Adele confused by Wintour

Adele didn’t know who Anna Wintour was until she was summoned to her office. The ‘Chasing Pavements’ star was styled by the legendary editor of US style bible Vogue for the Grammy Awards last February, but had no idea who staff at the magazine were referring to when they sent her to meet Anna. Adele, who wore an A-line black dress and a pea green, knee-length coat to the prestigious event, explained: ‘I was in their offices for a fitting, and they were like, ‘Anna wants to meet you.’ I was like, ‘Who’s Anna?’ And they were like, ‘Um… the editor.’ She was really quiet and I don’t think she liked me at first. But then I made her laugh so it was all good.’

Mills McCartney vs Wintour

Wife of Sir Paul McCartney and animal rights activist Heather Mills McCartney is determined to protest against as many (celebrity) fur users as possible! After slamming Sean Combs and losing her leg whilst coming against J-Lo’s bodyguards during a protest against the singer, she has now gone after Vogue Editor Anna Wintour dubbing her has “Cruella DeWintour” and taking it a step further with, “She’s the head at Vogue, and if you look at Vogue, there are only three or four articles, and the whole thing is a manipulation of the consumer and reader to buy fur. Every single article, every designer does fur ’cause she’ll say, ‘I’ll put you in the magazine if you put some fur items in it.” [Contactmusic.com]

Top 20 Best Dressed At The Met Gala 2018

It’s the event every fashionista has been waiting for. The annual Met Gala took place last night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the majority of celebs in attendance didn’t disappoint. Hosted by Rihanna, Donatella Versace, Amal Clooney and Anna Wintour, the theme of the evening was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” While as per usual, some starlets copped out by playing it safe in a standard gown that would have been at home at any red-carpet, to the delight of us here at MFL, others such as Rihanna (whom never lets us down), Sarah Jessica Parker, Blake Lively, Zendaya and many more put in 150%. Drones Replace Models At Dolce & Gabbana During Milan Fashion Week

Remember when fashion was constantly being accused of being behind the times with regards to technology? Well,  that’s most certainly no longer the case. It’s safe to say fashion has embraced technology with open arms, as was evidenced by Dolce & Gabbana’s autumn/winter 2018 presentation during Milan Fashion Week. Opting to showcase their collection of handbags in high-tech opulence, at least 8 pieces of must-have D&G arm candy made their way down the catwalk with the aid of drones. Yes, drones… Attendees were asked to switch off all wi-fi connections and the presentation was delayed by 45 mins which no doubt left Anna Wintour slightly miffed, however judging by the media coverage, it was well worth the hassle.

The Queen Made A Visit To London Fashion Week.Yes, Really!

Yesterday saw two (albeit very different) Queens seated together at London Fashion Week. Yep Richard Quinn’s presentation saw Her Royal Highness sat on the frow next to undoubtedly the Queen of fashion and editor of American Vogue, Anna Wintour. With lots of smiles and laughter, while it appeared that Her Majesty enjoyed the collection which was packed with obvious nods to the guest of honour, her attendance was in fact specifically to present Quinn with the Queen Elizabeth II award for British design. Organised by the British Fashion Council and the Queen’s dressmaker, Angela Kelly, the Queen was officially welcomed by the BFC’s CEO, Caroline Rush who gave a speech saying, “Your Majesty, I know you do not wish to be known as a fashion icon, but from all of us in this room, we have the utmost respect for you and also for your hard work and diligence.” Wearing a blue tweed skirt suit, the monarch was greeted with cheers as she presented the British designer with his much deserved award, and stated that the award was “a tribute to the industry and my legacy and all those who have contributed to British fashion.” What a wonderful surprise!

Kate Moss pays homage to Cara Delevingne for Halloween

We have to admit we really enjoyed costume watching this Halloween…..just one of the many reasons why we’re addicted to Instagram. Heidi Klum may be infamous for making the most effort with her costumes but this year a few of our beloved celebs gave Klum a run for her money. We have way too many favourites to mention……we “oooh and ahhhed” at Beyoncé and Blue Ivy as Janet and Michael Jackson, laughed a lot at Kim and North as Anna Wintour and André Leon Talley (we’d pay good money to find out the ice queen’s thoughts about this pic)…. ….and we love, love, loved the cuteness overload of seeing Penelope and North West as adorable skunks. But the award for best dressed and the focus of today’s celebrity style goes to the one and only Kate Moss who pulled of her buddy Cara Delevingne perfectly. From the hoodie to the skinny jeans, to her impressions. Kate nailed it. Poking fun at Cara, Moss accessorised her outfit with a dab of white powder carefully placed on her nose. A tad controversial or just a good laugh? Thoughts? [Images]

Natalia Vodianova turns ballet dancer for Vogue US November cover

We’re pleased to reveal that Anna Wintour has once again decided to let a model as opposed to a Hollywood celeb grace the latest cover of American Vogue… and the model this time round is the one and only Natalia Vodianova. The gorgeous model was shot by Vogue regular Annie Leibovitz for the cover and accompanying editorial shoot, and to say that “romance” was a key theme would be a bit of an understatement. Annie and Natalia perfectly encapsulate the dreamy romance of the ballet as they take a grand tour of the Paris Opera Ballet with new director (and hubby to one Natalie Portman) Benjamin Millepied. “I always loved and adored the ballet,” Natalia said. “It’s the beauty, the finesse of the dancers, and the choreography – and the challenge of it.” “I felt like a princess or a character in some sort of fairy tale,” she said about the shoot. “It was an absolute dream.” We think we would feel the same way too. In fact we don’t even think we would find the words to describe it, so kudos to Natalia for doing such a good job. You can see the full editorial in the Vogue US November issue.

