Rihanna Covers The September Issue Of British Vogue

To put it simply, the September issue of British Vogue is stunning. Featuring Rihanna adorned with a floral headpiece and sporting super-thin eyebrows, the cover marks the first time a black woman has fronted the most coveted September issue in the history of the magazine.  Shot by Nick Knight and styled by editor-in-chief Edward Enninful, the images inside the fashion bible are just as gorgeous. However the talking point seems to be the singer’s eyebrows which were infact the brainchild of Enninful and were beautifully executed by makeup artist Isamaya Ffrench.  On choosing Rihanna for the September cover, Enninful said in his editor’s letter, “I always knew it had to be Rihanna.” He continued, “A fearless music-industry icon and businesswoman, when it comes to that potent mix of fashion and celebrity, nobody does it quite like her.” We couldn’t agree more!

Rihanna Stuns on Vogue Cover & Opens Up About Beyonce Rivalry

Slowly but surely, Rihanna is silently taking over the world.  After a two year hiatus, the Bajan beauty came back with a killer album titled ANTI,  her first single from the album, “Work” featuring Drake has remained at number 1 for the past four weeks, her latest collection with Puma was met with raving reviews, she has a role in a movie directed by Luc Besson in the works and she’s just snagged another Vogue cover. Shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott , Rihanna looks absolutely stunning in a sequinned dress on this month’s cover. The singer sat down with the mag to talk everything from her relationship status to beef with Beyonce. On her apparent rivalry with Beyonce? ‘Here’s the deal,’she said. ‘They just get so excited to feast on something that’s negative. Something that’s competitive. Something that’s, you know, a rivalry. And that’s just not what I wake up to. Because I can only do me. And nobody else is going to be able to do that.’ On her relationship status? “My schedule is so crazy right now . . . It’s definitely going to be a challenge when I do decide to pursue a relationship . . . but I have hope!” Oh her line with Puma?  ‘I always wanted to do what my brothers were doing. I always wanted to play the games they played and play rough and wear pants and go outside,’ she said. ‘Women feel empowered when they can do the things that are supposed to be only for men, you know? It breaks boundaries, it’s liberating, and it’s empowering when you feel like, Well, I can do that, too.’

Rihanna: Take The Old, Make It Look New

Rihanna’s style is impossible to miss. It’s not just her unmistakable voice, but she’s got a take-no-prisoners approach to fashion and music that keeps her at the top of the charts… and keeps her trying new fashion ideas, even if they don’t quite work. Take her new album, R8, where’s dropped her devotion to the current music trends and gone against the standard Pop Star audience tested grain entirely. Saying she wants to make songs that are “timeless” which she’ll still be able to perform in 15 years, she’s gone more acoustically driven and brought on Kanye West as producer, including guest appearances from some amazing musicians. (You’ve probably already heard the first single to be released from R8, FourFiveSeconds, which features Paul McCartney.) R8 is coming out sometime this year, and while you’re waiting you can get your Rihanna tour tickets now (she’ll be playing Rio on 26 September). Yet while Rihanna is bucking the trend in the studio, she’s been pulling out older trends to wear on the street. Lately that’s meant bringing back some late-90s / early-00s stuff from the club girl scene but, since she’s Rihanna, she’s made everything look almost unworn. Stirrup Pants Take her stirrup pants, the latest zombie trend she’s tried to resuscitate. It’s hard to say it’s working, but it’s also hard to say it’s not working. Am I going to wear it? No, but if you can figure out how make it look fantastic… go for it. Technicolor Fur Coats You can almost hear the techno pumping in the background. The pink faux fur coat just screams “rave queen,” but it’s hard to hate it. The peachy pink shade is nice and it’s either got some cool split sleeves or built-in mittens. Either way I kind of like it. Athletic Sleeves […]

Get Rihanna’s striking and chic Maison Margiela look

Rih Rih’s always had our hearts but the deal was officially sealed when the stylish starlet graced the red carpet at the 57th Grammy Awards in  Giambattista Valli couture…*swoon*. Swapping Valli for Margiela, Rihanna performed in a black trouser suit from Maison Margiela’s SS15 collection and looked gorgeous. In fact, we adored her look so much, that we dedicated this week’s “get the look” feature to the pop princess. Now, if you don’t own a black trouser suit then you must and we repeat must, invest in one for the seasons ahead. Along with it’s white counterpart, this year the black trouser suit will feature heavily in both spring/summer and autumn/winter trends, so it’s well worth investing in this timeless wardrobe staple. To re-create Rihanna’s look we love Jaeger’s soft tailored jacket and trousers. Pair with Kurt Geiger’s gold fabric shoes and this smoking hot Saint Laurent classic monogram black glitter clutch. Finally accessorize with Swarovski’s exquisite all-round necklace for an effortless-glam look!

First look at Alexander Wang for H&M… courtesy of Rihanna!

