Sex And The City’s Mr Big Nearly Played By Alec Baldwin

We’ve come to know and love actor Chris Noth as the charming Mr Big in wildly successful Sex and the City. But, that place in our hearts could so easily have been replaced by Alec Baldwin. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the show’s creator Darren Star revealed that he had originally preferred Hollywood star Alec Baldwin for the role. “I was thinking of Alec Baldwin for Big initially [in Sex and the City]. I don’t really watch Law & Order, but I met with Chris Noth and thought he was perfect. I remember the first table read, how good he was. I’m not saying that Chris was Mr. Big, but he brought a lot of his own persona to the role….” Loveable furniture designer Aidan was also initially not intended for actor John Corbett instead Aidan Quinn who starred alongside Brad Pitt in the movie Legends Of The Fall was the first choice for the part. “We initially were thinking about Aidan Quinn for Aidan, but I think he wasn’t available. I loved John Corbett inNorthern Exposure, and we were like, ‘Well, what’s John Corbett been up to?’ He just had the laconic, dudish vibe. But we kept ‘Aidan’ because we loved the name.” Alec Baldwin as Big, Aidan Quinn as Aidan….oh it could all have been so different, including the final episode Star had anything to do with. Taking a back seat for the last few seasons, he admitted not being too happy with the finale in which our favourite leading ladies settled down and found happiness, talking to Deadline magazine Star said, “I think the show ultimately betrayed what it was about, which was that women don’t ultimately find happiness from marriage”. With the possibility of a third movie in the works (fingers crossed), it’ll be interesting to see what the ladies […]

Carrie Bradshaw’s iconic Sex and the City tutu only cost $5, nearly didn’t get used

Carrie Bradshaw may have an enviable designer wardrobe, but it turns out that she didn’t always have such expensive taste. It’s been revealed that the iconic tutu from the opening credits of Sex and the City (and inarguably the most famous piece of clothing from the show and two movies combined) was actually a $5 bargain find. And according to costume creator Patricia Field, it very nearly didn’t get used as producer Darren Star wasn’t too keen on it. “I was in a showroom and there was a bucket on the floor, for like, $5 each or something, and I pull out this tulle skirt, and I’m like, ‘I don’t know, let’s just take this. We’ll see,’” said Patricia. “So when I showed it to Sarah Jessica, she loved it. And I said, ‘Okay, so we’ll put it with a little T-shirt,’ and she loved it. She felt it.  And then we had to convince Darren. He didn’t get it. I don’t blame him – it’s not his thing. And we were coming to him with something strange, in his mind. So we had to convince him.’” Obviously the ladies’ powers of persuasion worked a treat – and we are eternally grateful. Let this be a lesson to all you bargain bucket snobs: you never know what gems you might find in there so roll up your sleeves and get stuck in! [Daily Mail] [Image]

Sex and the City 2: Get Miranda’s look

Last but not least in our SATC style series is Miranda – the no-nonsense woman who likes her wardrobe to be as fuss-free as her men. Simple chic pieces are on the cards for this go-getter, but that doesn’t mean boring, oh no – Miranda likes to bring a bit of brightness to the boardroom. Let’s see how you can do the same… You’re a Miranda if: you like your fashion to be fuss-free, your wardrobe’s full of easy-to-wear draped jersey pieces, and simple chic staples in various colour splashes help you through the day. Miranda’s regal mustard drape dress almost had us reaching for the dye bottle (that hair/dress colour combo is gorgeous), but instead we’ve picked something less permanent and equally stylish – this Bottega Veneta silk-jersey dress (available at theOutnet.com, £377.50) is the exact dress worn by Miranda in the movie. Replace the brown belt for something a little more slick – we like this three-row tan belt from Butterfly by Matthew Williamson (available at Debenhams) – and complete with Carvela’s white concealed platform skyscrapers (available at Debenhams, £130) for the ultimate effortless elegance a la Ms. Hobbes. Sex and the City 2: Get Samantha’s look!