Naomi Campbell and Keira Knightley among Interview’s September cover stars!

We thought we had seen all of this year’s coveted September issues when Anna Wintour finally debuted the highly anticipated American Vogue cover earlier this week, but it looks like we forgot one. The Interview September issue – and it’s a good’un! Named The Photographer’s Issue, Interview’s September offering asked six leading photographers to choose anyone they wanted to pose for their own individual cover; and the results are pretty incredible! Patrick Demarchelier picked the ever-photogenic English rose that is Keira Knightley, who can be seen posing in a stunning Donna Karan ensemble with minimal make-up and the quite-hard-to-pull-off wet look hairstyle. Keira managed it though – that goes without saying but the proof is in the pic above! Photography’s dynamic duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott chose one of the most powerful supermodels in the world for their cover… a Balmain-clad Naomi Campbell! Well played, guys! Other cover stars include Nicole Kidman, who was shot by Steven Klein, and American actress and model Amber Valletta, who was photographed by Craig McDean. Peter Lindbergh chose to shoot French actress Lea Seydoux for his cover, and last but not least, Ukrainian Canadian model Daria Werbowy’s cover was shot by Mikael Jansson. So much talent in one magazine! Don’t forget to get your copy to see more pics, interviews and fabulous fashion features.

Joan Smalls, Cara Delevingne and Karlie Kloss for American Vogue’s September issue!

Anna Wintour and the rest of the American Vogue gang have really outdone themselves, as this year’s gargantuan September issue features not one or even two, but three of the biggest young supermodels in the world! And in case the title or indeed the pic above didn’t give it away, those ‘Insta-models’ as the cover calls them, are Joan Smalls, Cara Delevingne and Karlie Kloss! (Don’t forget that Cara also secured the British Vogue September issue too…) Although Joan, Cara and Karlie are instantly recognisable and famous around the world – thus making them fall into the celebrity category – we’re glad that the fashion Bible has chosen the supermodel as opposed to the famous actress or singer to front the biggest issue of the year. We can’t wait to see what the pages of the magazine hold… you know, once we get past all the ads! Do you love the cover as much as we do or should the magazine have done what it did last year and chosen an Oscar-winning actress? [Huffington Post]

Our Top 5 Fashion Photographers

In this social media world where everyone over the age of eight has a smartphone with a camera and in which street style fans are obsessed with finding the perfect lens to capture those great shots, it seems like everyone is a ‘photographer’. But they have a long way to go to reach the heights of the true fashion photography greats. Here’s a list of our five fave photographers in the biz, and the things we love about them: Mario Testino Probably one of the most famous, successful, respected and wealthy photographers in the world – and that isn’t just a coincidence! Why else would the Peruvian economics graduate be trusted with photographing the Royal family time and time again? He shot the late Princess Diana for Vanity Fair back in 1997, and more recently he caught Prince William and Kate Middleton’s engagement on camera for the world to see too. He’s also Anna Wintour and Christopher Bailey’s go-to man when it comes to those respective Vogue cover shoots and Burberry ad campaigns, although those aren’t the only things he spend his time on. Over the years, it’s no exaggeration to say that he just might have shot the majority of the celebrity world, with some of the people posing for his camera including Lady Gaga, Naomi Campbell, Cara Delevingne, Gisele, and so many more. What a pro!   Annie Leibovitz Another American Vogue/Anna Wintour favourite – although Annie Leibovitz hasn’t always just been photographing the stars for the biggest fashion glossy in the world. We love the photographer for her infamously controversial pictures including the John Lennon and Yoko Ono nude embrace shot, Angelina Jolie naked in the bath tub (pictured above), and a pregnant (and of course, nude) Demi Moore on the cover of Vanity Fair. And somewhat […]

Fashion Week front row tickets auctioned off!

Traditionally, the front rows of fashion shows are reserved for the A-list celebrities and powerful fashion folk (that’s your Blake Livelys and your Anna Wintours to name just two) – but that’s all about to change. Don’t feel like you’re out of the fashion loop if you see a few unrecognisable faces on the Milan Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week front rows this September, as some FROW seats are going under the hammer and will go to the highest bidder – whoever that may be! Watermill Center Summer Auction is auctioning off some Fashion Week packages, with all of the profits going towards the Hamptons gallery which allows artists to exhibit their work for free. So what’s in these exciting packages, you ask? Two front row tickets to the Prada and Giorgio Armani shows, as well as front row tickets and backstage access to the Fendi show. Can you imagine being a fly on the wall as Karl Lagerfeld preps his models just before they hit the catwalk? Such a privilege doesn’t come cheap though, as the bidding starts at an eye-watering $25,000. If you want something a little more, erm, affordable though, Miu Miu front row tickets for Paris Fashion Week are also going under the hammer, with the bidding starting at $10,000. Do you know anyone who might be interested in splashing the cash for a once in a lifetime opportunity?

Carine Roitfeld styles the Steven Meisel lensed Pirelli calendar 2015

What we’ve learnt today is that if you’ve ever edited an edition of Vogue, you can pretty much rule the world. Earlier today we told you that American Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour got one heck of a big promotion, and now we are telling you that former Vogue Paris editor in chief Carine Roitfeld has been put in charge of styling the highly anticipated and hugely coveted Pirelli calendar 2015. We know we say it every year, but we really think the 2015 edition is going to be the best one yet! The calendar has been shot by the super-talented Steven Meisel, and features some of the hottest models such as Victoria’s Secret Angel Adriana Lima (above), Joan Smalls, Isabeli Fontana, Karen Elson, Raquel Zimmermann, “plus size” model Candice Huffine, and Natalia Vodianova – who gave birth merely a few days before the photoshoot. Not that anyone would be able to tell from her incredible figure… WWD has a few sneaky peeks of the pics for us, but we’ll keep you posted as soon as more images from the calendar emerge. Are you pleased with what you see so far?

