Read MoreReader Q&A: What is going to be the trend for sunglasses this season?
I have a question. What is going to be the trend for sunglasses this summer and early Fall? – Michael (June 2nd, 2008) Sunglasses are a funny thing in terms of trends because there are only so many ways to remodel a pair of spectacles. But, somehow, there is always some new utterly covetable style. The most obvious trend of the moment, for boys and girls, are the classic Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses. Not exactly new, they have been hanging around on countless celebrities long enough to be completely ubiquitous but somehow still desirable. Fairly universally flattering and understated (so long as you steer clear of the nu-rave coloured variety) you can pick up a pair to match any price range from ASOS right through to the original brand. One sunglasses trend that I know I will be embracing in some shape or form is tortoiseshell frames. Seen in every style from wayfarers to oversized, they remind me of dusty bookshelves, 60s film stars, hippies in Morocco and gin and tonics in the garden all at the same time. Karen Walker has some great chunky ones that look pretty good on boys and girls, while Topshop have countless tortoiseshell frames in more subtle styles. Head there, also, for some pretty great Hockney-esque round frames (different versions for different sexes) to wear with summer’s florals, to channel Paul Smith’s Hockney-meets-Bloomsbury group aesthetic. For more outlandish styles, round frames in general seem to be having a bit of a moment. Go for Dries van Noten-esque combination frames for an intellectual look that is far less faddy but still bang on trend (check ASOS for boys and girls). As a lifetime lover of all things Lolita, I must admit I am drawn to Topshop’s heart-shaped frames like a moth to an ill-advised flame although […]

Whomever coined the above phrase was seriously deluded. Granted, the frame choices of yore lacked much of the style that today’s glasses do, but eyeglasses can be seriously sexy. Gucci, Valentino, and now Marc Jacobs all have eyeglass frames for everyday wear that are as much of a personal style choice as what you put on your feet or wear out to an important event.
Read MoreReviews: The Meaning of Sunglasses by Hadley Freeman
I’ve had a review copy of fashion editor, Hadley Freeman’s new book for a while now but only just recently managed to sit down and have a proper read of the fashion bible that’s being dubbed an A-Z of fashion and style. It’s titled The Meaning of Sunglasses and in it, Freeman dissects everything fashion-related – from Topshop to low slung belts to drugs and of course sunglasses. No major trend, personality, or irony goes uncovered. For the fact that I can completely relate, my chosen topic had to be “Fashion shows”. Here’s a favourite quote, “Fashion journalists like to think that they are the most important people at the show and the sit on the sidelines like Roman emperors while the designer waits with bated breath to see if their manicured thumb will point up or down. They are disabused of this illusion when they are kept waiting for two hours……because front-row guest Tori Spelling hasn’t arrived yet.”

OK, so it’s been established that wearing sunglasses indoors is something only Bono or MJ (circa “Thriller) should be allowed to pull off…but what about sporting shades in the dead of winter? Recently, celebs seem to never leave home without their tinted spectacles firmly glued to their faces, no matter the temperature or wind chill. They do this partly to shield their rolling eyes from the blinding flashes of the paparazzi and, of course, to add an air of mysteriousness and that “je ne sais quoi. Lucky for them, their favourite designers, like Marni, Vivienne Westwood and D&G, all pushed their latest collections of Fall/Winter eyewear at shows and in fashion magazines.

Read MoreStylish Over 40 Fall Outfit Ideas You’ll Actually Love Wearing!
