10 evening gowns that’d be perfect for the Golden Globes or the Oscars!

The turn of the year marks the beginning of a rather exciting period in the celebville calendar: awards season. With the Golden Globes merely days away, and the Oscars (gasp!) taking place next month, our imagination is running wild thinking about the potential sartorial choices the leading ladies of Hollywood will make. From, Gwyneth Paltrow’s make-yer-heart-beat-faster, stunning Tom Ford cape gown to Angelina Jolie’s ‘leg party’ in that strapless Atelier Versace number. Emma Stone’s style status-cementing Giambattista Valli couture gown to Natalie Portman looking delightful in vintage Christian Dior; the 2012 Oscars gave us plenty to dissect and so much to breathlessly stare at, mouths agape. The 2012 Golden Globes were no less, with Angelina Jolie once again in a stunning Atelier Versace creation, and who can forget Tilda Swinton’s charismatic take on red carpet dressing in an exquisitely tailored Haider Ackeman ensemble. No doubt, awards season this year will bring just as much delight to our style feasting eyes, and with the Golden Globes nominations already released, and Oscar nominations being revealed on Thursday, take a look at the top 10 evening gowns we think would be perfect for this year’s biggest red carpet events. 1. Roland Mouret Wendover one shoulder crepe gown, £2,150, available at Selfridges 2. Gucci pleated silk-georgette gown, £2,150, available at Net-a-Porte 3. Experience an unusual Christmas with Selfridges

This post brought to you by Selfridges & Co. (with video provided by GoViral). All opinions are 100% mine. Are you in the Christmas spirit yet? Nope? If you're feeling a little like Ebenezer Scrooge at the moment may we suggest taking a moment to watch this cute Christmas video from Selfridges. Titled “Not your usual Christmas” and directed by Bruce Weber, the video is energetic, fun and definitely encompasses everything that Selfridges stands for. It’s probably our favourite Christmas video thus far…. Recently voted "Best Department Store in the World" at the Global Department Store Summit in New York, Selfridges is a national treasure and has a fond place in our heart. What other department store can boast being the sole reason for the existence of Paddington Bear? Yep that’s right. After purchasing a toy bear for his better half from Selfridges on Christmas Eve, author Michael Bond and his wife named the bear Paddington and subsequently two years later, the beloved Paddington Bear was created. If that isn’t enough in 2007 Hermès designed two exclusive sought after Birkin bags in the Selfridges yellow, with over 1000 buyers wanting to snap up the beauties.   From its vibrant window displays to the brilliant selection of must-have designer fashion, oh and not to forget the beauty hall (which is literally a beauty heaven!), we could easily spend a whole day in the store merrily shopping our way through each department snapping up fab Christmas gifts. But thankfully with Selfridges’ fun online gift guide we can escape the Christmas mayhem and get (not quite the same) but a similar fun Selfridges experience from the comfort of our sofa. With a mug of hot chocolate covered in marshmallows and a couple of mince pies by our side we’ve managed to do a bit […]

Do you rate the designs? If you do, then you can snap one of them up for yourself, as they will be going under the hammer from today. Marion Cotillard dramatic in Dior for Harper’s Bazaar UK December

Another December fashion glossy cover coming your way this morning, and this time it’s courtesy of the ever-gorgeous Marion Cotillard. The Oscar-winning French actress – whose new Lady Dior ad campaign was released earlier this week by the way – is looking as chic and sophisticated as ever on the front cover of Harper’s Bazaar UK in a sexy Dior Haute Couture number. No surprises there! The sleek hair and dark eyes look so seductive and striking against the simple background, proving that Marion can pull off both understated and dramatic looks with ease. Not even a hint of jealousy there, we promise! Marion isn’t the only reason to get the December copy though, as it also happens to be the Women of the Year issue which features the likes of Stella McCartney, Jessica Ennis, Vivienne Westwood and even our very own Queen! Gonna be a good’un!