Which fashion names made the Forbes 100 Most Powerful Women list?

A few weeks after the release of the Sunday Times Rich List comes the highly anticipated Forbes 100 Most Powerful Women list… and once again, some of fashion’s biggest names have made the cut. Vogue US Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour was the highest ranking fashion name coming in at a very respectable number 39 (two places higher than last year, we’ll have you know!) and it’s thought that her work on the Barack Obama re-election campaign and her continuous work with the newly re-named Anna Wintour Costume Center helped her promotion up the list. Gisele, i.e. the highest paid supermodel in the world according to Forbes, once again made the list – and she should feel extra privileged because she was actually the only model to make the list. We bet Naomi Campbell will have something to say about that… Spanx founder and sartorial saviour to women everywhere Sara Blakely came in at number 93, and former Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts – who has now moved to Apple – secured position number 49. Designers such as Miuccia Prada, Diane von Furstenberg and Tory Burch have also made the list – no surprises there although we expected to see Stella McCartney and Victoria Beckham in there too. Maybe next year, perhaps? Angelina Jolie and Shakira made the list for all their charitable efforts, as did Beyonce and Sofia Vergara. Click here to take a look at the list in all its glory, and find out who secured the very top spot. Go on, have a guess….

Kim weds Kanye in Givenchy!

It’s a wrap folks. Kimye have finally tied the knot and after much speculation, it looks like it was a Givenchy affair. Kim opted on Givenchy by Ricardo Tisci for her big day and so did Kanye and baby North West too. Tying the knot in Florence the wedding was as extravagant as ever….sadly a number of guests declined to attend…. Anna Wintour, JayZ and Beyonce and Rob Kardashian all failed to make an appearance… Anna blamed family commitments. It’s speculated JayZ and Beyonce chose not to attend to avoid a run in with designer Rachel Roy and Rob ditched the wedding at the last minute due to a family spat. Of course, many did show up to celebrate with the couple. Guests included Andre Leon Talley, LaLa Anthony, The Pussycat Dolls Robin Antin, rapper Common and Chrissy Tiegen (who committed a fashion faux pas along with Kris Jenner). The highlight of the evening however was John Legend’s tribute to the duo Dedicating his hit All of me to the couple, in his speech Legend said, ‘Kim. He was so in to you before he was even with you. He is in love with you. I am so happy to see you two together.” All in all it looks as though it all went well without too many hitches.

Charlize Theron poses in Dior for Vogue US June cover

Anna Wintour knows a good thing when she sees it – why else would she continue asking Charlize Theron to pose for her magazine, hm? Yep in case you haven’t already guessed, the gorgeous actress has scored the American Vogue June 2014 cover – her sixth appearance for the fashion glossy if you can believe it. While we still don’t think anything will top her December 2011 cover, we definitely reckon this issue will shift its fair share of copies. Charlize was photographed by Mario Testino and is looking absolutely darling in Dior on the cover, with promises of other high fashion pieces being modelled in the accompanying editorial. We can’t wait to get our hands on this issue, especially because of Charlize’s juicy interview and the “summer style made easy” headline.

Emma Stone covers American Vogue’s May issue!

Good things do indeed come to those who wait – why else would Anna Wintour wait ‘til all the other magazine covers have been released before debuting the American Vogue ones? The Vogue US May issue is solid proof that you save the best ‘til last, as it features Emma Stone – expertly photographed by Craig McDean – rocking a plethora of fabulously fashionable pieces on the cover and within the accompanying editorial. And her interview is a great read too, just as we expected, as we kind of like to think of Emma as our girl-next-door best friend. Inside the mag, Emma poses in threads from Christian Dior to Chanel and many more in-between, and also talks about her new films (The Amazing Spider-Man 2 included, naturally) and her boyfriend/Spidey himself, Andrew Garfield… “I think I’ve learned a lot by being around him,” she gushed. “And, you know, he is an incredibly important person to me. “It’s been fun working with him just because of who he is as an actor and person. I think it would be fun no matter what.” Aww, what a cutie! And judging by their appearance at The Amazing Spider-Man 2 premiere, we think their love is as strong as ever! You can read the rest of Emma’s interview in the Vogue US May issue.

What did Naomi Campbell really think of Kim Kardashian’s Vogue cover?

Some have loved it and some have hated it – Sarah Michelle Gellar even Tweeted that she would be cancelling her subscription as a result of it – but what does the fiercest, most outspoken supermodel of them all think of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s Vogue cover? After all, you can always count on Naomi Campbell to speak her mind… During a phone interview on Australia’s The Morning Show, the supermodel was asked what she thought of the cover, but her answer, or lack thereof, may surprise you… “I do not want to comment,” she said, with a little chuckle and a big, cheeky grin. She did defend her “comment” though… “Because I’m a fashion model and I’ve been working for 28 years, and when you get a Vogue cover, it’s a build in your career. It’s a stepping-stone to achieve that. I’m a fashion model, what more can I say?” The interviewer then quickly jumped in there and asked, “so you think that Kim and Kanye haven’t earned the right to be on the cover of Vogue?” “Those are your words,” Naomi replied. “I’m being politically correct. That’s Anna Wintour’s choice to put them on the cover of her magazine, who’s to question it?” Oooo! Watch the video below to watch the exchanging of words exactly as it happened. Do you like Naomi’s dignified silence or do you think she should have spoken her mind? http://youtu.be/jx7oJLmhgL0

