5 Tips To Find The Perfect Eyebrow Shape For Your Face

Everyone knows that perfectly arched eyebrows are the way to go for a polished look, but finding the perfect shape for your specific face can feel like an impossible mission! Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered! We’ve got five incredible tips for finding out exactly what eyebrow shape will accentuate and bring balance to your features. Whether you’re looking for something bold, subtle, or somewhere in between, these simple steps will help you achieve your perfect look. 1. Know What Brow Shape for Your Face Type Take a good look at your face in the mirror. Identify the basic proportions of your facial structure—such as its width, length, and symmetry—as this will give you an idea of what kind of eyebrows will suit you best. Heart-Shaped Face Heart-shaped faces are beautiful and unique, but it can be tricky to find the natural eyebrow shape to flatter their distinct features. To bring out your heart-shaped face’s natural beauty, look no further than the soft arch. This eyebrow shape is ideal for highlighting your facial features and helping to soften any pointed angles. For an extra touch, go with a fuller eyebrow that embraces the length of your brow bone and balances the shape of your face – although be careful not to overdo it! Precision goes a long way when choosing the perfect eyebrow shape for anyone with a heart-shaped face like Naomi Campbell. Round Face When it comes to round faces, Chrissy Teigen and Cameron Diaz are the obvious candidates to look to for brow inspiration. No matter who you’re channelling, a sharp and high arch should be your goal when shaping perfect eyebrows for a round face. Design that arch as high as you can – maybe even higher than you think – without looking too harsh or […]

1990’s Fashion: Sports and Heroin Chic

Heroin chic is a trend in fashion that is based on sickness, dark circles under the eyes, exhaustion, and other signs of drug use. It originated in the early ‘90s and mainly in the United States, when heroin use became popular in wide circles, due to the decline in its market value. In the ’90s, it wasn’t about body awareness and healthy habits — half of all Americans smoked on a regular basis, the opioid epidemic was at its peak, nobody would go get treatment at rehab by choice.  At this time, a huge number of films on this topic appeared. You definitely watched or heard of such movies as Trainspotting, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Basketball Diaries, and Pulp Fiction, which have become iconic.  So, let’s figure out why after the ‘80s, when Princess Diana and Brooke Shields were style icons, everything changed dramatically and the trend was a slender physique and unkempt. How heroin chic appeared It all started with British photographer Corinne Day, or rather with her photo shooting with Kate Moss called The 3rd Summer of Love. It is important to understand that these photographs glorified the future photo model, giving a powerful impetus to the development of her career.  At that time, Kate was only 15 years old, but that did not stop Day from filming her half-naked with a cigarette in her hands. These photos instantly spread throughout the fashion community, appearing on the covers of many glossy magazines, including The Face. At this time, for the first time, the term Heroin Chic began to be used, which would later be closely associated with grunge and anti-glamor. After a few years, this direction begins to grow stronger, more and more photo shootings and advertising campaigns are being carried out in this style. […]

Influencer Miroslava Duma and Designer Ulyana Sergeenko Face Backlash Over Use Of Racial Slur

Both co-founder of Buro 24/7 Miroslava Duma and designer Ulyana Sergeenko are under fire over their nonchalent use of the word “n***ga.  The backlash began when Duma, 32 shared an image to her Instastory of a bouquet of flowers sent to her from designer Sergeenko, 36 accompanied by a card saying “’To my n****s in Paris’”. Apparently referencing the designer’s favourite song by Kanye and Jay-Z of a similar name, both ladies have faced intense criticism by industry insiders including Naomi Campbell and Bryan Boy. Moreover The Tot, a parenting brand co-founded by Duma, has since removed the street style star from its board. Sergeenko has issued an apology via Instagram explaining that she along with her friends use the racial slur when they “want to believe that we are just as cool as these guys who sing it.” While Duma also expressed regret on Instagram stating, “I deeply respect people from all backgrounds and detest racism or discrimination of any kind.” However, some could argue that Duma should know better especially having found herself caught in racial controversy in 2014 after featuring an image on her website Buro 24/7 of Russian socialite Dasha Zhukova seated on a chair depicting a black female woman in bondage.   We have to admit, we can’t fathom what either party involved was thinking in this situation. On a positive note we can only hope that the aftermath of this will result in a step forward being taken to unearth and eliminate racism in the fashion industry.