Oh, Samantha – sexy, sleek, seductive Samantha – there are several levels on which we’re rather jealous of Ms. Jones, and man-eating powers aside, it’s her unashamedly risque sartorial choices that get us in the end. Take a look at how to transform into the femme fatale (please note: we take no responsibility for the endless wolf-whistles and men falling at your feet hereafter)… You’re a Samantha if: you’re a sexy singleton who loves nothing more than flaunting her figure in a super-fitted mini dress and eating men for breakfast. We’re picking our favourite Samantha dress from the new film – a super sexy and rather raunchy little black dress with crucially-placed cut-out detail – and we’ve found the perfect match at my-wardrobe.com with this exposed brassier corset dress by Sportmax, £580. Slip into a white mid-heel sling-back from Carvela (available at Debenhams, £55), and throw on a pair of classic black Ray-Ban wayfarer’s (available at Net-a-Porter.com, £140) to rival our sexy screen siren – you’re ready to go hunting. Sex and the City 2: Get Charlotte’s look!

Next up in our MFL does SATC 2 – we do love a good acronym – is Charlotte, our faithful prim and proper friend. She may not be as edgy, but boy does she know how to work a structured shift dress, or a tailored two-piece for that matter. Follow our steps to channel your inner Charlotte… You’re a Charlotte if: you’re a hopeless romantic who loves a good ruffle, your fashion falls under flirty but feminine and above all, you’re always perfectly polished. We love Charlotte’s pretty-in-pink Coco-inspired two piece and, after much scouring, we’ve met its match. Matthew Williamson’s twill bubble skirt, £350, and matching fitted twill blazer, £595 (both available at Net-a-Porter.com), are a perfect parallel to Charlotte’s prim pieces in the movie and look super-sweet paired with these white peep-toe heels by Miss KG (available at Debenhams, £60). Complete the look by carrying a pink birkin-style bag from Star by Julien Macdonald (available at Debenhams, £40), and you’ve conquered your classic feminine feat – the optimist in you (and Charlotte) would be proud. So without further ado, let’s get the ball rolling with the leader of the pack: Carrie. You’re a Carrie if: you’re super stylish, endlessly eclectic and forever fearless when it comes to fashion. The ultimate Sex and the City shoe

I don’t know about you, but Carrie Bradshaw does tend to annoy me somewhat. Every sentence born out of her keyboard seems to begin with: ‘I couldn’t help but wonder’ or ‘I got to thinking’; she loves the melodrama a little too much, and she chose Big over Aiden! What was that about? I know, I know, it’s not the real world – I should really get a hold of myself. But the fact of the matter is, I think I’m using these petty arguments to conceal my true annoyance – Miss Bradshaw’s shoe collection. Correction: one pair of shoes in particular – the “Something Blue” satin pumps from none other, than Manolo Blahnik. Not only does Carrie own these shoes, but she is proposed to with them (I’m sorry to any of you that haven’t yet seen the film… where have you been?). In all fairness, in the moment I would probably prefer a ring, but these on the side would do just fine. Actually, it wasn’t until I saw these shoes in person last weekend at a party, that I realised how striking they really are. The entire room paused (well every female did anyway) to stare in awe as the girl glided in, and I for one could not tear my eyes away. If possible, I even felt a little starstruck. Sad isn’t it? These babies are available at Neiman Marcus for a cool $945. While I was admiring the shoes, I noticed the woman wearing them also had small kink toys attached to her purse. It seemed like an odd accessory, but I guess everyone has their own style. The contrast between the elegant pumps and edgy toy was amusing to me. But hey, you do you! The shoes really are stunning works of art. I […]

Anyone else feel incredibly unfulfilled after watching the Sex and the City film trailer?

Maybe its because we’ve seen most of the outfits already….or maybe its because we were dying for some dialogue between the ladies, but something was seriously lacking! Sex and the City: The Movie

Oh say it isn’t so! According to Grazia one of our favourite ladies will be laid to rest in the new movie, subsequently killing off the foursome that we’ve grown to know and love. Ahhh! Well I suppose we can console ourselves with the knowledge that Charlotte finally gets pregnant and Big is still looking as handsome as ever! Fashion addicts can swoon over some of the outfits here. Its great to see that stylist, Patricia Field has ensured that the ladies retain their original style whilst keeping it fresh by incorporating some of the latest trends. Charlotte is still polished and pretty, Carrie as always is ten steps ahead with her quirky ways, Miranda is unashamedly bold (I love her look in the picture after the jump. She looks stunning!) and Samantha is very much the power player.