Sarah Jessica Parker is Worst Dressed of the Week in Dolce & Gabbana

Did we ever imagine Sarah Jessica Parker would encounter a post-SATC wardrobe malfunction? Not really, given she’s besties with Anna Wintour, and has a finger in every fashion pie imaginable. So, when she treated us to TWO faux pas in the space of a few days, we felt a little, well, bemused. Stirring up the fashion rules in Dolce & Gabbana on both occasions, SJP seriously missed the mark with some pretty unusual layering tricks, and a rather odd approach to hosiery. Disaster 1: struck when she attended the launch presentation of her SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker shoe collection at Nordstrom in L.A. Wearing an ivory Dolce & Gabbana dress over a black top and tights; the outfit was a pretty odd choice for sunny Cali. Finished off with green pumps and a half-up ponytail, we’re not quite sure where Sarah was headed with this one. Disaster 2: played out at the Nordstrom Aventura mall in Florida, where once again on promotional duty, Sarah put together an eye-catching-for-all-the-wrong-reasons ensemble. And, boy did she leave us confused! Layering a red lace Dolce dress over a long-sleeved shirt and finishing off with footless tights and Carrie T-bar pumps from her own collection, this look was dressed-in-the-dark personified. Two bewildering looks from a lady who’s usually overspilling with glam is too much for our style-seeking hearts to bear. Here’s hoping this doesn’t happen again – at least not to the lady with the dream wardrobe! [Images: Left; Right]

5 Other unspeakable things that could happen in fashion

Do PRs not know the value of their lives (read: careers) anymore? Have they completely gone off their collective rockers, so to speak, and decided it’s time to shift Planet Fashion’s tectonic plates with a seating blunder? Well, that’s what happened, when The Anna Wintour was seated second row at the Valentino show earlier this week. SECOND row. Just take a few seconds to absorb that info-bomb. It was a moment carefully pointed out by Christina Binkley, fashion columnist for the Wall Street Journal, who was the first to Insta-capture the head turning moment, later responding to the influx of Instagram comments with: “Hey guys – she chose to sit second row. No one forced her. It was a gracious move.” Also, turns out, as reported by Fashionista, that seats for American publications at the show had been noticeably whittled down this year, which could explain the OMG bum-on-bench arrangement. But, still, is there a deeper meaning to Wintour’s shuffle back? Is she rewriting the ‘if you’re not front row, you don’t matter’ rule? And, above all, did she really give up her seat politely, or was it a cunning manoeuvre on Team Valentino PR’s part to get the conversation flowing beyond the dreamy clothes? Whilst you ponder the possibilities, here are five other unspeakable things that could happen in fashion, but haven’t so far. Phones at the ready, guys… Chanel swaps OTT shows for intimate presentations Just imagine: no glacial palaces or supermarket sweep layouts. If this happened, would it be the end of Chanel as we know it? Would Kaiser Karl and his ponytail lose their allure? Freebie riots aren’t fun in small spaces. Street style photographers slapped with a ban Imagine. JUST IMAGINE the possibilities of looking ‘normal’ at Fashion Week. Well, it would certainly take the […]

Paris Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Anthony Vaccarello, Corrie Nielsen and Tex Saverio

Anna Wintour was in a bit of a rush to leave Milan for Paris (she even missed the Giorgio Armani show!), but was the first day of Paris Fashion Week worth leaving the Italian city early for? Well, we don’t know about that, but the designers that showcased their autumn/winter 2014 collections in the French capital certainly wowed the crowd. ANTHONY VACCARELLO AW14 Anthony Vaccarello (Nicole Richie and Jennifer Lopez are huge fans – and it’s not hard to see why!) made sure the first day of the fash pack’s last stop in Paris was a memorable one, with fierce red and black looks dominating the catwalk. Minimal and wearable daytime ensembles were juxtaposed with short and tight evening pieces (J-Lo will no doubt be all over the new-season pieces) with chains and metal finding their way on the garments in a sleek, slinky and sinfully sexy way – a signature Anthony Vaccarello collection with bags of attitude! We particularly loved the attention he paid to the collar – he attached it to pretty much everything, and everyone! TEX SAVERIO AW14 We expected big things from the Tex Saverio autumn/winter 2014 collection; the Indonesian designer has been on our radar ever since it was announced that he was the creative brains behind Katniss Everdeen’s Hunger Games wedding dress, and we certainly weren’t disappointed with what we saw in Paris. A black, gold and silver colour palette dominated the new collection, as did pieces that came in big shapes and sizes. It was all about volume, something which was very apparent in the large and in charge skirts and a gorgeous laser cut cape in a deep shade of red that we have a feeling will be making its red carpet debut in the next few months. CORRIE NIELSEN AW14 Corrie […]

WATCH: Milan Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Giorgio Armani and DSQUARED²

Here it is, the last day of Milan Fashion Week for yet another season, and the King of MFW, or should we say it’s saviour, Mr Giorgio Armani, ensured that he gave everyone something to talk about. And it wasn’t just what happened on the catwalk – but more on that later. The collection – entitled “fade to grey” – did pretty much what it said on the tin; grey is the new colour of the season in Giorgio Armani’s world, with a hint of lime green added in there for a splash of much-needed colour. Cropped trousers, pleats, elegant evening dresses that wouldn’t be out of place on this weekend’s Oscars red carpet. We hope to see Cate Blanchett, who is the face of the Si Giorgio Armani fragrance, in one of the floor-length dresses from this collection. So what else happened at the Giorgio Armani show that ruffled a few feathers? Well it wasn’t something that happened, it was actually something that didn’t happen! Anna Wintour decided to give the Giorgio Armani show a miss and ready herself for the Paris Fashion Week action, and Giorgio Armani was very vocal about his opinions on it. He was less than happy, let’s put it that way! “There are some who prefer to snub the Giorgio Armani show and go to Paris,” he said at a press conference after the show. “She took an airplane, dumped Mr. Armani and went to Paris.” Ouch! Anna Wintour’s people tried to do damage control though… “Anna has the greatest respect for Giorgio Armani and everything he has done for Italy and fashion worldwide,” said Anna’s representative at Condé Nast . “Unfortunately, with the fashion calendar now running for more than a month, there are some shows that Anna is not able to attend.” […]

Sibling rivalry: Which Kardashian deserves to land an American Vogue cover?

