Chris Pratt is a Hollywood sensation. In the span of three years he went from being a successful television comedy actor to Hollywood’s go-to leading man. This December he starred alongside Jennifer Lawrence in Passengers and will return next year to the role that made him a star in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2. Alongside his leading man status, Pratt has also become a style icon and inspiration to men.

Arguably the biggest reason that Chris Pratt has become a style role model is that he proves that becoming a Hollywood leading man is possible to us mere mortals. GQ’s article on Pratt’s best red carpet looks went back to before Guardian’s of the Galaxy and noted that while he didn’t dress badly, his style was a lot more causal and relaxed than his sharp appearances now.

Chris Pratt’s transformation has been one of the biggest topics in Hollywood and men’s health and style magazines. During the press tour of Guardians of the Galaxy, Self.com reported that a fan asked Pratt about his weight loss. Pratt responded with an encouraging message telling the fan to start exercising as “six months seems like a long time unless you’re looking backwards.” It is this humbleness and honesty that has endeared Pratt to many fans across the world.

When it comes to style Pratt is also as open about his change in attitude as he is about his weight loss. Speaking to InStyle he spoke of how he used to be “a guy who wore, like, cargo shorts and a T-shirt…now I’m a little more cognizant of my choices. I don’t just passively have stylists put whatever they want on me. I pay attention.” Despite all the suits he has worn since achieving fame when asked what was his most essential item of clothing Pratt answered “my Ariat boots. They’ve got a good square toe.” It is this simplicity in his style choices that make him a great style icon for men.

His career trajectory has been built on luck followed by hard work. Recounting the story of how he came to Hollywood in an interview with Esquire, Pratt recounted that he was waiting tables at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. when he met a director who told him he was special. He subsequently moved to Hollywood and starred in his first movie Cursed Part III. Unlike many of his contemporaries Pratt achieved fame late, something he has said he was grateful for. His big break through came with Guardians of the Galaxy for Marvel Studios.

The comic book genre has become a huge industry with gaming designer and artist Tyler Davis stating in an interview that “Hollywood had a large part to play in this.” He believes that the reason why comic book films and games are popular is because people who loved the characters as kids still have a love for the medium. Guardians of the Galaxy is seen as one of Marvel’s most successful films and a lot of this is down to the charisma of the its new leading man Chris Pratt.

Look at Chris Pratt now and he is every inch the Hollywood star. Chiseled good looks. Check. Action hero body. Check. Wardrobe of a gentleman. Check. Yet despite all those attributes there is one characteristic that makes him inspirational to men cross the globe: his everyman charisma. Unlike the other big stars there is a sense that Chris Pratt is just a normal guy who did well, and just like him you can achieve leading man status if you work hard.
