MTV Movie Awards 2013: The best dressed!

While Rita Ora, Katy Perry, Diane Kruger and more lovely ladies were swanning around the Coachella Festival showcasing their effortless style credentials at the weekend, a host of some of our other fave celebs strutted their stuff along the red carpet for this year’s MTV Movie Awards. Rising stars like Chloe Moretz and Bella Thorne, in-demand catwalk modes like Karlie Kloss, and general legendary icons such as Kylie Minogue were all lending their support to the awards ceremony, while looking gorgeous in the process. Selena Gomez was easily one of our best-dressed ladies as she literally dazzled on the red carpet in a gold, sparkly Julien Macdonald dress. We were also pretty keen on Chloe Moretz’s Louis Vuitton attire, as it just goes to show that you don’t have to wear a full-on gown to turn heads for the right reasons. Take a look at our top 10 best-dressed, and don’t forget to vote for your favourite at the bottom! Selena Gomez in Julien Macdonald Chloe Moretz in Louis Vuitton Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Bella Thorne in Emporio Armani Emma Watson in Maxime Simoëns Kylie Minogue in Paco Rabanne Kerry Washington in Michael Kors Holland Roden in Donna Karan Karlie Kloss in Cushnie et Ochs Ashley  Rickards in Armani  [poll id-“398”]

Beauty in Blue, Kirsten Dunst scoops Best Dressed of the Week

Ah, there’s just something so exciting about landing our peepers on a cobalt blue dress! Kirsten Dunst radiated Oscar-worthy style at the LA premiere of Bachelorette, in a cobalt blue, Resort 2013 Jean Paul Gaultier trench maxi dress. Oh, the double-breast detailing and belted waist had us at hello! Opting for luscious, voluminous tresses; Kirsten stuck with a neutral palette on her face, adding a slick of dusky pink lipstick and lashings of mascara – we love! Accessories topped the fash stakes, too, as Kirsten wore her Gaultier dress with the ‘Elsie’ shoulder bag by Chloé, a Jennifer Mayer necklace and an all time classic Rolex timepiece. A refreshing look on the red carpet; this could’ve turned out to be a pretty boring ensemble minus the detailing, but can we really expect boring from fashion’s enfant terrible Gaultier?

Cannes 2011: best dressed (pt 2)

We may be springing back in action after a weekend’s break, but there’s no rest for the wicked on the red carpet. Far from sunning themselves on the sand, Cannes Film Festival is still in full swing, and in case you haven’t been paying attention over the past two days, there’s more than your fair share of gorgeous gowns to catch up on. We’ve picked our favourite from the weekend’s glam ceremonies in part two of our best dressed guide. See the stars that made the cut in Cannes below…   Clemence Poesy (x2) The chic French actress Clemence Posey attended the Pirates of the Caribbean premiere in this stunning sky blue dress. The colour looked lovely against her porcelain skin, the cut flattered her fabulous figure and the teal peep-toes completed the look perfectly – ethereal yet modern. Later, at Calvin Klein’s Women in Cannes party, Clemence proved her versatility and showed she can pull off short and sexy just as well. Wearing Calvin Klein (naturally), she switched up her style with this white shift dress, strappy sandals and big curly hair. Penelope Cruz (x2) Penelope Cruz chose a sexy figure-hugging midnight blue Stella McCartney dress for the Pirates of the Caribbean photocall. The colour is beautiful on her and we love the matching courts. With a figure and a head of hair that fabulous, she kept her jewellery to a minimum. Gorgeous.   Later in the day for the premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean , the Spanish actress upped the ante in Marchesa. Flaunting her famous curvy figure, the intricate mix of delicate lilac tulle, heavy embellishment and ruffles made for a pretty perfect look for Penelope. Elizabeth Olsen If this actress doesn’t look familiar to you, she will soon. Sister to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Elizabeth is a rising star in Hollywood, and at the Martha Mary May Marlene photocall, she showed serious loyalty to her sisters by wearing […]