Fall is magic. The crisp air, the golden leaves, the promise of fresh starts… and yes, the clothes. If you’re over 40, your style isn’t about chasing every trend, it’s about knowing what works and having fun with it. You’ve lived, you’ve learned, and your wardrobe should reflect that confidence. You want pieces that feel good, look good, and move with your life, not against it. These outfit ideas are built for real life, with a touch of polish, a dash of personality, and a whole lot of style. Double denim and a chocolate brown trench? Yes, please. Denim on denim used to be a fashion “don’t”… until we all realized how fabulous it actually looks when done right. The trick is mixing textures and shades, think a soft chambray shirt tucked into mid-wash jeans. Now add the magic: a rich chocolate brown trench coat. Suddenly, this look goes from casual to chic without trying too hard. It’s effortlessly cool, like a walk through Paris in October. Throw on some ankle boots and carry a structured bag and you’ll feel unstoppable. Grey trousers, grey tee, and a shacket for cozy cool Grey tailored trousers give that crisp, grown-up vibe. A grey tee softens it up. Now add a shacket. You know, that shirt-jacket hybrid that feels like wearing a hug. It adds a little structure, a little edge, and a lot of warmth. This outfit is made for work-from-home days, casual catch-ups, or grabbing a coffee solo and savoring every sip. Burgundy cardigan + barrel jeans = fall perfection There’s something about burgundy in the fall that just works. It’s warm, rich, and makes everything feel cozy and put-together. Slip into a deep red or burgundy cardigan, chunky, cropped, or longline, whatever flatters your frame. Then, pair it with barrel […]
Read MoreWhat to Wear This Fall If You’re Over 50 and Want to Look Amazing
If you’re over 50 and wondering how to look stylish this fall without trying too hard (yes, that sweet spot does exist) then this guide is for you. It’s not about chasing trends or looking younger. It’s about showing up in outfits that feel like you… just a little more put-together, a little more polished. Flattering fit is better than trendy clothes How your clothes fit changes everything. You could wear the same exact outfit as someone else, but if your version is tailored to your shape and hers isn’t? You’ll look effortlessly chic, and she’ll look… well, like she’s drowning in fabric. So go for clothes that skim your body. Not clingy, not baggy. Think structured jackets that give you shape. Pants that hit the ankle just right. Tops that don’t bunch or stretch. The goal? Clothes that move with you, not against you. If you’re not sure where to start, visit a tailor and take in your favorite jeans, blazer, or even a simple button-up shirt. You’ll be amazed how custom-fit clothing transforms your look, suddenly everything just works. When shopping off the rack, try sitting, walking, and raising your arms in the piece. If you’re tugging or adjusting? Skip it. Color makes a bigger difference than you think When fall rolls around, black tends to take center stage. But if black is starting to feel a little harsh, you’re not imagining it. As we get older, our skin tone shifts slightly and certain colors can either brighten us up or wash us out completely. This season, try jewel tones like emerald green or deep sapphire. They’re bold, yes, but they’re also incredibly flattering. If you lean more classic, you can’t go wrong with soft neutrals like camel, navy, or ivory. Even a warm chocolate brown can feel […]

Turning 50 is just the beginning, especially when it comes to style! Forget any notion that “style” has an age limit. True style is about feeling fabulous in what you wear, no matter the number on your birthday cake. And here’s the best part: looking stylish over 50 is all about owning your confidence and embracing pieces that make you feel incredible. Mow’s the time to wear what you love, not what trends dictate. Your style has evolved, and so have you! This isn’t about dressing “young” or “playing it safe.” It’s about showcasing your unique, refined taste with a touch of boldness. With the right tips and a few key pieces, you can discover just how stylish 50 and fabulous can be! How To Look Stylish Over 50 1. Don’t Follow Trends Blindly Trends? Sure, they’re fun. But remember, you don’t have to follow every single one. Stick with what resonates with your unique style and personality. If a trend excites you, give it a try—but only if it truly feels you. 2. Define Your Style Words Take a moment to think: what three words capture your ideal look? Chic? Effortless? Elegant? Once you’ve defined them, you’ll have a personal style compass to guide your choices. Every piece in your wardrobe should echo these words! 3. Prioritize Fit Fit is EVERYTHING. Forget oversized or too-tight clothes, they rarely do anyone any favors. Instead, go for pieces that sit beautifully on your frame. The difference? Night and day! 4. Invest in Tailoring A little nip and tuck in the right places can elevate your outfit from “meh” to marvelous. Tailoring takes even the simplest pieces and gives them a polished, custom feel. If you’re not already friends with a good tailor, it’s time to find one! 5. Select Flattering Colors […]

