Sandra Bullock earned HOW MUCH last year?!

Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock was the highest paid actress of 2013, as Forbes reports that she earned – wait for it – $51 million! Let’s take a minute to think about that… The actress mainly had her role in Gravity to thank for her epic fortune and Forbes top spot, as it won seven Oscars and seven BAFTAs (among other awards) and made a whopping $716 million at the box office. Way to go, Sandy! Sandra proved that Hollywood is still very much a seasoned actress’s game, as she beat the likes of younger actresses such as Jennifer Lawrence and Scarlett Johansson to the top spot. (Although we have to point out that J-Law did in fact come second, earning $34 million, followed by Jennifer Aniston with $31 million.) Are you surprised to see Sandra Bullock at the top of this list or do you think she deserves her top spot? Thoughts below!

Paloma Faith vs. Sandra Bullock…Who wore Burberry Prorsum better?

It seems that some recent Burberry lovin’ has called for a cross-Atlantic (fashun) war, as Paloma Faith and Sandra Bullock donned an identical, pre-fall 2013, top-to-toe look by the heritage British fashion house. First to sport the t-shirt and skirt ensemble was Sandra, who perfected the refined-yet-rockier approach to red carpet dressing at the BAFTA LA 2014 Awards Season tea party, back in January. Wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with iconic London landmarks atop a dark emerald green, knee-length skirt, Sandra looked every inch Hollywood royalty – sans the stuffy dress. Smoky eyes to compliment the evening-perfect skirt, a jewelled statement necklace and simple black pumps completed the look. Opting to go hands-free, Sandra rounded off her outfit with a nifty shoulder bag. But giving the Heat actress a run for her money was singer, actress and all-round-cool-girl, Paloma Faith, who arrived at the Burberry Prorsum autumn/winter 2014 show in the same look, earlier this month. But, being a front row favourite – she also performed at the show- comes with its pressures, and Paloma opted to add a touch of personal quirk to her look. Pairing a maroon hat with matching coat over her outfit, her standout mane, dark red lips and feline-flick eyeliner added the perfect final touches. Black pumps and a bold pose finished the look nicely. But, being a style stand-off, there can only be one winner; and this week, we’re going with…Paloma! Thanks to that topper and coat combo, the Brit babe  topped our list and rocked Prorsum like a pro. We’re totally diggin’ Sandra’s gritty, uptown look, but she could’ve done without that dated shoulder bag. Whose look wins for you? [Images: Paloma; Sandra]

Sandra Bullock is a vision in pink and orange Alex Perry

We learnt last year that pink and orange is a winning colour combination for Sandra Bullock, so we totally understand why she decided to give it another go. The stunning actress stole the show as she arrived at the Palm Spring International Film Festival Award Gala in, you guessed it, Palm Springs at the weekend, wearing a bold and eye-catching Alex Perry sheath dress for the occasion. She accessorised with leg elongating nude pumps, a gorgeous gold clutch to match her golden glow, sleek swept back brunette shiny locks, and perfect make-up. We knew there was a reason we looked up to Sandra Bullock; we’re pretty excited to see what else she has to offer this year. We reckon she’s going to blow us away during awards season if this sneak preview is anything to go by.

Sandra Bullock, we love your style!

We couldn’t help but say “wow” when we saw Sandra Bullock walk the red carpet in London a few days ago for the Gravity European promotional tour. Then again, Sandra has been on a sartorial winning streak these past 10 months; so much so that we found it pretty tricky to narrow down our ultimate favourite looks from this year alone. With a lot of umming, ahhing and overall deliberating, here are five of our fave Sandra Bullock looks of the year. 1. Sandra’s legs are definitely two of her best features, so we totally don’t blame her for wanting to show them off. With her perfect pins, sleek glossy hair, youthful appearance, and a white Giambattista Valli mini dress, she definitely gives girls half her age a run for their money. 2. Despite walking the red carpet with a certain Mr George Clooney, all eyes were definitely on Sandra Bullock thanks to her red hot J Mendel dress and flawless Hollywood hair and make-up. 3. She was competing with the cream of the crop, the finest A listers in the world, but we think Sandra Bullock definitely held her own and stood out at the Oscars at the beginning of the year. And we think her stunning Elie Saab dress and sleek locks played a big part in that. 4. Sexy Sandra – it definitely has a nice ring to it, and that’s all we were thinking when we saw her turn up on The Tonight Show in this lovely lacey (and racy) Azzaro number. Miaow! 5. We love it when Sandra experiments with colour; her hair and skin tone make certain colours look really striking on her, and this cobalt blue Alberta Ferretti jumpsuit is a fine example. Which is your favourite Sandra Bullock look? Tweet us your […]

Sandra Bullock wows in Marc Jacobs for Vogue US October (her fifth time!)