Winter Jewels: How to stand out with Next Season’s Style

The world might be turning all kinds of grey as winter descends, but you don’t have to. The upcoming season’s fashion trends are all about opulence, decadence and luxury, and jewel-like colours have been creating kaleidoscope patterns on the catwalk. The great thing about this winter’s trends is that you don’t have to give your entire wardrobe a makeover. A few bright, bold accessories and one-off items can add some serious accent and attitude on their own. Here’s how to transform your wardrobe into a veritable jewellery box this winter: Kaleidoscopic One of the most exciting brands to emerge in time for winter are Urban Lab, a design team who are boldly breaking down the barriers between art and fashion. Turquoise It’s all about luxury colours and fabrics this season, so if your winter coat is looking a bit tired then why not splash out […]

Who wore what on the James Bond Skyfall red carpet

With the Bond girls and the main man himself looking so stunning at the Skyfall photocall, we were expecting great things from last night’s premiere at London’s Royal Albert Hall. And as a whole, we weren’t disappointed. Naomie Harris stunned in a great Marios Schwab number, which incorporated sexiness with full-on glamour. She was able to showcase her enviable body with the bodysuit feature, while maintaining the classic wow factor associated with James Bond with the sheer long detailing. Berenice Marlohe also brought out the big guns – and the puppies – in a striking red ballgown by Vivienne Westwood. Way to showcase British talent! She accessorised with another effortless updo, sparkly earrings and some very attention grabbing two-tone eye make-up. We also need to give Kelly Brook a special mention too, because we think she was the honorary Bond girl of the night – looking only what can be described as utterly sensational in a glitzy golden dress. Our best dressed of the entire premiere by far! [poll id=”374″]

Stella McCartney, Giles Deacon, Matthew Williamson and more design dog outfits for charity

We admittedly get very excited when our favourite designers give back, and this is no exception! A host of some of the biggest and best designers in the world have lent their talents to the Battersea Dogs and Cats home, and will each create a couture outfit fit for a dog to raise money for the charity. Stella McCartney, Giles Deacon, Matthew Williamson, Vivienne Westwood, Julien Macdonald, Henry Holland, Mulberry and Philip Treacy are just a few of the big name designers who will be creating an item for man’s best friend. “I am extremely proud to support the dogwalk,” said Henry Holland. “I have always been a dog lover and this initiative is such a brilliant way to use fashion as a way of highlighting such a great cause.” The finished pieces will then be showcased during the Collars and Coats gala on November 8th, and then auctioned off to raise money for the cause. We can’t wait to see what they come up with! Whose design are you looking forward to seeing the most? [Vogue][Image]

Paris Fashion Week SS13 highlights – Part 3

It was a busy weekend for the Parisian fashionistas, as Vivienne Westwood, Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier and John Galliano were among the spring/summer 2013  collections which debuted on the French runways. We already saw Raf Simons present his debut collection for Christian Dior a few months ago during Couture Fashion Week, but we were still looking forward to seeing what direction he would take his first ready-to-wear line in. As a whole, it was contemporary and modern, but it was minimalistic. The subtle but very apparent hint of romanticism wasn’t lost in the new-season collection either, which just goes to show that Raf Simons has done his homework. We’re impressed! You can always expect a good gimmick from a Vivienne Westwood show, and the latest outing was no exception. The models essentially channelled Marie Antoinette with their hair and outfits, while some of them walked out with hearts on their faces – obviously the designer was keen to show and spread the love. Quite cute really! Jean Paul Gaultier collections are always a highlight, and once again the designer sought inspiration from famous faces. It was all about the late Amy Winehouse for the Couture show back in January, but this time round JPG paid tribute to more than one musical icon by presenting looks inspired by David Bowie, Boy George, Madonna and the legendary Michael Jackson. We imagine the catwalk show in itself would have been quite spectacular and the atmosphere somewhat electric. John Galliano was another hotly anticipated collection, as we were intrigued to find out what creative director Bill Gaytten was capable of doing now that he didn’t have Christian Dior to focus on as well. The collection definitely went in a different direction this season; gone was John Galliano’s love of theatrics, drama and all things attention-grabbing, […]