How To Create Stylish Fall Outfits That Won’t Break The Bank… Start with what you already own Before you even think about shopping, raid your own closet. Seriously, pull everything out. The coats, the scarves, the jeans you forgot you had. You’ll be shocked at how many forgotten gems are hiding in there just waiting to be styled differently. That chunky knit sweater from two years ago? Still a winner. The trench you’ve worn on repeat? Toss a belt on it, and suddenly it looks brand new. Sometimes the most stylish looks are just old pieces worn in new ways. And you know what’s even better? It costs zero. Take your basics like that white tee, those black trousers, your old pair of Chelsea boots and start experimenting. Can you layer that tee under a slip dress? Can those trousers be cuffed at the ankle and worn with sneakers for a relaxed look? Try pairing things you wouldn’t normally. Add a bold lip to a casual outfit. Throw a shearling jacket over something unexpected. A fresh eye and a bit of playfulness go a long way. Also, don’t forget your accessories drawer. That random gold chain necklace or leopard-print belt you haven’t worn in ages? It might be exactly what your outfit needs to feel new again. Read MoreWhat To Wear In Summer When You’re Over 50 And Want To Stay Stylish?
Dressing for summer when you’re over 50 can be… complicated. You want to stay cool, but you also want to look chic. So what do you wear when you’re in your fifties (and fabulous) and want to feel stylish all summer long? You lean into your confidence. You focus on what flatters. You skip the trends that make you feel silly and embrace the ones that make you feel alive. This is your summer style glow-up… and it’s going to feel GOOD. Start with the pieces that work every time GET THE LOOK You don’t need a huge wardrobe. What you need are those high-quality basics that make getting dressed feel easy. Think cotton poplin shirts that drape just right. Crisp white tees that hold their shape. Linen trousers that move with you, not against you. And fabric? It matters. Find those basics that feel like you… and build from there. A few more ideas to round out your essentials: A tank top with thicker straps that hides your bra. A lightweight chambray shirt you can tie at the waist or leave open over a dress. A pair of white jeans (yes, even over 50!) in a straight-leg or cropped cut. Read More9 Style Rules Every Woman Over 50 Should Break
Style rules are meant to be broken. Especially the ones society tries to force on women over 50. If you’ve ever felt boxed in by silly fashion guidelines, it’s time to shake them off. You’ve lived, you’ve learned, and now you deserve to wear whatever makes you feel alive, chic, and unstoppable. Fashion isn’t about age. It’s about confidence. And confidence comes from wearing what you love. So let’s talk about those outdated rules… and why you should toss them right out the window! 1. Don’t Wear Bold Colors Some people say women over 50 should stick to muted tones and neutrals. WHY? Who decided bold colors have an expiration date? Bright pink, electric blue, vibrant red — these shades light up your skin, make you look fresher, and show the world you’re full of energy. Wearing bold colors isn’t just about fashion. It’s about attitude. The next time you’re drawn to a striking shade, wear it. Watch how many compliments roll in! Life’s too short for boring beige. And if bold clothing feels too much, start small. Add a bright scarf, a colorful handbag, or a pair of statement shoes. Before you know it, you’ll crave that pop of color. It wakes up your wardrobe and, honestly, your spirit. 2. Avoid Trendy Pieces There’s this idea floating around that trends are only for the younger crowd. Oh, please. If anything, they’re for the women who know exactly who they are and want to have fun with fashion. You don’t need to jump on every trend. But when something catches your eye — oversized blazers, wide-leg jeans, or chunky chain necklaces — try it! Style is supposed to be playful. And guess what? You can absolutely rock a pair of barrel jeans and still look classy. Trust your instincts. Trends […]

