Update: Blake Lively and Victoria Beckham collaboration whispers were just rumours

Earlier this week, we reported that it looked as if Blake Lively was to step up as the face of Victoria Beckham’s eponymous label but we can now say that these rumours have been well and truly quashed. A spokesperson for Beckham told Vogue: ‘I don’t know where this one has come from – other than from Blake being a fan of the Victoria Beckham collection… She is not Victoria’s ‘Muse’ and there is no ‘face of’ the advertising campaign.’ It’s no doubt that Lively would have made a good model for the Victoria Beckham collection. Afterall, she has already been snapped in that lovely black number from the spring 2010 collection looking like the perfect muse. Oh well. Sorry Gossip Girl fans – this one’s a definite no-go.

If in doubt, work a lace body like Blake

Blake Lively dons a lacey bodysuit whenever she is unsure what to wear. The ‘Gossip Girl’ actress claims the all-in-one items are her wardrobe secret because they look good under anything. She explained: “If in doubt, wear a bodysuit. Topshop sells great crop tops, but wearing a lace bodysuit underneath stops them from being too revealing.” The 21 year old star, who has previously claimed she feels like a “man” when she wears high heels as she is so tall , added she only wears clothes which suit her shape, even though it means she sometimes misses out on trends.

Anna Sui’s punk collection

Anna Sui latest line of clothes is geared towards ‘punk-rock’ teenage girls. The designer has launched a new range based on US TV show ‘Gossip Girl’ – which is set in New York – for US store Target, and has been inspired by the Brooklyn-based characters Jenny Humphrey and Vanessa Abrams because they have a similar background to her. She said: ‘I love the punk-rock style of Jenny. And she has the bangs, just like me! I relate to her style most because I was the Brooklyn girl in high school.’ Jenny is played by Taylor Momsen, while Vanessa is Jessica Szohr. Although she has less in common with Blake Lively and Leighton Meester’s rich characters Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf, Anna says their luxury Manhattan lifestyle is catered for in the clothes.

Bruno: The Movie is the fashion film of the year

So last year there was Sex And The City, and right now we get our weekly fix of Gossip Girl and Stylista. But we want something more! Thankfully, Sacha Baron Cohen aka Borat/Ali G, has come to our rescue in his new guise as fashion reporter Bruno. The film hit the headlines during the Milan and Paris Spring/Summer 09 catwalks back in October 2008, as Bruno ran riot round the fashion weeks. One incident included him sucking on tampons during the Stella McCartney show and making a general nuisance of himself, as well as storming the Iceberg catwalk and sneaking into the backstage areas with fake passes dressed in a Velcro jumpsuit. These antics split the fashion world, some brandishing it a disgrace whilst others seeing the funny side.

New York Fashion Week: Jill Stuart AW09

If it wasn’t for Paris & Nicky Hilton and cast members from Gossip Girl sending gaggling teenagers into mass hysteria, I would have sworn I was at London Fashion week two seasons ago. Jill Stuart sent out lots of lace, ivory chiffon ruffled dress, sheer blouses with billowy sleeves, black rock-chic tailcoats and fun flirty skirts. Most of the looks were finished off with a fedora embellished with a cute lace rose. Aside from a dominate black and ivory palette, shades of steel grey and lilac made a welcome appearance. The ankle boots were gorgeous. Overall the collection was girly but a bit more grown up.

