Gorgeous Destinations for a Beautiful October Half-Term Break

Summer has come to an end, and it’s difficult not to pick up on the general sad feeling in the air as we all have to return to our daily work routine (and the stress that comes with it!) after a beautiful relaxing holiday. However, if you are among those lucky people who have saved their holiday for an October break, or you can reap the benefits of the October half term, here are some fantastic destinations that offer plenty of sunshine and luxurious relaxation and savour the bright colours and sunny days of autumn. Italy’s Amalfi Coast is the preferred spot for celebrities and the who’s who of jet set society, and offers the perfect opportunity to experience the lifestyle of the rich and glamorous— even without a big budget. With an average temperature of 21°C you can rent a yacht and travel to the best beaches, or explore the many hidden coves and peninsulas along the coast. As part of the UNESCO World Heritage list of sites around the world the Amalfi’s beautiful scenic landscape, sandy yellow beaches and cultural heritage are a favourite attraction for lovers of nature, art and history. The 1st Century A.D. Roman Villa at Minori is only a fraction of the wonders of ancient art and architecture, and Ravello, perched high on a hilltop, is famous for its romantic feel and wondrous scenery. Sicily remains one of the most popular destinations for tourists at any time of the year and due to its temperate climate you can still expect warm weather and sunshine in October- and definitely more comfortable a stay than those who visit during the incredibly high temperatures of August. Expect fantastic local food and a 3000 year old legacy of a mix of cultures and traditions which includes Roman and […]

The Do’s And Don’ts Of Buying Gifts For A Special Guy

Choosing a gift for a special guy can leave you asking yourself a number of questions. Is it too much? Is it enough? Will he like it? Will he use it? These are only examples, but if you sincerely intend on impressing a guy with a gift, weighing up the important factors is key to making the definitive choice. Breaking it down into digestible portions will help you find the answer. It may also help you discover how much you know about him. Furthermore, we will look at what not to buy. This can be critical and could sway the pendulum far enough for him to have questionable feelings about you. Buying him the wrong gift could leave you disheartened and your man disappointed. Do’s… Firstly, before you start searching for cool stuff for guys, you need to categorize what makes him tick, i.e. what makes him excited and happy. Does he like sports, music, or holidays? Is he an emotional character or is he a more macho kind of guy? You may want to include something that will involve you. If he cares about you enough he will be happy that you can join in on the excitement. For example, search for common ground. If you both like travelling you could book a trip somewhere to a place he has never been. Be careful as a wrong destination may cause upset, do your research. Looking at a more material example you could create a montage of your experiences together in a range of different mediums. This may appear to be more heartfelt and could bring out the emotional side of him. Adding to this, you could include a photo journal where you could both document the trip together. If he is into the arts such as sports or music, […]

Planning A Dinner For That Special Someone

Enjoying dinner with someone special in your life, whether it is a partner or a friend, is a fun and relaxing way to spend an evening. Eating dinner face to face allows you to put away other distractions so that the focus is on your conversation. Depending on who you are sharing dinner with, you will want to set the mood for romance or fun with friends. Set the mood Making dinner for a pal is usually more laid-back than preparing a meal for a romantic partner, so the first thing to keep in mind when setting the mood for dinner is who you are inviting. Whatever the guest list, make sure that your home is clean and uncluttered. Also, plan enough seating for everyone. Be inventive with the selections by creating a fun and meaningful atmosphere to suit you and your dinner guest. Let them know how relaxed or formal your dinner will be so that they can dress appropriately. Romance in the air Whether you are trying to impress your new love interest with your cooking skills or you and your significant other would like an evening date night at home, you should set the atmosphere for romance. Block time out in both of your schedules for a quiet evening. Leave a note or make an invitation for a planned dinner to build anticipation, or for a surprise dinner, check their schedule and drop hints about the upcoming plans. If you have children at home, you should arrange for a babysitter to watch them, preferably at someone else’s house. Candlelight, flowers, and smooth music are a classic setup for creating a romantic ambiance. Spruce up a plain dining table with a single rose at your partner’s place setting. Keep things close and cozy at a small dining table, […]

Grab Your Diary: Westfield Open Air Cinema

If you’re looking for something fun to do this week, look no further than the Westfield Open Air Cinema. As part of the Evening Standard’s month long Food Festival, Perks Field park near Kensington Gardens is currently playing host to a fabulous Night Market featuring over 50 of London’s best food and drink vendors as well as DJ’s and live music. In and amongst the festivities, is Westfield’s outfoor cinema which showcases a blockbuster movie every day. We popped down to watch Doctor Strange and it was fantastic! Luckily the weather promises to be great this week and there really is something to be said for watching a movie outside in the sunshine. Sadly however, this is the last week the food festival will be at Perks Field which also means the end of the open air cinema on Sunday. To gain entrance, you’ll need to purchase a ticket to the Night Market as well as a film ticket which costs £4 for adults, £2 for children 5 years and over, and free for kids under 5. Movies scheduled to screen this week include Pretty Woman, Back to The Future, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Tangled, Toy Story 2 and more. Click here for more information. P.S If you make it down to the Night Market, you absolutely must try a Honey Butter chicken burger from Other Side Fried. It’s freakin amazing!