I love Disney World. The excitement…the rides, the snacks, the parades…and the photos you’ll treasure forever. I love it all. But, figuring out what to wear can feel like a mission in itself. You want to look cute, stay comfy, and be ready for whatever Florida’s wild weather throws your way. After a few trips (and some rookie mistakes), I’ve put together EVERYTHING you need to know about what to wear to Disney World so you can focus on the magic and not on tugging at uncomfortable clothes. Start with Comfy Clothes I can’t stress this enough. You’ll be walking. A lot. Think athletic-style pants, soft joggers, or shorts with a bit of stretch. Those jeans you love? Leave them at home. They’re just not cut out for hours of walking, especially in the Florida heat. Lightweight shorts and flowy skirts are lifesavers. Bonus points if they’ve got pockets! If you do wear jeans, opt for baggy jeans that are roomy and comfy. And make sure your waistbands are flexible! No one wants to be stuck adjusting their clothes between rides. Also, soft T-shirts that breathe and don’t cling are a dream. Layer Up Florida weather loves to keep you guessing. One minute, it’s sunny and blazing. The next, there’s a breeze or a passing shower. Pack lightweight layers — think cardigans, zip-up hoodies, or a soft jacket you can tie around your waist. You’ll be cozy when the temperature dips, especially in the evenings. Plus, indoor attractions can get chilly with the air conditioning, so having something to throw on is a game changer. Lightweight denim jackets also add that cute touch without adding bulk. Disney Themed Fun Add some Disney magic to your outfits! A Mickey tee, Minnie ears, or a cute Disney backpack brings fun to your […]

It’s really all about having the right pieces and knowing exactly how to put them together. So, whether you’re heading to brunch, the beach, or a night out, I’ve some great tips and summer outfit ideas that’ll have you feeling cool, confident, and put-together — with zero guesswork. Start With What You Actually Wear Open your closet and take a good, honest look. What pieces do you wear again and again? Maybe it’s that floaty white dress that makes you feel like you’re on vacation. Or those worn-in denim shorts that fit like they were made for you. There’s a reason you gravitate toward these items. So start there! Build your summer wardrobe around these key pieces. Instead of chasing after what everyone else is wearing, ask yourself: What do I love wearing? What makes me feel comfortable, chic, and like the very best version of myself? Once you’ve identified those staples, make them the foundation of your summer outfits. Suddenly, everything becomes easier. Add One Piece That Feels Exciting Summer is the perfect time to play. But that doesn’t mean you need to go wild. Let’s get into the best ways to style ballet flats so you can look polished, modern, and seriously chic! Pair Them with a Trench Coat for Instant Elegance Nothing says effortless style quite like a classic trench coat. When you throw one over a pair of wide-leg jeans and ballet flats, you get that perfectly polished, slightly mysterious vibe—like you just stepped off a Parisian street. It’s the easiest way to look put-together without even trying. For a modern touch, go for a cropped trench that hits just at the waist, adding structure while letting your flats take center stage. A belted trench coat will also define your silhouette beautifully, making the whole look feel even more refined. Want to go full-on Old Money? If you’ve been avoiding shorts because they feel too casual, too young, or just… not stylish enough, I get it. But here’s the truth—it’s not the shorts, it’s how you style them. With the right pieces, shorts can be effortlessly chic, insanely flattering, and even work for dressier occasions. Yes, really! So if you’ve been side-eyeing shorts, unsure if they’re right for you, don’t worry. I’ve put together styling tricks and outfit ideas that’ll completely change the way you see them. Find the Sweet Spot for Length Shorts are NOT one-size-fits-all. The trick is finding a length that flatters YOUR body. If you’re on the taller side, longer styles that hit mid-thigh or just above the knee will create a balanced look. Petite? A shorter hemline will make your legs look miles long. And if you’re somewhere in between? Bermuda shorts, tailored cuts, or a classic mid-thigh length are all