Kate Moss lands yet another TV gig

We think Kate Moss has caught the small-screen bug! Fresh from appearing in a Gogglebox celebrity special with best pals Naomi Campbell and Noel Gallagher, the supermodel has bagged a role in BBC1’s The Boy In The Dress – a TV adaptation of David Walliams’s best-selling children’s book. We don’t think Mossy will need to take acting lessons to help her get into character though, as she will actually be playing herself during a supermodel dream sequence. A 12-year-odld boy dreaming about a hot supermodel? Sounds about right! We thoroughly enjoyed Kate’s cameo in Absolutely Fabulous back in 2012, so this TV appearance is long overdue. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, she definitely could hack it as a comedy actress if the modelling offers every dry up. The Boy In The Dress is due to air on BBC1 at Christmas. We’re excited! [Marie Claire]

Milan Fashion Week SS15 highlights from Dolce and Gabbana, Emilio Pucci, Giorgio Armani and more!

The past few days have seen some of the biggest and memorable shows take place, with the likes of Dolce and Gabbana, Emilio Pucci, Roberto Cavalli and Giorgio Armani proving particularly powerful. There was a definite matador theme running through the entire catwalk show, with red and black being the prominent colours throughout. Some of the biggest and most in-demand models could be found on the Emilio Pucci catwalk – from Naomi Campbell to Joan Smalls and Kendall Jenner – they were all there strutting their stuff in Peter Dundas’s floaty explosion-of-colour creations. Our Top 5 Fashion Photographers

In this social media world where everyone over the age of eight has a smartphone with a camera and in which street style fans are obsessed with finding the perfect lens to capture those great shots, it seems like everyone is a ‘photographer’. But they have a long way to go to reach the heights of the true fashion photography greats. Here’s a list of our five fave photographers in the biz, and the things we love about them: Mario Testino Probably one of the most famous, successful, respected and wealthy photographers in the world – and that isn’t just a coincidence! Why else would the Peruvian economics graduate be trusted with photographing the Royal family time and time again? He shot the late Princess Diana for Vanity Fair back in 1997, and more recently he caught Prince William and Kate Middleton’s engagement on camera for the world to see too. He’s also Anna Wintour and Christopher Bailey’s go-to man when it comes to those respective Vogue cover shoots and Burberry ad campaigns, although those aren’t the only things he spend his time on. Over the years, it’s no exaggeration to say that he just might have shot the majority of the celebrity world, with some of the people posing for his camera including Lady Gaga, Naomi Campbell, Cara Delevingne, Gisele, and so many more. What a pro!   Annie Leibovitz Another American Vogue/Anna Wintour favourite – although Annie Leibovitz hasn’t always just been photographing the stars for the biggest fashion glossy in the world. We love the photographer for her infamously controversial pictures including the John Lennon and Yoko Ono nude embrace shot, Angelina Jolie naked in the bath tub (pictured above), and a pregnant (and of course, nude) Demi Moore on the cover of Vanity Fair. And somewhat […]

Rihanna goes tribal for W September issue

We were wondering when a Rihanna September issue cover was going to emerge this year. Well, we can wonder no more as the W September cover has just been unveiled, and it features our favourite Bajan pop princess as we’ve never seen her before. Rihanna is posing nude (standard) with nothing but a chunky tribal inspired necklace to protect her modesty on the cover, with the rest of the photos in the accompanying shoot also going down the wild and tribal route. She’s even surrounded by wolves in one of the pictures – it doesn’t get much wilder than that! “I got the vibe that it was slightly animalistic, but also could be interpreted as tribal or survivalist – definitely somebody using their environment as part of their style,” make-up artist Kabuki said. “I did the makeup like it was an abstract painting. “She doesn’t need crazy makeup to be interesting. But if you do something strong on her, it’s not going to overwhelm her. She’s going to own it.” And own it she most certainly did; these are some of the finest, wildest, fiercest pics we think we’ve ever seen of Rihanna. Will anything top it? It’s going to be tough but then again this is Rihanna we are talking about… You can see the rest of Ri-Ri’s wild photoshoot in the W September issue, which also includes pics of her posing with icons Naomi Campbell and Iman. Not to be missed!

Kate Moss “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels” T-shirt causes controversy