Jessie J stuns in Dolce and Gabbana for Elle November

Jessie J is undergoing a bit of an image overhaul at the moment, lightening her trademark raven locks and opting for a slightly different wardrobe during her recent public appearances. However, Jessie looked liked her old self (minus the blunt fringe, natch) for the front cover of November’s Elle UK and we have to say that she looks somewhat phenomenal. Jessie J doesn’t actually need an image change if this picture of her rocking Dolce and Gabbana is anything to go by, but we haven’t been able to flaw her recent make-over either. So contrary to what she sings in her own song Nobody’s Perfect, we think she actually comes pretty close. We can’t wait to buy the mag to check out the rest of her editorial pictures (she reportedly rocks designs from Elie Saab and Giles) and read what she has to say, as our Jessie always gives a good, candid and honest interview. November’s Elle UK is out this Wednesday!

The Fash-off! Jennifer Lopez vs. Kelly Brook

Jennifer Lopez and Kelly Brook; two ladies from opposite sides of the pond, but both famed for making heads turn with displays of their, erm, generous derrieres and a penchant for dare-me-to-split dresses that perfectly showcase their enviable curves.  Welcome to this week’s frock-off between J-Lo in an Edition by Georges Chakra, SS’12 number at her World Tour post party in Las Vegas, and Kelly in a bum-flashing (ahem), form-fitting, embellished mesh floor-length gown at the Keith Lemon: The Film premiere in London. Here’s what we thought… Fashion News Ed, Maria says: ‘Jen showed off her amazingly enviable body in that dress – how is it possible to have a bod like that after giving birth to twins? I loved her accessorising too, but I think she played it a bit safe by trying to be very matchy matchy. She could have gone for some bright pumps (maybe pink or yellow?) which would have worked just as well but in all honesty no one is really complaining about J-Lo here. Least of all me! The hair gives the look a bit of a personal twist as I know Jen likes her experimental hairstyles. Who can forget those iconic braids…’ ‘Kelly wins this one for me just because she can do no wrong when she does that 1950’s vintage pin-up girl thing with her hair. Kel proves that you don’t need to flash the flesh to show the world the wonderful curves God blessed you with… and judging by the smile on her face I think she knows that. Flawless!’ Amy @wolfwhistle says: ‘I love a bad pun so I can’t resist saying that this is nautical but nice on J-Lo – badda boom! But it’s not great: there’s a bit of a style clash between the dress and the accessories. She is […]

5 investment-worthy pieces to ease you into Fall

Struggling to step into autumn style? Fear not, we’re here to help! We’ve picked out 5 key pieces that’ll help you ease into Fall 2012 without the pressure of committing to a frighteningly experimental wardrobe! Mannish coats and jackets were all the rage on the autumn/winter 2012 runways, with YSL, Proenza Schouler and Christopher Kane giving us a taste of what to be seen in come September. Berry hues were a major hit in line with autumn’s moody attitude, while printed trousers are well and truly here to stay, thanks to the psychedelic versions we witnessed at Prada. Purple is the SS’12-sorbet-Louis-Vuitton-lemon of Fall 2012, and set to be splashed across every possible item of clothing this season; covet the colour in a pair of ultra-feminine, easy-to-wear courts. And finally, the finishing touch is an uber-desirable bag, naturally. But we’re not talking ‘It’ bag material here. For Fall handbags have undergone a chic-over: stripped down to the essential parts, with a minimal but polished feel. The Pashli satchel is the perfect accessory addition to any discerning fashionistas wardrobe. Black Origami Collar Melton Wool Coat by Vivienne Westwood, £578 Clem Sweater by DAGMAR, £134 Cream And Black Dani Printed Trousers by By Malene Birger, £101 Anette High Pointed Court Shoe by Diane Von Furstenberg, £215 Petrol Green Pashli Satchel by 3.1 Phillip Lim, £830