SJP recreates Diana Vreeland for Harper’s Bazaar

Sarah Jessica Parker is a true woman’s woman. Men don’t get her, women can’t be without her. And in the March issue of Harper’s Bazaar she chats about Vreeland, Gossip Girl and of course Carrie Bradshaw. In a shoot inspired by the late, great editor of Harper’s Bazaar Diana Vreeland, SJP keeps true to her signature style of sleek with a hint of quirky. Shot by Peter Lindbergh, we see SJP in a range of DV poses, wearing at one point an LBD but certainly with no VPL. Ok, enough with the acronyms. Wearing gorgeous pieces from the likes of Salvatore Ferragamo and Yves Saint Laurent, Sarah-Jessica looks every inch the glamorous editor. It is a surprising shoot when compared with the cover, the shoot has a moody flamboyance whereas the cover is eye-catching with springtime pinks. The interview reminds us why we love Sarah-Jessica so much, her positivity and fabulous outlook shines through all of her comments. When asked about how Carrie Bradshaw would handle the recession, she replied: “She would probably end up in a hospital. Perhaps she would go back to her ’80s stuff and start bringing it out again.” Is anyone else thinking that there might be another series in that? ‘Carrie Faces The Crunch’ wouldn’t you just love to see her customizing her Manolo’s and rooting for vintage Chanel? But maybe we should just let SJP rest from the limelight of her alter ego for a while. In response to whether the Sex And The City bus tours affect her everyday life she said: “Ah, yes, I run into it. There are times when it’s totally terrific, and there are times when I’m like, Oh, God, I’d better run in the other direction. Especially when I’m with my son.” Although, probably my favorite part of […]

Australian magazine fat shames Kendall Jenner, Photoshops cellulite on her legs

Sometimes we actually can’t believe what we read and as a result, have no option but to write about. And this is one of those instances. Australian celebrity gossip magazine Famous has not only fat shamed model-of-the-moment Kendall Jenner (yes, she is the teeny tiny waist and flawless legs that appear to go on for weeks) but has also taken it one step further by seemingly Photoshopping cellulite on her perfect pins. You don’t have to be sitting front row or have binoculars to see that Kendall appeared to be cellulite free on the numerous catwalks she graced during Fashion Month so far. Luckily for Kendall, it doesn’t look like her friends, fans, and family believe the story for a second… “I just saw a magazine cover of Kendall Jenner where is (as usual) looks thin and beautiful and FAMOUS decided to photoshop some… cottage cheese on the back of her thigh,” Kendall’s good friend Ireland Baldwin wrote on Twitter. “uh. let me tell you. that girl has flawless legs. I’ve seen them in person plenty of times [sic].” The magazine is yet to respond – and Kendall has so far kept a dignified silence – but we think Ireland Baldwin has put it in its place. When will the fat shaming and needless Photoshopping to boost sales end?! [Telegraph]

Twinings Infusions and Huffington Post create work and lifestyle portal

We love a good cup of tea. We challenge you to find a British girl who doesn’t.  And we also love surfing the net for fun and interesting stories when we’re having a well-deserved break from work. So imagine our delight when we learnt that our two favourite things – tea and reading – were coming together in an epic we-can’t-believe-this-hasn’t-been-done-before collaboration. Twinings Infusions has teamed up with Huffington Post to create a 10 Reasons Why It’s Good to Gossip at Work article was particularly interesting and informative – and what girl isn’t partial to a bit of gossiping? The boys might have you believe that gossiping is bad, but in actual fact, the article states that “good gossip” is necessary for the good of humanity. This is something we can definitely get on board with, and you can too – especially if you work with a small group of people and interaction with your colleagues is key.  “A lot of gossip is driven by concern for others and has positive, social effects,” said Dr Robb Willer, co-author of The Virtues of Gossip. “We find that those who engage in this form of gossip are generally driven by sincere desires to help others,” he continued, before adding that it also eases frustration and makes people feel better if their gossip has a chance to help others at the same time, too. “More generous people are more likely to engage in this form of gossip.” And there we were feeling guilty about our love of gossiping with the girls all these years! Where would we be without this portal, eh? Another article which we particularly enjoyed while sipping on a hot and tasty cup of Twinings Infusions was the one entitled