If one celebrity was going to get her hands on an Alexander Wang for H&M piece before it hit the shelves, we would have bet good money that it would have been Rihanna. If we were gambling girls, of course. The Bajan beauty debuted not one but two pieces from the highly anticipated Alexander Wang for H&M collection as she was taking a stroll in New York City (where she is currently sitting FROW for many of the New York Fashion Week shows – naturally). Rihanna was wearing a grey long-sleeved crop top, which she teamed with matching grey leggings – both of which came emblazoned with ‘AW’. We’re quite excited to finally witness two pieces from the collection, but we are also quite worried that we’re going to need to hit the gym hard before being able to step out in the skin-tight pieces. Here’s hoping that there are more forgiving pieces in the collection too…

Style Jury: Rihanna vs. Beyonce

Both R&B Queens, huge fashion icons, and most importantly both fabulous; this one is a toughie. We don’t know about you but we’re not a massive fan of the Denim trend, let alone full denim, yet of course, both RiRi and Beyonce show it’s possible for them to wear any trend and nail it. Let’s start with RiRi; the singer was spotted in Beverly Hills with her mother on a shopping spree. Not only is her outfit cool but casual, her hair even while tied up and practical oozes laid back beach glamour. On the other side is Beyonce, one half of music’s biggest ever power couple (sorry Britney and JT that double denim catwalk combo was just catastrophic) not only is she a music Queen (amongst other things) but she also helps rule the fashion world, and she is killing it in double denim. Although she and partner Jay Z have been battling rumours of marriage problems, she shows the world that nothing will stop her from dominating the style world along with RiRi which is what makes this ‘who wore it better’ edition a hard one to decide. Unlike Rihanna however, Beyonce wasn’t being snapped out and about. This picture was posted on her Instagram and official website accompanied with the hashtag ‘#mylife’ – a devotion to Blue Ivy maybe? One thing they both did which distinguished them both from the crowd was accessorize. Rihanna chose a leather cap to add a bit of her signature bad girl edge to the ensemble, along with a denim Juliette Jake Wraparound Clutch which complimented the outfit perfectly, and then finished off the outfit with some sleek nude heels. Beyonce on the other hand opted for a pair of bang on trend Cazal round framed black tinted sunglasses, Christian Louboutin Foillies […]

Rihanna goes tribal for W September issue

We were wondering when a Rihanna September issue cover was going to emerge this year. Well, we can wonder no more as the W September cover has just been unveiled, and it features our favourite Bajan pop princess as we’ve never seen her before. Rihanna is posing nude (standard) with nothing but a chunky tribal inspired necklace to protect her modesty on the cover, with the rest of the photos in the accompanying shoot also going down the wild and tribal route. She’s even surrounded by wolves in one of the pictures – it doesn’t get much wilder than that! “I got the vibe that it was slightly animalistic, but also could be interpreted as tribal or survivalist – definitely somebody using their environment as part of their style,” make-up artist Kabuki said. “I did the makeup like it was an abstract painting. “She doesn’t need crazy makeup to be interesting. But if you do something strong on her, it’s not going to overwhelm her. She’s going to own it.” And own it she most certainly did; these are some of the finest, wildest, fiercest pics we think we’ve ever seen of Rihanna. Will anything top it? It’s going to be tough but then again this is Rihanna we are talking about… You can see the rest of Ri-Ri’s wild photoshoot in the W September issue, which also includes pics of her posing with icons Naomi Campbell and Iman. Not to be missed!

The six models who replaced Rihanna in the new Balmain ad campaign…

It was a wise choice choosing Bajan superstar Rihanna to be the face of the Balmain spring/summer 2014 ad campaign images, but we bet creative-director Olivier Rousteing didn’t think about how hard it was going to be to find someone to replace her for the new season. We don’t know how long he and the Balmain team spent racking their brains for a suitable replacement, but we think they will definitely be pleased with the end results, as they have picked six of the best, most dynamic modelling faces of the moment – Cara Delevingne, Jourdan Dunn, Ysaunny Brito, Issa Lish, Kayla Scot and  Binx Walton. “I could not be more happy with this campaign,” said Olivier Rousteing. “It illustrates my vision of the house. These six different women, from such an incredible mix of backgrounds, are all united to present what a modern French house can be.” The modelswere photographed by the legendary Mario Sorrenti under the art direction of Katie Grand, and really do emulate modern-day Parisian fashion at its finest. Well played, Balmain!

Tom Ford cares about Rihanna’s Instagram, not reviews

Basically, Tom Ford doesn’t care what you or the fashion glossies say about him – as long as Rihanna looks good in his designs and shares a cheeky Tweet or Instagram pic, he’s a happy man. “This probably won’t go down well, but customers don’t care any more about reviews or hard-copy publications,” the designer said. “They care what picture Rihanna just Instagrammed while she’s naked in bed, what new shoes she has on, how she’s talking about them. That’s what they respond to.” “It doesn’t mean I don’t care about reviews, but today a lot of people who are reviewing are bloggers. Everyone has a voice now, so the person with the loudest voice is the one people listen to.” He seems to have changed his tune and done a whole 180 on his social media view; remember a few years ago he banned pictures and social media from his shows as he didn’t want people to see his collection before it hit the shops? Where do you guys stand; do you think Tom Ford has a point? [Harper’s Bazaar]

Rihanna vs. Keira Knightley…Who wore Chanel better?

