The different faces of fashion snobbery

Along with next season’s offerings, this week has been filled with tales of an adventurous nature. Kim Kardashian has been a frequenter on my social media timeline, as has comeback couturier, John Galliano. So what’s the connection between the two, you ask? One of fashion snobbery and its many faces, I say. It was reported earlier this week that Kim Kardashian’s shoot for the March issue of ELLE US was, to a certain extent, hampered ever so slightly by the lack of designer pieces her stylist was able to pull. The stylist in question, Nicola Formichetti, is Lady Gaga’s fashion friend and creative director of Mugler, and a fashion force to be reckoned with in the industry. So, why the problem to pull pieces for a relatively standard shoot for someone of Formichetti’s fashion calibre? Well, his explanation was Kim’s ‘not the ‘It’ girl yet, but she will be’. Really? I guess this comes down to how we define the term ‘‘It’ girl’. With a public profile such as Kim Kardashian’s (given that major brands thrive off even bigger personalities) and her major outreach to an extended fan base (she surely has partial support and love from Kanye’s fans, too) that amounts to a Twitter following in excess of 17 million, it shouldn’t be impossible to figure out. Isn’t an ‘It’ girl emblazoned across everything, everywhere (cue: previously relatively unknown Cara Delevingne now tipped as the next Karlie Kloss/Kate Moss)? Isn’t her name supposed to roll off every tongue, appearance shift a thousand products and boyfriend supposed to be the world’s number one rapper? An argument about Kim’s rapidly expanding curves seemed to have seeped into the conversation, but people like Kate Upton would void such an idea. After all, hips or no hips, Upton isn’t the average size zero […]

New York Fashion Week AW13 highlights from Monique Lhuillier, Victoria Beckham, Alexander Wang & more

It was a busy, busy weekend in the Big Apple, as designers continued to showcase their autumn/winter 2013 offerings as part of New York Fashion Week. Victoria Beckham went for longer lengths for the colder season, but avoided the collection being glum by ensuring there was plenty of colour in there too – there were some particularly loud yellow pieces in there that we think will translate onto the pavements quite nicely. We were pretty excited to see what new Balenciaga creative director Alexander Wang had up his sleeve for his eponymous label, and we weren’t disappointed. Pretty easy to see why the designer was chosen for the job if his latest collection is anything to go by. Fuzzy, furry and hairy are words we can associate with his latest range, which is pretty apt considering the weather.  The colour palette was predominantly in the grey zone, and silhouettes were baggy, oversized and generally forgiving. Monique Lhuillier gave us stunning cocktail and eveningwear dresses (above), as expected, with a few luxury outerwear pieces thrown in the mix for good measure, and the DKNY collection was laden with fun and funky pieces fit for the coolest of fashionistas. Lots of statement prints and bold colours – and a drool-worthy coat modelled by Miss Cara Delevingne! Prabal Gurung’s collection was another stand-out one for us – we love the strong military presence and the pristine, fine tailoring. Couture Fashion Week highlights from Jean Paul Gaultier, Elie Saab and Valentino

Quite a lot of Couture Fashion Week highlights to get through this afternoon, so let’s crack right on. Elie Saab, Jean Paul Gaultier and Valentino all presented their Spring Couture collections in Paris, and we’ve selected a few of our fave looks from each show. Jean Paul Gaultier loves a good theme when it comes to his collections – this time round he was inspired by the gypsies of Rajasthan, India, which was very evident in the rich colours, vibrant patterns, intricate detailing and heavy embroidery. We love the voluminous beehives and the reworked edition of the cone bra, too – a JPG classic! Elie Saab did as Elie Saab does and blew everyone away with the sheer romanticism and fairytale elegance of his collection. An abundance of sheer, lace, sequin and pastel red carpet worthy dresses for those all-important Oscars, not to mention editorial content for upcoming fashion glossy pages. We don’t think this collection should be overlooked for upcoming A-lister weddings either! Finally, Valentino was simply magical with some of the most finely crafted, perfectly sculpted pieces we’ve ever laid eyes upon. We’re glad the Valentino-approved florals remained in the collection, with the flirty structured dress Cara Delevingne stepped out in being one of our favourites. Elie Saab  Valentino