Sex and the City film in the pipeline

Strap on your Manolos and ready yourself with a strong cosmopolitan: The news we’ve been waiting to hear is finally out. Yes, you guessed it, Sex and The City, the movie, is finally in the pipeline. For anyone who religiously followed the musings of Carrie Bradshaw, worshipped the style god that is Patricia Field, and for all the legions of fans left desolate when the hit series ended in 2004, our prayers have finally been answered, as we hear that actor Mario Cantone (a.k.a. bitchy queen Anthony Marantino) has leaked information that a script is being written by veteran scriptwriter, director and producer of the TV series, Michael Patrick King, Metro.co.uk quotes Catone as saying “I know the script is being written and I know it will be brilliant because Michael Patrick King is writing it. I know that I’m in it – I have a nice part in it, I’m told. If it happens, we should film it in the early fall I think.

Three Classic and Timeless Jewellery Essentials to Add to Your Wishlist

Whilst jewellery trends come and go, classic and timeless pieces will never be out of fashion. The jewellery you wear can quickly become a reflection of your personality and an intricate part of your personal style. After all, when we watch Sex and the City, we know Carrie wouldn’t be Carrie without her Carrie necklace, and Paul Mescals’s simple chain in Normal People became more famous than he did, causing a generation of men to start wearing jewellery again. So, what is your jewellery style? And what does the jewellery you wear say about you? To help you find the perfect everyday pieces for you, here are three classic and timeless jewellery essentials to add to your wishlist: Simple Chains, Layered The layered necklace trend has been around for years, but its popularity shows no sign of waning. What we love about this trend is that it’s so easy to adapt to suit any situation. If you’re after a subtle look or want to be understated for a formal occasion then you can wear just one or two chains or if you want to make a big impact or create a high-fashion look then you could layer a dozen. We love the chains available from Oak and Luna Fashion Jewellery, which were made to be layered. Each piece is elevated with small charms, gemstones, or initials, allowing you to layer them together and create a look that is truly unique to you. Classic Name Necklaces One piece of jewellery that you can invest in now and that you’ll never regret buying is the classic name necklace. The name necklace, featuring a nameplate written in simple script, was first made famous by Carrie Bradshaw in the original six series of Sex and the City. Now that the reboot has arrived and […]

1990’s Fashion: Sports and Heroin Chic

Heroin chic is a trend in fashion that is based on sickness, dark circles under the eyes, exhaustion, and other signs of drug use. It originated in the early ‘90s and mainly in the United States, when heroin use became popular in wide circles, due to the decline in its market value. At the same time, most people did not know how to get into rehab without insurance (https://addictionresource.com/drug-rehab/no-insurance/ would have definitely helped them), that is why the rates of deaths from drugs were pretty high. In the ’90s, it wasn’t about body awareness and healthy habits — half of all Americans smoked on a regular basis, the opioid epidemic was at its peak, nobody would go get treatment at rehab by choice.  At this time, a huge number of films on this topic appeared. You definitely watched or heard of such movies as Trainspotting, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Basketball Diaries, and Pulp Fiction, which have become iconic.  So, let’s figure out why after the ‘80s, when Princess Diana and Brooke Shields were style icons, everything changed dramatically and the trend was a slender physique and unkempt. How heroin chic appeared It all started with British photographer Corinne Day, or rather with her photo shooting with Kate Moss called The 3rd Summer of Love. It is important to understand that these photographs glorified the future photo model, giving a powerful impetus to the development of her career.  At that time, Kate was only 15 years old, but that did not stop Day from filming her half-naked with a cigarette in her hands. These photos instantly spread throughout the fashion community, appearing on the covers of many glossy magazines, including The Face. At this time, for the first time, the term Heroin Chic began to be used, which […]