Daisy Lowe looks adorable for InStyle UK’s September issue

Aww, we’ve missed Daisy Lowe – and we think that fronting the September issue of InStyle UK is definitely a great way to say “I’m back in business and ready for action!” don’t you? Miss Daisy’s cover image isn’t the only gorgeous picture either… the whole editorial is full of stunning pictures of the 23-year-old model showcasing some fun, flirty and all round fabulous pieces from the likes of Jil Sander, Vivienne Westwood and Moschino among others. We can’t wait to read the accompanying interview, although we’re not going to hold our breath for a detailed preview of what Daisy’s got lined up in the coming months, as she revealed to the mag that she is “not a big plan girl” as she doesn’t want to jinx anything. Smart lady. Daisy’s InStyle September issue is out now!

Five minutes with Style Passport’s Sarah Walter

Catering to our style and beauty needs for staycations, spa breaks and beach holidays and a whole lot more, by cherry picking products from ‘high/low’ fashion and beauty brands, Style Passport is the go-to destination for stylish holiday essentials. My Fashion Life caught up with the lady behind it all, Sarah Walter, who after starting a placement at British Vogue the same day Anna Wintour started at the magazine, and holding senior positions at Marie Claire, and Harpers, decided to set up Style Passport out of a ‘lifelong dream.’ Meet the woman who’s done it all… How did the idea to set up a specific platform like Style Passport come about? Style Passport is the culmination of my careers in magazines and then retail, combined with my huge passion for travel and adventure. Name three holiday spots you regularly visit and why. Our Cottage in the Brecon Beacons in Wales as often as I can to walk, garden and spend quality time with my family and friends. Baros in the Maldives which is the most perfect tiny island I have ever visited, with the best fish life I have ever seen, and New York. A friend said her only regret in life is she cannot visit New York for the first time again, I agree. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would that be? I’m getting keener and keener on California, the lifestyle is very appealing all that delicious food and wine and the drives…… Three things I never travel (abroad) without are… My iPhone for music, maps and note taking, a huge pair of sunglasses (currently loving Linda Farrow giant pink shades) to feel glamorous, protect me from the sun and to disguise jet lagged eyes. And finally a scarf which can be a wrap, towel, skirt, head wrap and […]

Let the London Men’s Fashion Weekend Guide Your Style

London has just hosted the first ever Men’s Fashion Weekend, which ran from June 15th to 18th, and its unprecedented success has already injected a new inspirational life-force into men’s style choices everywhere. Not only did the so-uncool-he’s-cool fashion icon Prince Charles open the weekend with a speech, but top designers Dame Vivienne Westwood and Tommy Hilfiger were among the guests in attendance. To sum up: cool people came, cool clothes were seen, you need to let this coolness into your life. Oh, and Prince Charles is stylish… but you don’t need to dress like him. I know, right. Phew. So which looks should you let guide your summer purchases? Here’s my pick of the best designer trends and how they can translate to the real man – that’s you. JW Anderson’s models rocked a classic brand like Fred Perry, which you can get online at Size, are all that’s needed to finish the job. Astrid Anderson’s collection was inspired by hip hop and urban street chic, teaming bright colours with basketball vests. Even if you wouldn’t necessarily wear bright maroon trousers with yours, your wardrobe can benefit from the addition of a neutral-coloured vest. Anderson’s use of bright colours can be referenced in other areas of an outfit; a belt, pair of sneakers, or even – if you’re feeling kooky – a bumbag (

Lana Del Rey’s Style: Eccentric, experimental or explain, please?