Being a Paris Fashion Week stalwart, the hype and excitement surrounding Kaiser Karl’s seasonal offerings at Chanel knows no bounds. So, naturally, we expect nothing short of a super-stellar front row attendance, too Involved in a fierce frock-off this week are Keira Knightley and Rihanna, and you know it doesn’t get more bring-your-A-game than this pair of Chanel darlings. Arriving at the autumn/winter 2014 show in Paris, both ladies rocked waist-accentuating numbers, making it pretty damn difficult to pick between the two! Although she’s clarified that she won’t repeat-wear her Chanel wedding dress, Keira Knightley still brought all the ‘double C’ charm to the front row. Dressed in a monochromatic cropped dress, her tiny waist made for the main attraction, beautifully accompanied by pointed gold pumps and a teensy chain-strap Chanel bag, natch. But, intent on stealing the show (as always), Rihanna bumped up the chic levels in a lilac dress of similar style. Bringing her own brand of quirk to the look, RiRi mixed it up with matching bum bag and the shoe-cessory du jour: sneakers. Rounding off her look were retro-inspired cat-eye sunglasses and an oversized pearl bracelet. So, whose look is worthy of stealing the front row Queen (C) Bee crown? Tough one, isn’t it? Given both ladies subscribe to completely opposite schools of style, we can’t forget Mr. Lagerfeld encourages a pretty-gone-hyper-cool approach to fashion. So, inevitably, Mademoiselle RiRi takes the style crown this week. Whose look wins for you? [Images: Rihanna; Keira]

Rihanna is Worst Dressed of the Week in Prada

After fashion killin’ it (‘scuse the pun) on the Balmain and Chanel front row, Rihanna took a, well, turn for the worse at the Miu Miu autumn/winter 2014 show earlier this week. Debuting a car crash of a look from the Prada autumn/winter 2014 collection, the far-from-bashful Barbadian paired this rather outré chill-blocker with a deep-cut, chevron-print sweater and thigh-high black stockings. As always, RiRi wasn’t short of an award-winning repertoire of accessories, pairing the look with black sunglasses, a statement ear cuff, purple neck scarf and a deep red lip. Black ankle-strap sandals and a healthy dose of the Take Care singer’s famed air-of-don’t-care rounded of yet another naturally eccentric front row look. But even a round-up of fitting accoutrements couldn’t save this look; there’s just too much going on here – even by Rihanna’s standards! So far this season, what have you made of Rihanna’s frenzied show appearances? Given her star is far from small, and top designers dress her all the time, is her attendance, or rather, lack of punctuality, at shows too much of a distraction? Has to be said, though: fashion month wouldn’t be half as much fun without the Only Girl In The World who’d dare to flash an ample amount of boobage, strategically covered with a fur snood. Rihanna shows her support for Balmain at Paris Fashion Week

Rihanna is officially in the city of love for Paris Fashion Week, and the new face of Balmain made sure she supported Olivier Rousteing by attending the autumn/winter 2014 show in a fierce pre-fall 2014 ensemble. She chose a typically Ri Ri look that came in an army inspired shade of khaki, and made sure she flashed some of her perfect pins at the same time too. This look oozed sexy sophistication in a way that only Rihanna knows how! And it looks like she has been taking hair styling tips from her good pal Katy Perry. KP rocked the Cleopatra hairdo at the BRIT Awards last week, and now Rihanna has taken it upon herself to try out the daring air trend too. We definitely think she pulled it off – we’ll have a tough time telling you who we think rocked it better though. Let’s call it a tie and leave it at that! [Image]

Julien Macdonald on not letting Katy Perry keep her Brits dress, and waiting for his Rihanna moment

We’re still excited about everything that happened at the Brit Awards on Wednesday night. All the big winners, the red carpet triumphs, the fact that Kate Moss accepted David Bowie’s award in his Ziggy Stardust rabbit playsuit – it was all going on! But the one designer who stood out to us was our Strictly Come Dancing fave Mr Julien Macdonald, who dressed not one or even two, but three ladies for their red carpet and stage appearances. Ellie Goulding, Jessie J and Katy Perry all wore Julien Macdonald at some point on Wednesday night, and the designer told Grazia that he was absolutely delighted – especially with Ms Perry – as he didn’t find out until the last minute… “You always loan out several dresses, so you never know what they are wearing until they actually hit the red carpet. I was over the moon – it was an amazing response,” he said. “Katy Perry was a surprise to me. She wore a brand new dress, as it was literally straight off the runway. I thought she looked amazing and glamorous and elegant – I don’t think you can ask for a bigger popstar!” It was a tough decision for Katy though as she apparently wanted to try on every single piece from the collection… “She had watched the show and picked it as one of her favourite pieces. She actually liked almost every dress and wanted to try them all on, but we had to say no because we have major buying appointments. We said you have to just choose the two you love the best. “Unfortunately they all ask to keep them and we have to say ‘err, no there is only one in the world and we need it back!’ All celebrities now have their own […]