Tried & Tested: The Hyde Bar Luxury Burger Collection

There’s no shortage of cool spots in London for a great burger, especially with the rise in popularity of this long loved member of the fast food world. But if you’re craving a ‘posh’ burger, then The Hyde Bar is a must try for an exceptional fine dining experience. Located in The Park Tower Knightsbridge Hotel, the intimate setting of The Hyde Bar with its live music and private members club vibe, makes it an ideal option  for a romantic date night. Specialising in handcrafted burgers created by talented Executive Chef Pascal Proyart, the menu ranges from the succulent ‘Périgourdine’ made with Angus beef, duck foie gras and Armagnac mayo in a potato black truffle bun, to ‘The Red and Black Surf & Turf’ – a tasty combination of Tiger prawn, chicken, cuttlefish ink tapioca and aioli. Each burger is complemented with a recommended premium whisky intended to delight the taste buds, however if you’re not a whisky fan then I highly suggest a cocktail instead, in particular the Bourbon sidecar. While all the burgers not only look incredible but are absolutely delicious, ‘The Luxury Collection’ burger, a fusion of Wagyu beef, Vermont white cheddar and heritage tomato in a refined gold leaf bun is fantastic especially when washed down with the Suntory Yamazaky 12 year old single malt whisky. And for dessert? Well, it’s a battle between a decadent chocolate cake and an indulgent strawberry cheesecake, in which the yummy cheesecake wins hands down. I thoroughly enjoyed The Hyde Bar. Not only is the service impeccable, but if you’re lucky enough to pop down while the lovely manager Santos is around, you’ll be guaranteed a great evening out. The Hyde Bar, 101 Knightsbridge, London, England, SW1X 7RN, United Kingdom, Opening times: daily from 8:00AM to 2:00AM. Prices range from £17-£29. (Twitter – […]

As parents, when our daughters approach us with their ambitions of becoming a dancer, we may typically ask ourselves the following: – How did she become interested in dancing? – What are the benefits to it? – I am nervous about the necessary clothing, where can I begin to look? Professional dancing is a trend that has gained momentum recently as girls nationwide have taken to it. No question, Dancing with the Stars has played a pivotal role in its popularity. With Season 24 guests having been announced recently, one glance through the scheduled stars who will be participating in this season’s edition leaves little to wonder as to why this show is a hit with all ages.  It’s only natural to assume that dancing will continue to be a hot topic on social media feeds and we know how much of our kids’ lives revolve around the likes of Facebook and Instagram, where viewers post their favorite couples and outfits. David Ross, who was with the 2016 World Series winning Chicago Cubs, to musician extraordinaire Erika Jayne (whom we know many of our daughters adore), and many others from various genres of the public eye bring in the television audiences. What Good Can Come From It? The culture of today for young people has them indoors playing video games more rather than engaging in physical activity. Dancing can provide your daughter with an outlet for physical and mental well-being. The benefits that can come range from: – Cardiovascular – Muscle endurance and strength – Healthy weight – Self-confidence in physical state – Improved psychological well-being – More apt for social interactions What Will She Wear? Call of the Wild: Deepdale Hygge Festival

The Deepdale Hygge festival is not only an event that celebrates musical accomplishment, it also celebrates the undying beauty of the North Norfolk Coast. What better way is there to discover new music and new friends than in the great outdoors by the warm glow of a campfire? This is not your usual festival. This is a festival that brings it back to basics with music, people and nature at the heart of everything it strives to do. What does ‘Deepdale Hygge’ Festival mean? There are a lot of words that title that may seem slightly lost in translation… Firstly – what is ‘Deepdale’?   Deepdale is a hostel and camping site located on the edge of North Norfolk and provides travelers and adventurers with gorgeous views, walking paths that take you directly to the shore, and total escape from the big city. The month of March is Deepdale’s birthday. To celebrate Deepdale’s birthday this year, the site encourages guests to partake in a music festival like no other. Now, what is a ‘hygge’? Hygge is Danish for ‘enjoying life’s simple pleasures’. Whether that’s music, sharing experiences with good friends, or laying in nature and enjoying the stars above… Deepdale Hygge promises that you’ll appreciate all that life has to offer during this festival away from it all. When is it? Friday 24th to Sunday 26th March 2017 Where is it? Deepdale Backpackers & Camping Deepdale Farm Burnham Deepdale North Norfolk Coast PE31 8DD Where to stay?  One of the great things about Deepdale Hygge is that it’s only moments away from several affordable hostel rooms and camping sites. For as little as 16 GBP a night, you can get a bed in a nice, cozy on-site room. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, just pitch up your tent wherever you […]

6 Reasons Why You Need An iPhone 7/7s Wallet Case

The latest generation of iPhones, the 7 and the 7s mark great breakthroughs in terms of power and versatility. This truly is a new vanguard in smartphone technology, and you’ll want to look after yours with a great case. iPhone 7/7s wallet cases are a great solution as they enable you to protect your phone and also keep your belongings up together in the process. Let’s take a look at what makes the T8 case a great choice of iPhone 7 case. Great storage When you buy a wallet case, you’re not just looking after your phone, you’re also essentially buying a wallet as the case contains numerous pockets where you can keep your bank cards, your ID passes, important information… The list goes on. Your jeans pockets or your handbag will look so much more organised once you’ve invited an iPhone 7/7s wallet case into your life. Excellent protection We all know someone who dropped their iPhone onto a tiled floor, shattering the screen and making the phone all-but-unusable. It’s incredibly frustrating but also very easy to do if your phone isn’t protected. Some iPhone wallet cases are built to be shock-proof, the materials absorbing the pressure of impact, so they can withstand being dropped or even – in some cases – hurled off a rooftop. Secure fastening Unlike other kinds of coverings, wallet cases fasten like a papoose around the iPhone, making the phone covered on all sides. So you can wave goodbye to scratched screens and buttons covered with gunk from the bottom of your rucksack. If you’re looking to truly look after your iPhone, this is a great way to do it. Stylish designs There is an endless variety of wallet cases available on the marketplace, so you can really let yourself run wild with the […]

Kenzo x H&M Is Everything We Wished For And So Much More!