Here it is – the highly anticipated October issue of Vogue US. And we’re beyond thrilled to find that it features none other than Sandra Bullock on the cover. This is the fifth time she has covered the fashion Bible… and it’s not hard to see why! The Oscar-winning actress is rocking a backless sequin Marc Jacobs gown for the Peter Lindbergh lensed cover, and is also working dresses by Donna Karan, Calvin Klein Collection and Michael Kors in the outer-space-themed editorial too. Stunning is definitely an understatement! While she doesn’t go into too much detail about her high profile divorce from Jesse James or her current love life, she does share some interesting views about it… “I am exactly where I want to be now,” she said. “You can’t go backward. I’m not going backward. I’m grateful that I’m here, blessed to have what I have. Nobody can be prepared for anything. “If you end up in a place where you can look back and go, ‘It happened, but I’m so lucky to be sitting where I am sitting…’” How very zen of her! Click here to see more pics and read more of the accompanying editorial – a great lunchtime read! And keep your eyes peeled for pics of Sandra on the Gravity promotional trail, because we predict some jaw-dropping red carpet style moments!

Sandra Bullock is Best Dressed of the Week in J.Mendel

Give us a red dress, and we’re all yours. There’s just something about catching sight of a crimson number – nipped perfectly at every body-contouring angle – that leaves us lusting for the perfect LRD in our wardrobes. But knocking ourselves back to reality, (and off the mentally laid out red carpet), we can’t stop ogling Sandra Bullock’s pretty darn perfect red gown! Attending the opening ceremony of 2013 Venice Film Festival, which also doubled up as the premiere for her latest film, Gravity; Sandra opted for a striking J.Mendel resort 2014 gown. Although partly camouflaging with the red carpet beneath her, the strapless bustier gown, draped beautifully to cinch the waist, held its own at the glam event. Styled with Roger Vivier ankle strap sandals and clutch, Sandra ensured her gown took centre stage by keeping her make-up soft, and hair swept back into a glossy updo. An Oscar-worthy look for sure (if there ever were an official fashion Oscars), it’s a no brainer for BDOTW! What do you make of our verdict? Who is your best dressed of the week? [Image]

Sandra Bullock suits up in Alexander McQueen

The red carpet is all about the glamorous dress – but sometimes it’s nice to see something a little different, and the suit jacket is the perfect alternative. As Mr Yves Saint Laurent, king of Le Smoking, would tell you, it can be a veritable winner in the style stakes if done correctly. Sandra Bullock showed us the power of tuxedo in this Alexander McQueen spring/summer 2012 jacket and trouser combo. She was in New York last week to promote her new film Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and chose to wear this daring look on the red carpet. We love the belt detailing on the jacket and the way it hugs Sandra’s waist. The slinky satin material also gave it an evening touch and prevented it from looking too ‘career woman’. She accessorised with huge sparkly rings and a gorgeous silver clutch bag while her glossy straight hair and smoky eye completed her look with a certain je ne sais quoi. Full marks for the lady in Le Smoking! [poll id=”259″]

Sandra Bullock reveals her beauty secrets

Sandra Bullock’s beauty regime only takes eight minutes. The ‘Proposal’ actress can get ready very quickly, adding it would take her even less time if her hair was more manageable. She said: “I use a face cloth and Artistry cream for my daily beauty regime. I put mascara on today because I wanted to make a bit of an effort. My entire routine takes eight minutes since I have this mop on my head I need to wrangle. I wash condition, put product in if it’s a little haywire. I like it when it’s messy-in-your-face bedhead. It looks like it just happened.”

Which of these ladies had the most expensive Oscars look?