Jessica Alba is electric in Zac Posen for ‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill For’ premiere

William Grant & Sons launch new Three Barrels Honey brandy

Cosmos and sex on the beach cocktails are two of the most traditional stylish drinks to be sipping while on a night out with the girls (you only need to watch half an episode of Sex and the City to know this!) but don’t be surprised if they slowly but surely start being replaced with something a little stronger. A nice glass of brandy, perhaps… In a bid to cater to customers with a bit of a sweet tooth, William Grant & Sons have recently launched the Three Barrels Honey brandy – a brandy which the company boasts is the sweetest one yet. And given that William Grant & Sons has been a booming family business for over five generations, it’s safe to say that they know a thing or two about the nation’s favourite tipples. It isn’t just brandy that William Grant & Sons have excelled at, as they also produce some of the finest single malt scotch whiskey, gin, and spiced rum among other things. Still, it’s the brandy that has got our taste buds tingling this morning thanks to the smooth honey that promises to effortlessly glide down your throat (it’s Friday – we’re allowed!) and we are determined to make the rest of the nation agree with us. And proof that brandy isn’t just for older generations, the bottle has been given a very stylish make-over, complete with a premium gold and orange honey comb exterior. Paris Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Anthony Vaccarello, Corrie Nielsen and Tex Saverio

Anna Wintour was in a bit of a rush to leave Milan for Paris (she even missed the Giorgio Armani show!), but was the first day of Paris Fashion Week worth leaving the Italian city early for? Well, we don’t know about that, but the designers that showcased their autumn/winter 2014 collections in the French capital certainly wowed the crowd. ANTHONY VACCARELLO AW14 Anthony Vaccarello (Nicole Richie and Jennifer Lopez are huge fans – and it’s not hard to see why!) made sure the first day of the fash pack’s last stop in Paris was a memorable one, with fierce red and black looks dominating the catwalk. Minimal and wearable daytime ensembles were juxtaposed with short and tight evening pieces (J-Lo will no doubt be all over the new-season pieces) with chains and metal finding their way on the garments in a sleek, slinky and sinfully sexy way – a signature Anthony Vaccarello collection with bags of attitude! We particularly loved the attention he paid to the collar – he attached it to pretty much everything, and everyone! TEX SAVERIO AW14 We expected big things from the Tex Saverio autumn/winter 2014 collection; the Indonesian designer has been on our radar ever since it was announced that he was the creative brains behind Katniss Everdeen’s Hunger Games wedding dress, and we certainly weren’t disappointed with what we saw in Paris. A black, gold and silver colour palette dominated the new collection, as did pieces that came in big shapes and sizes. It was all about volume, something which was very apparent in the large and in charge skirts and a gorgeous laser cut cape in a deep shade of red that we have a feeling will be making its red carpet debut in the next few months. CORRIE NIELSEN AW14 Corrie […]

Rosamund Pike is sleek and sexy in Marios Schwab

Do you love the power, simplicity and chicness of a black dress but want to mix it up a bit at the same time? Look no further than Rosamund Pike’s latest look for a prime example of how you can get the best of both worlds. The actress showcased the ultimate LBD with a difference while attending the premiere of The World’s End at the ArcLight Cinemas Cinerama Dome in Hollywood yesterday. Rosamund opted to wear a stunning black dress from the Marios Schwab Resort 2014 collection, getting that chic yet sexy balance just right. Had a celeb with longer hair worn the dress, we would have expected a fierce high ponytail, but Rosamund’s cute crop didn’t take any attention away from the intricate detail of the dress. We love how she kept the rest of her look simple by opting for minimal accessories and barely there make-up. Another red (well, technically blue) carpet win!

Valentino Snakeskin Rockstud Handbag: Yay or Nay?