With so many designer x high street collaborations on offer at the moment, these days snapping up a bit of designer action is no longer as taxing on the wallet. In truth, we’re actually quite spoilt and as a result we’ve found that these exclusive partnerships don’t excite us as much as they used to. However, we must admit, when we found out, earlier this year, that H&M would be teaming up with none other than french fashion house Kenzo, we did feel those tingly fashion butterflies and couldn’t wait to see if the collection would live up to our expectations. After much teasing with sneak peek pics, the lookbook has finally arrived, and we’re so happy to say that it doesn’t disappoint. Celebrating Kenzo both in the past and the present, as expected there’s  lots of vibrant patterns and animal prints all encompassed in statement separates and voluminous dresses. Shot by photographer and film director Oliver Hadlee Pearch, the look-book features a number of creatives including photographer Youngjun Koo, DJ Juliana Huxtable, makeup artist Isamaya French, performance artist Oko Ebombo  and musician Anna of the North alongside models. Kenzo x H&M will be available both in stores and online on Nov 3rd. Check out all the looks below. We can’t wait!

Kim Kardashian West Held Up At Gunpoint And Robbed In Paris Hotel

Last night at around 3am, Kim Kardashian was held up at gunpoint in her Paris hotel room by masked men who locked the reality star in the bathroom and handcuffed her bodyguard. Dressed as police officers the armed robbers took off with several million dollars worth of jewellery and two mobile phones. Thankfully Kim’s children, North and Saint were not involved in the incident and the reality star was “badly shaken but physically unharmed” her rep told People magazine. Kanye ended his performance at the Meadows Music & Arts Festival in New York as soon as he heard the news, telling fans, “I’m sorry I have a family emergency, I have to stop the show”. Kim has been in Paris for the past week with Kris, Kourtney and Kendall attending fashion week and the robbery comes after another altercation earlier in the week, in which celebrity prankster Vitali Sediuk attempted to kiss her behind while she entered L’Avenue restaurant.

Following Kanye’s Fashion Journey: Internship Advice

Internships are a great way to get your foot in the door of the notoriously competitive fashion world. You’ll rub shoulders with industry leaders, have a sneak peek at the glamorous lives of celebrities, and gain plenty of invaluable work experience. Even though you’re excited about the opportunity, you can’t help but feel nervous. There’s a lot riding on it after all, and you’ve seen The Devil Wears Prada – you know all about the bitchy assistants and nightmare editor-in-chiefs waiting to make your life a misery. Whilst there’s sure to be a few challenging moments along the way, it’s nowhere near as bad as the stereotypes you’re worrying about. The trick is to start your internship with as much confidence as you can muster. Since that’s much easier said than done, we’ve put together some top tips on making the most of your first day. Paying your dues First days are the same for everyone, regardless of the situation. Nobody likes being the newbie but we’ve all been there before, and as a fashion intern you’re following in some pretty big footsteps. Despite his massive success in the music industry, Kanye West started his fashion career in exactly the same way as you. It’s hard to imagine him doing the coffee run or mutely taking notes during a meeting, but back in 2009 he did exactly that whilst interning for Fendi. So if you’re having a bad day just remember that you’re in great company. Designer luxe on a budget The dream situation is to blow everyone’s minds with your innate sense of style. Unfortunately, internships don’t pay well enough to provide you with the necessary bank account for buying all this season’s trends. Treating yourself to a new fragrance is a budget friendly way of adding a little […]

4 Essentials Every Businessman Needs For A Short Trip Away

One of the true skills of being a globe-trotting businessman is being able to pack lightly and efficiently for those short-haul trips away. In the 2009 film ‘Up in the Air’, George Clooney plays a frequently flying character who has packing down to a fine art, and, although fictional, has a lot of wisdom to share when it comes to business trips. One of his golden rules is: never check a bag — it adds 30 minutes to your flight. He couldn’t be more right. By leaving your checked luggage at home, you can skip the time-honoured tradition of standing in line at the check-in counter and head straight for the promised land of the departure lounge. In doing so, you can cut some serious time off the ‘arrive two hours before your flight’ guidance issued by most airlines. Even better, you can skip straight past the baggage carousel at your destination and go straight through arrivals. This can bring you one step closer to a well-earned rest at your hotel ahead of your business visit. To help you adopt this sleek and minimalistic way of life, we’ve put together four absolute essentials that you’ll need to get you on your way. Economical travel case With most airlines cabin luggage dimensions being around 55cm x 45cm x 25cm, this Travelpro Flightcrew 5 roller bag comes in just under those measurements and uses the limited space inside for maximum carry potential. The company are famed for producing baggage favoured by flight crews and frequent flyers, and it’s easy to see why with its tough ballistic nylon, self-aligning wheels, and multiple outer travel pockets. You can’t go wrong with this bag. Smart and stylish shirt No businessman’s attire is complete without a smart shirt, and a standard white number is the cornerstone […]

