Critics seem to be split on the new material from Beyonce. But then the concept album ‘I am … Sasha Fierce’, is a pretty bold move. Creating and naming a stage alter-ego and then dressing the part too is akin to proclaiming your super star status by saying, ‘it worked for the greats such as David Bowie and Prince, it can work for me too’. Or is it just a form of artistic expression that should be applauded?

Read MoreFive minutes with: Dolly Jones, editor of Vogue.com
If anyone knows about the ups and downs of working in online media it’s editor of Vogue.com, Dolly Jones. Under her direction she’s literally turned the site into fashion heaven – packed with videos and podcasts to keep us occupied…oh and enough street-chic to keep us inspired too! Always on the go, Dolly took a five-minute break to talk to us about fashion week, H&M collaborations, and British fashion. You’ve worked at Vogue.com for over nine years now, what’s the biggest change you’ve witnessed in online publishing since you first started? That people want us to feature them. When I started it was quite a challenge to persuade designers and models that they wanted to be associated with a phenomenon they didn’t understand – the internet was associated with internet geeks and porn addicts and not fashionable at all. What does a normal day for you consist of? Every day is different. It’s a luxury if I get to sit at my desk and get through my emails, I receive hundreds every day. I work with a brilliant editorial team these days and I love seeing all the ideas we come up with coming to fruition, whether it’s a film on VogueTV, a gallery of the seasonal trends from A to Z or an exclusive interview in the Daily News. I work with the commercial team to try to bring exciting and innovative clients onto the site and travel to Paris and Milan to cover the fashion shows as well as liaising with the magazine team to ensure our brand is where they want it to be. It’s a constant hamster wheel of meeting all the most exciting people in fashion to ensure we are on the pulse of what’s happening within the industry, both with the established global businesses […]

Last night, during what may easily have been my one hundredth ever viewing of “Almost Famous”, it occurred to me that Penny Lane seems somewhat prematurely to have the A/W 08 trends all sewn up. Penny, also known as Kate Hudson peaking before a lifetime of rom-coms and Matthew McConaughey stole her away, has been the longtime style icon and role model (groupie is still my plan B career choice) to the hippy in me. But all of a sudden her 70s sartorial haziness seems relevant to the fashion world at large.

In my case its a don’t. Among my many obsessions – oversized bags, jodphurs, high waisted jeans..the list could go on – harem pants have never been one. In fact, they’ve always posed somewhat of a fashion dilemma for me. Admittedly there are some who can actually pull them off without looking like they belong in a circus (no, I’m not referring to MC Hammer) or even worse a music video from the early 90’s.

As the lights dimmed in a smoky East End venue, the Rodnik boys picked up their instruments and began to play. Girls decked out in flirtatious party dresses of shiny black, hot pink and quirky prints rocked out like groupies, capturing the mischievous energy that designers Rich and Paul generated on stage. Despite emerging from distinctly non-fashion backgrounds, the boys’ continued their popular collaboration between music and fashion, shunning an over intellectual approach in favour of a simple, flattering silhouette which captured their spirit of “rock brand chic.

Before today’s show, I just remembered Malan Breton as the eccentric, Count Dracula resembling contestant on the last season of Project Runway. Even though he didn’t make it to Bryant Park via Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn, the fashion newbie generated enough buzz on his own and showcased his first collection in the Tents for Spring 07. Breton’s AW08 presentation today was quite impressive and gave off a “tres luxe et riche” feel. I say this in French, because there were definitely some strong French influences on the runway, starting from the swanky music, to the rouged lips and heavy eyeliner on the models, to the use of neutral blacks and off-white colors contrasted by bright reds.

I’m not going to lie—over an hour of waiting in line in four-inch heels after a ten hour day at work makes me cranky. So cranky, in fact, that I will contemplate getting out of line, especially when it looks as though, a) I won’t get into the show and b) If I do get in, it may never start as it’s already nearing the hour delay mark. Luckily for me (and my feet!) I was one of the last people let in and I muscled my way into a seat. As the lights dimmed and sultry Brazilian music pumped out over the sound system, my bad mood disappeared. Iódice was absolutely delightful.

Clothing designers collaborating on non-apparel related items is nothing new, but when it comes to gadgets the majority of designers have taken an approach that focuses on protective cases instead of branding the product itself.