Kate Moss doesn’t say much, especially when we compare her to outspoken model pal Naomi Campbell… and we think we know the reason why. She famously uttered the controversial words “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels” during an interview with WWD back in 2009, which we bet she wishes she didn’t; especially now that her words have got some more people in trouble! Yep, Canadian retailer Hudson’s Bay Company has decided to emblazon the quote on a T-shirt – designed by Christopher Lee Sauve – which has consequently landed them in a spot of bother. More than a spot actually, as it’s now being pulled from the shelves following a series of complaints. “We truly value our relationship with our customers and take their concerns seriously and we recognise that many took offence to the item,” the company said in a statement. “In this particular instance, while we respect the designer’s art, due to the overwhelming response and the sensitivity of the matter, we made the decision to promptly remove the T-shirts from our stores and from thebay.com.” And speaking of the designer, what did Christopher Lee Sauve have to say on the matter? “Fashion is created to be either celebrated, adored, or hated and deplored, quite like the industry itself. The particular T-shirt in question showcases an infamous quote by supermodel Kate Moss as a nutrition label – most, if not all, of my designs showcase some type of statement pointing out the absurdity of fashion, and this one item is no exception/ “I fully understand and comprehend the severity of an eating disorder and I do not condone celebrating such pain. My sincerest apologies to anyone that I have offended with my designs. I believe wholeheartedly in my work, however, and I can’t apologise for that.” Interesting. […]

Which fashion names made the Forbes 100 Most Powerful Women list?

A few weeks after the release of the Sunday Times Rich List comes the highly anticipated Forbes 100 Most Powerful Women list… and once again, some of fashion’s biggest names have made the cut. Vogue US Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour was the highest ranking fashion name coming in at a very respectable number 39 (two places higher than last year, we’ll have you know!) and it’s thought that her work on the Barack Obama re-election campaign and her continuous work with the newly re-named Anna Wintour Costume Center helped her promotion up the list. Gisele, i.e. the highest paid supermodel in the world according to Forbes, once again made the list – and she should feel extra privileged because she was actually the only model to make the list. We bet Naomi Campbell will have something to say about that… Spanx founder and sartorial saviour to women everywhere Sara Blakely came in at number 93, and former Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts – who has now moved to Apple – secured position number 49. Designers such as Miuccia Prada, Diane von Furstenberg and Tory Burch have also made the list – no surprises there although we expected to see Stella McCartney and Victoria Beckham in there too. Maybe next year, perhaps? Angelina Jolie and Shakira made the list for all their charitable efforts, as did Beyonce and Sofia Vergara. Click here to take a look at the list in all its glory, and find out who secured the very top spot. Go on, have a guess….

Achieving great lengths: Why the mini skirt is a must-have fashion item

Skirts. We can never have too many, but rather interestingly, the varying styles and lengths have significantly defined perceived conceptions of the ‘new women’ and femininity. From the 1920s beaded flapper, flirty 50s circle or late 90s grungy denim, skirts have been just as influential on culture as they have our style. One skirt that shook up modern cultures, along with our desire for the perfect pins, is the mini skirt. Making waves in the 60s, the design freed young women from the historical convention of dressing in the style of their mothers. As British youths began to demand their own identity, a young political entity gained a voice and created a new and distinctive fashion that embodied their own political views – this is why the mini skirt is a must-have fashion item; it signifies a point in time where women were given the choice to dress exactly how they wanted. Championed by creative types such as Mary Quant and Twiggy in the 60s, it became mainstream in the 80s and even office-wear in the 90s. However, if worn wrong, you can cross the line of feminism loving fashionista into dangerous Christina Aguilera ‘Dirty’ territory. So, what’s the best way to wear a mini today? Firstly, with confidence; feeling comfortable in your own skin is the first step to feeling beautiful in your clothing. If you’re a little shy of your legs, try some fun exercise to boost morale and tone your pins. Dancing is a great way to achieve limb-perfection. After all, have you ever seen a dancer with bad legs? Zumba is a high-adrenaline way of sculpting legs Naomi Campbell will be jealous of. Simply find a class near you here, get a decent pair of dance shoes from an expert retailer like Dancemania and get the […]

Are we overreacting to Mindy Kaling’s Elle US cover?

As the new crop of magazine cover stars emerge for February, controversy isn’t too far off. In the firing line this week for cropping the hell out of one of its February cover stars, Mindy Kaling, is ELLE US. The Mindy Project star features on one of the four special edition covers celebrating women in TV, alongside New Girls’ Zooey Deschanel, Alison Williams from Girls and Amy Poehler from Parks and Recreation – all of whom are fully featured on their respective covers. Being Kaling’s first major mag-fronting gig, critics were quick to slam the publication for typifying the requirements of an industry bound by a silent, immoral code of skinniness, colour, and a whole load of size zero. But, before jumping on the bandwagon to berate an otherwise respectable and widely read publication, we did a little digging to see where cover stars had been given the crop treatment – regardless of colour, size or celebrity status. And, the results were pretty surprising. Yes, ELLE US repeated the mistake with its October 2010 cover star, Gabourey Sidibe, whose skin was supposedly lightened, and image heavily cropped. And, not forgetting the magazine’s star Adele, who (partially) appeared on the May 2013 issue. But then again, ELLE UK also featured a cropped image of white, size zero, Victoria’s Secret model Candice Swanepoel on its December 2013 cover, quickly followed by a shoulders-up appearance from British model and actress, Suki Waterhouse for January 2014. Both ladies’ assets are in line with what the industry deems image perfect. Now, let’s turn to another glossy; Vogue. Although most editions of the magazine have courted controversy in the past, the cover star cuts are still interesting. Only Jennifer Lawrence’s face – the It girl of, basically, everything – graced the September 2013 issue Vogue US, whilst Beyoncé […]