It’s that time of the year again when we get the urge to add new seasonal items to our wardrobes in preparation for the change in weather. For many of us, this also means finding a spare inch of space in our already overflowing closets. But fear not, below are 7 commandments you should be sticking to in order to make this year’s closet clear-out a success. 1. Set the mood with the right playlist The right music can impact our productivity, so setting the mood with some background music is a must. For many of us, an overdue closet clear-out may seem like a daunting task that may require some soothing tunes to get you through the ordeal. On the other hand, you may be quite excited about the prospect of some new wardrobe space but lack the motivation to get started. If this is the case then the situation calls for some golden oldies and guilty pleasures that will lighten your moods and prepare you for the task at hand. 2. Pull everything out One of the only ways to clearly see just how much clothing you have accumulated since your last ‘spring clean’ is to pull everything out. This requires an adequate amount of floor space and may seem scary but but keep reminding yourself of the end goal. You may be surprised at some of the older items lurking in the deep, dark depths of your closet. 3. Divide and conquer Now that all of your precious clothing is splayed all over the bedroom floor, it’s time to divide and conquer. According to personal stylists in Melbourne, organisation is key at this point. Start making piles and sorting clothing into categories. This is the point where you will truly see what your closet is missing and […]

Ropes and Ropes of Pearls: How Our Grandmas’ Jewelry is Our New Obsession

You have probably heard a dozen times that pearls are making a huge comeback. Thrown in a corner of shade and oblivion for a few years by diamonds and statement bling, pearls waited patiently to return in the spotlight and regain their former glory. If you ask some specialists, pearls never went out of fashion, not even for a second. However, they were left aside as ceremonial jewelry for weddings and sweet sixteen celebrations – demure staples of femininity but too quiet to shine as bright as modern accessories. But everything changed in 2014 and since then, pearls are the new diamonds in town, proving once again that Coco Chanel was a visionary and a woman way ahead of her times. The famous designer once said that women needed “ropes and ropes of pearls” and her words were repeated throughout history. But are we still living the Jackie O. times, or are we wearing pearls in big, bold designs to match our contemporary jewelry frenzy? Taking a look back, we can clearly see that pearls overcame their “demure” reputation and turned into veritable statement pieces all women are dying to wear. How Did Pearls Become So Popular? The answer to this question can be easily found on runways and last years’ fashion shows. As per usual, Chanel set the tone, the music and the scene for one of the boldest and most original comebacks in history. Chanel’s spring 2014 fashion show brought larger pearls in chunky, massive and high-end contemporary designs and the world followed. Soon, Karl Lagerfeld displayed massive pearls as well on the catwalk. Oscar de la Renta placed the pearls on booties, while Simone Rocha adorned everything with pearls, including knee socks. A year later, Honor and Lanvin sent a cascade of pearls on their runways during […]

CFDA Awards 2016: Beyoncé Gives Her Most Inspirational Speech Yet!

She’s currently working on global domination with her Formation world tour but not even that could keep Beyoncé from taking time out to attend the CFDA awards which took place last night in New York, to accept the Fashion Icon Award. It was all very, hush hush as to whom would have the honour of receiving the prestigious award but with 2016 being her year of major slay both in the music and style arena, there really was no competition. Wearing a crystal embellished Givenchy tux and a wide-brimmed hat, Queen Bey took it waaaay back in her acceptance speech, reminding us of the days when Mama Tina would create their costumes. Remember those days? Even we were a tad nostalgic thinking back to those matching Destiny Child outfits, the clashing colours and ripped skirts as well as the blinged out dresses – all made by hand by Tina Knowles herself. Speaking to the fashion industry’s elite at the Hammerstein Ballroom she said, “Starting out in Destiny’s Child, high-end labels didn’t really want to dress four black country curvy girls, and we couldn’t afford designer dresses and couture. My mother was rejected from every showroom in New York. But like my grandmother, she used her talent and her creativity to give her children their dreams. My mother and my uncle, God rest his soul, made all of our first costumes, individually sewing hundreds of crystals and pearls, putting so much passion and love into every small detail. When I wore these clothes I felt like Khaleesi. I had an extra suit of armour. It was so much deeper than any brand name. My mother is fabulous and beautiful and she’s here tonight. My mother, my grandmother, and my uncle are always with me so I cannot fail. My mother actually […]

8 Essential Accessories For Every Smartphone

We live in an age where it’s almost impossible to find someone who doesn’t own a smartphone, or at least who doesn’t know someone who owns a smartphone. Technology has without a doubt taken over our lives and we’d probably be completely lost without it. But every smartphone is incomplete without the necessary accessories to go with it, not only for appearance but to also make sure we can utilize its features and make the most of the handset. Here are 8 essential accessories: Earphones One of the best investments that you can make for your smartphone are some great earphones. These can be used to watch shows, listen to music, listen to audio books or to give you some privacy on phone calls. A great pair of earphones can also be used on a wide range of phones so if your phone goes south, you can use them on your smartphone purchase. Many smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S7 already come with a pair of quality earphones in the box, so if you’re satisfied with the pair you’re provided with you needn’t worry about going in search of another. Cases Another great accessory is the case that you protect it with. Now even if you are super careful and never drop your phone or do anything risky, they are still very fragile and can be damaged by something as seemingly benign as excessive dust or rain water going from the car to the house. A great case can help to protect from drops, water, shocks, and even dust. Screen protectors With some cases, a screen protector may not be standard. That being said, a screen protector is going to do a few different things. For starters it is going to help protect the screen from scratches. This is great […]