This is not a post to knock down, smash to smithereens, and then build back up a singer, who by many, is held in high regard, but a complimentary offering to subtly convince them to sort our their damned wardrobe. Considering she’s relatively new talent, Lana Del Rey can definitely claim her stake of fame, after a revamped introduction into the music industry with debut track Video Games, followed up by the massive hit Born to Die; being snapped up by NEXT Model Management Agency and even having a Mulberry bag named in her honour. The voluptuous-lipped beauty is definitely a mesmerising singer and influencer, but quite the miserable dresser we hoped she wouldn’t be. That moment of fury, sudden disgust and initial shock-reaction gasp we’ve all endured at some point in our lives came for me the other day, when trawling through various fashion sites I landed on an image of Lana at the Evening of Environmental Excellence, in Los Angeles. Her attire raised many questions at once, which couldn’t all be processed into rational answers at the time, because, frankly, Lana’s style doesn’t fall into ‘rational’, either. Wearing a graphic printed blouse (great), dark jeans (on point) a statement medallion necklace (yes, I approve), Converse trainers (comfortable, fashionable) and a seriously misplaced faux fur coat (huh?), I couldn’t figure out, mentally, how to assess this muddled ensemble. See, Lana may have a hidden stylish streak, as awe-inspiring as her hypnotic vocals, but we only get to hear the latter and never see the former. Modern-era music artists have really taken to expressing their on-stage credentials through their choice of clothing and, no one has done this better than the eccentric, ‘Black Barbie’ embracing Nicki Minaj. With her bubblegum pink hair, copious amounts of bust-flashing, a conversation starting derriere and food-inspired […]

Get the Look: Rita Ora in Hussein Chalayan

Rita Ora first hit the MFL when she turned up at the Vivienne Westwood Red Label show at London Fashion Week looking super-cool in a tailored blue-grey trouser suit, red lippie and shades. Since then her retro-fabulous style has been catching our eye all over the place; from the Brit Awards to her evenings in London. Being Jay-Z’s latest protégée does nothing to harm her street cred, but we think her style merits its own respect.  Appearing at the NME Awards, Rita looked like a vision in white wearing a Hussein Chalayan trouser suit from the designer’s S/S 12 collection. She paired the masculine-inspired look with a spiked Christian Louboutin ‘Marquise’ Python Clutch and a gorgeous pair of nude B Brian Atwood ‘Bambola’ pumps. She might have looked a million bucks but, thankfully, we have tracked down pieces which will let you get the look for less. 1. Calling Apollo Jacket:This draped jacket from French Connection is the epitome of laid-back chic… £172, available at French Connection. 2. Farhi by Nicole Farhi White Stretch Trousers: These Nicole Farhi are a perfect summer staple and look just as good in the evening as in the day…£135, available at my-wardrobe. 3. Sultry High Platform Courts: We can’t believe these leg-lengthening nude pumps aren’t designer…£65, available at Topshop. 4. Diane Von Furstenberg Harper Clutch: Rock up the look with this Diane Von Furstenberg clutch. We love the metal hardware and tassel details… £355, available at Matches.

Monday Musings: The things rattling our fashion brains on the hardest day of the week

Kanye West returns to Paris Fashion Week Yes! And how hotly anticipated his return is at My Fashion Life HQ, we can’t even begin to tell you. We love a little stir in the fashion cauldron every now and then, and a stir follows wherever controversial hip hop mogul West goes. After a questionable debut last season in Paris, Kanye West is set to shut critics’ mouths by showcasing a second round of his sartorial ‘skills’ on Tuesday. Let’s hope this time the collection is editorial-worthy and doesn’t end up being ‘rap with a capital C.’ Ouch. Lana Del Rey’s wardrobe woes Her voice mesmerises us, but her dress sense is cringes-worthy. It is intolerable. After seeing a picture of Lana arriving at Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont sporting her namesake Mulberry bag and wearing a white ruffled dress teamed with unflattering Adidas trainers, we needed a moment to contemplate this style monstrosity. Why Lana?! The Video Games singer clearly needs a lesson in how to channel this season’s athletic trend the right way. Jamie Hince feels ‘awkward’ at fashion shows Kate Moss’s rocker husband squirms in his seat when on the FROW watching what are the best moments in fashion unfold before his eyes. Sat next to his wife – who happens to be the world’s most recognised face – Jamie isn’t too fond of this liberty. We just think your being ungrateful, Mr. Hince. After all, the runway is where your wife made her millions, and quite frankly, we’d give an arm, leg and organ to rub shoulders front row with fashion royalty. There, we said it. Paris Fashion Week: Chanel Fall 2012 show Oh how we can’t wait! Having taken us on an underwater odyssey for spring/summer 2012, will Kaiser Karl Lagerfeld shoot upwards in the opposite direction, and […]