“To be in Vogue has to mean something,” stated Anna Wintour, and, well, she’s speaking the biblical truth. Campaigning for this prestigious right are two siblings from the world’s most talked about family/klan, depending on how you prefer to address them. Kim Kardashian – the queen of Céline separates and Tom Ford pieces so tight, they create curves ever she didn’t know existed– has kept the fashion set (and herself) guessing whether the coveted prize of cover girl shall be hers (let’s not forget, she’s already been L’uomo-d). From a lobbying partner, whom eventually got his beau to make an unforgettable entrance at the 2013 MET Gala – an event she had previously been banned from by Her Majesty Anna Wintour – to befriending Carine Roitfeld and scoring couture pieces (and front row seats) in Paris, earlier this year; Kim isn’t playing games, she’s ruddy serious. But then again, so is her twee-faced, doe-eyed, long-limbed sibling, Kendall Jenner. The upcoming model has been scoring some fashion hot seats of late. From a nipple-on-show performance at the Marc Jacobs autumn/winter 2014 show to walking for Giles in the Big Smoke, sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with Anna Wintour at the Topshop Unique show and posing for a certified selfie with Delevingne and gang backstage; junior Jenner’s sure as hell making her mark in notable fashion circles.  And, all sans sexual controversies, slip-ups and stunts. So, who will be victorious in the race to win Wintour’s (steely) heart, and be the first to grace the glossy covers of the world’s most highly regarded fashion tome? Below, our strongest arguments for putting either sibling on the cover of American Vogue- or both, if Wintour’s feeling generous… Why Kim Kardashian? Luxury-appreciation factor: Kim sure knows the wow factor value of pairing the luxurious, most expensive of wardrobe pieces together […]

WATCH: London Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Burberry, David Koma, Michael van der Ham & more

No rest for the wicked – or stylish – Day 4 of London Fashion Week was just as jam-packed and exciting as ever; and we were there to take in all the action! Where else would we be on a day when Burberry, David Koma, Michael van der Ham, Tom Ford and Roksanda Ilincic are showcasing their autumn/winter 2014 collections, eh? Burberry AW14 One of the highlights of the day – and the five day event as a whole – was the Burberry Prorsum autumn/winter 2014 show. Luckily it was a dry affair (not that a little or a lot of rain would have stopped us) and the front row was as star-studded as ever. Bradley Cooper, Harry Styles, Sky Ferreira, Anna Wintour and more celebs graced the front row to view the collection first hand – and we think they would have been pretty chuffed with what they saw. If there was one thing we took away from the show, It was that we need to go scarf shopping asap. Scarves as you know them will no longer suffice, as it’s all about the oversized ones that can double up as a blanket. Or you could just buy a blanket with your initials on, as they too made it down the Burberry runway in the epic finale. Burberry definitely didn’t do things by halves in the music department either, as we were treated to a stellar performance by the one and only Paloma Faith. Pipe envy! Overall, Burberry presented a soft, casual, comfortable and warm collection which Christopher Bailey said was inspired by the Charleston Farmhouse in Sussex of the Bloomsbury Group. WATCH: LFW AW14 highlights from Temperley London, Mary Katrantzou & more

MARY KATRANTZOU AW14 COLLECTION She may have been dubbed the digital print queen by way of her hypnotising design USP of seasons past, but Mary Katrantzou took a refreshing detour this season. Dizzying print work was replaced by symbols that held a deeper meaning; school badges, medals, clock faces, a coat of arms all made an appearance, intricately embroidered onto fuzzy sweatshirts, patchworked onto maxi skirts and running down pleated gowns to resemble a holy vestment. Suits cut in jacquard are set to become the fashion set’s new favourites, and one in particular – a bird-print skirt suit with pleated gym-skirt – demanded attention. Delicate slips dresses with hook straps featured a metal mesh adorned with gold-tone hearts, squares and pearls, tricking onlookers into believing they were admiring an art installation. Well, we were certainly in awe. TEMPERLEY LONDON AW14 COLLECTION Temperley London may hail from the leafy enclaves of Somerset, but, designer Alice Temperley didn’t stick to the quiet side for autumn/winter ’14. Bringing her signature decorative style to the table, Byzantine architecture-inspired prints were splashed across unbuttoned coats, tightly belted at the waist. Pretty skirt suits were updated with a boxier silhouette, while stained glass-imitating laser prints prettily played out across red carpet worthy dresses. New for this season, however, was the concept of layering luxe evening looks: an oversize fur stole in a fluffy peach hue was breathtaking over a shawl and barely there gown; while neck scarves, outerwear and shawls daubed in striking floral prints were the accessory du jour to seek protection from the winter chill. Just perfect. RICHARD NICOLL AW14 COLLECTION As blue emerges to be the hue of the hour for next season, Richard Nicoll didn’t hold back in feeding our appetite for the coldest shade-gone-hot. School girl attire-gone-haute was the message here, […]

London Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Emilia Wickstead, Joseph, Hunter Original & more