Meet Milyae Park – CEO and Creative Director of Luxury Label Tricouni

Our introduction to luxury label Tricouni began earlier this year, during London Fashion Week, and it’s been an unbreakable love affair ever since. We caught up with the driving force behind the brand – CEO and Creative Director Milyae Park, who is not only absolutely lovely, but incredibly inspirational too. Prior to joining Tricouni, Milyae was CEO of L’Wren Scott, Director at F&F and ran M&S Europe. Despite a very busy schedule, Milyae took some time out to answer a few of our questions…. What’s a typical working day like for you?  Since working at a start-up inherently means unpredictability, I don’t tend to have a typical day.  However, in the course of any given day, I’m often awake by 6am (later in the winter).  By 8.30am, I will have consumed several cups of green tea and a hearty breakfast (always), gone for a run (sometimes), responded to my first tranche of emails, and plotted out my day, as I arrive in the office.  I tend to be more analytical in the mornings, so I reserve that time for reviewing the team’s work and holding meetings.  Our office is open plan, so when I need to focus, I’m often found with headphones on, playing classical music if I have my Creative Director hat on, and jazz or popular music if I have my CEO hat on (I’ve always had a habit of playing different music to engage different parts of my brain). By early afternoon, I am in the studio reviewing sketches, fabrics and trims and doing fittings with the design team, discussing social media, ecommerce strategy and sales with the marketing team, working on photoshoots, auditioning models, writing and approving creative copy, and meeting with editors, retailers and investors.  Somehow in between, I also browse London fashion and retail stores for research; as a […]

Jewellery Designer Kat Florence On How To Achieve Work/Life Balance & More…

Diamonds are a girls best friend. Yes. But, for us, all jewellery, especially luxury jewels are our best buddies. So, naturally we jumped at the chance to interview fine jewellery designer Kat Florence. Her extremely sought after, timeless statement jewels created from rare stones, can only be purchased online and exclusively through auction houses. Due to be released later this year, Kat’s recent project titled the Diamond Collection sees her partnering with actress, Sarah Jessica Parker, who not only acts as co-designer but is also the face of the campaign. Here, we get to know more about the Canadian born designer. What’s a typical working day like for you?  My daily routine begins quite simply with my two dogs and a morning walk. Once the dogs are sorted I begin working with the gemstones – everything I do begins with the stones. I find such motivation and inspiration for my designs and the cut of the stones just by taking the time to fully engage/take in the color, shape, luster of each individual stone. Once I have a feeling for the stone I can begin to visualize how I want the gemstone to be set and be placed on a woman’s body. The vision is clear and the sketching can begin. What do you enjoy most about working with rare gems?  I think I enjoy most that each one is so different, the color, the origin, the cut, the history – each stone has its own story which I find so inspiring. I am very lucky to have worked with the rarest gemstones in the world. One of my very first pieces was a 5carat Kashmir Sapphire – an incredibly rich velvet blue stone which I secured in the Himalayan mountains – very rare. Most treasured piece of jewellery? I have a very […]

A Review Of Longitude Festival 2015

One of the most popular festivals in Ireland, the Longitude Festival always puts together an amazing lineup of artists from music legends to modern performers. I checked out the festival when it ran this July, so I’ve put together a bit of a guide of what I saw and how it was for anyone thinking about heading there next year. The festival’s just a bit away from central Dublin, which is probably why they don’t have the room for tents and camping. I booked a cheap hotel room in the Travelodge Dublin Hotel Rathmines, just towards the south of the city, taking a bus down to the festival every day. Before I start off, I’d really say to make sure that you’re actually prepared for the day when you set off for the day. While you’ll be able to find most essentials at the festival, it’s as about as expensive as you might expect, with suncream coming at a real heavy price (I needed it, the festival gets pretty heated at times). I made the mistake of not being properly prepped at first. Thankfully, after a pretty costly first day I was able to find a shop just a while from my hotel, packing all the essentials and a few more pieces. The festival lasts for 3 great days every July, starting off on a Friday and carrying on through the weekend. It’s a pretty decently sized place so there’s 4 stages going on (though one’s just for dance, which I’m not really into as a thing to see at festivals) through the day. Nothing really starts until after lunchtime with people having to travel into the festival, so I had a bit of a wander around Dublin (check out the National Museums if you get a chance! Fascinating) before […]

Retrofitted for the 80s: Bringing Vintage Back!