Paris Fashion Week: Day 5

Let’s get down on our knees and praise Vivienne Westwood and Jean Paul Gaultier for the gorgeous display of colour that has been lacking in many designer collections this season. It wasn’t all hugs and rainbows though; much of Vivienne’s collection was influenced by those good old historic times (Elizabethan and Edwardian in particular) that Ms Westwood draws a lot of her inspiration from, making it another wonderfully British collection. And kudos to the model who rode a bicycle down the catwalk! Over at Jean Paul Gaultier, in amongst the bright and colourful ensembles, was an abundance of fur, knits and puffer jackets. And it looks like he went for a less controversial theme this season round. If you cast your minds back to just a few months ago, his Couture collection was heavily influenced by the late Amy Winehouse, which may have been loved by some (us, included) but wasn’t well received by his muse’s family. We felt that Rei Kawakubo’s Comme des Garcons presentation was one of the most surreal shows we have seen this autumn/winter 2012 season, as the models came out looking almost cartoon-like in their stiff multi-dimensional dresses and lego-esque hair. Now that John Galliano’s former intern Haider Ackermann’s name has been thrown into the Dior creative director equation, his latest collection is probably his most important yet. Luckily for him, he did a marvelous job, presenting a collection that he said was inspired by the colour of autumn leaves. We loved the layering and the styling as a whole, too; we honestly can’t fault it! Katy Perry was among the front-rowers at Viktor & Rolf which surprised us, seeing as there wasn’t a bubblegum or candy floss coloured garment in sight for the collection that was allegedly inspired by the moon. The colours may not have been to Katy’s […]

Our Top 3 to Watch at London Fashion Week!

Here at MFL we are super excited about the prospect of London Fashion Week and can’t wait to see what the crème de la crème of British design has in store for us. However, we have to admit, it can be a bit of a minefield deciding who we should be focusing on. After all, there are around 100 designers showing this year! That being said, there are three shows in particular we shall not be missing. They are the designers we get most excited about; the most talked about, the most exciting and the most creative. Here are our top three ones to watch… BURBERRY PRORSUM It pretty much goes without saying, but the bi-annual Burberry Prorsum shows have become major events in the national style calendar. It is a brand which makes us proud to be British and captures the imagination of the whole world. We can’t wait to see what Christopher Bailey has in store this time round. Of course, we can’t go without mentioning the amazing Tweetwalk happening again for the second time. Ingeniously, now Burberry’s twitter followers can view the collection even before it heads out on the runway! CHRISTOPHER KANE The genius that is Christopher Kane never fails to get us lusting after his new collections. Even now, seasons later, we are still yearning for his 2011 Resort Collection galaxy print dresses. And don’t even get us started on those A/W 10 floral embroidered leather jackets. Sigh. Iconic pieces in their own right, his collections never fail to cause a stir. As one of the most unique talents in British fashion, Christopher Kane’s show definitely can’t be missed. VIVIENNE WESTWOOD As the matriarch of British fashion, Vivienne Westwood’s shows are always a lesson in how it’s done. Her collections are a feast for the eyes and the […]