Cara Delevingne was the most Googled fashion name of 2013

After winning Model of the Year at last year’s British Fashion Awards, we predicted that Cara Delevingne’s fame and fortune would go through the roof. We definitely weren’t wrong, because the British model has only gone and secured the top spot in Google’s annual Zeitgeist list for fashion folk. Congrats, Cara! With all the things that have been going on for her this year, from ad campaigns to fashion week shows to new acting roles to rumoured relationships with One Direction’s Harry Styles, we’re definitely not surprised to see Cara Delevingne secure the top spot! So Cara is officially the UK’s most searched for fashion figure on Google (Victoria Beckham topped the Bing list, fyi), and has beat the likes of Naomi Campbell and Jourdan Dunn (who came a respective second and third) with former CEO of Burberry Angela Ahrendts securing the fourth spot. We reckon a lot of that traffic must have come when she sensationally stepped down from her CEO position to take up a job at Apple! And it isn’t just fashion folk that Google has been monitoring all year; Coach was the most searched for fashion brand, with Hermes and Chanel closely following. Who have you been Googling this year?

Joan Smalls gets her Elle US January cover, wears Givenchy

We can’t blink without hearing about the on and off catwalk antics of Cara Delevingne and her model pals, so it’s safe to say that models are making a huge comeback. In fact they might just be bigger and more important than ever – and Elle US’s January issue is all about reiterating that point. Joan Smalls, one of our favourite young models of the moment, has finally landed her first Elle cover, and is looking fierce in a sequin Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci dress. Only a professional poser can pull off a look like that! Inside the mag, as well as posing in some more lust-worthy pieces from the likes of Chanel to Gucci, she  opens up about the lack of diversity. “People hide behind the word aesthetic,” she began. “They say, ‘Well, it’s just that designer’s aesthetic.’ But when you see 18 seasons in a row and not one single model outside a certain skin colour…? “There are people in the industry who are advocates, who support diversity. And there are people who do not. I don’t get it. Beauty is universal. These doors have to open.” Anyone else think she should team up with Naomi Campbell and sort the diversity issue in the modelling world out once and for all? You can read the rest of the interview in Elle US’s January issue.

John Paul Pietrus shoots Andrej Pejic (among others) for Philippines aid

You can always count on the fashion world to step in and lend its support in a crisis. Following the success of the John Paul Pietrus limited edition images of Naomi Campbell that went on sale to help the Red Cross Disaster Fund for the victims of the Philippines disaster, the photographer is now enlisting the help of more well-known faces to raise even more money for the cause. Mariacarla Boscono, Tao Okamoto, Fei Fei Sun, Rob Evans and Tain Yi and everyone’s favourite androgynous model Andrej Pejic have all posed for John Paul’s camera lens. “I am proud of my dear old friend and colleague John-Paul Pietrus for offering to do his part in helping raise funds for much needed aid,” Andrej Pejic said. “I am grateful to be part of the project. So much love and creativity and collaboration has gone into the work we have done together and I can’t see a better purpose for it than this.” We couldn’t agree more! The images cost just £37 each, and are available to buy until November 26th, so act fast if you want a little piece of pictorial history while helping a great cause at the same time.

Daria Werbowy named new face of Mango

Mango has revealed the newest face of its ad campaigns – and that face is none other than Daria Werbowy! The stunning 29-year-old Canadian/Polish model replaces Miranda Kerr (who did a wonderful job of posing for the brand we think you’ll all agree) and follows in the footsteps of Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Penelope Cruz, Claudia Schiffer and Milla Jovovich to name just a few. “As part of our policy of collaborating with celebrities from the world of fashion, Mango has decided to collaborate with one of top fashion models of the moment,” said Ninona Vila, a spokesperson for the brand. “In choosing a model of the stature of Daria Werbowy, our aim is not only to highlight our brand values, but also the importance of the quality and design of the garments in the new collection.” Well said. We have to wait until February for the full campaign to launch (boo!), but the sneaky behind-the-scenes image above is getting us nicely excited. [Daily Mail]