No, it is not possible to return to your childhood and re-watch Goonies and the Wonder Years for your first time once more. And thankfully, much of the music and hairdos of that era will remain in the museums of the years gone by. There is no doubt, though, that the decade that gave us Hollywood star turned POTUS Ronald Regan and Maradona single-handedly (get it?) enraging a football-hungry island nation has left an indelible mark on the world of fashion today, allowing a portal through which you can reminisce of a much simpler time. These trends, of course, come and go with time in an almost cyclical fashion. Strike while the iron is hot and celebrate the return of the 80s to wardrobes worldwide. Without further ado, here are some hot items to look out for. Neverland Store Dream Cut Off Denim Shorts Light Blue These Dream Cut Off Denim Shorts technically combines two trends form the 80s: cut off shorts and denim. The former lets you show off your posterior in a nonchalant way that hearkens back to your carefree days of listening to Guns N’ Roses’ Appetite for Destruction for the first time, while the latter was and always will be cool. Best part is, if you prefer to customise, these are super easy to make from an old pair of jeans you still want to salvage and do something useful with. If you ever want a cleaner look for a more formal engagement, it is imminently possible to hew a few seems or even roll up the bottom. Neato-presto! Last Resort Oversized Tee Dress Ocean Tie Dye See a trend? This also combines two retro styles, the oversized tee and the tie dye (although tie dyes hearken back to an even earlier period). The tee can […]

Fit for a King and Queen: Celebrity Homes Beyond Belief

The residences of celebrities are often just as interesting and dramatic as the people who live in them. Movie stars, TV personalities and famous musicians build, buy or renovate extravagant homes to suit their lavish lifestyles and often eccentric environments. See the castles, condos and courtyards of some of the most exciting and notorious personalities as only they could construct them. Music at Home Rising pop star Selena Gomez has taken themed rooms to the next level in her cozy Hollywood Hills home. This house was already off to a great start with it’s Tuscan and Mediterranean style, and as the house was transformed to suit her upscale and avant-garde tastes, one of the few features that didn’t change was the baby grand piano in the living room. The the dining room layout also stayed the same, but the room itself was transformed into an opulent Moroccan wonderland complete with customized treasure boxes for seating, each gilded with no less than 24 karat gold and silver. Crushed velvet, saris and other rich fabrics from India, including an antique door that was transformed into a table, complimented the luxurious vision. A touch of exotic antique class in an equally impressive modern home. The House of Yesterday Ms. Gomez won’t be giving up her newly renovated home anytime soon, but if you want to own a luxury house that was occupied by an even more well-known music icon, You’re in luck. The home in which Elvis and Priscilla Presley spent their honeymoon recently came on the market. To celebrate the launch of the Huawei Watch as well as Vogue China’s 10th anniversary, Huawei and Fornasetti collaborated to create a special edition smart watch that has the fash pack swooning. Featuring the iconic Fornasetti “Tema e Variazioni” motif, with the watch strap and accompanying box both designed using the classic green “Malachite”, the watch is literally stunning and it’s so functional that we’re wondering how we lived without it. But before we get to why we love the watch, here’s some things to know about the Huawei Watch itself… Firstly the battery lasts for 1.5 days and charges pretty quickly, 45 minutes charging will give you at least 80% battery life. Compatible with Android and IOS, the watch allows you to stay connected anywhere – receive all your notifications to your watch, from your calls, to instant messages, emails and texts. Well…no longer do we have to deal with the impending doom that occurs every time we receive a notification. A discreet vibration lets us know when we’ve received an alert and if it’s important and only if it’s important, we’ll rummage in our oversized Alexander McQueen bag, otherwise it can wait hence […]

Snoozing in Style: Tips for Transforming Your Bedroom Over the Weekend

Most of us have boring bedrooms. It’s a single-purpose room in the house. But, that doesn’t mean it has to be dull. Here are a few ideas to spice up your bedroom this weekend. Focus On Its Purpose A bedroom is a single-purpose room. It’s primary purpose is to help you get a good night’s rest. A lot of people go overboard in the decorating because they want it to become a multi-purpose room. This is usually a terrible idea. Research often shows that people who associate their rooms with things other than sleep or sex tend to have a hard time relaxing and actually getting a good night’s rest. So, when you shop sites like http://www.thebedroomstore.com/, make sure you’re picking up items that will help promote relaxation and sleep. Blankets are good. Pillows are good. Black-out shades for the windows are also good. Keep activities to a minimum. Ideally, you shouldn’t keep your phone, books, a T.V., or anything else in your bedroom. Those things only cause distraction and make it harder to sleep. If you start associating your bedroom with activity, this is what you will naturally want to do. Don’t Overcrowd It Don’t overcrowd your bedroom. Keep furniture to a minimum. How many things do you need in your bedroom? What pieces of furniture should you use in here? Generally, the only thing you need is a bed and maybe a dresser or some place to get dressed in the morning. That’s it. Some people like having chairs and tables, and other things, in their bedroom. This is not always a good idea. If it feels a bit sparse for your tastes, then you can add a full-length mirror and a nightstand or a floor lamp. Stop. Don’t get any more ambitious than that. Unplug Your Room […]

Our 3 Top Fashion Tips For Autumn

As Bob Dylan once nasally intoned, “The times they are a-changin’”. And although he wasn’t singing about fashion, he’s as good an example as any to examine how quickly trends can alter. Just look at Dylan’s move from huge unruly hair to a wide-brimmed hat and pencil moustache combination. From bohemian mass to slinking style in only a decade. But the times change much more quickly where fashion is concerned. And with the golden suns of summer quietly dissipating into the orange leaves of autumn, it won’t be long before your sun-drenched dresses are looking a little out of fashion. So let’s not allow the seasons to ruin your glamour prowess. Try a few of these tips and you’ll be able to strut down the high street as though it were a catwalk in Milan. An up-and-coming brand Every year, the brands of the high street rise and fall with the times. Your Topshops become bottom shops while your Nexts enter the past tense. But some up-and-comers are worth the kind of praise that will keep them in good stead for years to come. The plus-sized clothing brand Lavitta, for instance, has made waves in the fashion industry lately, showcasing a wide range of brands that could make anyone look like a fashionista. Their range spans from sizes 12-24, giving the larger lady a huge assortment of choices. From dresses to coats to tops and much more, this is the company to keep visiting this autumn. Get fashion-Clueless The cast of Clueless might be wearing on, but the 20-year-old film is still as fresh as ever. Indeed, the 90s is back in a BIG way and is, like, totally the “in” thing right now. Iggy Azaelea has purloined the style for a music video, while denim and crazy colours are […]