Watch Romeo Beckham have the time of his life in Burberry’s SS13 vid

More footage of Romeo Beckham posing for Burberry has surfaced, and quite frankly we can’t seem to get enough. Looking the spit of his gene-perfect parents, Romeo is posing up a storm and wreaking some playful havoc on the set of the new Burberry spring/summer 2013 ads. It doesn’t look like young Romeo was taking modelling tips from his dear old mum Victoria Beckham either, as he is not only cracking a smile throughout the entire video, but genuinely seems like he is having a whale of a time. And what 10-year-old wouldn’t enjoy larking around on the set of an ad campaign for one of the biggest luxury brands in the world, hm? Oh and the fact that top Brit models Cara Delevingne and Edie Campbell were also present probably didn’t do any harm, either! This video definitely proves that Posh and Becks didn’t force their son into it against his will… his smile, energy and overall zest speak volumes, don’t they? Fingers crossed the next set of ads features this Beckham boy, too – he’s a natural! http://youtu.be/87556Xu5nnU [Styleite]

Romeo Beckham is the new face of Burberry!

Christmas has officially come early, as we have been treated to the brand spanking new Burberry spring/summer 2013 ad campaign which only ruddy well features 10-year-old Romeo Beckham in it! David and Victoria Beckham’s son was shot by Mario Testino, and is starring alongside Burberry regulars Cara Delevingne, Edie Campbell, Charlotte Wiggins, Charlie France, Alex Dunstan and Max Rendel in the campaign. And we have to say that he is not only holding his own among the modelling pros, but he is pretty much stealing the show. It’s hardly surprising though – he has been blessed with David and Victoria’s genes after all! Hands up if you thought Harper would be the first one from the Beckham brood to make a modelling debut… and hands up if you thought it would be for Victoria Beckham’s own collection… Check out  the Beckham boy and the rest of the Burberry beauties in action below. Who won what at the 2012 British Fashion Awards…

Back in September, we revealed all the nominations for the prestigious 2012 British Fashion Awards, and now it’s time to find out which designers, models and fashion personalities walked away with accolades at last night’s event. The main prize was of course the coveted Designer of the Year award, with Stella McCartney, Mary Katrantzou and Christopher Kane battling it out against each other. Despite the blatant stiff competition, it was Stella McCartney who walked away with the prize, so a massive congratulations for all her achievements this year – and overall! Although we can’t argue the fact that both Mary Katrantzou and Christopher Kane have had tremendous years – probably the best in their careers so far – our money was on Stella from the start; we think the Olympics sealed the deal for her! And if the most coveted award of the night wasn’t enough for Ms McCartney, she also walked away with the Designer Brand of the Year gong! As you may have worked out, we are quite fond of 20-year-old Cara Delevingne, which is why we couldn’t be happier to learn that she was crowned Best Model. Another My Fashion Life favourite is Alexa Chung, who was the well-deserved recipient of the British Style award! Congrats, ladies! We also need to congratulate the wonderful Erdem Moralioglu for winning the New Establishment award, and Roksanda Illincic for picking up the Red Carpet award. JW Anderson and Jonathan Saunders also deserve a round of applause for walking away with the respective Emerging Talent (ready-to-wear) and Emerging Talent (mensweaer) awards. As we told you a few weeks ago, Manolo Blahnik was awarded with the Outstanding Achievement accolade, while Harold Tillman CBE, picked up a Special Recognition prize. Phew! 2012 has been an incredible year for British fashion; a huge congratulations […]

What happened at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2012…

Here it is guys, the post you’ve been waiting so patiently for… the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2012 details and pictures! Classic Victoria’s Secret Angel Adriana Lima – who only gave birth a few months ago if you can believe it – kicked off the show by stepping out onto the beautifully decorated catwalk first. An abundance of the most gorgeous, sexiest and expertly selected models then followed her lead until newbie Toni Garrn eventually closed the show once all the Angels and singers had done their thing. And speaking of singers… Bajan sauce-pot Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars provided the musical entertainment for the evening, while Alessandra Ambrosio was given the honour of showcasing this year’s Fantasy bra. What do you think of her efforts below? And as we mentioned earlier this week, this year saw the Victoria’s Secret debut of two of our favourite young British models Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn. We think they did a cracking job bringing a touch of Britishness to the proceedings, and we love how they showcased young, fun and quirky clothes as opposed to just lingerie. Karlie Kloss, who made her VS debut last year, looked like she had been walking on the Victoria’s Secret runway all her life, showcasing a variety of different, diverse but very sexy looks. We can’t get enough of her, and it’s not hard to see why the modelling world can’t either. And obviously all of the classic Victoria’s Secret Angels were present too, with the likes of Miranda Kerr, Candice Swanepoel, Erin Heatherton, Lily Aldridge and Doutzen Kroes being just some of the familiar faces making an appearance. Not only was the show an ultra-glamorous affair, but it was also a pretty charitable one too, as Victoria’s Secret and CBS reportedly donated $1 million […]