The final word in luxury, no one does uber-glam quite like Valentino. Accented with an understated sexiness, we love how the brand has perfected the tough-luxe mix, and keeps up coming back more! Having cooed over the PVC Rockstud Shoulder Bag, another equally desirable version has just landed on our bag radar! Enter the Snakeskin Rockstud Bag; a spacious and office-appropriate offering from one of the most popular Valentino collections. Crafted from luxe snake leather, the Snakeskin Rockstud bag boasts a handy detachable and adjustable shoulder strap, gold-toned hardware and numerous zippered pockets for maximum carrying capacity, not forgetting the overspill of arm candy hotness! The signature rockstud adornment and tortoiseshell exterior instantly afford this bag must-have status, but before giving into temptation, consider the reason’s we’re saying Yay and Nay to snapping up the Snakeskin Rockstud bag. Yay Luxe factor: The snakeskin exterior elevates the Rockstud bag to uber-luxe status, and if that’s what you’re looking for when splashing out on a handbag, then it is the ideal option. Versatile: The detachable shoulder strap makes the Snakeskin Rockstud Bag ideal for slinging over your shoulder on a day trekking around the city, and smart enough for the office, thanks to the structured double top handles. Spacious: With a zippered back wall pocket and front wall slot pockets, it’s safe to say you won’t be running out of space to fit the essentials! Nay Price: At a whopping £2,380, expect to be bankrupt, or at least financially crippled for a year. Ouch. Trend-centric: As much as we love a dash of animal print in our wardrobes, splashing the cash on such a statement option could prove problematic – especially if you’re a classic handbag hopper, and tire of your latest arm candy easily. Colour: The tobacco-black turtle colourway, although flattering, isn’t […]

Sarah Jessica Parker looking lovely and lady-like in lavender

Is this one of Sarah Jessica Parker’s most stylish weeks of the year so far? After blowing us away with her Giles Deacon dress and Philip Treacy Mohawk headpiece at the Met Gala on Monday evening, and rocking up to last night’s Tate Americas Foundation Artists Dinner wearing the above number, we think it may very well be! SJP may have gone for punky and edgy on Monday night (it was the theme after all) but she did a whole 180 by opting for something soft, pure and ultra feminine for last night’s dinner instead. There’s always a danger of over and even under accessorising when it comes to full-length dresses with such a prominent print, but the former Sex and the City star got the balance juuust right! The matching bangles added a lovely touch of symmetry to the look, and the rings on her fingers and dazzling earring provided all the bling that was necessary. We know SJP doesn’t see herself as a fashion/style icon, but we can’t say we agree with her…

Tom Ford gives us sexy simplicity in SS13 ad campaign

Tom Ford is really going for it this year! The designer has been prone to keeping things on the down low in the past, but the fact that he is shunning his traditional small-scale presentations and going for an epic catwalk show at London Fashion Week next month shows that he is kicking thing up a gear. New year, new start! The aforementioned new start is already reflected in the newest set of ad campaigns for the Tom Ford spring/summer 2013 collection. Even though the traditional Tom Ford simplicity is still very much apparent in the ads starring Karlina Kate, Caune and Simon Van Meerven, you can see a hint of that added wow factor starting to creep in. And we don’t just mean those crazy cool gold bondage-inspired shoes, either. (Anne Hathaway wore the black ones to the Les Miserables New York premiere, just in case you’re scratching your heads wondering where you’ve seen them before!) We’re betting there’s going to be a stark contrast in the autumn/winter 2013 ad campaign images when they eventually come out, but we hope the traditional Tom Ford aesthetic doesn’t get lost in all the new changes. We love these images; do you?

Courteney Cox loves Roland Mouret!

If you spotted Courteney Cox during her New York city Scream 4 promotions last week year, chances are you’ll have spied her fave designer. Wearing Roland Mouret twice in one day – we know – Courteney showed her fashion flair in two looks from every woman’s dream dressmaker, and boy did she work it. For her appearance on Good Morning America, the actress chose Mouret’s Covielle top tunic dress in alabaster, which she tucked into his Glawari skirt in light khaki and teamed with a coral leather jacket and tan platforms. A few hours later, she’d changed into the black Helena dress for her appearance on the Late Show With David Letterman, where she rocked a subtle but seriously sexy style. All in a day’s work, eh? Naturally she looked pretty damn hot on both occasions, but if we’re going to choose, that form-fitting Helena dress with its scultped neckline is to die for. Which is your favourite Roland Mouret look? Cast your vote in the poll below! [poll id=”91″]