They have the power to insert glamour into any outfit and can take your evening wear from zero to hero in under a minute. Here are our top five… 1. We completely love this multi-stone ring from Freedom at Topshop. Made from brown and red semi-precious stones and delicate rhinestones it’s cute enough to glam up any outfit. Freedom Multi-stone Ring, £16.50, available at Topshop. 2. This gorgeous trinket from Dannijo features a brass ring and huge Swarovski crystal embellishment. Futuristic, geometric and uber-sparkly…we love! Best of all, it’s an absolute steal in the sale. Dannijo Paula Ring, £194 £58, available at My-wardrobe. 3. Yves Saint Laurent is famed for their exquisite cocktail rings and we can totally see why. The cobalt blue enamel flower offsets the bright yellow ring beautifully. Definitely a keeper… Yves Saint Laurent Arty Flower Ring, £159, available at My Theresa, 4. We love Vivienne Westwood jewellery and have completely fallen for this red embellished heart ring. Featuring a silver ring, red inlaid heart and crystal embellished orb, it is a real eye-catcher. Vivienne Westwood Red Embellished Heart Ring, £126, available at My-wardrobe. 5. Erin Wasson’s rock ‘n’ roll jewellery collection for Low Luv is to die for. This triple crystal cocktail ring is outrageously glam and we need it now! Keeping our pins warm during the chilly months and adding interest to our legs with the many textures and hues available, we are unashamedly in love with wearing opaques. And since we’ll be wearing hosiery a lot over the next few months, we think it’s important to invest in good quality when picking out our pin-warmers for the season. This is where Wolford comes in: known for luxury and quality, the brand is one of the most long-standing and creative hosiery suppliers around, collaborating with a wide range of designers (Vivienne Westwood, Karl Lagerfeld) and even interior designers (Philipp Starck). We don’t think you can go far wrong with a pair of Wolford’s Admiral velvet de luxe 66 tights. In a soft matte velvet with just enough flash of skin, these are as stylish as stockings can get! Plus, the quality finish will ensure that they’ll stay ladder free throughout the tight-wearing season ahead, an essential basic for every girl’s winter wardrobe. Wolford Admiral Velvet De Luxe 66 Tights, £22, available at Stylebop.

Mou: the stylish alternative to Uggs?

Today’s conundrum is, in fact, the same debate we’ve been facing for years. Uggs: do or die? According to your reactions of today’s love or hate, you’re all in the latter camp. So what would you say if we told you there was an alternative to Uggs that offer all the warmth and comfort you crave, and actually look kinda cool too? Meet Mou, fashion’s best-kept secret. All the editors wear them, the most prestigious stores stock them and the stars are flocking for them – they just don’t want you to cotton on the cosiest things your feet will ever wear. We must point out that Mou isn’t a new label – in fact, it started life in 2002 on a stall at London’s Portabello market and quickly became the boot of choice for celebs (Gwyneth Paltrow and Cameron Diaz, to name a few) – but it is a relatively recent addition to our radar. And that’s because last week we met Mou’s founder and, for the first time, fondled the boots up close and personal while wondering why the hell we’d be missing out on these for so many years. Born out of a dream to create original, luxurious footwear to counteract the pressures of modern city-living, Shelley Tichborne’s cult boots may look similar to Uggs, but there’s one resounding difference – they have a distinctly luxe feel thanks to their sumptuous fabrics (try treated leather, calfskin or gorgeously soft goatskin) that means you don’t actually mind being spotted in them. And for the new season, Mou’s signature soft-snug styles have taken on some seriously stylish details – chunky leather buckles that create a cosy alternative to Westwood’s pirate boots, eskimo styles with metallic finishes and contrast stitching that look like luxe versions of a traditional snow boot, […]

Nicola Roberts channels Rapunzel with the longest plait ever (probably)

Nicola Roberts is becoming progressively more experimental with her sartorial choices by the season, and though she never quite stole the Style Queen crown from Cheryl Cole, to us, she’s always been ‘the stylish one from Girls Aloud’. We love that she embraced red hair, that she made pale actually interesting and that she’s not afraid of a bit of Westwood flare. And hell, we love a fairytale as much as the next Disney Princess, but we draw the line at ankle-skimming plaits. But so it was that Nicola Roberts decided to do her best Rapunzel impression at G-A-Y over the weekend, wearing a lip-printed T-shirt, multi-coloured diamond check hotpants – complete with a pom pom hem and oversized versions on the bum – pink and orange tiger print boots and the longest plait we’ve ever seen. Ok, so it’s G-A-Y, we get there needs to be a certain level of eccentricity, but the booties and super-sized plait ruin what is, for us, an otherwise brilliantly fun look. What do you think of Nicola’s colour clashing ensemble? Does she look cute and cool or deliriously over-done? [poll id=”208″]