It goes without saying that Hollywood’s hottest actresses walk down the Oscars red carpet wearing millions of Dollars in dresses and accessories… but whose outfit from last month’s Academy Awards red carpet cost the most? Why that would be Best Actress winner Cate Blanchett, whose overall outfit cost an eye-watering $18.1 Million. Cate’s stunning Armani Privé gown was worth $100,000, with her Chopard 62 opal earrings, diamond bracelet ring reportedly being worth $18 Million. And she doesn’t even look phased by it – we would be pretty nervous wearing that much borrowed jewellery! Charlize Theron, who topped many a best dressed list thanks to her Dior dress and Harry Winston jewels, came a close second with her look coming to a total of $15.9 Million, while Sandra Bullock’s Oscars look was the third most expensive, as her Alexander McQueen dress and Lorraine Schwartz jewellery came to an estimated $8.24 Million. Jennifer Lopez wears Chanel for ultra colourful InStyle US April cover

You can never go wrong with tapping Jenny from the Block for a magazine cover, so that’s exactly what InStyle US has done for its bright and cheerful April issue. Jennifer Lopez is looking like a true Hollywood babe with her striped Chanel outfit, voluminous sleek waves and fierce, bold red lipstick. Time seems to have frozen as far as Jen’s face, body and impeccable style is concerned, but believe it or not she is in her 40s. And she’s ok with that, because she thinks the media society is ok with it too… “The turning point was a couple years ago, when the September issue of women’s magazines had cover girls that were all over 40—Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Sandra Bullock, Julia Roberts, me,” she said. “It was hard not to be happy. That says something about our society.” She also told the mag that, just like most people, she doesn’t like being on her own… “Look, I don’t love being alone. I can’t beat myself up for that,” she continued. “What I have to do is figure out why I don’t like it….But where I am now, what I’ve been through, there are no rules.  There are just lots of ways it can turn out instead of just one.” Well put, Jennifer! You can read the rest of her candid interview in the InStyle US April issue which hits newsstands tomorrow, March 14th.

The Critics Choice Movie Awards 2014: The best dressed!

It was another big night for the stars of the silver screen last night, as they walked the red carpet for the 19th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards held in Santa Monica. Although it wasn’t as big an event as Sunday night’s Golden Globes, and a few of our faves were noticeably absent (where were you, Jennifer Lawrence? Sad face!) the attendees still pulled out all the stops and wowed us with their red carpet sartorial choices. Lupita Nyong’o once again stole the show for us, this time opting to wear a white Calvin Klein Collection dress for the occasion. We know we’ve been going on about her all week, but we think our obsession is justified. And it doesn’t look like we are the only ones to love her, as she picked up the Critics Choice Movie Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in 12 Years a Slave. Amy Adams is another lady we are watching with hawk eyes during this awards season, as she once again blew us away in a bold coloured frock; this time it was a gorgeous pink Roland Mouret dress! Take a look at our best dressed ladies on the red carpet and let us know who your favourite is. Ashley Madekwe is a colour block dream in Roksanda Ilincic

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes! We were so excited to see this refreshingly colourful look from Ashley Madekwe on the InStyle and Warner Brothers Golden Globes after party red carpet. Don’t get us wrong, we loved the sparkles, the mono-colour, Sofia Vergara’s ballgown and Sandra Bullock’s tri-colour dress on the main Golden Globes red carpet but we can’t help but smile when we see Ashley’s Roksanda Ilincic strapless colour block floor-length dress. And we’ve been looking at it a lot over the past 24 hours. Can you blame us? Ashley completed her look with a matching yellow Alexander McQueen clutch bag, and kept her hair slicked back and out of her face, and her make-up and accessories minimal. Easily our best-dressed after party lady!

The Golden Globes 2014: The best dressed!

Golden Globes time! Yep, it was the 71st annual Golden Globe Award ceremony in Beverly Hills yesterday, and the red carpet was once again full of the biggest and best-dressed names in Hollywood. TV and films stars alike came together for one of the biggest nights on the awards season calendar, and to say they pulled out all the sartorial stops would be a bit of an understatement, as we don’t think our list of best-dressed celebs has ever been this big! Lupita Nyong’o definitely stole the show for us with her effortlessly elegant Ralph Lauren caped look (we got flashbacks to Gwyneth Paltrow’s Tom Ford cape dress at the Oscars a few years ago) while Olivia Wilde and Camila Alves also made our jaws drop with their glittering gowns courtesy of Gucci Première and Dolce and Gabbana respectively. Unsurprisingly, Sofia Vergara went for the wow factor in a large Zac Posen dress, while Jennifer Lawrence went for a Dior dress, as was expected. The People’s Choice Awards 2014: The best dressed!