Mulberry celebrates Tim Walker’s Story Teller exhibit

Aside from creating some of the finest British luxury fashion, one of the things that Mulberry knows how to do best is throw a party. And throw a party it did! To celebrate the fab new Tim Walker Story Teller exhibition at Somerset House, Mulberry’s Emma Hill and the photographer himself hosted a fab party at the venue, which was attended by some very special famous faces. The exclusive guest list included the likes of Kate Moss, Helena Bonham Carter, Tim Burton, Cara Delevingne (whose Beetlejuice inspired trousers we love, by the way!), Bonnie Wright and Erdem Moralioglu among others, where they were treated to a private view of the exhibition and even a performance by hot British band Friendly Fires. Don’t forget, the photographer’s Story Teller exhibit opens from today at Somerset House, so make sure you make time to head down there to check out the mind-blowing pieces, including the picture above which is just one of our many faves!

Jourdan Dunn to host online cooking show

If stereotypes are anything to go by, you wouldn’t think that a runway model would be that interested in food would you? With that in mind, this bit of news may surprise you. British supermodel Jourdan Dunn – who along with pal Cara Delevingne have more or less dominated the catwalks this spring/summer 2013 season – is set to host an online cooking show with Jay Z which goes by the very apt name of – wait for it – Well Dunn with Jourdan Dunn. How good does that sound? Can we get an additional round of applause for the sheer awesomeness of that name as well, please? And may we suggest giving whoever thought of that name a pay rise? Thank you! If her previous tweets about food and cooking are anything to go by, we think we’re going to be in for a real treat. You can catch Jourdan Dunn’s show on YouTube – Jay Z’s YouTube channel to be exact. Let us know your thoughts!

Paris Fashion Week SS13 kicks off!

Last but by no means least, Paris Fashion Week is finally here! The models have officially made their way from the catwalks of Milan to those of Paris to showcase some of the biggest spring/summer 2013 collections in the industry – all kicking off with the likes of Dries Van Noten, Rochas, Mugler, Gareth Pugh and Balenciaga. Nicola Formichetti didn’t disappoint us with his latest outing for Mugler, and we were actually pleasantly surprised by the slightly new direction he took with his latest collection. Silhouettes were slightly more relaxed (but the structure, complexity and definition was certainly not lost in the process) and the vibe was more feminine than that of past seasons. Marco Zanini’s collection for Rochas however didn’t go down as well as he had hoped, although we think the simpler, sixties inspired pieces will translate onto the high street quite nicely. Cara Delevingne’s red mini skirt in particular looks like it’s going to be a new-season must-have! Gareth Pugh’s collection was predictable with its sense of unpredictability, and we once again witnessed a monochrome colour palette with some bold, vampy red pieces thrown in there for good measure. What Gareth lacks in colour he certainly makes up for in material – there was plenty of leather that would make the job of the guys in wardrobe for True Blood really easy. Balenciaga definitely has to be our early favourite from Paris, and not just because a much happier looking Kristen Stewart was perched on the front row. We can envisage her in a large proportion of the outfits though – the boxy crop tops and mini skirts in particular. When you’re young and have a body like Kristen’s those styles are perfect to strut along the red carpet in. The black and pink dress to the […]

Milan Fashion Week SS13 highlights – Part 4

So Milan Fashion Week is over for yet another season, but not before we’ve had a chance to glance at and digest the final looks from the spring/summer 2013 catwalks. Roberto Cavalli and Dsquared² ensured that MFW finished off in style, as they both presented gorgeous – but very different – collections. We loved everything Dsquared² presented this season – both of Cara Delevingne’s looks in particular were real highlights for us. We’d probably have to give up carbs for life to rock some of the skimpier, more risqué outfits, but the show has certainly given us a lot to think about. Layered chunky accessories Anna Dello Russo style, some Fifty Shades of Grey inspired bondage pieces, structured garments, loud shoulder pads – we can definitely incorporate all of this into our new season wardrobes. Another Fashion Month fave for sure! On the other scale of the spring/summer 2013 collections, Roberto Cavalli went for graceful, elegant and angelic – a real contrast to his edgier, more contemporary and playful Just Cavalli line that we showed you yesterday. Just because it had an angelic opening though, doesn’t mean it was all innocence… au contraire, the latter part of the show comprised of all-black pieces with a very sexy edge to them. It brought new meaning to the term “cut-out”. Plus there was far too much skin on show for it to ever really be deemed pure. Still, a gorgeous collection from a brilliant man… the perfect way to close Milan Fashion Week!

