He may be famed for his intricate sequin knits, but Markus Lupfer’s latest creation comes with a message – Malaria No More – in a bid to save lives in Africa.

The navy cocktail dress, complete with its black netting overlay and ruffled shoulder detail, will go on sale tomorrow to tie in with Africa Day, where profits will benefit Namibia in South Africa – a place where a whopping two thirds of its population are at risk from Malaria.

“I was inspired by Malaria No More UK’s mission and the simplicity of the project,” the designer tells Vogue UK of his latest venture. “We no longer have malaria here in Europe but in Africa the disease claims 2,000 lives every day and nets are a simple means to helping stop this. As a fabric, netting is strong and surprisingly versatile and I am pleased to see the net finish works on this piece – a somewhat experimental take on a little black dress.”

There’s 750 of these Lupfer charity dresses up for grabs – all of which will be available from ASOS.com tomorrow – but for £55, shopping with a conscious has never been so purse-friendly. We suggest you set your alarms for this one…