The Royalty of fashion paid their last respects to the late designer Alexander McQueen in an eye catching parade of his designs and creations. And standing out from the crowd in this moving ceremony held at St Paul’s Cathedral in London, was Sex and the City beauty Sarah Jessica Parker. Causing a stir the actress opted for a cream layered dress. She paired her frock with a stunning black frocked coat from McQueen’s preview: Spring/Summer 2011 Collection. Parker chose a pair of fitting buckled up stilletos and a statement clutch bag from McQueens’s very last collection. Looking beautiful as ever SJP topped off her look with her hair scraped back into a high bun and a white flower to top finish it off. We think Sarah Jessica Parker did Alexander McQueen very proud. This really was the perfect tribute to a very talented man.

Round the table with Henry Holland and Gemma Cairney

As you well know, here at MFL we’re rather partial to a fashion TV series or two, and none more so than Frock Me with TK Maxx, back on TV screens in the UK for a second series to brighten up the bleakest Sunday mornings. Hosted by super-style icon Alexa Chung, London designer Henry Holland and Radio 1 style expert Gemma Cairney, Frock Me follows fashion through its rampant relationship with music as it highlights top trends for the season, chats to the very best in the business, gives DIY styling tips, and shows you how people on the street are working – and styling – the season’s best trends… in a nutshell. Naturally, we were obliged to catch up with Henry and Gemma when TK Maxx invited us to London’s Zetter hotel last week where, alongside a few other bloggers, we quizzed the pair on all things Frock Me and fashion. We’ve seen three shows so far, can you tell us what we can expect from the rest of the series? HH: There’s a show about romance, there’s a show about Americana, there’s a show about festivals; so there’s those theme-shows, and you can expect to see Sophie Ellis-Bextor, you can expect to see Gabriella Cilmi, we’ve had the Future Heads, Marina and the Diamonds, Paloma Faith – she was good, and everyone did live too. And then there’s some very ridiculous sketches… GC: We’ve got prints in Bristol [just aired] which was fun, I actually put a couple up against each other for the Frock Off, and the girl really looks like Alexa so that was good. And then we’ve got in Birmingham Americana – we ended up with about 200 people surrounding us in the middle of town for the final section, so we were kind of […]

Top Stories this week: Kate Moss, Lacroix and more!

Kate Moss become ballet star Kate Moss is set to be swapping her ballet pumps for…ballet pumps as it’s revealed that Ms Moss has signed a deal to star in a new ballet alongside one of the world’s greatest dancers , Sex and the City actor , Mikhail Baryshnikov. The pair will duet in a short film that will be shown as part of a fundraising event, and also at a private New York gallery. We imagine it will be a little different from her previous pole dancing performance. Christian Lacroix on the up After filing for bankruptcy last year we thought it could all be over for legendary label Christain Lacroix. But it seems that Lacroix himself will be cutting all ties with the company following its plans for the future. Nicolas Topiol, Lacroix’s CEO, announced that he’ll be teaming up with several other labels to launch four new product categories , though sadly, couture and ready-to-wear won’t be making a comeback. Moises de la Renta for Mango Design talent obviously runs in the family as Oscar de la Renta’s son, Moises , who is also a designer , will be launching an exclusive t-shirt collection for Mango this month. The twenty-five year old is said to fuse his father’s timeless aesthetic with his own youthful rock and roll edge , we look forward to seeing the results! Naomi won’t face charges Despite allegations that she attacked her driver last week it appears that Naomi won’t face charges after all. The chauffeur claimed the supermodel hit him from the back seat of the car after becoming annoyed, and then fled the vehicle when he alerted a traffic warden to call the police. But the authorities have since confirmed they won’t be pursuing Ms. Campbell any further as the driver […]