Paloma Faith goes patch-print crazy

We love how Paloma Faith continues to push the boundaries in fashion. She works the wackiness of Gaga with the wearability of the catwalk, sprinkled with a touch of her own individual style spice. The singer was papped wearing a silver and gold applique Glair dress from the autumn/winter 2011 Vivienne Westwood Gold Label collection as she attended the Blackberry 7 launch in London this week. What’s more, in her signature anything-goes style, Paloma combined leopard print leggings, glitter Jeffrey Campbell Lolita boots, a gold apple hat and a suitably massive quiff with the ensemble. In terms of the metallic trend for the new season, Paloma is bang on with her mis-matched quirky look – but was she right to go all-out wacky, or should she have toned it down a little? 10 beauty looks we loved from London Fashion Week

If there’s one place you can guarantee a designer’s look will extend all the way to their face, it’s London Fashion Week. Whether it’s Vivienne Westwood smudging rainbow colours across their cheeks or Erdem allowing them to remain romantically natural, here the models don’t just wear a look, they work it. And so, it’s only fair that we dedicate a little attention to best beauty looks we spied at London’s spring 2012 shows. Below, behold the 10 beauty looks we loved from London Fashion Week – and hey, why wait ’til next spring to try ’em? We can’t wait to give these a go now. Rose-bitten lips at Erdem Why: Who could resist this undone, romantic look? Wine-stained lips at Giles Why: Similar to Erdem’s but a little naughtier, we love the one-glass-too-many look (not least because we can guzzle a glass of wine without guilt). Elfin au naturale at Christopher Kane Why: Plain has never looked so pretty. Modern Forties smokiness at Marios Schwab Why: A cool update on the always-favourite smoky eye. Bright popping lips at Mary Katrantzou Why: Modern, fresh and simple – we’re loving Katrantzou’s popping pink and orange lips. We’re quite fond of the blue, too (even if they do look a little frozen). Colour craziness at Vivienne Westwood Why: Ok, so we might not actually try this one, but how fun does it look? Candy-floss streaks in Sixties bouffants at Mulberry Why: Volumised Sixties ‘dos are updated with candy-coloured streaks in pale pink, lemon and blue. Glitter-smudged eyes and dark berry lips at Ashish Why: The perfect disco eyes? We think so! The Nineties dark lips are a great way to make party makeup look cool, too. Strong metallic eyes and muted lips at Todd Lynn Why: Fresh and futuristic. We love the blue, […]

Get the Look: Emma Watson in McQ

Emma Watson looked super-cool when she rocked up at the 2011 GQ Men of the Year Awards recently. While many of her contemporaries often look much older than their years at red carpet events, the 21-year-old looked fresh, young and carefree. We like – a lot. Her flirty Alexander McQueen tartan mini dress and leather biker jacket combo went down a storm and was the perfect outfit for the occasion. She finished the look with a pair of studded Christian Louboutin Pigalle heels, slicked back hair and minimal makeup. If you loved Emma’s punky look, good news – with a few key pieces, your inner rock chick can come out to play. Try a dress with a flared-out skirt for ultimate fashion kudos. We suggest going all out with this drop-dead-gorgeous Vivienne Westwood Anglomania dress for a flirtier edge. Vivienne Westwood Anglomania Pink Marghi Dress, £365, available at my-wardrobe.com.   Of course, this look would be nothing without a trusty biker jacket. This new-season design from Vince will last you year after year – we love its quilted accents. Leather biker jacket, £165, available at Oasis.   These Sam Edelman heels might not be Louboutins but they are simply magnificent none the less: Sam Edelman Black Lorissa Studded Heels, £182, available at my-wardrobe.

Jason Wu designs shoes for Melissa

Apart from raspberry flavour, footwear label Melissa’s jelly is probably our favourite kind. But, you know, that’s about to be topped (and with something far better than icecream) – Jason Wu has designed a limited edition collection for the Brazilian company.