First look at the Katie Grand for Hogan collaboration!

Saying that we love a good collaboration is a bit of an understatement, so we don’t even need to tell you how thrilled we were when we heard that Love magazine’s editor-in-chief Katie Grand would be teaming up with Hogan for a special capsule collection. Katie’s debut collection is entitled ‘Gang by Hogan’, and features some bright, vivid and very colourful accessories, including high-top trainers with a subtle wedge in them, slippers, sunglasses, bags and more. Remember that time Cheryl Cole wore some wedge trainers and we all went a bit wild for them? Well we reckon the colourful Katie Grand for Hogan ones are the cutest ones we have seen to date, and you can bet your bottom Dollar that we’ll be snapping them up when they go on sale next year. Katie Grand has enlisted the help of 14 top models, including the likes of Cara Delevingne, Alessandra Ambrosio, Edie Campbell, Dree Hemingway and Linda Evangelista to model the pieces, so keep your eyes peeled for their pics in a special one-off publication dedicated to the collection. The Gang collection hits Hogan stores in January 2013… which pieces are you lusting after?

First look: Burberry Prorsum’s SS11 campaign

It’s a well known fact that luxury British label Burberry Prorsum is no stranger to haute heritage clothing – after all, nothing screams London style like a good tailored trench – so it comes as no surprise that it’s chosen the great British landscape to play backdrop in its latest campaign for SS11. But with Emma Watson and Rosie Huntingdon-Whiteley nowhere to be seen, Burberry’s swapped its fashion-forward ambassadors in favour of up-coming British models Cara Delevingne (Poppy’s younger sister, who’s biggest feat so far has been ASOS, FYI) and Jacob Young to kick start its summer satorials. Shot by world renowned photographer Mario Testino, the images see the two models looking nonchalant on a rather dismal looking Brighton beach – we suspect those pebbles weren’t the most pleasurable of props – and aim to give you the total Burberry experience by showcasing everything from its Prorsum, London, Brit and accessories collections together. Phew. But it doesn’t end there – the evolving summer campaign is the first of its kind for Burberry, with new faces rolling out each month from now until May, giving surely one of the most coveted platforms for young models-in-the-making. “We wanted to create a dynamic, evolving campaign that reflects the diversity of our broad global consumer, revealing new British cast members each month, all with their own identity, embodying the different attitudes of the Burberry guy and girl,” says Christopher Bailey. “We shot the campaign on Brighton beach to celebrate the great British outdoors and our history of supporting emerging talent and to bring to life the emotion behind protection from the elements.’’ An interesting concept indeed. Is an Eyebrow Transplant the Answer For Gorgeous Hollywood Brows?

It seems as though eyebrows are everywhere these days. From aisles of products so that you can shape, fill, and draw on your own to the love for Cara Delevigne’s big, fluffy brows, the country’s gone mad for the strips of hair above our eyes – and for good reason, too! Eyebrows shape the face, giving it definition and helping us look and feel our best, especially when we look after them. But, if you think your brows are a little patchy or thin, you might find your confidence taking a hit. To help you solve your brow problems and get back to taking on the world, here’s everything you need to know about getting a transplant. Why Get an Eyebrow Transplant? If you’re not happy with your eyebrows, you’ll probably know that there are tons of products out there that let you fill them in yourself.  Whilst these are great, they’re definitely not a long-term solution – you can’t waste hours of your life drawing on your brows, and what happens when it’s time to take the makeup off?  We all want to feel our best, with and without makeup, which is where eyebrow transplants come in. By getting a transplant, you’ll be able to get up in the morning and be ready to face the day before you’ve even brushed your brows, saving you a ton of time and boosting your confidence.  What You Can Expect Before you decide whether you want a transplant, let’s look a little more at just what to expect. The most common procedure is FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction), which is where the individual hair follicles are removed from an area behind the ears. This procedure is preferred by many patients as it means there is no scarring to worry about, and it can […]