winners. A great trick to test the right length? Stand straight and let your arms hang naturally. If the hem of your shorts lines up with your fingertips, you’ve got a universally flattering length! But rules are made to be broken—so try on a few styles and see what works for YOU. You want shorts that breathe, move, and feel GOOD Ditch fabrics that are too stiff or clingy. Linen and cotton? PERFECTION for warm weather. Denim? A timeless choice. And silk or leather? Oh, you fancy, huh? These luxe fabrics are perfect for dressing up shorts for a night out. One fabric mistake to avoid? Anything too sheer or unlined. Always do a natural light check before heading out—nobody wants to realize their shorts are see-through when they’re already outside! It’s All About Balance A golden rule of styling: if your shorts are fitted, go for a looser top. […]
Read MoreWhat To Wear To The Races? Must-Know Tips & Race Day Outfit Ideas
Heading to the races? Get ready, because this isn’t just any day out—it’s the perfect excuse to go all-out with your fashion game. Whether you’re planning to strut your stuff at the Kentucky Derby, sip champagne at Royal Ascot, or brace the chill at Cheltenham, one thing’s for sure: Your outfit matters just as much as the horses. This is your chance to dress to impress, channeling elegance and sophistication while still having fun with your look. But with all the traditions and dress codes surrounding race-day fashion, where do you even start? Before you start shopping, let’s break down everything you need to know to dress like a seasoned race-day pro. 1. Always Check the Dress Code First I know, I know—it’s tempting to dive straight into outfit planning, but every major racing event has its own set of rules. At Royal Ascot, for instance, the dress code is famously strict, requiring formal dresses, hats, and absolutely no spaghetti straps if you’re stepping into the Royal Enclosure. The Kentucky Derby is a little more playful, encouraging bold, spring-inspired outfits, complete with floral prints and larger-than-life fascinators. Meanwhile, Cheltenham calls for practicality with a stylish twist, favoring tweed and countryside-inspired attire. Ignoring the dress code isn’t just a fashion faux pas—it could mean being refused entry at certain enclosures, which is the last thing you want after carefully curating your outfit. To avoid last-minute stress, visit the event’s official website and familiarize yourself with the guidelines. Some enclosures require dresses to be a certain length, some ban jumpsuits, and others insist on specific hat styles. Knowing the rules ahead of time will save you from outfit mishaps and ensure you look effortlessly appropriate for the occasion. 2. Dress for the Season The season plays a huge role in determining what […]

Read MoreYou Won’t Believe How Easy It Is To Style Barrel Jeans For Spring (AND Summer)
Let me just start by saying: I’m obsessed with barrel jeans. They’re comfy and effortlessly cool. But styling them can sometimes feel like a puzzle. You know, the kind where you’re staring at your closet thinking, “Is this fashion-forward or just… confusing?” If you’ve ever had that moment of doubt while trying to style these wide-legged wonders, worry not. I’ve put together some great spring/summer barrel jean outfit inspo along with some great tips for styling them for the warmer months! 1. Keep It Simple with a Fitted Top Barrel jeans are all about volume, so the easiest way to balance their loose, wide-leg silhouette is by pairing them with a fitted top. Think a sleek bodysuit. The snug fit of the top creates a flattering contrast, emphasizing your waist and giving you that hourglass shape. If you’re going for a casual look, try a ribbed tank or a plain white baby tee tucked into your high-waisted barrel jeans. Add some heeled sandals, and you’ve got an outfit that’s simple yet chic. If you’re worried about proportions, stick to cropped or tucked-in tops. Leaving your top untucked can make the outfit look bulky and take away from the flattering shape of the jeans. 2.Add Some Structure with a Blazer If you’re looking to smarten up your barrel jeans, a structured blazer is your secret weapon. The tailored fit of the blazer adds polish to the relaxed vibe of the jeans, creating a look that’s equal parts casual and sophisticated. For a classic spring outfit, pair your jeans with a neutral blazer—think beige, camel, or even a soft pastel. Brown suede jackets are still a major trend. Opt for a brown suede jacket for a more on trend look. Underneath, keep it simple with a fitted tank or tee. Want to […]
