happier looking Kristen Stewart was perched on the front row. We can envisage her in a large proportion of the outfits though – the boxy crop tops and mini skirts in particular. When you’re young and have a body like Kristen’s those styles are perfect to strut along the red carpet in. The black and pink dress to the […]

Kanye West ISN’T showing at Paris Fashion Week

What’s this – Kanye West isn’t showing his third collection at Paris Fashion Week? When we first heard the rumours we were a little bit shocked, but it’s true – the rapper-turned-designer will not be showing his third DW by Kanye West collection on the catwalks of Paris next month. Although the news was officially confirmed by the PR agency that represents his label, no specific reason was given. Do we think his new relationship with Kim Kardashian has anything to do with it? Is the label – which has received mixed reviews from the fashion world – discontinuing for good or is it taking a little break? Answers on a postcard please – and we’ll keep you posted once we know more! We don’t know about you, but we were kind of looking forward to Kanye’s vision for the spring/summer 2013 season. [Vogue]

Paris Fashion Week: Day 9

Oh, to have been on board the literal Louis Vuitton train! In what was one of our favourite concepts of Paris Fashion Week – and fashion month in general – Louis Vuitton’s presentation took place in a makeshift train station, with very dapper looking train staff toting the models’ luggage along the catwalk.

Paris Fashion Week: Day 8

Who needs nail art or even vajazzles when you can have eyebrow bling! Karl Lagerfeld sent his top models (the likes of which included Miranda Kerr, Cara Delevingne and Joan Smalls) down the Chanel runway with the sparkliest, jazzed-up eyebrows we think we’ve ever seen! We are firm believers in the “sparklier, the better” mantra, which is why we are lusting after Chanel’s autumn/winter 2012 collection even more than we predicted. Plus, the Superman-esque crystals that adorned the Grand Palais were genius!

Paris Fashion Week: Day 7

Given how Katy Perry enjoys dressing lately, we think she’ll be very pleased with the Stella McCartney collection, as most of it comes in her current favourite hue! Check Karlie Kloss out looking all demure in that dress – that girl can pull of everything! Tailored coats were in abundance in Stella’s latest collection, as well as oversized jackets, pleated trousers, and a hint of sportswear towards the end (which was probably a nod to the Olympics uniforms she created for the British teams).

Mila Kunis pretties up the Paris Fashion Week FROW in pastel Dior

Mila Kunis decided to kill two birds with one stone while visiting the city of lights a few days ago. Not only did the newest Christian Dior brand ambassador hop onto a boat to shoot what looks like a stunning new ad campaign (if the candid pap pics are anything to go by), but she naturally had time to attend and sit front row at the brand’s latest Paris Fashion Week show!

Paris Fashion Week: Day 6

Bill Gaytten stayed true to his friend John Galliano for his eponymous collection, proving just how in tune to each other the pair really were. Well, still are. Maybe he is the best person to replace him at Dior after all! The collection was filled with wild, sexy, edgy pieces, all about creating that all-important wow-factor and leaving a lasting impression, with a MFL-approved stamp of Britishness thrown in there for good measure. Christophe Lemaire went for a more relaxed theme for Hermès this season, with ‘wild, wild, west’ inspired pieces – ponchos and fedora hats, included – and going for slightly less feminine silhouettes than are usually expected from the brand. Riccardo Tisci slightly played on the underwear as outerwear theme towards the end of the Givenchy show, while the rest was comprised of punk-inspired designs with studs and armpit-length leather gloves and knee-high leather boots in abundance. Albert Kriemler’s vision for Akris was simple, elegant, demure… the list goes on and on. We love seeing how such an understated collection managed to hold its own amongst the vivid and even outlandish collections of Paris Fashion Week, proving that simplicity never goes out of style. Don’t think this is the last of it – we still have the likes of Kanye West, Stella McCartney and Chanel on the list of shows to look forward to. Paris Fashion Week is far from over!

Paris Fashion Week: Day 5

Let’s get down on our knees and praise Vivienne Westwood and Jean Paul Gaultier for the gorgeous display of colour that has been lacking in many designer collections this season. It wasn’t all hugs and rainbows though; much of Vivienne’s collection was influenced by those good old historic times (Elizabethan and Edwardian in particular) that Ms Westwood draws a lot of her inspiration from, making it another wonderfully British collection. And kudos to the model who rode a bicycle down the catwalk! Over at Jean Paul Gaultier, in amongst the bright and colourful ensembles, was an abundance of fur, knits and puffer jackets. And it looks like he went for a less controversial theme this season round. If you cast your minds back to just a few months ago, his Couture collection was heavily influenced by the late Amy Winehouse, which may have been loved by some (us, included) but wasn’t well received by his muse’s family. We felt that Rei Kawakubo’s Comme des Garcons presentation was one of the most surreal shows we have seen this autumn/winter 2012 season, as the models came out looking almost cartoon-like in their stiff multi-dimensional dresses and lego-esque hair. Now that John Galliano’s former intern Haider Ackermann’s name has been thrown into the Dior creative director equation, his latest collection is probably his most important yet. Luckily for him, he did a marvelous job, presenting a collection that he said was inspired by the colour of autumn leaves. We loved the layering and the styling as a whole, too; we honestly can’t fault it! Katy Perry was among the front-rowers at Viktor & Rolf which surprised us, seeing as there wasn’t a bubblegum or candy floss coloured garment in sight for the collection that was allegedly inspired by the moon. The colours may not have been to Katy’s […]