Braving the gusty elements, Team MFL trekked to Somerset House (and beyond) for day two of London Fashion Week fashtivities. Well, given today’s stellar schedule, cosying up indoors and living vicariously through Style.com just wasn’t an option! Winter work wear woes went straight out the window at Holly Fulton, this morning, as the ideal “working girl” made her way down the runway. Etching the collection purely from her experience as a working woman – but one with a head for serious, workable fashion – Fulton gave us masculine coats imprinted with stunning motifs; sheath dresses and fluid pencil skirts featuring kookily enlarged mobile phone bearing hand motifs – avec perfecto manicured nails, of course. A nod to the “corporate cog” came courtesy of a glittery knit printed with the aforementioned  component, while mini briefcases and stacked bangles alluded to Fulton’s ability to create magic with her hands, literally. Effortlessly moving from a black to grey palette, Joseph is the go-to label for those channelling fashion’s new comfort-led direction. The autumn/winter 2014 presentation promised chill-proof staples with that rooted for masculine allure. Long-line, voluminous knits sat atop perfectly tailored pants, while the sharpness of a suit blazer was tempered with pleated skirts, pussy-bow blouses and touches of mid-Western fringing sliced in black leather. A coordinating trio of peg leg pants, oversize knit and beanie hat broke away from the neutral colour trail, but otherwise, this collection is an easy- goers dream come true. Possibly the dreamiest of designers when it comes to this side of the pond; this season, Emilia Wickstead reminded us of those dark, wintry nights we refuse to embrace with ease. The show notes referenced “Film Noir”, and we got exactly that: a clear vision of what winter’s dangerously stylish woman will look like, come September. From a […]

The rumours were true: Lena Dunham lands Vogue US February cover!

Rumours were rife way back in October that Lena Dunham might have landed her first ever Vogue cover after Anna Wintour publically sang her praises, and it looks like there was some truth in them. Well, a lot of truth, as American Vogue’s February cover star is none other than Girls creator and leading lady, Lena Dunham. Words can’t describe how excited we are! If you’re a fan of Girls (and why wouldn’t you be) and love all of Hannah’s raw yet cringey storylines, then you might be interested to know that her struggles are close to home for Lena, too. “I still go to a party and say something embarrassing to someone, and then write them a weird e-mail about it the next day, and then write them a text because I think they didn’t get the e-mail,” Lena said. “No matter what happens with your level of success, you still have to deal with all the baggage that is yourself.” You can check out the rest of Lena’s interview and see more amazing pictures shot by the legendary Annie Leibovitz right here. Girls season 3 starts on Monday January 20th on Sky Atlantic at 10pm.

Giorgio Armani pledges to save Milan Fashion Week

Yesterday we told you that yet another brand was leaving Milan Fashion Week as we revealed that Miu Miu will now be showcasing its new-season collections in Paris… and Giorgio Armani isn’t too happy about it. The designer has now become a board member of the National Chamber of Italian Fashion which basically aims to spice up Milan Fashion Week. “While I still believe that all Italian brands should hold their fashion shows in Italy to give due prominence to our country, as an entrepreneur I understand that certain situations, created over the years, need time to be reorganized,” reads a statement from Armani. “It seems only right, and indeed necessary, for me to send a further strong signal of commitment and confidence aimed at boosting an upswing in the vitality of Italian fashion and, at the same time, to show a sign of support for the actions undertaken by the other brand members of the National Chamber of Italian Fashion. In recent years, Milan has struggled to compete with New York, London and Paris in terms of interest (even Anna Wintour wasn’t too fussed about MFW last season, remember?) but we hope that Mr Armani’s involvement will reinvigorate Milan Fashion Week and put it right up there with the rest of its fashionable counterparts. What is fashion? Is it art, culture, or advertising?

What do you imagine when someone utters the word ‘fashion’? Unadulterated glamour? Power? Exploitation, maybe? It’s something we’ve recently been pondering, given our affection for this industry, and a term that holds a specific, heartfelt meaning for each of us. In the opening scenes of the 1998 film, Gia – a biopic that trails the tragic life of supermodel Gia Carangi, whose meteoric rise to modelling fame in the late 1970s, and equally rapid demise into a dark world of addiction shocked the fashion world – the character of Anna Wintour sums up the heartbreaking narrative of the film – and Gia’s fate – in one sweeping statement: “Fashion isn’t art. It’s not even culture. Fashion is advertising. And for every dollar you earn, someone pays the price.” Knockout words from the mouth of the monster lady of fashion, but do they hold any truth? Gia’s character, played by a dewy-eyed Angelina Jolie, almost convinces us of their accuracy. Disturbed, overworked and, at the zenith of her career, drug-addled, young Gia can’t seem to escape from this vicious schedule; a merry-go-round of pushy agents, roguish photographers, and a disregarding mother who isn’t phased by her daughter’s drug habit and downward spiral. Gia ultimately appears to pay the price. But how true are Wintour’s words? And who really pays the price? To work it out, we have to look at her statement in its component parts. What is fashion? Magazine editors tell us that these tomes serve an inspirational purpose; isn’t this exactly what art does? We’re taken with a captivating canvas, just as we are with a shoot featuring new season wares in a far-flung locale. Magazines tell us what to watch, where to dine, and what to read; that’s culturing the discerning fashion consumer, who wants to be seen […]

Has Lena Dunham landed her first Vogue US cover?

