pureDKNY Fragrance Launch, London

Last Updated on 30th January 2010 Shamefully it took me until the morning after to realise the significance of the venue chosen for the launch of pureDKNY. Earlier this month members of the beauty press gathered at exclusive club Vanilla in London’s Fitzrovia to get a whiff DKNYs first new fragrance in five long years. Yes that’s five years. Brand extensions from the Be Delicious range may have come and gone, but this is the only new line added in all that time.

Abercrombie to sue Beyonce over planned fragrance

Last Updated on 18th September 2009 A few days ago we reported that Beyonce had made plans to collaborate with Coty to produce a new perfume named after her stage alter-ego Sasha Fierce. Unfortunately, it seems the songstress’ plans have already been scuppered as Abercrombie and Fitch have revealed their intention to sue, claiming that they have owned the ‘Fierce’ Trademark since 2002 with a men’s fragrance sold under the same name.

Beyonce succumbs to the celebrity fragrance

Last Updated on 15th September 2009 Jennifer Lopez, Avril Lavigne, Christina Aguilera, Sarah Jessica Parker, Mariah Carey, Alex Curran. These ladies all have one thing in common, despite the fact that the mention of Alex Curran within this list of high profile celebs seems slightly wrong. Yes, they have all put their names to fragrances of course, and WWD have just revealed that Beyonce will be the next star to release her own scent. The popstar – who often refers to her stage alter ego, Sasha Fierce – teamed up with Coty, the company responsible for the celebrity fragrance launch that started the craze back in 2002: JLo’s Glow. While many assumed that the singer would follow in the footsteps of husband Jay-Z and sign a deal with Parlux Fragrances inc. Beyonce revealed that she didn’t rush into accepting a fragrance company to collaborate with: ‘For me, fragrance reflects a woman’s attitude and unique sense of style… while I love various perfumes, I haven’t found a scent that truly personifies me as a woman. Working with Coty I was able to turn my ideal fragrance into a reality by creating an alluring and sophisticated fragrance; one that’s refelective of my inner power.’ Beyonce’s timing however, is not the best, for NPD group have estimated that the average celebrity fragrance only generated around $2.5 million in 2008. Now, that definitely doesn’t sound like a profit to turn your nose up at but it is worth considering that sales have dropped dramatically since celebrity perfumes first hit the shelves. JLo must have been rubbing her hands in glee when Glow was launched, making $100 million worldwide in its first year! So. Another year, another celebrity fragrance. We love Beyonce, but we’re not sure what to make of this. We think we’ll reserve judgement until we can get a […]

Is Diane Von Furstenberg’s new fragrance making NY residents ill?

Last Updated on 2nd July 2009 Diane Von Furstenberg’s new perfume is reportedly making New York pedestrians feel unwell. One woman told the New York Post newspaper: “I literally got dizzy from this. It is putrid, awful, something you’d find on a 60-year-old matron. “She has got some nerve wafting this out of her store. There is a point at which these peoples’ egos and chutzpah absolutely begin to take over any sense of reality or consideration for other people.”

Faced with this, Hugo Fragrance is among the latest to turn to online video sites such as YouTube, where the time is virtually unlimited and they aren’t regulated by FDC decency standards. While the spot for their new scent, Hugo Human Nature (for XY and XX), doesn’t by any means stray into R-rated territory, there is plenty of innuendo. Perfume and cologne, after all, are all about being sexy and appealing to the gender of your choice.

Unisex vs Gendered skin products – What’s the difference and which is better?

Last Updated on 5th July 2022 Nowadays, there are a multitude of skin products available for those who want to cleanse and hydrate their pores. As we all know, there are a variety of skin types that can suffer from different issues, including dryness, flakiness, oiliness, and acne. When you look at the products available to soothe damaged skin, you may notice that there are unisex skin products and gendered skin products. So, which one of these products is right for you? Well, that’s what we are going to find out. Gendered skin products: Why should I use them? One of the biggest questions that people have about skin products, whether they are from Cellular Goods or a different brand, is about why they need to be gendered in the first place. Putting aside the particular packaging, fragrances, and brand titles, most of the time gendered skin products focus on the skin of men and women and how they each age through time.  As men’s skin is 25% thicker than women’s skin, this means that men are more prone to oily skin. The thickness of the skin is due to a higher amount of collagen. Therefore, it makes it more likely that it will actively produce more moisture over the years. Ultimately, the aging process will appear less dramatic than women when they hit menopause or until their oestrogen levels drop. Due to this explanation, you will find that men’s skin products focus on lowering the sebum levels in the skin. However, women’s skin products will focus on exfoliants and actively moisturising the skin. The downside of these products is that they may lack focus when it comes to your skin’s specific needs. However, if you are experiencing certain problems with your skin, such as dry skin after shaving your […]