Who wore it best? Vanessa Hudgens vs Jamie King in Blu Moon’s leopard print maxi

Unleashing their inner animal with fashion’s favourite all-round print, Vanessa Hudgens and Jamie Chung lead a roaring battle to secure their rightful place as Queen of the (Hollywood) Jungle when they both donned a floor skimming, summer lovin’ maxi dress by Blu Moon – with two strikingly different results. In signature boho style, Vanessa pared the vivid print down, teaming her maxi with a slouch shoulder bag, statement necklace and stacks of bangles. A radiantly bronzed face with neutral lips, the High School Musical star fashioned a sexy, summery vibe as she arrived at Boa Steakhouse in West Hollywood to celebrate friend and actress Brittany Snow’s 25th birthday last month. But back in January, Jamie Chung had already beaten her to it, looking every inch the striking leopardess as she arrived at the premiere of New Films Cinema Burning Palms at the Arclight Hollywood in L.A.  Opting for pure red carpet glamour, the Sucker Punch star sported dewy make-up, complete with sumptuous red lips and 40’s glossy waves. Accessorising perfectly with a simple, contrasting long necklace, we’re just not sure about the black pointed shoes peeping through. Who wins Queen of the Jungle in this roaring fashion face-off? Kylie Bisutti at Maxim’s Hot 100 Party

We’re not usually ones for ogling less-than-dressed gorgeous girls, but put the gorgeous girl in a gorgeous dress and we’re there with you. Last night saw Maxim’s 11th annual hot 100 party in LA, and the hot 100 were indeed out in force. There was a theme: short and tight, not official, but we did spot lots of cleavage squeezed into a lot of tight dresses. Most notably ex-pussy cat doll Nicole Scherzinger (#24), Kanye’s ex Amber Rose (didn’t rank), and a very strange creature going by the name of Tila Tequila (didn’t rank), who she spent a considerable amount of time writhing on the floor (in a bid to be sexy we assume.) There were a few highlights of the night, particularly in the form of very gorgeous Iron Man 2 actress, Olivia Munn (#8) who wore a form fitting- but not obscene- black lace detail dress with a tousled bob and obligatory nude Louboutins. Also managing to tick both the male and female appreciation boxes was 85th ranked Kylie Bisutti, who wore a figure enhancing gold Super Trash dress. Aside from the less than helpful name of the label, Kylie’s dress actually makes her look quite classy compared to most of the attendees. The clever panel at the front accentuates her already hourglass curves and the pale gold tone of the dress gives the look an on-trend feel. It looks like Kylie may just be on her way up the top 100 list as she’s set to appear in the August issue of Maxim after first shooting with the magazine back in March. We think the dress may have bumped her up a few places already in time for next year…

The Shirt Dress

My current obsession? Shirt dresses. If smocks make you well…. appear to be in the early stages of pregnancy and the maxi dress defeats the purpose of showing off your stunning legs…then the shirt dress is a fantastic alternative. In extremely hot temperatures the light weight fabric and short hemline proves to be practically life saving. Different interpretations compliment various body shapes. For those that are blessed with a lean trim figure opt for a more fitted style such as this Kimberly shirt dress by Elie Tahari, $398. If you want to draw attention away from the mid region then go for an oversized version…..think Carrie in that iconic Sex and the City episode when she leaves Big’s home in his shirt and belt. Trust me it’s a perfect ensemble when looking for an outfit to cover up certain areas. Intermix also has a varied selection of this summer staple and Gap has a roll up sleeve shirtdress on sale at $14.99 down from $59.50 that is perfect for casual day wear…..but be warned its selling fast!