And so it begins! The People’s Choice Awards officially marks the beginning of our favourite time of the year – awards season! It’s when you start to notice who will be dominating the red carpet over the coming weeks, not to mention who will be scooping up the shiny accolades. Yep, the People’s Choice Awards is the perfect ceremony to kick off the proceedings, and as a whole, we were quite impressed with what we saw on the all-important arrivals red carpet. Sandra Bullock, the lady we will be keeping our eye on throughout awards season, didn’t let us down as she gave us a bright, bold, print-tastic look thanks to her Peter Pilotto dress. Anna Faris went in the totally opposite direction, and went for chic, subtle and understated in a beaded Naeem Khan top and trouser combo hot off the spring/summer 2014 runway. Britney Spears also went for the nude theme (nude illusion, not Miley Cyrus naked) in a gorgeous Mikael D dress, while Jennifer Hudson also championed the minimal trend in a sleek white Kaufmanfranco dress. Take a look at our highlights from the People’s Choice Awards 2014 red carpet below and let us know who gets your best dressed vote. Style Awards: 10 best dressed of 2013

The Oscars, the Grammys, and more red carpet premieres than you can shake a stick at – 2013 definitely gave us some stylish highs and lows. However we’re focusing on the former as opposed to the latter as we were always taught that “if you haven’t got anything nice to say, don’t say it at all”, and that’s what we’re sticking to. For this post, anyway! We’ve trawled through the style archives to find our ultimate best-dressed stars of 2013, and we’ve finally settled on a top 10. Yes, there were sleepless nights,  arguments, and copious amounts of coffee consumption, but we’re satisfied with our verdict. Let us know if you agree with us, and whether you think we’ve left anyone out. Or given someone a spot they don’t deserve! Jennifer Lawrence in Dior at the Oscars. The belle of the ball, the ultimate Princess living every little girl’s sartorial dream! Angelina Jolie in Saint Laurent at World War Z premiere. Angelina was all-smiles on the red carpet, and we can’t help but smile when looking at this stunning image of her! Taylor Swift in Reem Acra at Winter Whites charity gala. The perfect regal ensemble to wear to sing karaoke with Prince William and Jon Bon Jovi! Cate Blanchett in Alexander McQueen at Blue Jasmine premiere. Cate really wowed on her Blue Jasmine promo tour, but this monochrome creation was our utter favourite. Simply magical! Sandra Bullock in J Mendel at the Venice Film Festival. The ladies in red! Sandra was sexy, smouldering, sharp… and did we already say sexy? Michelle Obama in Jason Wu at the Inauguration Ball. Michelle Obama made Jason Wu’s day year life by once again choosing him to design her gown for the historical event! Rihanna in Azzedine Alaia at the Grammy Awards. Red […]

The 85th Academy Awards (Oscars 2013): The best dressed!

It’s finally here! The biggest night in Hollywood (and the first date we earmark in our calendars and diaries every year without fail) is finally here! Ladies and gentlemen, the 85th Academy Awards, aka The Oscars, are happening right now and we couldn’t be more excited! We’ve been live tweeting all the red carpet arrivals for the past few hours – a big thank you to each and every one of you who joined the conversation and made it a memorable night – so now it’s time to sit back and reflect on some of our favourite looks of the night with the main ceremony taking place on our televisions in the background. Talk about multi-tasking! There were a few ladies in particular whose red carpet looks we were waiting with baited breath to see, and thankfully not a single one of them disappointed us with their sartorial decisions. Nominees Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway looked breathtaking in their respective Dior Haute Couture, Armani Prive and Prada dresses, each going for different but equally stunning looks. We heard on the grapevine that Anne Hathaway was due to wear Valentino but changed her mind a matter of hours before stepping onto the carpet. Although we think she looked incredible in her Prada dress, we can’t help but wonder what Valentino had in store for her! We think the “go big or go home” mantra applies to the Oscars more than any other award ceremony of the year, which is why we applaud the ladies who really take it seriously. A Dior-clad Jennifer Lawrence looked like a true Princess, which is certainly one way of interpreting the dress code, while Jessica Chastain, Naomi Watts, Amanda Seyfried, Catherine Zeta Jones and Adele were just some of the ladies who went for the sparkle […]