Interview with Shoe Designer of the Year Rupert Sanderson

As a fellow blogger, we at MFL were delighted that ELLE’s Accessory Designer of the Year Rupert Sanderson took time out of his hectic schedule to talk to us (between designing shoes for Karl Lagerfeld and blogging for Vogue no less). The London-based shoe designer and chairperson of Fashion Fringe Shoes 2008 has been crazy about footwear since his early teens and after studying shoe design at the world-renowned Cordwainers College, honed his skills working with Sergio Rossi and Bruno Magli in Italy. Rupert has since taken his brand on a journey and en route has gathered a dedicated following, enlisting celebrity disciples such as Kate Moss, not to mention two stores in London and a portfolio of high profile stockists around the world. Every style savvy girl knows to head straight to Rupert Sanderson for gorgeous shoes that blend traditional Italian craftsmanship with cool, individual style. And a fact you may not have known: To compliment his obsessive passion with the Italian craft of shoe-making, every pair of Rupert Sanderson shoes is named after a Daffodil. How very British… Who is the Rupert Sanderson woman? Confident and clever, she is someone who has the confidence to shop outside the usual brand because in her daily life she makes decisions based on her own independence of mind. A woman of some substance who relishes the sex appeal of a great shoe.

Sex, shirts and sweat: It’s a man’s world at Monsieur Baron

There could hardly be a time more topical to launch a business shirt range. Workers across the square mile donned jeans and jumpers last week for fear of being targeted by G20 protesters. The normally, more-often-than-not very dull topic of business attire, unexpectedly found itself in the spot light. So the celebration a week earlier, of designer business shirt brand Monsieur Baron’s first birthday and lavish launch of the new range at celeb hangout, Kitts in Sloane Square, could hardly have provided more of a contrast. Especially in light of the close city links of the designers behind the brand. If you haven’t heard of them before, then let me fill you in. Monsieur Baron had been manufacturing shirts for fashion houses including Armani, Gucci, Alain Figaret, Eden Park and Cerruti for 25 years before setting up a label in his own name with son Charles Baron, a convertible bonds trader in Canary Wharf and son-in-law Tristan Lagesse, who formerly worked in reinsurance for Lloyd’s.

SJP recreates Diana Vreeland for Harper’s Bazaar

Sarah Jessica Parker is a true woman’s woman. Men don’t get her, women can’t be without her. And in the March issue of Harper’s Bazaar she chats about Vreeland, Gossip Girl and of course Carrie Bradshaw. In a shoot inspired by the late, great editor of Harper’s Bazaar Diana Vreeland, SJP keeps true to her signature style of sleek with a hint of quirky. Shot by Peter Lindbergh, we see SJP in a range of DV poses, wearing at one point an LBD but certainly with no VPL. Ok, enough with the acronyms. Wearing gorgeous pieces from the likes of Salvatore Ferragamo and Yves Saint Laurent, Sarah-Jessica looks every inch the glamorous editor. It is a surprising shoot when compared with the cover, the shoot has a moody flamboyance whereas the cover is eye-catching with springtime pinks. The interview reminds us why we love Sarah-Jessica so much, her positivity and fabulous outlook shines through all of her comments. When asked about how Carrie Bradshaw would handle the recession, she replied: “She would probably end up in a hospital. Perhaps she would go back to her ’80s stuff and start bringing it out again.” Is anyone else thinking that there might be another series in that? ‘Carrie Faces The Crunch’ wouldn’t you just love to see her customizing her Manolo’s and rooting for vintage Chanel? But maybe we should just let SJP rest from the limelight of her alter ego for a while. In response to whether the Sex And The City bus tours affect her everyday life she said: “Ah, yes, I run into it. There are times when it’s totally terrific, and there are times when I’m like, Oh, God, I’d better run in the other direction. Especially when I’m with my son.” Although, probably my favorite part of […]

Steve Madden’s Bijoux Sandal: Fringe anyone?

After Sex and the City, or SATC some may say, debuted in theaters every female, and maybe some males, have tried to match the styles of the four main characters. Whether it’s preppy Charlotte or high fashion Carrie, fans flocked to any and all venues that told them how to mirror the ensembles of the starring four fictitious characters. For me, however, the film has given me the reverse reaction.