Rihanna covers Vogue US March issue in Louis Vuitton

We guess the rumours of Kim Kardashian landing the coveted Vogue US March cover were false, but that doesn’t mean we are disappointed with the fashion Bible’s actual cover star, as it’s none other than Rihanna! The Bajan singer was photographed for her third American Vogue cover by David Sims, and is rocking a sheer cropped Louis Vuitton top and embellished jeans. She also models highly fashionable gear from the likes of Alexander McQueen, Calvin Klein (bottom left), Maison Martin Margiela, Versace, and more in the stunning editorial. Not to be missed! Rihanna’s interview are never dull, and this one was no exception as she talks fame, rebellion, and experimenting with men’s clothes… “When I was thirteen or fourteen, I didn’t want to wear what my mom wanted me to wear. I was very much a boy in my style, my demeanour,” she said. “All my friends were guys. I loved things that boys did. I loved being easy with my clothes. I loved wearing hats and scarves and snapbacks on my head. It was my way of rebelling. I wanted to dress like my brother. After a while, it was just easier for Mom to dress us both the same. We wore the same jeans, the same T-shirts.” And speaking of rebellion… “I don’t go out of my way to be a rebel or to have that perception, but a lot of the decisions I make, a lot of the direction I want to move, is against the grain, or against society’s tight lane, and I’m aware of that sometimes. It might not be fitting with the norm, but that’s OK for me.” Make sure you pick up your copy of American Vogue’s March issue to read more of the interview and see more wow-worthy pictures! Rihanna wows in 20-year-old Chanel suit on Good Morning America

Well doesn’t Rihanna scrub up well? Rihanna is a versatile artist and dresser, and although we don’t have a problem with the majority of her racy costumes, we love it when she surprises us and goes for something on the chic and elegant scale too. And nothing screams chic and lady-like better than vintage Chanel, right? The Bajan singer made a guest appearance on Good Morning America to promote her work with MAC, and wore a bright coral skirt suit from the Chanel spring/summer 1994 (no, not a typo – this suit really is 20 years old!) collection for the occasion. Her outfit proved what we already knew, and that’s that the French fashion House really does make timeless creations! Rihanna completed her chic appearance by wearing some gorgeous Manolo Blahnik pumps, wearing her hair sleek and straight, and opting for minimal make-up save for a bold red lip. One of our favourite Ri Ri looks in months; what say you? [Image]

First look: Rihanna for Balmain

Well, this is an unexpectedly wonderful surprise… Rihanna is the brand new face of Balmain! The Bajan songstress was shot for the spring/summer 2014 ad campaign by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin in New York, with creative direction from Atelier Franck Durand and styling by Ri Ri’s personal stylist Mel Ottenberg. Doesn’t she look incredible in the two images above? The collection looks like it was made for her, which might not be the hardest thing to believe… “In front of the camera, she makes you feel like she is the only girl in the world,” said creative director Oliver Rousteing. “When the woman that inspires you wears your creations, your vision feels complete.” Aw, we never had the creative director of Balmain down as a huge Rihanna fan, but then again, who isn’t in love with Rihanna on and off the stage? We can expect to see the ad campaign images drop in the January issues of our favourite fashion glossies, so keep your eyes peeled! [WWD]

Rihanna wears Dior for Glamour US November, reveals who her ultimate style icon is

Rihanna is Glamour US’s November cover star, looking very demure and elegant in a simple black Dior bodysuit. Rihanna all covered up – who would have thunk it, eh? However, her covered-up look makes a lot more sense to us now that we know who she regards as her ultimate style icon. How surprised would you be if we told you it was none other than the late Princess Diana? “You know who is the best who ever did it? Princess Diana. She was like – she killed it. Every look was right,” Ri Ri told the mag. “She was gangsta with her clothes. She had these crazy hats. She got oversize jackets. I loved everything she wore.” An interesting revelation, no? Rihanna’s Glamour issue hits newsstands on October 8th, and it’s a good’un as she talks to the mag about her old friends, her new TV show, and the true source of her fearless attitude! Ps: do you love her curly crop? We can’t decide how we feel about it!

Rihanna gets permanent injunction against Topshop

We told  you last month that Rihanna came out victorious in the Rihanna v Topshop court battle (the high street store used an unlicensed image of her on one of their tees without seeking her permission) but the court case has now gone one step further. The Bajan singer has now won a permanent injunction against Topshop, as the high street store is banned from ever using her image in the future. So if you ever see a Rihanna tee in Topshop again, you know that someone somewhere has been naughty, because it isn’t supposed to be there! Rihanna and her team are reportedly seeking around £919,000 in legal bills (a sum which the judge said himself was “startling”), but he has now settled on a “reasonable” £200,000 interim payment. Phew. Do we think this is the last of the Topshop and Rihanna court battle? Can we stop reading up on legal jargon now?

Rihanna wins Topshop legal battle!