Sarah Jessica Parker wows on Harper’s Bazaar US September issue

She was one of the best dressed ladies at this year’s prestigious Met Gala, and she also played one of the most stylish ladies in one of our favourite TV shows of all time, so we think Sarah Jessica Parker has more than earned her place as a September cover girl. SJP been photographed by Terry Richardson for Harper’s Bazaar’s September 2013 issue – and look how happy she seems about it! Sarah looks the spit of her Sex and the City alter ego Carrie Bradshaw in the editorial pictures, what with all the stunning high fashion pieces she is rocking like a pro. Her interview is not to be missed either; here’s what she had to say about her 16-year marriage to Matthew Broderick: “Matthew and I come from a different time and place. When we were young people, all we ever wanted was to be good working actors,” she said. “We didn’t think of fame or money because, honestly, money was never part of the dream. It was to work in theater, to be around those people whose work I was in total awe of. I never saw the trappings; nobody talked about being a celebrity.” “So when our marriage came up in conversation, it wouldn’t occur to us that we were obligated to respond to allegations or gossip. You have to be a bit circumspect, but you also have to take up a position, and you have to stick to it.” Perhaps that’s why they have one of the longest and most successful marriages Hollywood has ever seen! You can read more of Sarah Jessica Parker’s interview in the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar US, out August 20th.

Selena Gomez talks Taylor Swift and fairytales in Nylon February

Whether it’s her on/off relationship with Justin Bieber, her friendship with Taylor Swift, her acting career, or her presence in the fashion world (no prizes for guessing which one we’re most excited about), there’s no denying that Selena Gomez is hot property. And with her new movie Spring Breakers coming out soon, it doesn’t surprise us to find her gracing the front cover of a magazine… in fact, Selena has two separate covers for Nylon’s February issue. You can see the other one at the bottom – which one do you prefer? As well as making loads of girls jealous with her beauty, Selena also chats to the mag about the paps, her everyday life, and how she’s “lucky” to have Taylor Swift in her life. “We both experienced the same things at the same time,” she said about Taylor Swift. “But we’ve never once talked about our industry. She just became the person I’d go to for an issue with my family or boyfriend. It’s so hard to trust girls, so I’m lucky to have her.” And what did Selena have to say about her everyday life? “I’m having fun,” she told the mag. “At the end of the day, love is such a normal thing, and everyone deals with it. Just because it’s a different lifestyle doesn’t change the meaning of what I’ve been raised on, which is fairytales.” Aw, nice to know she’s still a Disney girl at heart and believes in the fairytale magic. Head to the Nylon website to see more sneaky peeks from Selena’s interview and photoshoot. [Celebrity Gossip]

Rate or Slate Dree Hemingway, Kristen Stewart and Josephine de la Baume’s style efforts?

This week’s Rate or Slate contestants all have one thing in common: they seem to have parted ways with the unfailingly feminine skirt and dress in favour of a more unconventional take on dressing for a glam event. First up is Dree Hemingway at the New York premiere for The Campaign. Opting to stand out by turning up in simple staples is the key to getting the fash critics gossiping, and Dree’s done a fair job with a slightly-tucked-in tee, perfect floor-skimming jeans and a notable tote. Masculine-silhouette championing Kristen Stewart has her finger firmly on the fashion pulse when it comes to translating high-end looks on the red carpet. Not one to shy away from a laissez-faire approach to red carpet dressing, Kristen turned up to the Teen Choice Awards in a Roberto Cavalli Resort 2013 printed blazer, leather pants, slouchy t-shirt and Louboutin ‘Pigalle’ heels. Completing the round up of skirt/dress evading starlets is the stunning French actress and singer (and Mark Ronson’s missus. Phew!) Josephine de la Baume. Josephine attended the launch of Karl Lagerfeld Collection at Selfridges in a monochrome KARL blazer, ripped jeans and a killer pout to boot. It’s over to our discerning Style Jury… Fashion News Ed, Maria says: Dree Hemingway: ‘I’m liking the new t-shirt tucking method, and it’s generally a good look but it needed just a tiny pop of a brighter colour to bring it to life.’ Kristen Stewart: ‘I really liked Kristen’s outfit at the Teen Choice Awards – as one of the only girls to not wear a short dress, I really championed her sartorial risk as I definitely think it paid off. Especially since we all know how much she likes a good mini skirt. Without a doubt my favourite, and nice touch on the hair braid […]