Tom Cruise Tom Cruise has often been spotted riding about on one of several motorbikes, which includes a beautiful Vyrus 987 C3 4V worth an estimated £100,000. How to trim your fashion expenses

Looking one’s best can be expensive. A way of life to some is a hobby to many and an addiction for others. Keeping abreast of the latest and greatest fashion trends can burn a hole in new pockets the moment payday arrives. Shoppers such as Tess Stimson, writing in the Daily Mail, willingly admit the compulsive nature of their love of clothing and its power. She estimated a spend of at least £100,000 across two decades and decided to go ‘cold turkey’ feeling all the better for it. So if someone with that level of devotion can change their habits, why can’t we all? Thankfully, a wardrobe clear-out can be a rewarding experience, creating space and money, and also benefiting others. It applies as much to children as adults, as events such as NCT sales will take baby/child clothes from sellers and are also locations to find low cost, high quality items for buyers. There will be dresses, t-shirts or coats that you haven’t worn in years. You might not even fit in them any more, but are clinging on in the hope that you’ll slim down to your former size. If so, get rid, as seeing them can be a dispiriting experience, and if you do ever slim down to your previous size, you deserve a new dress anyway! If the items are in good condition you could car-boot them, put them on eBay, send them to sites such as Music Magpie for cash, donate them to charity shops, or hold a swishing party where clothes can be swapped among friends. Making time in the day to monitor trends, sales and offers could reap rewards. Set up a calendar system so that you know when particular sales and events end, and keep any vouchers you find in a safe […]

Rihanna: Take The Old, Make It Look New

Rihanna’s style is impossible to miss. It’s not just her unmistakable voice, but she’s got a take-no-prisoners approach to fashion and music that keeps her at the top of the charts… and keeps her trying new fashion ideas, even if they don’t quite work. Take her new album, R8, where’s dropped her devotion to the current music trends and gone against the standard Pop Star audience tested grain entirely. Saying she wants to make songs that are “timeless” which she’ll still be able to perform in 15 years, she’s gone more acoustically driven and brought on Kanye West as producer, including guest appearances from some amazing musicians. (You’ve probably already heard the first single to be released from R8, FourFiveSeconds, which features Paul McCartney.) R8 is coming out sometime this year, and while you’re waiting you can get your Rihanna tour tickets now (she’ll be playing Rio on 26 September). Yet while Rihanna is bucking the trend in the studio, she’s been pulling out older trends to wear on the street. Lately that’s meant bringing back some late-90s / early-00s stuff from the club girl scene but, since she’s Rihanna, she’s made everything look almost unworn. Stirrup Pants Take her stirrup pants, the latest zombie trend she’s tried to resuscitate. It’s hard to say it’s working, but it’s also hard to say it’s not working. Am I going to wear it? No, but if you can figure out how make it look fantastic… go for it. Technicolor Fur Coats You can almost hear the techno pumping in the background. The pink faux fur coat just screams “rave queen,” but it’s hard to hate it. The peachy pink shade is nice and it’s either got some cool split sleeves or built-in mittens. Either way I kind of like it. Athletic Sleeves […]

9 properties that clearly don’t have any dress sense

The Internet went into meltdown last month, when debate over the colour of #TheDress spread across the web. While people may argue over the appearance of a white and gold dress, though, in the world of property, dress sense is far more clear-cut: when selling your home, there are things that work and things that don’t. To avoid an epic home décor fail, we look at 10 properties that clearly don’t have a dress sense. The team at TheMoveChannel.com take a look at some of the properties that clearly could do with a stylist in so many ways! Flowers everywhere Photo: Hooked on Houses Flowers can be the perfect finishing touch for an outfit or a home, adding a hint of spring joy to any room – just the thing to help your property stand out from others on the market. But it is all about positioning: you wouldn’t put flowers in a doorway, would you? Judging by this home, some people would. Offensive objects Photo: Hooked on Houses Part of dressing up your home is remembering who you are dressing up for. Would you wear an offensive t-shirt to a job interview? No. Apply the same logic to every room in your property, whether the potentially upsetting object in question is a political cartoon, a religious artefact or a stuffed animal’s head. If you do choose to leave something on display, make sure it’s in moderation. Total mess   Photo: Redfin No one likes a crowded home, but worst of all is a home that is crowded with mess. Before inviting people round to view your home – and before taking photos to show it off – tidy up your house. If not, it could end up looking like this. Talk about a bad chair day. Breaking Bad. If you’re jetting over the Channel or even staying here in the UK for your holidays this year, then we’ve come up with a quick run through of the best shops, bars and restaurants to visit throughout Europe. It’s time to grab those heels, slick on some lippie and get out on the town ladies… Portugal is the perfect destination for a girls’ holiday, whether you are looking for places to party all night or locations where you can take some time to relax. You’ll probably love the country so much you’ll be contacting Portugal Property experts and signing up for a villa. We suggest paying a visit to the Montechoro Strip in the Albufeira region, the Choque Frontal Bar comes highly recommended by past tourists. It’s a classic tourist entertainment strip where you’ll find the usual restaurant owners calling you in to eat and people selling souvenirs. However, if you aren’t looking for such a tourist trap then head to Old Town, which boasts of cobbled streets, restaurants with sea views and plenty of great live music in bars. If  you and your friends are actually more bookworm than red lippie types (or maybe you’re both) then you definitely need to pay a visit to Pois Café in Lisbon which is the definition of cosy. With rustic décor, chintzy armchairs and sofas and delicious food, as well as a selection of books to sit and curl up with, it’s the perfect lazy afternoon destination for your holiday. Stretching across to Rome, if you and the girls fancy sipping cocktails in the beautiful city then head to Co. So Cocktails and lounge in a beanbag chair or chat up the barman whilst ordering some classy cocktails. You can also grab a bite to eat whilst you enjoy the fun atmosphere. […]