Good news for Rihanna – the Bajan singer has just won her court battle against Topshop, after she sued the high street store for unlawfully using a picture of her on one of their tops. The offending image was taken by a pap while Ri Ri was shooting her We Found Love video, and was uncannily similar to the one used on the CD sleeve which her legal team said might confuse fans. Case judge Mr Justice Briss (what a great first name for a judge!) said that while a famous person cannot control the reproduction of their image – and the photo didn’t breach her privacy – the fact that the shop didn’t seek her permission is what lost them the case. “The mere sale by a trader of a T-shirt bearing an image of a famous person is not, without more, an act of passing off,” he said. “However, the sale of this image of this person on this garment by this shop in these circumstances is a different matter. I find that Topshop’s sale of this Rihanna T-shirt without her approval was an act of passing off.” Topshop are obviously disappointed with the verdict… “We’re surprised and disappointed by the judgment handed down today,” a spokesperson for Topshop said. “We feel that the fact that Rihanna has shopped, worn and had a relationship with Topshop for several years appears to have been detrimental to our case. We robustly dispute the Judge’s conclusion. We believe that our customers clearly understand when we are undertaking a collaboration such as the one we created with Kate Moss over several seasons.” Hmm, will Topshop be appealing the decision? UK’s Lucy Mecklenburgh beats Rihanna to “best bikini body” title

As it’s the hottest day of the year so far here in Blighty, the subject of bikinis is actually somewhat refreshing. (We know we’re not actually sitting on a beach in aforementioned bikini, but the subject makes sitting in a warm office slightly more bearable. Don’t ask us why!) The results of a “best bikini body” poll have just been released, and we are as shocked as we are proud to learn that a UK face was chosen – and that face is none other than TOWIE regular Lucy Mecklenburgh. The beautiful brunette beat off stiff competition from the likes of Rihanna, Khloe Kardashian, Beyonce and Jessica Alba who came second, third, and joint fourth respectively. Do you agree with the results? So, even though Lucy doesn’t get as much practice in a bikini as the rest of the other girls do, she still managed to reign supreme in the poll. You go, girl! If you don’t have the confidence to rock a bikini this summer, why don’t you go for some tummy flattering swimsuits instead? They’re just as gorgeous as a regular two-piece in our opinion! What to expect from Rihanna’s autumn/winter 2013 collection

So, what do Rihanna and her River Island co-designer Adam Selman have up their sleeves for the autumn/winter 2013 collection, then? Well, if we are to believe Mr Selman, we can apparently expect a far more diverse, ambitious, and fun collection, which is something that we could totally get on board with! “We had a lot more fun this time round,” he began. “I can’t give too much away, but we travel so much and experience so much of the world. We’re very lucky to do so and that definitely inspired us. The idea of sports uniforms and masculine vs feminine is something we evolved from last season too. There was a lot of pressure with our debut – this felt more relaxed.” You may recall that Ri Ri’s debut collection was a tad on the skimpy side (fair enough – she is constantly in sunny climes and she did say she designed the collection so she could wear the pieces herself, so fair play to her) so how did she go about designing heavier items for the chillier seasons? “The way I approach winter style is to layer up summer clothes and Rihanna does the same. But there are coats and sweatshirts – those pieces were key. It’s a little more refined.” Phew – we will be getting some fine pieces of outerwear too! Oh and don’t worry, there will be some mean dresses perfect for the Christmas party season in the collection too – Rihanna and Adam really have thought of everything! The Rihanna for River Island autumn/winter 2013 collection launches on September 12. [Vogue] [Image]

Rihanna for River Island, take two: Here’s what we really think!

After enticing Ri-wannabe’s with her debut collection for River Island, the queen of everything is back with more fashion to feed our sartorial souls. Following her hotly anticipated London Fashion Week show, Rihanna’s summer collection for high street giant, River Island finally landed in stores and online on May 25, and after sizing up the fashion credentials of the superstar’s wares, we naturally weighed in with our own opinion. Celebrity-retail giant collaborations are often a frightening matter, with more questions circulating through the fashion press than pieces in the collection itself: did she/he design it? Is it a touch-and-go type of thing? It is even a real depiction of the celebrity in question? But Rihanna, a star in the off-stage style stakes without a doubt, knows a thing or two about constructing a dress to perfectly show of her envious bod, or how cropped a crop top should really be, in order to show the extent of work she’s putting in at the gym. Returning to the real stuff, the summer collection is a mix of staple pieces we often see the Bajan beauty sporting, punctuated with splashes of print, statement embellishment and jolts of colour. The collection really is the epitome of summer, with a lack of longer hemlines (probably owing to Rihanna’s love of flesh flashing), and nearly everything is either sheer, or sports a slit or a spindly strap. Much of the collection harks back to some iconic looks worn by Rihanna, which have now become a recognisable part of her signature style. Take the floral boys shorts, for example, which take us back Ri’s Alexander Wang leather shorts and tee look at the Battleship photo call in Sydney. Or the black stiletto sandals from the collection, which are reminiscent of Rihanna’s love affair with the Manolo […]