Best Dressed of the Week: Rita Ora at the NME Awards 2012

We love it when celebrities ditch the traditional dress code in favour of more quirky, up-tempo ensembles. Rita Ora: the new girl on the block who’s taking the music, fashion and star gossip charts by storm did just that at this week’s NME Awards. She looked a heavenly vision in white with an interestingly rebellious edge at the Awards, held at the Brixton Academy on Wednesday; sporting a fluid, white Hussein Chalayan spring/summer 2012 suit. The Hot Right Now singer ensured her look didn’t fall into boardroom territory by accessorising with gold jewellery and spikes. Rita opted for various gold necklaces, bracelets and rings, and finished her look with a statement Christian Louboutin ‘Marquise’ python clutch. She chose to break up the whitewash with nude peep toe B Brian Atwood ‘Bambola’ pumps. Showcasing her signature beach wave blonde curls, Rita opted for a strong scarlet nail colour offset by a nude lip and strong eyes. Rita’s edgy sense of style gives a clear indication of the direction her musical talent will take. She’ll definitely keep surprising the showbiz masses, and, we feel she bears an uncanny resemblance to our other rebel favourite: Rihanna.

Amy Childs’ Essex ‘allure’ in Vogue? Shaaat uppp!

If the elongated title has already confused you, imagine the flummoxed expression when I learnt that Essex’s finest had landed in the holy grail of fashion publications. The reasons for being flabbergasted by this revelation are pretty apparent: Amy Childs is not a super, an A-lister, a fashion-forward WAG or an ambassador for ethical fashion, but merely the by-product of a modern day virus we catch through our television sets: reality TV. Leaning, more than anything, into the unrealities of life (‘vajazzles’ and plush lifestyles without a day’s work), The Only Way is Essex‘s Amy Childs is the cost-effective but highly glamorous answer to Katie Price – who occasionally bursts into fits of controlled laughter, amidst sporadic blurts of “hun” or “babe” with meaningless emphasis when addressing everyone she meets. Having been accustomed to seeing her on ITV2, in sensationalised celeb gossip magazines and now on Celebrity Big Brother, to come across her in the UK Vogue October issue shook me loose of my fashion hinges. As a novice fashion journo, I am guilty of attending a rather incriminating Essex Fashion Week, which lasted the best part of two days with intermittent music due to the DJ’s frequent spasms, orange-stained outfits and uncared-for hair extensions, making the marquee in which the event was held resemble an odour-free hay barn. But I have been left seriously wondering why Alexandra Shulman should grow an infatuation with what it means to be an Essex girl – or Essexite, as I prefer to call it. Vogue, to its millions of avid followers globally, is the pioneer of everything. Anything sartorial; if it’s noted or listed by Vogue and its many ‘-ettes’, will become fashion legislation. So is Vogue featuring Amy Childs set to transform her into some sort of ‘authority’, or is it a […]

Gwen Stefani donates her Galliano wedding dress to the V&A museum

Many magazine issues across the board are bound to feature, in one way or another, the genius work of John Galliano in the coming months. But as Elle embraces Gwen Stefani as its cover girl for April, it may have just pipped the others to the post. In an exclusive interview with the British magazine, pop singer-turned-fashion-designer Gwen Stefani talks candidly to old friend and Garbage front-girl Shirley Manson about her world and all things fashion – and, more importantly, handing over her Galliano wedding dress to the V&A museum. A snippet from the interview below: SM: “What have you worn over the years that you’ve thought, ‘F***, I looked good!’ GS: My wedding dress. SM: That wedding dress was insane! [John Galliano] is one of the greatest living designers. GS: Oh, for sure. When I got engaged and someone told me that John said he would make my dress, I was like really? I said I wanted it to be over the top, but not traditional – I wanted it to be everything. But how do you tell this genius over the phone? He was, like, OK, and sent me these drawings of this unbelievable, perfect dress. It’s going into the V&A now. I didn’t wanna send it because I was scared it would get ruined. But it’s a work of art, it needed to be seen.” It seems one way or another John Galliano’s design legend is destined to live on, alongside his notorious work. Catch the full interview in the April issue of ELLE magazine, on sale today (Wednesday 9th March).