7 Tips For Adding Accessories To Your Outfits

When it comes to personal style, accessories are the secret weapons that can make or break an outfit. Even the simplest jeans and t-shirt combo can look infinitely more polished with an eye-catching necklace or stack of bangles. On the flip side, the wrong accessories overwhelm an outfit and leave you looking mismatched. Finding the perfect accessories to complement your look is an art. Where do you even begin to pull together a cohesive accessorized outfit? Do you opt for a bold statement piece or minimal accents? How do you keep accessories from competing or blending together? There’s a fine line between just enough and too much when it comes to accessorizing. If you struggle with how to accessorize outfits, worry not! The good news is accessorizing becomes much easier once you understand a few basic principles. Follow these 7 tips to seamlessly add the perfect accessories to all your outfits. 1. Less is More When in doubt, opt for minimal accessories. Just one or two well-chosen accessories can elevate an outfit without overpowering it. Stick to one statement accessory as the focal point, such as a bold necklace, large hoop earrings or an eye-catching handbag. Compliment your statement piece with a simple accessory like small stud earrings or a delicate bracelet. Too many accessories compete for attention and look cluttered. 2. Mix and Match Textures Play around mixing different textures like leather, metal, wood and fabric. Contrasting textures make accessories more interesting. For example, pair a metallic handbag with a soft knit scarf. Or team the oversized yet popular Carrera sunglasses at 1001 Optometry with a fitted button-up and slacks Experiment with combining mattes and shines too. A shiny metal watch looks chic with a matte leather tote bag. Mixing up textures prevents accessories from blending together. 3. Pay […]

Unlock Centuries Of Effortless Chic With A French Beret

From its humble beginnings as a farmer’s hat, the beret has become a true symbol of French sophistication. This stylish hat will never go out of fashion and is the perfect way to add some va-va-voom to any outfit. Whether you’re strutting through the city streets or taking a countryside break, add some true je ne sais quoi to your look with a beret. From a farmer’s hat to Parisian cool The story of the French beret begins in the rugged mountains of the Basque Country. Locals adopted the hat for its practical qualities rather than as a fashion statement. Warm and cosy, the beret was the perfect choice for outdoor wear. It was traditionally made from wool, which made it ideal for the rainy Basque weather. Shepherds, fishermen and other outdoor workers reached for their berets each morning as they headed out to work. At first, berets were always made by hand, but in the early 19th century, hat factories developed mass production techniques. Soon, the beret had gone beyond its Basque roots, becoming popular across France. It was seen as a symbol of the working classes, and workers all over the country proudly added it to their everyday outfits. Many artists fell in love with the beret. Monet, Cezanne and Picasso were among those who adopted the humble hat, so by the 1920s, it had become closely linked with the world of art. Now infused with a hip bohemian edge, the beret became beloved by trendy Parisians. In time, it would also become a standard military cap worn by soldiers all over the world. How to rock a beret in the 21st century Don’t want to look like an artist or a soldier? Fear not. The French beret has an element of timeless chic that works with all […]

5 Must-Have Fall Fashion Staples

As summer winds down and we begin to put our tank tops and shorts away, it’s time to evaluate our fall fashion staples. From boots to outerwear, the following five must-have fall staples are ones you need to keep in your closet. 1. Wool Blazers Nothing says fall more than a stylish wool blazer. You can wear a hip-length tweed blazer made of soft wool with jeans, a turtleneck cashmere sweater, and straight-leg jeans tucked into tall boots for a classic country fall look.  For tall women, wearing a wool blazer with a shorter hemline that hits just above the hips can help to create a lean look. Pair this style of wool blazer with a wool skirt that falls just above the knees with short ankle boots for an elegant ensemble. 2. Boots You can’t have enough styles of boots for fall. You’ll need ankle boots to pair with jeans, leggings, and short dresses; tall boots to wear with knee-length A-line skirts and straight-leg jeans; and combat-inspired boots to wear with maxi dresses and black jeans.  If you’re a tall woman, stick to small square-heeled boots, ones with a kitten heel, or flat-soled boots so that you don’t add extra height to your tall frame. 3. Sweaters Sweaters define fall fashion. You’ll want several styles of sweaters in your wardrobe, from casual cotton pullovers to classy cashmere cardigans. When choosing sweaters for your fall collection, look for bright colors for fun fall events and neutral-colored ones for more upscale gatherings.  If you have a tall frame, look for sweaters with the proper sleeve length and aren’t too boxy unless you’re going for an urban chic look. 4. Dark Jeans You want to have dark jeans in colors such as black, indigo, or dark gray as part of your fall […]