Why Aren’t All Perfumes Vegan? And How to Make Sure Your Next One Is

Last Updated on 10th May 2022 You’d think that a cosmetic product like perfume is manufactured with natural, cruelty-free ingredients. Strangely enough, this is not always the case. It’s not always simple to find an appropriate scent if you don’t consume or use animal products. You might be excused for thinking that most perfume is a harmless mixture of alcohol and scent taken from plants and flowers. Regrettably, this is not always the case. It frequently contains an animal product or has been tested on animals. Many fragrances are not vegan because they contain animal-derived components, which would change the aroma characteristics that make them popular. Some perfume? is plainly labelled as vegan. If you can’t locate a vegan label, ?presume perfume isn’t for you. You might wonder why not every perfume is vegan. Because most fragrances contain some type of animal-derived component, which may or may not have been obtained through harsh means, the perfume’s vegan, animal-free classification is immediately revoked. Animal testing is a huge concern; finding businesses that do not test on animals in any form is much simpler now than it was previously, but this does not account for brands that use animal-derived materials in their scent. Finding cruelty-free and vegan cosmetic items doesn’t have to be difficult any longer; nevertheless, vegan perfume enthusiasts face a different situation. While you may be swamped with alternatives in terms of beauty and skincare if you visit a reputed luxury department store, you may discover that finding a vegan perfume is more difficult than you imagined. What Exactly is a Vegan Perfume? Vegan items, including perfume, are classified as those that include no animal-derived substances. Some fragrances, such as those containing honey or beeswax, are vegetarian, but they cannot be categorized as vegan because these components are sourced from […]

What makes niche perfumes so special?

Last Updated on 16th December 2021 The Egyptians already used scented water to influence their own body odour. And perfumes are still very popular today. With the help of a perfume, you make your own taste clear and reveal part of your personality. In addition, fragrances can attract attention or awaken memories. However, it is becoming apparent that consumers are increasingly shying away from standard perfumes and are looking for something special. After all, one wants to stand out from the crowd and leave a unique impression. For this reason, niche perfumes are becoming increasingly popular. What is behind the term and what constitutes this type of perfume, we clarify in the following article. What is niche perfume? The adjective “niche” is used to describe marginalized groups. If you now bring the word in connection with perfumes, it becomes clear that fragrances are meant that were not created for the masses. These scents are produced by small companies – such as Essenza Nobile – and are characterized by a very unusual note that is not often found. The aim is to appeal to people who do not go with the flow but like to stand out with something special.  How are niche perfumes made? Perfumes usually consist of a series of notes that harmonize with each other: Top, middle, and base. While the selection of the individual ingredients is a highly individual process, the production follows a specific procedure: Extraction The first step in perfume production is extraction. The coveted fragrance must first be pressed to capture the scent notes. Depending on the material, this work is sometimes more, sometimes less demanding.  Solvent extraction is probably the best-known extraction method. For this, the fruit, plant or flower is mixed with benzene or petroleum and put into rotating drums. This produces […]

8 Simple Ways to Make Your Skin Glow

Last Updated on 5th July 2022 Your life is built on a habit. From what you take in the morning to the side of the bed to lie on in the night, and such routines shape your days and body. Despite the term “habit” being viewed negatively, you also develop beneficial habits for your health and skin. The texture and look of your skin will be determined by several factors ranging from the diet you take to product choices and the habits you form. Here are simple habits that you can establish to help you maintain healthy and glowing skin. Read the Ingredients List Before Using a Product Quality ingredients make quality products, yet quite a few regulations limit the use of substandard ingredients globally, thus consuming a substandard product. It would help if you took care of the products you apply to your skin, and those that you consume should be made of the right ingredients since your skin is affected by what you eat. You can opt for products such as bovine collagen powder, which is made from inspiration from nature and offers unmatched quality and safety. Wash Your Face As you wash your face, any dirt, oil, or bacteria accumulated is removed, making your skin pores appear more prominent. Washing the face should be a habit as you wake up, before bed to remove any oil or makeup you applied during the day and after a heavy sweating work. You can always seek some gentle natural face wash made of organic ingredients and leave no harmful sulfates.  Get Enough Sleep Beauty sleep is not just a theory, and your body needs at least seven hours of restful sleep every night to repair, rejuvenate and restore. Enough sleep is likened to visiting your youth every night as your […]