Oscars 2011: the trends – red

Oscars 2011: Best Dressed

Last night’s 2011 Oscar Awards at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles saw a whole host of acting starlets take to the red carpet like a flock of perfectly groomed doves. And although there was plenty to celebrate on the award front (yes, Colin Firth, we’re talking about you) the dresses took us to a new level of excitement indeed. From simple to statement and daring to dramatic, here’s our top 10 pick of the best dressed celebs on last night’s red rug. Get your green eyed monster at the ready. Cate Blanchett Cate Blanchett pushed the proverbial boat out in this blush beaded floor length Givenchy Couture gown from the label’s spring 2011 collection. Flattering her frame to utter perfection, the cut and detail (especially the unexpected flash of yellow beads) shoot her straight to the top of our best dressed list. Gwyneth Paltrow Gwyneth Paltrow wowed onlookers in this glittering custom-made Calvin Klein Collection gown. The minimalist form-fitting shape and futuristic metallic design made way for an absolute red carpet winner. Michelle Williams Michelle Williams dazzled on last night’s red carpet in a beautifully beaded white Chanel Couture gown. With cap sleeves, simple figure-hugging shape and her platinum blonde hair, the actress looked effortlessly beautiful. Mila Kunis Style star of the moment Mila Kunis turned up to last night’s award ceremony in a stunning crushed lilac Elie Saab SS11 Haute Couture gown – the soft feminine shape and seductive lace inserts gave Mila that ultimate understated sex appeal. Halle Berry The ever-beautiful Halle Berry looked picture perfect in this romantic nude Marchesa number. The fitted basque, all-over embellishment and mermaid tail design all added up to a truly jaw-dropping outfit on the night. Zac Posen Resort 2011

My is Zac Posen petite in person! The slender designer was all smiles as he greeted guests at his 2011 Resort Show, sharply dressed in a tailored-to-perfection navy suit and purple shirt. The show was held in Posen’s Tribeca showroom and the atmosphere was fittingly about as resort-like as it could feel on a rainy, gloomy New York City afternoon. A corner palm tree, white washed brick walls, creaky shabby-chic wooden floors, cream cushioned gold chairs, white flowers, and deliciously scented Diptyque burning candles perfectly complemented the looks that made their way down an ivory runway. Posen explained that when designing his looks he wanted to give his “woman attitude without being aggressive.” The designer continued by remarking that the collection is meant to reflect the point “where the Forties meets the Seventies,” adding that achieving an overall soft feel was key. Posen’s inspiration came through loud in clear in his use of texture, transparency, embellishment, and via his colour and fabric choices. The collection’s embellishments included couture-like bead-work, feathers, and furs, all of which adorned delicate tulle, crepe, organza silk, and tweed, making for dressy day, cocktail, and evening looks. There was a lusciously alluring femininity to the collection that tied into Posen’s inspiration notably in the designer’s use of sheer fabrics. A number of the full-length looks in fact looked almost negligé-like (though perhaps Posen’s clients will opt to wear the sheer pieces as bathing suit cover-ups when on their yachts in St-Tropez rather than as risqué evening gowns). One look in particular was completely sheer, with nothing but feathers adorning the light chiffon fabric covering the model’s body. Also of note were intricate back and chest details and cut-outs – two of fashion’s latest androgynous zones (think Sandra Bullock’s dress at the MTV Movie Awards last week). […]

Oscars 2010: the dresses

Last night’s 82nd Academy Awards were full of memorable moments. Not only did The Hurt Locker pip the box-office smash Avatar to the post on more than one occasion, but Neil Patrick Harris (a.k.a. Doogie Howser) opened the event with a camp and surreal musical display of sequins and feathers and Ben Stiller dressed up as a Na’vi. Yep, he had the tail and everything. But before the ceremony began, we took a look at the red carpet to have a nosey at the stars to see what they were saying about their films… and more importantly, who dressed them. Here’s a few of the lovely ladies and the gowns they chose for 2010’s Oscars. Elizabeth Banks – Versace One of the best dressed of the night was Elizabeth banks who had previously hosted Oscar’s Scientific and Technical Awards the night before. Dressed in a risky grey Versace gown, Banks opted for a thin hairband with her up ‘do and peach-coloured eye shadow. Sandra Bullock – Marchesa Best Actress winner, Sandra Bullock looked every inch the Hollywood star in this glamourous number from Marchesa. It’s a bit too metallic for our liking but the hair and makeup round off the classic look perfectly. Carey Mulligan – Prada Brit newcomer Carey Mulligan has had some great red carpet moments recently and this one might just be her best yet. The black number from Prada features a flattering sweetheart neckline with a box pleat skirt that could have so easily ended in disaster. We couldn’t see closely enough but apparently, the dress is embellished with Swarovski flowers and knife, fork and scissor charms! Amanda Seyfried – Armani Prive We can’t help but think this Armani Prive drowned Amanda Seyfried. It also probably didn’t help that J Lo was wearing a fairly similar […]