She’s already covered the Marie Claire UK October issue (and looked gorgeous on it, may we add) but Lena Dunham might be getting her Vogue debut in the very near future too. Well, she will if Anna Wintour has anything to do with it! According to rumours and reports, the editor-in-chief is mega-keen to get the Girls star on the cover of the fashion Bible… “Anna is trying to seduce Lena into bringing her next-generation audience into the Vogue brand,” a ‘source’ apparently said. “Anna’s perspective is that they need each other. She’s willing to violate a lot of Vogue traditions to do it, including putting her on the cover even though she doesn’t really conform to the body type that Vogue has featured for most of its history.” We hope she doesn’t get the Adele treatment though; i.e. we hope there are lots of full body shots on the cover and in the editorial and not just pictures shot from the shoulders up. We really hope this rumour is true; we’d definitely buy the issue and have a feeling a lot of other people will too. We predict a best-seller! [Radar]

What happens at a fashion party? Give a few clues, and of course, include the dress code! Get the décor right Leave no detail to chance and dress your room to match the occasion. A red carpet leading up to the door will set the tone for the evening and you can have delicate outside fairy lights to add even more elegance and class to the walkways. A mirror ball inside and […]

Kate Upton is chic and cosy in Stella McCartney

If someone told us we’d be lusting after the wardrobe of a Sports Illustrated model we wouldn’t have believed them. After all, we love layers and lots of them, and lads mag models typically don’t. However, Kate Upton is no longer just a Sports Illustrated model – she’s made quite a fashionable name for herself… a status which was clearly cemented by her British Vogue and American Vogue covers and a multitude of high fashion ad campaigns. So, with her new style maven status and Anna Wintour approval, it should come as no suspire to see her rocking some of the hottest fashions as she goes about her daily business. She looked warm, cosy and oh so stylish in Paris in a pair of simple black skinny jeans, knee high black boots and a Stella McCartney jumper from the autumn/winter 2013 collection which has us totally foaming at the mouth. Kate looks so effortlessly chic and beautiful, and we definitely predict a bit of a girl crush forming. [Image c/o Stella McCartney/TGB /Splash News]

Kanye West goes on another fashion-based rant, insists Hedi Slimane “copied” him

We’ve just told you about his girlfriend Kim Kardashian’s brand new fragrance, but now it’s time to talk about Kanye West as he has gone on yet another rant – this time claiming that new Saint Laurent Paris creative director Hedi Slimane copied him… “So when I see Hedi Slimane, and it’s like, ‘OK, this is my take on the world,’ yeah, he’s got some nice $5,000 jeans in there, it’s some nice ones here and there, some good shit here and there, but we are culture,” he began. “Rap is the new rock and roll. We are culture. Rap is the new rock and roll. We are the rock stars. It’s been like that for a minute, Hedi Slimane. It’s been like that for a minute. We the real rock stars, and I’m the biggest of all of them. “Whether I’m at a dinner with Anna Wintour, or a listening party with Pusha-T or in Rome with Virgil, giving Fendi our designs and getting them knocked down… We brought the leather jogging pants six years ago to Fendi, and they said no. How many motherf***ers you done seen with a leather jogging pant?” Erm, was that a rhetorical question? Should be begin trawling through the archives with our calculators? In the meantime, you can catch part 1 of the whole BBC Radio 1 Zane Lowe in the video below; the fash trash talk comes in towards the end but we’d recommend sitting through the whole thing. London Fashion Week SS14 Day 3 highlights

As always, the highlight of the day, nay, London Fashion Week as a whole, was the Mulberry show at the swanky Claridge’s hotel. We received a very sneaky preview of what to expect from the spring/summer 2014 collection via mood board (check it out here in case you missed it) so knew we were going to be in for a summery, floral treat. And the mood board certainly didn’t let us down! Emma Hill definitely made sure she went out with a bang wit her last collection at the helm of Mulberry. We even got a new, never-before-seen piece of arm candy too – the Kensal bag! This obviously won’t be the last you hear of that name, so watch this space! The Topshop Unique front row was probably the most star-studded of them all, with the likes of Kate Moss, Samantha Barks, Alexa Chung, Daisy Lowe and of course Miss Anna Wintour among the famous faces looking on adoringly at the new collection. The nineties were back with a vengeance if Topshop has anything to say about it, as are bare backs, loose-fitting tops and shorts, mirror-detailing (which was reflected – no pun intended – in the mirror invitations we received) and fun prints. Jourdan Dunn’s look above was definitely our highlight of the entire collection! Over at Kate Middleton fave Emilia Wickstead, block pastel colours were the obvious runaway theme in the collection; clean yet exaggerated cuts and silhouettes dominated. Another favourite of the Middleton family is Alice Temperley, who presented a show-stopping Temperley London spring/summer 2014 collection, which was reportedly inspired by a recent trip to Sicily. Regal, embroidery, crystal embellishments, structure, precision and intricate attention to detail – we wouldn’t expect anything less! Elsewhere in London, Mary Katrantzou presented another bright, colourful, intricate collection in her […]

The selfie-centred nation: Snap happy or plain crazy?

Hello, and welcome to the millionth conversation about turning the camera on yourself. The selfie really exploded this week, legitimising its existence by snapping up a place in the Beverly Hills equivalent for words, Oxford Dictionaries Online. Every person (and their shoe-clad pug) has discussed and dissected the art, and how to perfect it. (Thanks, Stylist magazine) OK, so we’re not going to tutor you on how to take one – unless you’ve been living in Transnistria, without your smartphone, and subsequently don’t understand the science behind applying filters, perfecting angles and getting the ideal ‘hotdog’ leg shot. But, instead, what we want to talk about is, whether, the suggestion for a “digital detox” is at all valid when we’re being bombarded with these addictive titbits into everyone’s lives. Instagram can be called upon as the main culprit for spearheading our obsession that little bit further, but Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook and endless Pinterest repins of pretty blogger/fashion bod figures are equally to blame. We’re not slating the selfie; it’s a satisfying feeling like no other, when you land a flattering, sun soaked shot that makes your body resemble Kendall Jenner’s (thanks, Earlybird and Sutro (Google them)). But more and more experts are telling us to “switch off”, “tune out” and effectively, take a technological self-cleanse, or a “digital detox” to stop our frazzled brains from burning out, and recovering some of that smartphone-free time we once cherished. Remember? Funny, though, the mixed messages we get about social media. Turn to print magazines and they tease you with snippets of information which lure you back to “tuning in.” Case in point: Voguestagrams. The fashion tome asked readers to post pictures of them with the hefty September issue, using #voguestagram. Aren’t we supposed to be losing ourselves in the magazine, instead of […]