Rihanna Covers The September Issue Of British Vogue

To put it simply, the September issue of British Vogue is stunning. Featuring Rihanna adorned with a floral headpiece and sporting super-thin eyebrows, the cover marks the first time a black woman has fronted the most coveted September issue in the history of the magazine.  Shot by Nick Knight and styled by editor-in-chief Edward Enninful, the images inside the fashion bible are just as gorgeous. However the talking point seems to be the singer’s eyebrows which were infact the brainchild of Enninful and were beautifully executed by makeup artist Isamaya Ffrench.  On choosing Rihanna for the September cover, Enninful said in his editor’s letter, “I always knew it had to be Rihanna.” He continued, “A fearless music-industry icon and businesswoman, when it comes to that potent mix of fashion and celebrity, nobody does it quite like her.” We couldn’t agree more!

Terry Richardson defends those sexual misconduct allegations

Terry Richardson’s alleged sexual antics have been in the press a lot more than usual these past few weeks, but the photographer has finally spoken out all the sexual misconduct allegations after refusing to do so many years ago when the rumours first surfaced… “At that time, I felt that to dignify them with a response was a betrayal of my work and my character,” he wrote. “When these allegations resurfaced over the past few months, they seemed especially vicious and distorted, moving outside the realm of critical dialogue and becoming nothing more than an emotionally-charged witch hunt. Over the course of my career, I have come to accept that some of my more provocative work courts controversy, and as an artist, I value the discourse that arises from this. I can only hope for this discourse to be informed by fact, so that whether you love my work or hate it, you give it, and me, the benefit of the truth.” The letter he wrote doesn’t actually deny that sexual activity between the photographers and his models took place, although it does insinuate that it was all consensual. Where do you stand? [Grazia]

Sibling rivalry: Which Kardashian deserves to land an American Vogue cover?

“To be in Vogue has to mean something,” stated Anna Wintour, and, well, she’s speaking the biblical truth. Campaigning for this prestigious right are two siblings from the world’s most talked about family/klan, depending on how you prefer to address them. Kim Kardashian – the queen of Céline separates and Tom Ford pieces so tight, they create curves ever she didn’t know existed– has kept the fashion set (and herself) guessing whether the coveted prize of cover girl shall be hers (let’s not forget, she’s already been L’uomo-d). From a lobbying partner, whom eventually got his beau to make an unforgettable entrance at the 2013 MET Gala – an event she had previously been banned from by Her Majesty Anna Wintour – to befriending Carine Roitfeld and scoring couture pieces (and front row seats) in Paris, earlier this year; Kim isn’t playing games, she’s ruddy serious. But then again, so is her twee-faced, doe-eyed, long-limbed sibling, Kendall Jenner. The upcoming model has been scoring some fashion hot seats of late. From a nipple-on-show performance at the Marc Jacobs autumn/winter 2014 show to walking for Giles in the Big Smoke, sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with Anna Wintour at the Topshop Unique show and posing for a certified selfie with Delevingne and gang backstage; junior Jenner’s sure as hell making her mark in notable fashion circles.  And, all sans sexual controversies, slip-ups and stunts. So, who will be victorious in the race to win Wintour’s (steely) heart, and be the first to grace the glossy covers of the world’s most highly regarded fashion tome? Below, our strongest arguments for putting either sibling on the cover of American Vogue- or both, if Wintour’s feeling generous… Why Kim Kardashian? Luxury-appreciation factor: Kim sure knows the wow factor value of pairing the luxurious, most expensive of wardrobe pieces together […]

