Perhaps it was my recent holiday that involved copious amounts of sea-swimming, mermaid style, but I think I may have found my late summer/early autumn style inspiration. Not wanting to abandon the look of sunlit days entirely, but looking forward to the darkly romantic fashion of winter I’m stealing looks from folklore mermaids. Scantily clad in summer style but with a hint of siren-esque danger, I would envisage myself sea-swept through currents of sequins and silks in the manner of Carmen Kass in Numero’s June 08 issue.

In an ideal world this would involve headresses and silks from Nina Ricci, sequins and knits from Christopher Kane and the driftwood style hair of Lou Doillon. As none of these are likely to appear on my person anytime soon, I will instead be scouring vintage shops for old tarnished dresses that may have been swept in by the tide and the great British high street for lace (nets…) and sequins to wear in the daytime with my unwashed and sea-tangled hair. Ariel, eat your heart out.
