Scottish Fashion Awards 2009: The winners are announced!

Pam Hogg was inducted into the Scottish Fashion Awards Hall of Fame last night. The designer – who is best known for her outrageous 80s fashion collections, which featured catsuits and metallic leggings – was praised by a host of celebrities for her dedication to the fashion industry. Pam was joined onstage by punk musician Siouxie Sioux, while Blondie star and style icon Debbie Harry paid tribute through a video message. The Scottish designer – who has dressed Kylie Minogue, Roisin Murphy and Rihanna – announced her return to fashion last year and has since received rave reviews for the Autumn/Winter 09 collection of her new label Hogg Couture. Meanwhile, newcomer Graeme Black scooped the top prize of Scottish Designer of the Year.

50 Cent launching fragrance

50 Cent is releasing a fragrance. The ‘Candy Shop’ singer is teaming up with Lighthouse Beauty – which is made up of celebrity managers at Brand Asset Management, the stars they represent and developers of perfumes – to release the men’s cologne, which will be called Power by 50 Cent. Chief executive officer of Brand Asset Group Chris Lighty confirmed: ‘The typical musician or actor might not know much about developing a fragrance or a skin care line, but he definitely wants to capitalise on his brand potential.’ The fragrance will launch in US department store Macy’s later this year.

Rodarte inspired by birds

Laura and Kate Mulleavy are inspired by bird-pecked fabric. The Rodarte designers first realised their take on fashion was different to others when they watched 1963 horror movie ‘The Birds’, which sees an American town besieged by the winged creatures. Referring to a scene which involves Tippi Hedren’s character Melanie Daniels attacked by a flock of birds, Kate explained: ‘Everyone in fashion loves Tippi wearing that green suit in ‘The Birds’, but we love the suit after she has been pecked.’