When Prince William and Kate Middleton met Jay Z and Beyoncé

It’s a meeting that’s had the internet in a spin. And we can understand why. Can you imagine witnessing Kate Middleton and Beyoncé chatting away? Well, if you were at the Barclays Center last night then that’s exactly what you’d have been privy to. As part of their visit to NY, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took a trip down to Brooklyn last night to watch the Brooklyn Nets play the Cleveland Cavaliers. With Jay Z owning a part of the Brookly Nets, naturally the hip-hop star and wife Beyoncé are regulars at their basketball games. So who better to welcome British royalty than music’s very own royal couple? During a break in the game, both Jay Z and Beyoncé went over to shake hands and chat with Prince William and Kate Middleton and we’d give away our entire wardrobe to know what they spoke about! Naturally, Kate looked great as always in a pair of black skinny jeans and a tweed coat, while Beyonce opted for a printed top, black skirt and a denim Louis Vuitton bag from the SS15 collection. Both ladies completed their look with black pumps. 2014 hasn’t ended just yet. We’re just weeks away. But we’re willing to bet this is the most talked meeting of the year.

How to get flawless legs for the party season

It’s hard not to envy the celebrities you see walking the red carpet with perfect pins. After all, nothing makes a short dress or a thigh-split design look better than a pair of flawless legs. Beyoncé shows off her toned thighs in sparkly leotards at her shows, while Taylor Swift’s legs just seem to go on and on. On this side of the Pond, a recent survey of British women named model Abbey Clancy as having the best legs in showbiz. The survey by Veet, however, also found women were reluctant to show off their own legs. But, it is possible to transform your legs into two of your best assets. EXERCISE AND DIET Country music singer Carrie Underwood’s personal trainer Tony Greco suggests a combination of lunges, squats, step-ups and toe-taps, combined with a healthy diet of proteins, carbs and fats. He also says having a handful of almonds, walnuts or macadamia nuts with every meal is a good idea because they can help you feel fuller for longer. Jessica Simpson’s legs had to look perfect in her Daisy Dukes in the movie Dukes of Hazard. Her personal trainer Harley Pasternak says she achieved those results with a lot of hard work. His tip is to do at least 30 minutes of cardio work five times a week, choosing exercises that are not only good for a healthy heart, but which work out your legs intensively at the same time, such as cycling, running, skating or climbing the stairs. Then, it’s time to tone up even further by doing some work with a stability ball. Lie down with your calves on top of the ball, rolling the ball towards your body with your heels while lifting your hips, then back again. CELLULITE While many women are conscious about cellulite, […]

Ant and Dec hosting the 2015 Brit Awards!

The year isn’t even out yet, but we’re already counting down the days ‘til the 2015 Brit Awards. We told you earlier this month that Tracey Emin would be designing the award itself, and now we have equally – if not more – exciting news to share as it’s just been announced that Ant and Dec will be taking over from James Corden as hosts. “We’re really excited to be hosting the BRITs again next year, it is undoubtedly the biggest night in the British music calendar,” the pair said. “We’re especially excited now we’re No.1 recording artists ourselves. We’ll be offering our advice to the fledgling pop stars backstage as to how to have a No.1 hit, as long as they’re prepared to wait 19 years for their records to top the chart like ours did!” Bless them! With Ant and Dec behind the mics, we have every faith that the night will be full of laughs and cheekiness.

Karl Lagerfeld taps Pharrell Williams for Chanel mini movie!

Looks like Pharrell Williams and Cara Delevingne can’t get enough of each other at the moment. As well as working on a rumoured music single together, Pharrell has also been tapped by the Kaiser himself, Karl Lagerfeld, to appear in a Chanel mini movie alongside Cara Delevingne and super adorable six-year-old Hudson Kroenig. Phew. And although it was initially thought that Pharrell and Cara were shooting the music video to their super-secret single in Paris a few days ago, it was in actual fact part of the Chanel mini movie. Kind of confusing but we hope we’ve cleared it up. The movie is reportedly part of the forthcoming Chanel pre-fall show on December 2nd. That’s the day after the British Fashion Awards, FYI.