Rihanna casts personal stylist as Styled to Rock judge

In a bid to boost ratings and ensure her Styled to Rock show is the best it can be when it debuts across the pond, Rihanna has brought in a very special final judge for the first series of the US version. And it’s none other than her own personal stylist Mel Ottenberg. “Mel and I have such a similar aesthetic,” Rihanna said. “It’s as if he can read my mind sometimes. I love his attention to detail and all the research he does for every look. He is more than a stylist. He is an artist.” As well as dressing the Bajan singing sensation, Mel has also styled the likes of Cate Blanchett, Chloe Sevigny and even James Franco, so we’re confident he will make a great judge on the show. As we told you last week, he will be joined by Victoria’s Secret model Erin Wasson and rap-star Pharrell Williams. Let’s just hope the contestants and their designs are as promising as the new judging panel! [Express]

Victoria’s Secret model Erin Wasson for Rihanna’s Styled to Rock

Rihanna’s Styled to Rock definitely isn’t getting axed – and to prove it, the gorgeous Victoria’s Secret model Erin Wasson and music star Pharrell Williams have been tapped as judges for the US version of the show. “As a leading model and mainstay in the fashion industry, Erin’s unapologetic approach to fashion and free-spirited style will give the Styled to Rock designers invaluable insight,” said Salaam Coleman Smith, a spokesperson of Style Media. “With Rihanna as executive producer and Pharrell and Erin as mentors, our designers will gain incredible experience while also being challenged in new ways as they compete to earn the title of America’s next trendsetting designer.” Nicola Roberts and Henry Holland were the judges on the UK version which aired on Sky Living last year, and although we couldn’t fault their contributions to the show, we can see why the producers brought in a Victoria’s Secret babe to try and boost ratings. Fingers crossed it goes down well with the American crowd! [Vogue]

Is Rihanna suing Topshop?

Uh oh, looks like Topshop is in Rihanna’s bad books as the high street store is apparently selling t-shirts with the Bajan singer’s face on without her permission. Ri Ri and her team reportedly asked the shop to stop selling the tees but were unsuccessful, so she is now taking legal action against the retailer. Yikes! “She has spent almost $1 million (£660,000) in litigation at this point,” a source said. “She says it’s the principle, and wants to make a statement about it. “Rihanna’s management asked Topshop a number of times to stop selling her image and were told, ‘We do what we want.’ They buy the pictures from a photographer, but they do not pay the artist licensing fees. Unfortunately, UK law does not protect the artist. Reps for Rihanna and Topshop have yet to comment, but we’ll keep you posted. Whose side are you on? [NY Post]

First look at Rihanna’s second River Island collection

Rihanna is back in the River Island studio working on her sophomore collection for the high street store, and she’s treated us to a few sneak peeks in a behind-the-scenes video. The Barbadian singer and designer not only talks us through the summer collection, but also shows us the initial drawings, lets us watch as a model has her fitting, and opens up about her designing process… “I made a piece for everybody in my crew,” she said. We all have different body types and different tastes – some are braver than others. “I think like that because that’s how women in the world are. We’re all different, we like different things, we have different occasions and different moods.” Sounds like a good way to approach it! Rihanna’s second collection is slated to launch on May 25th. Who’s excited?

Rihanna vs. Nicole Richie: Who wore Tom Ford’s crocodile dress better?

When Tom Ford’s crocodile dress debuted on the red carpet last year, courtesy of Barbadian beauty Rihanna, we knew it was going to be a massive hit. Well, not many people can successfully replicate Rihanna’s style with the same level of bravado. But then Nicole Richie, too, made her croc debut in the same dress, (albeit a slightly modified version) and a fash-off naturally ensued. Taking to the red carpet at the 2012 Met Gala, Rihanna wowed us in a floor-length, Fall 2012 Tom Ford crocodile dress that showed off her enviously toned body to perfection. The stunning singer kept her makeup to a minimum, opting for a dark nail colour and a flawless complexion, letting her personality escape through a retro-fierce up do. Putting a spin on the Good Girl Gone Bad’s look was Nicole Richie, who wore a cropped version of the same dress, complete with power shoulders, to Clive Davis’ 2013 Pre-Grammy Gala back in February. Looking every inch the fashionista we know her to be, a swept back bob cut and signature strong eyes, accessorised with a black clutch, Louboutin pumps and a slick of red on the nails completed the look. But who is the official style trophy stealer here? It’s a difficult decision given both ladies’ serious style credentials, but there’s only room for one fash-off champion…And it’s Rihanna, hands down. Her every style move (when she is clothed, that is) makes us go gaga and she even appeared on our Met Gala Best Dressed list (natch), so we couldn’t really betray the high priestess of cool! Nicole, we love you, but Rihanna’s daring approach to dressing wins over your vanilla rendition of the croc dress!