Kate Upton lands David Yurman AW13 ad campaign

David Yurman went classic for its autumn/winter 2012 ad campaign. There’s no better word to describe the campaign star Gisele Bundchen. But fast forward one year and the concept couldn’t be more different. The newest autumn/winter 2013 ad campaign is out with the old and in with the new, as Gisele has been replaced by Kate Upton, the girl who is having a serious fashion moment this year! The former Sports Illustrated model was photographed by Peter Lindbergh, and can be seen writhing on a beach showcasing the stunning new-season jewellery that’s sitting pretty on her wrists. The second image is a lot more stripped back – but no less gorgeous. We knew the ad campaign offers would start rolling in as soon as she got Anna Wintour’s coveted seal of approval. We wonder what Kate’s next move will be… any guesses?

How Katy Perry prepped for her American Vogue cover shoot

If you thought Katy Perry’s American Vogue July cover was all down to good lighting, the right make-up and a lot of Photoshop, then you’d be mistaken. Apparently Miss Perry was so keen to please Anna Wintour and co that she went all-out in preparation for her debut fashion Bible cover. “I kind of went on a cleanse,” she told Jay Leno while being interviewed on his show. “I did a lot of stuff like vitamins and supplements and changed my coffee to green tea and I didn’t drink any alcohol for three months so I was really in the zone. I just wanted to be glowing for that cover.” And glowing she was! We hope Anna Wintour knew how much hard work Katy Perry put in so she can pencil her in for another fashion glossy cover in the near future. Next year’s September issue cover star, perhaps? Watch Katy admit all in the video below. http://youtu.be/1HoBo4aoJhk

Katy Perry romantic in Rodarte for her American Vogue debut!

Kate Upton isn’t the only woman to get her American Vogue cover debut this year, as Katy Perry has also been given the Anna Wintour seal of approval. Yep, Katy Perry is indeed fronting American Vogue’s July issue, and was photographed by none other than Annie Leibovitz. Katy is embracing her natural beauty on the cover shoot, as she is wearing a lot less make-up than we’re used to seeing (save for an essential pop of bright red lippie, obviously), and has swapped her glittery hotpants for a floral, romantic Rodarte dress instead. What a transformation! “Leaving pop novelty and broken hearts behind her, Katy Perry has grown into her formidable talent,” the mag teases on the website. More pictures from Katy’s shoot, as well as sneaky snippets from her interview, are due to be released tomorrow so make sure you head to Vogue‘s website to check them out in all their glory. What do you think of Katy’s American Vogue debut? Is it what you were expecting? Is it a pleasant surprise or were you expecting something more dramatic?

Kate Upton gets her Vogue US moment for June cover

Well what d’ya know, Kate Upton officially has the Anna Wintour seal of approval. The 20-year-old former Sports Illustrated model has cemented her status as a fashion glossy cover girl by appearing on the June issue of the one and only fashion Bible. And just five months after fronting the British Vogue January issue – 2013 is definitely her year! The very bronzed (and practically glowing) Kate was photographed by Mario Testino, and is showing some serious cleave and leg in a hot Dolce and Gabbana bodysuit – if we didn’t know any better, we would have thought that the image came straight from a Sports Illustrated page. We love the direction Anna Wintour took the shoot in – it’s fresh, it’s summery, and it shows Kate Upton in her finest form. No complaints over here – we hope Kate is just as chuffed with it as we are; no one would complain with the “hottest supermodel on earth” title!

Carey Mulligan in Prada for Harper’s Bazaar UK June

Anna Wintour really hit the nail on the head when she tapped Carey Mulligan for the American Vogue May cover, but the fashion Bible isn’t the only glossy to feature the gorgeous Great Gatsby star, oh no. Way across the pond, Harpers Bazaar UK has also enlisted the help of the blonde actress to help it shift copies, and we have a feeling the June issue might be one of the magazine’s most popular in years. Especially if the soft but powerful cover image is anything to go by. Carey is wearing a gorgeous, instantly recognisable Prada coat for the newsstand cover– and we have photographer Tom Lorenzo to thank for capturing her in such a beautiful light. We can’t wait to buy this issue and check out the editorial shots and read what she had to say to the mag. What do you guys think?

Kim Kardashian will attend Met Gala with Kanye West

Well, what have we here… Despite reportedly being banned from last year’s Met Gala by Anna Wintour herself, it looks like Kim Kardashian has blagged herself a hot ticket to the prestigious event next month – and she has boyfriend and baby daddy Kanye West to thank for it! “Kanye West and Kim Kardashian will both be attending the Met Gala in NYC on May 6,” a source allegedly told Life & Style. “Because Kanye is performing he was allowed to invite her.” Kim certainly is a lucky lady as we all know how hard it is to get an invite… remember last year Kate Upton forked out $25,000 for her ticket? It’s definitely going to be a tad awkward if the two ladies cross paths on the red carpet; let’s hope their people keep them away from each other until they bury the hatchet! Still, we’re glad Kimye will both be in attendance, and we wait with baited breath to discover what the expectant mummy will dress her baby bump in. No pressure, Kim! [Hollywood Life]