WATCH: LFW AW14 highlights from Temperley London, Mary Katrantzou & more

MARY KATRANTZOU AW14 COLLECTION She may have been dubbed the digital print queen by way of her hypnotising design USP of seasons past, but Mary Katrantzou took a refreshing detour this season. Dizzying print work was replaced by symbols that held a deeper meaning; school badges, medals, clock faces, a coat of arms all made an appearance, intricately embroidered onto fuzzy sweatshirts, patchworked onto maxi skirts and running down pleated gowns to resemble a holy vestment. Suits cut in jacquard are set to become the fashion set’s new favourites, and one in particular – a bird-print skirt suit with pleated gym-skirt – demanded attention. Delicate slips dresses with hook straps featured a metal mesh adorned with gold-tone hearts, squares and pearls, tricking onlookers into believing they were admiring an art installation. Well, we were certainly in awe. TEMPERLEY LONDON AW14 COLLECTION Temperley London may hail from the leafy enclaves of Somerset, but, designer Alice Temperley didn’t stick to the quiet side for autumn/winter ’14. Bringing her signature decorative style to the table, Byzantine architecture-inspired prints were splashed across unbuttoned coats, tightly belted at the waist. Pretty skirt suits were updated with a boxier silhouette, while stained glass-imitating laser prints prettily played out across red carpet worthy dresses. New for this season, however, was the concept of layering luxe evening looks: an oversize fur stole in a fluffy peach hue was breathtaking over a shawl and barely there gown; while neck scarves, outerwear and shawls daubed in striking floral prints were the accessory du jour to seek protection from the winter chill. Just perfect. RICHARD NICOLL AW14 COLLECTION As blue emerges to be the hue of the hour for next season, Richard Nicoll didn’t hold back in feeding our appetite for the coldest shade-gone-hot. School girl attire-gone-haute was the message here, […]

Stuart Vevers gets Reed Krakoff’s Coach job

There’s been a giant question mark over at Coach as far as its new creative director was concerned, but not anymore, as Reed Krakoff’s replacement has finally been announced. And it’s none other than British accessory designer Stuart Vevers! Is there isn’t Stuart hasn’t done? Currently the executive creative director at Loewe, where he has been for over five years, he also worked at Mulberry before Emma Hill took over, as well as Calvin Klein and Bottega Veneta. He even helped create Mulberry’s infamous, iconic Gisele bag! “Stuart is recognised as one of the world’s leading accessories designers,” said Coach president Victor Luis. His passion, leadership skills and broad luxury brand experience, focused on leather goods, uniquely qualify him to lead the next chapter of Coach. “I am confident that his creative expertise – grounded in accessories – will enable him to draw upon Coach’s rich history to create innovative product and brand imagery, elevating the customer experience and creating a fuller expression of the brand.” We’re pretty confident too; especially if he brings some of that Gisele-making magic to the brand. The $68,000 dress: Saint Laurent’s golden shot, or just plain ridiculous?

OK, so we’ve discussed the $35,000 backpack and gawked at the £160,000 nail varnish, but when a certain designer with a habit of irking many in the industry gets in on the action, you begin to question the ‘normality’ of your lifestyle against the lifestyle of those for whom these extortionate products are created. Well, what we’re trying to say is: who needs a $68,000 dress? It’s not an intricate wedding gown, nor is it a couture piece, so why the horrifying price tag? Said dress is an embellished baby doll dress from the Saint Laurent Fall 2013 collection, and modelled by face-of-the-moment, Cara Delevinge in the accompanying campaign. But we sniff an ulterior motive, one that’ll only help escalate Brand Slimane (not Saint Laurent) higher. After giving us a $61,000, predominantly polyester jacket (sacrilegious coming from a purveyor of luxury), we thought Slimane would calm down the flamboyant antics, and carry on quietly battling the voices in his head advising him who to ban from his spring/summer 2014 show. But instead, he upped the annoyance ante with a dress to match, and now we’re left wondering whether we’ll ever take the creative director seriously again. His fall 2013 show sparked heated debate in the industry, given his knack for earth-shattering change, but we feel his most recent ploy seems set to alienate people from the chic French fashion house. For many of us Yves Saint Laurent was the epitome of Parisian glamour, giving us iconic, uncompromising looks that have stuck. But it seems Slimane is bent on overhauling the smoky, decadent mystery we’ve always associated with the fashion house, and, along with the ostentatious dress, nothing proves this to more true than the opening of the new store in Soho, New York; a stripped back abode for a more […]