Riccardo Tisci creates custom Givenchy costumes for Rihanna’s Diamonds tour

Rihanna’s brand new Diamonds World Tour kicked off in Buffalo on Friday, and two of the stunning costumes she emerged in came courtesy of Riccardo Tisci at Givenchy. Well, he has proven himself as a master of stage costumes – just look at the outfit he create for Madonna at The Superbowl last year for proof! “I enjoyed making these looks,” the designer said. “Rihanna represents what young and amazing means today. She is punk and talented. She offers intelligence, energy and pure beauty. She is the face of her generation.” No arguments there! One of the pieces Riccardo Tisci created is a stunning printed parka with gold bullet motifs, embroidery and Swarovski Elements – reportedly inspired by his latest menswear show – while another piece – a floor-length black cape – is sure to bring drama to the show and juxtapose the overt sexiness quite nicely. Riccardo Tisci has once again excelled in the stage costume department from what we can see in the sketches above! What do you guys think? [WWD] [Images]

Rihanna’s Elle UK April covers finally unveiled

Last month, word on the blogosphere was that Rihanna has been chose to front Elle UK’s April issue, and now the covers (yes, plural!) have officially been released. Happy days! RiRi was shot by Mariano Vivanco, and is sporting an instantly recognisable monochrome Louis Vuitton spring/summer 2013 top on one cover, and a navy blue Prada piece on the other. And as the Bajan goddess is also a designer now, it seemed only right to showcase her debut River Island collection too, which is why the skirt and bra featured on both covers were selected. We love a versatile mix! The accompanying interview was as interesting as ever, with Rihanna keen to tell the world that she is strong, honest, and in control… “‘Is she a drug addict?’ No. ‘Is she an alcoholic?’ No. ‘Is she a victim?’ No. That’s when I got the gun tattoo. It was a symbol of strength. I’ll never be a victim,” she explained. “That’s why I’m posting pictures of myself smoking pot, to tell the truth about myself.” Interesting… And that’s just a small snippet – we can only imagine what other gems she will come out with! Both covers will hit newsstands tomorrow, March 6th, so you haven’t got long to decide which one you’ll be picking up!

Is Rihanna for River Island real fashion?

Whilst show-hopping at Somerset House this fashion season, I stopped off in one of the café’s dotted conveniently next to the entrance of the exhibition I had spent ten hours gawking at. Sat, almost inhaling a much needed caffeine fix, my ears happened to fall upon a rather heated debate between two relatively oppositely styled fashion week attendees: the interviewer happened to be dressed in run-around journo gear, complete with obligatory back pack and tatty notebook in hand. The interviewee, from what I could hear, was an aspiring designer. Their topic of conversation: Rihanna’s latest collection for River Island. Hitting stores on March 5, the collection has been a point contention ever since its London Fashion Week debut. Badgal RiRi’s first ‘official’ venture into fashion came courtesy of high street super brand, River Island. Known for her penchant of the Nineties, with a healthy dose of sport-luxe thrown in (can you hear the multiple KERCHING’S, Mr. Wang?), it was pretty obvious these references were going to crop up in the collaboration. But,  the point the two ladies were disagreeing over in what could only be described as a highly civilised cat fight was the hands-on approach to designing (or lack of) many celebrity collaborations are guilty of. Although pictures have emerged showing the Bajan beauty getting ‘involved’ and inspecting the collection, reports have claimed that co-designer Adam Selman was responsible for almost all of the handiwork, with Rihanna instructing via telephone and then arriving near the unveiling date to inspect samples. She took the bow last Saturday night, and it’s certainly called Rihanna for River Island, but was the interviewers argument, that a celebrity cannot rightfully claim a collection if they haven’t had any physical creative input into the design process, a justified one to put forward? The interviewee was quick […]

Rihanna launches make-up range with MAC

Not content with just launching her debut clothing line with River Island, Bajan pop Princess Rihanna will now be turning her talents to make-up by teaming up with MAC cosmetics on a series of collections set to launch later this year. “We always say that MAC likes to go on a date but doesn’t really want to go into a relationship,” said John Demsey a spokesperson for MAC’s parent company Estée Lauder. “But this relationship with Rihanna is a long-term one that involves the development of four distinct colour initiatives.” “These four collections are like four tracks on a Rihanna compilation. Each one has its own vibe, look, special makeup packaging and flavour. This is really the convergence of pop culture, fast fashion, and iconic style and makeup.” The first of the collections, entitled ‘RiRi Woo’, is slated to land in stores and online in May – we’ll give you the exact date as soon as we know it! What do you think? Should Rihanna stick to music and clothes or are you glad to see her branching out into cosmetics? Ps: Happy 25th birthday Rihanna!  [Yahoo]

Rihanna for River Island ad campaigns released

Despite only showcasing her debut River Island collection in London on Saturday night, Rihanna has wasted no time in further promoting her range by already getting the ad campaign images in circulation. What do you think? Surprised she doesn’t appear in any of them herself? The ad campaign was shot by none other than Mario Sorrenti back in December, and features hot models Jourdan Dunn, a rosy-haired Charlotte Free, Tao Okamoto, Ataui Deng and Bambi Northwood Blyth. We’re glad the jumpsuit that Ri-Ri was snapped out in a few months ago features in the ads too, because it just so happens to be one of our favourite pieces. Rihanna for River Island officially hits stores on March 5 so maybe take the morning off work if you want to be one of the first in line to snap something up. We have a feeling it’s going to sell out pretty fast!

Is Rihanna headlining Glastonbury this year?