Paris Fashion Week: Day 4

With all those rumours flying around, it’s obvious that Bill Gaytten and his work at Christian Dior is going to be put under the microscope and analysed until it can be analysed no more. But, we’re going to continue looking at the Dior collections with an open mind, and we have to say that akin to the recent couture collection, Bill Gaytten’s autumn/winter 2012 outing was actually, quite brilliant.

Paris Fashion Week: Day 2

On with Day 2 of Paris Fashion Week! Dries Van Noten presented another typically print-tastic collection, with coats, dresses and all else in between receiving the signature pattern and panel treatment that has become a staple for the brand over the seasons. Gareth Pugh fancied him a runway show this season as opposed to his usual video presentations, and his dramatic collection certainly reflected and accommodated that. It was all very gothic, as black leaves dropped from the sky as the models made their way down the runway in sharp, sculpted, exaggerated, high-collared garments with an abundance of fur, fringe and zips to boot. And speaking of boots, thigh highs were an essential on the foot of every catwalk model! Who would wear this collection then? Our money’s on Lady Gaga, Rooney Mara and Daphne Guinness (seeing as she was sat poised and pretty on the frow). Another instantly Gaga-approved collection was Mugler, as her stylist and best pal Nicola Formichetti debuted yet another collection for the label. Another sharp, edgy and defined collection with a predominantly monochrome palette – the only splashes of colour came from a few of the more instantly wearable dresses and the red soles on the Christian Louboutin shoes. We loved Formichetti’s take on the classic peplum too! See by Chloe was a bit of a mixed one where you could find sheer and muted looks among the bold, bright and printed. Then again, it had to be a special show seeing as the brand debuted the collection online for the first time ever. Overall, it was modern, romantic, poetic and surprisingly understated. Hair and make-up was fuss-free and natural, which complemented the nature of the collection well. What will the third day of Paris Fashion Week bring, we wonder?

Jessica Biel does pastel-pretty at Paris Fashion Week

Jessica Biel has always been the queen of understated, making a welcome change from the droves of A-listers who dress up to the nines at every occasion possible, and the actress lived up to this title when she appeared at Valentino’s presentation during Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday. Wearing a completely neutral palate – apart from an eye-catching pair of turquoise heels – she looked chic, coordinated and effortlessly stylish. Her silky muted beige dress and pale lavender coat complement each other beautifully, and her gorgeous studded pale blue clutch gives an edgy touch to the ensemble. Miss Biel did a damn good job, considering Parisian girls are complete aficionados of understated chic. Justin Timberlake and amazing style? Some girls have all the luck! [poll id=”213″]

Paris Fashion Week AW11 round-up

As Paris Fashion Week brought the month-long round of AW11 collections to an end, we’ve scoured through the shows to bring you a quick-fire round-up of our favourites from the City of Light. Take a look at our highlights from the sartorial proceedings in Paris below… Who: Alexander McQueen What: The collection, at times, maintained a softer silhouette than we’re used to from the house of McQueen, but once again Sarah Burton proved she knows what she’s doing with the label. With white tweed skirts, fur accents, opened pleats, grey separates, intricate suits, knitted fur detailing, raw chiffon frills, spray-on leather leggings, robotic bustiers, platform shoes and moulded silhouettes galore – this was yet another truly astounding collection, with McQueen’s signature style printed all over it. And the finale of wedding-esque dresses did nothing to dispel the Kate Middleton rumours. Who: Chanel What: Lagerfeld definitely celebrated International Women’s Day with his autumn/winter collection at Paris Fashion Week, and with raw silhouetted clothing making a profound impact on the catwalk, there was no denying the rough, tough and ready mood of the clothes: an abundance of boiler suits, cropped jackets, pleated trousers, tweed legwarmers, flat brogues and mannish ankle boots. Who: Louis Vuitton What: A quintessential collection of hotel uniform-inspired clothes, with patent leather jackets, sheer skirts exposing suspenders and bottom-revealing cashmere onesies completing the array of rule-breaking get-ups. Surprise appearances from Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss smoking stole the show. Who: Lanvin What: A collection of sophisticated silhouettes, with mustard and caramel draped fabric dresses aplenty. Who: Valentino What: A romantic collection of lace and cashmere, delicate jumpers and A-line dresses. Who: Miu Miu What: A statement collection of signature Sixites shapes, bold colour blocking and sparkly heels galore. Who: Givenchy What: A collection inspired by the Japanese kimono silhouette […]