Fashion Charts: 5 things going up, and 5 things going down this month

Going up Festival beauty: Suddenly, we’re all raving in fields and bubblegum blue mascara is perfectly acceptable. Festival season’s taking over, but it does come with its downfalls. Lack of hot showers and long queues for toilets can bring out the worst in use, but there isn’t much that pink semi-permanent hair colour, bright eye shadow and feather lashes can’t sort out. Transatlantic takeovers: On a non-fashion note, we can’t help but feel proud of the American intervention we’ve recently experienced. From J-Lo’s raunchy antics on Britain’s Got Talent to Alicia Keys taking her adorable son to a theme park in the Midlands and Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher’s secretive pub dates. And then there’s Jessie J, debuting her delicious new look (oh, that bod!) in the video for her latest video Wild, featuring Big Sean and Dizzee Rascal. Fashion’s future: Graduate Fashion Week is nearly coming to a close, and the idea of seeing fresh, emerging talent taking its first steps into this challenging industry is exciting. With over 1,000 BA fashion graduates from 40 UK colleges showing their collections, alongside students from 16 universities around the world including Parsons and FIT, in New York, will the next Christopher Bailey or Stella McCartney be discovered? The two most famous Ks: One’s a certified royal, and the other is also part of an establishment better know as the Kardashians. Both are due to give birth pretty soon and we can’t wait to see Kate Middleton cooing over the royal tot’s frilly hat, and how many diamonds will adorn Kimye’s daughter’s cot. Blue Ivy, who? High Street denim takeover: Yes, that’s right. Although it’s not earth shattering news, it is when the high street’s most cost effective name takes on a dot com domain! Asos will become the newest home for […]

FASHION CHART: 10 things going up and going down this month

Charting the movements of the ever-evolving world of fashion is no small feat. It’s in. Oh, it’s out now. That’s far too 2012 to be considered for this year, and did you just really say winter coat? Whether we’re considering the size and brand catalogue of the forthcoming Kan-dashian offspring, or just how incomplete we feel every time we look in the mirror to find our eyebrows don’t even come close to Cara’s mega-furry (in a good way) monsters, we thought we’d share February’s fashion ups and downs with you. After all, sharing is so 2013.   GOING UP Senso Qimat booties Have you met the new season-perfect boot? These transitional treaders come in a gorgeous pale grey and are fab for when you want to add a spring feeling to your shoe-drobe, without risking frostbite in open-toe sandals. That Super Bowl outfit Sorry, who was Rubin Singer until Queen Bey stomped around on-stage in his creation during her phenom Super Bowl half-time performance? Body suits are the new obsession, (especially with a booty like Bey’s), and Rubin Singer, the ridiculously handsome, New York-based designer who’s dressed the like of Solange Knowles, Kelly Rowland, Alicia Keys and Lea Michele, is our new one to watch! The Big Browed Brit Beauty takeover (and a whole lotta alliteration) We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: Cara fever has gripped us, and we’re hypnotised by those brows. The new face of Pepe Jeans, scores of SS’13 campaign under her belt and a Vogue cover to boot – does this girl ever stop? Err, fashion month? With New York Fashion Week in full swing and London Fashion Week a mere nine days away, need we say more? (Note: panic stricken facial expression). Fashion Month is upon us once again, so welcome blisters, food-less days […]

Dsquared² launches junior line!

Happy days if you have little ones – Dsquared² is reportedly launching its first ever childrenswear line for ages 0-14, slated for release during the spring/summer 2014 season. Excited? “As time passes, the Dsquared² family continues to flourish,” reads a press release from Dean and Dan Caten, the designers behind the brand. “Our customers have grown with us – now their children are also in need of cool and fun outfits. “With this junior line we are finally answering the request of our clients: to create a real “total look” for the entire family.” DSquared2 has signed a deal with Brave Kid to produce the collection for five years, so we’re looking forward to seeing how the pieces will develop as time goes on. You can catch the first glimpse of the collection at the Pitti Bambo trade fair that takes place in June. While we don’t think the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be dressing their new arrival in anything from this collection (we just don’t think the theatrical aesthetic will be Palace approved – but we hope we are wrong!) there are a lot of other celeb babies on the way who would look positively adorable in the potential pieces. What do you think about the mini Kardashian donning Dsquared² [Vogue]

Finding the perfect cover up for cool spring days and breezy summer nights is often a sartorial challenge. But fear not: This season we can borrow from the boys with a mannish, boyfriend blazer , it’s the season’s relaxed new way to work this wardrobe staple. Yes, the masculine, oversize boyfriend blazer has returned from the eighties. The Spring/Summer ’09 runways were awash with this adaptable look. Yves Saint Laurent’s was very sleek , big in the shoulder, narrow in the hips – paired over a miniskirt. Ralph Lauren grounded a floaty chiffon evening dress by topping it of with a boyfriend blazer while Hussein Chalayan paired his with nothing but boots.