Designing a collection for one of our favourite high street stores might not be Rihanna’s only reason to jet into Britain this year. According to various reports that have been doing the rounds this morning, the singer has been tapped to headline the Glastonbury Festival later this summer… and we won’t lie, we’re already pretty excited! “She is the perfect choice,” a ‘source’ allegedly told The Daily Star. “Beyonce stole the show two years ago and there’s no reason why Rihanna can’t do the same. She’s got a huge back-catalogue and is undoubtedly the biggest female artist around at the moment bar Adele.” Hopefully there will be an official statement confirming the speculation soon so we can get our tickets. And who knows, Ri Ri might even take to the stage in her very own Rihanna for River Island collection! [Marie Claire]

Rihanna scoops Best Dressed of the Week in custom Azzedine Alaia

Scene stealer; show stopper; jaw dropper. Whatever term you think fit to describe this week’s Best Dressed candidate, we’re pretty sure it will be prefixed with Bajan beauty Rihanna’s name. In the news for almost everything, all of the time, Riri took us by surprise for totally non-Chris Brown related purposes earlier in the week, when she stepped onto the 2013 Grammy  Awards red carpet in a stunning, custom-made Alaia dress. Perfectly sweet and a super-refreshing breather from her usual street style, the ‘Stay’ singer didn’t need to add much else to her look to turn heads. Pretty curls, her signature red lip and minimal jewellery ensured the dress –complete with a train and sheer neckline (this is the ever-daring Rihanna, after all!) – was the focus of all eyes. The hairstyle reminds us of a young Rihanna, and, although for most of the night she was clinging to arm candy we’d rather like to forget, her red carpet look is simply unforgettable. Having naturally made our Grammy’s Best Dressed list this week, it was a no-brainer Riri would land the BDOTW spot!

Rihanna for Chanel?

Try and contain yourselves, but over the past 24 hours a few online sources are speculating that Rihanna and Chanel could very well have teamed up on a new and exciting collaboration. Where did the rumours initially start from, you ask? The Barbadian singer-cum-designer Tweeted a picture of herself after a “secret” shoot with Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott… and the heavily embellished Chanel necklace she is wearing in the image – as well as the Chanel-face shade of red lipstick and nail polish – is what let the potential cat out the bag. We don’t know any more details at the moment, but we don’t think Karl Lagerfeld would be opposed to tapping Ri Ri for a Chanel project. After all, he likes his edgy ad campaign stars; remember Alice Dellal in those stunning Boy Chanel ads? Watch this space!

Watch Rihanna talk about her upcoming River Island collection

It’s only a matter of weeks until we will feast our eyes on the entire Rihanna for River Island collection as it makes its debut on the London Fashion Week catwalks, but the Bajan singer-turned-designer has given us an even sneakier peek into the line by talking about it in a great new video. “I have wanted to design my own fashion label for a very long time,” she said in the vid. “This has been something I wanted to do ever since I started loving fashion. Every time I saw something on a rack there was something I wanted to do to change it and so I thought that the only way I could do that is by designing the perfect thing for me.” “The kids say what’s cool and the designers go and design it. Why not go to the source when you want to be ahead of the trend? I wanted to create something that’s inspirational, new and fresh – that’s why I wanted to work with River Island.” We can’t deny that Rihanna is one of the trendiest and most “fresh” female celebs out there at the moment, which is why we can’t wait to see what she’s been working on all this time with co-designer Adam Selman. Not long to go!

Rihanna scoops Best Dressed of the Week in Alexander Wang SS’13

Wearing next season now, (natch), Rihanna’s whiteout performance on last Sunday’s X Factor final left us speechless. Heavenly vocals aside, our eyes were fixated on her Alexander Wang SS’13 runway-fresh look, which she pulled off with aplomb (no surprises there)! Slices of skin peeked through the clinical white, float-on-the-body dress, and those calf strap white heels have got us, well, head over heels in love with them! Sporting a fresh pixie cut and strong scarlet pout, Rihanna looked every inch the sartorially accomplished superstar that she is, as she performed Stay from her latest album, ‘Unapologetic’, alongside other major hits such as We Found Love. The demure white number is a drastic change from the risqué style Riri adopted for her X Factor performance two years ago, prompting several viewer complaints. But then again, when was the Bajan babe ever PC?! A brilliant, if not ironic way to finish the year; in a snowy white dress that teases us about how far off summer is!

Rihanna steps out in a jumpsuit from her upcoming River Island collection

If there’s one thing every celeb knows, it’s that there’s nothing like a bit of casual self-promotion… Rihanna has treated her fans and general fashionistas to a sneak peek at her upcoming debut collection for River Island by stepping out in one of the pieces while going about her business in LA. The Bajan pop princess wore a navy blue suede hooded jumpsuit, which is only the second piece from the range we have had a cheeky glimpse of (The first one was this baby right here, which she debuted on good old Twitter!) as the collection has been kept very hush-hush so far. The collection isn’t released until February next year, but we’re hoping to get a few more ideas of what we can expect from it when the ad campaign – shot by Mario Sorrenti and starring Jourdan Dunn – is released. What do you think of Ri-Ri’s jumpsuit? Does it look like something you would buy and wear? [Image]
