5 fun things to do in London this Valentines Day

You thought Paris was the most romantic city in the world, but London isn’t too bad for the ole romance, either. Believe it or not, hustle and bustle, angry commuters and horrific weather aside, there are far worse places to be than our fine Capital on Friday February 14th, and to prove it to you we’ve come up with five fab ways to spend Valentine’s Day in the city. 1. Lady Mary and her Downton Abbey pals have made afternoon tea seem like a simply spiffing way to spend a day, so why should Valentine’s Day be any different? Afternoon tea at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower from 3pm to 6pm costs from just £40 – not that you can put a price on love, of course! 2. Strolling hand in hand at the London Tower Bridge Exhibition sounds like a great way to kick off Valentine’s Day, if you ask us. Entry is just £8 per adult, which is a pretty reasonable price to pay to enjoy stunning views of London from the high walkways. 3. You know your man is a keeper if he agrees to take you shopping at Westfield Stratford or Westfield White City. We know that men tend to get a little bored (and that’s putting it nicely) while accompanying you to the shops, bless them, so you have to give him brownie points for offering to take you. Extra points if he already bought you a gift and is offering to buy you whatever your heart desires as you peruse the shops, too. 4. Inject a little bit of culture into your day and relationship as a whole by visiting the Tate Modern. Enriching your minds and absorbing all that knowledge and culture is a great way to spend the day; oh and did we […]

10 Valentine’s Day Ideas For A Special Day With Your Loved One

Valentine’s Day is a day to express love with your special someone. Whether you prefer to celebrate with an extravagant dinner out, a creative gift, or something more relaxed like a night in, there are plenty of ways to make this romantic holiday special. Check out our top 10 unique ideas for celebrating Valentine’s Day! You could book tickets for a comedy show, see a movie at the theatre or even rent an escape room together. For something less traditional, think about visiting an art gallery or museum — it’s also an ideal chance to bond over shared interests. It doesn’t have to be an extravagant item like jewellery or costly electronics; a small token of affection could say a thousand words. Instead, think about something like flowers, luxury chocolate truffles, perfume or something homemade that will mean even more because it’s thoughtful. Cook A Special Meal For couples who prefer spending time at home, why not take the opportunity to cook a delicious meal together? If you’re feeling adventurous and want to get creative in the kitchen, search for some recipes online or try something new. You could even pick up some ingredients for your favourite dishes and make them yourself! Enjoy Some Quality Time Spending quality time together is just as important, if not more so, than exchanging gifts on Valentine’s Day. Choose a few of your partner’s favourite activities and enjoy them together. Plan something completely new — like going ice skating or […]

Trendy Romeo: Dressing for Valentine’s Day

Love is in the air, or so it seems every February 14th when Valentine’s Day rolls around. From fully booked restaurants to romantic breaks away, couples everywhere will be out in force enjoying dates to celebrate their love. While some couples are happy to kick their pyjama-clad feet up in front of the TV, others like to celebrate the day with an extravagant date. Regardless of how you feel about Valentine’s Day, if you’ve agreed to a date with your special someone, you should take some time to dress for the occasion – as they’ll most likely be doing the same! Suits or Shirt – Accept Nothing Less Nothing says maturity like a smart suit. However, you’re in danger of being overly formal unless your date is in an ultra-swanky restaurant. Full suits also put you in danger of giving off a job interview vibe. Instead, pairing a suit jacket and shirt with slim-fit dark jeans is a good way to get the best of both worlds.  Alternatively, if you want to keep things fancy, a waistcoat is a true gentlemen’s touch – but remember to dress for the venue. You can experiment with bolder, more fashion-forward designs such as houndstooth, dogtooth and check suit jackets. You’ll turn her head, but if they’re not into more exuberant menswear you may miss the mark. Of course, you don’t need a full suit. A pair of trousers and a smart shirt are also a good option for a more formal date. In a more informal setting, a check shirt and dark jeans will do the job. Whatever style you opt for, you’ll need something well-fitting. Make sure the buttons don’t strain when you raise your arms up – especially if you’re going to be leaning in for a Valentine’s Day kiss. Smart […]

Editor’s diary: what I’m wearing day 1

Afternoon, folks! So the first day of London Fashion Week is in full swing, as if my aching feet don’t know it. Here’s what I’m wearing today – a Sixties shift dress from ASOS, nude opaques, cork platforms from Office and my trusty Barbour jacket. Oh, and I’m also showing off my new Daisy Jewellery Chakra bracelet for the first time – apparently it’ll let creativity flow through me. And, of course, I’ve got a spare pair of flats in my bag (London’s cobbles are nothing if not tiresome and treacherous). Popped backstage at Maria Grachvogel this morning before watching her amazing salon show (more on that later) and have just been backstage at Sass & Bide to film some hair and makeup vids. Must dash, Felder Felder’s next, followed by Bora Aksu and PPQ later. Stay tuned for the first round of reviews… Follow us on Twitter for on-the-go updates.
