Team Italia in Dolce and Gabbana

Who’s that charming bunch I hear you ask?  Looking impeccably dressed for their team photo are Team Italia no less, and don’t they look good? How do they do it, Italian good looks? The golden rays of sun shining down on them? No, Dolce and Gabbana. Yes that’s right, the Italian football team get suited and booted in classic Italian super-brand Dolce and Gabbana, and the England boys get Marks and Spencer. Says it all really doesn’t it. Not that we don’t love M&S, but if we were to choose between tailoring from British high street retailer and luxury Italian designer brand, we think we know which one we’d go for. As well as the ‘Martini’ suit (it even has a stylish name…) in classic Azzuro blue, the Italian squad will be also be kitted out with a quilted blue trench coat, black calfskin lace-ups and a pair of aviator sunglasses complete with Italian flag at the hinge. Oo-er. So we’re sorry to say it, but the Italian squad have stormed ahead in the World Cup style stakes so far, but who knows, maybe the England boys can win back some points with their off-duty attire – tracksuits accessorised with an obligatory WAG anyone?  If you are tempted to masquerade as an Italian supporter, or just rather fancy donning some stylish Dolce and Gabbana then you can get your hands on the aviators that make up part of the official strip.  Retailing at $260 the sunglasses are available at Dolce and Gabbana boutiques worldwide now.

Cheryl Cole in Anya Hindmarch at Cannes

As if we needed another reason to envy Cheryl Cole. The gorgeous X Factor judge stepped out in Cannes yesterday with a pale gold Anya Hindmarch Marano clutch, before going on to perform at a film festival after-party. Looking summery and sophisticated in the French Riviera, the Girls Aloud member teamed her luxurious, suede-lined clutch with Victoria Beckham-esque sunglasses, pretty pastels and – one of our favourite items for spring – a white blazer. The evening box clutch from Anya Hindmarch is a classic in the making, adding instant glam to the simplest of ensembles. Victoria Beckham: world’s most glamorous celebrity?

Is Victoria Beckham the most glamorous girl in town? You bet she is, and it’s not just us saying it, it’s a fact. She’s topped Max Factor’s glamour poll, earning her the rather impressive title of the World’s Most Glamorous Celebrity. And when she wandered back on the streets of London this week, she proved why she pipped the likes of Dannii Minogue and Angelina Jolie to the post. Black ruffle minidress from label-du-jour Isabel Marant? Towering nude platforms? A pair of VB sunglasses? It seems her days in fashion have paid off – oh, Ms. Beckham, you’ve exceeded yourself. “Victoria Beckham has been gracing the fashion pages for years now with her glamorous looks and she has designed her own clothes range,” a spokesperson for Max Factor told InStyle. “She never leaves home without being fully made up and her signature glossy pout has become her calling card.” Frankly, we’d expect nothing less.

Samuel L. Jackson in Armani

King of Cool Samuel L. Jackson has been showcasing his sartorial style once again as he attended the US premier of Iron Man last week. Along with his signature round glasses and cap combo he was decked head to toe in Giorgio Armani, sporting a casual ensemble of relaxed tailoring. Mixing a Nehru style jacket with classic Armani jeans, Samuel opts for a more casual look than we’re used to on the red carpet – proving that he doesn’t need to be suited and booted to work that impeccable A-list style. The outfit is set off with a flash of cobalt blue in the form of his shagreen print tennis shoes – who said trainers were a no-go for premier-party footwear? For a similar look you can pair this military feel linen jacket from Cold Method at My-wardrobe with blue jeans and a cool pair of your favourite trainers. As for Samuel L. Jackson’s effortless sense of style, well that’s just something you’ll have to figure out how to get yourself.

MAC’s new spring looks

There surely must be no make-up artists more hard working than the good folk at MAC. Not a month goes by that there’s not a new collection launched. Which brings us neatly on to news of the latest products to hit the beauty giant’s shelves. There are five new collections to look out for including Tabloid Beauty, a range of longwear lip colours, lustre lip colours, mascaras, eye liners, line fillers and skin refiners. And put your sunglasses on for Riveting, a collection of monochrome hues punctuated with shocking pinks, pearl-like peach and copper tinged mauves for the rock chick in you. Also set to be huge is a limited edition range inspired by Liberty. The gorgeous Liberty print packaging is reason alone to fall for it. But spring’s hottest shades included, such as coral and petal pink, it’s sure to be a sell out. But what’s caught our eye at MFL HQ is the Too Fabulous range and the warm pink hues of MAC’s Spring Colour Forecast 1. So much so, we decided to road test them. Spring Colour Forecast: Starting off with the predictions for spring, the forecast is in and the outlook is rosy. The Forecast range consists of four collections in one. MAC has compiled four collections in one, each centring on products in one hue. There’s Coral, Pink/Lavender, Yellow/Gold and Plum/Burgundy. Each range has blush, lipstick, lipglass and eyeshadow. Yet the sun is particularly shining on the sparkling hues of the range’s Crushed Metal Pigment (£24.50). Available in both the Coral and Pink/Lavender ranges, the pigment pots include four shades of metallic loose powder. Often the frustrating things about such powders are that the look fantastic in the pot. They even look fantastic brushed upon a finger tip. But add them to the eye and […]

Your Top Five: Red Lipsticks, well February is the month of romance!

Roses on Valentine’s Day, the carpet at the Bafta’s and the new Choos that I really really really want! To get us through this bitter, cold winter, London seems to have taken the colour of heat , red and coated everything in it! Red lips are no exception, with the likes of Dita Von Tesse and Christina Aguilera leading the way! But with sooo many brands to choose from, how do you know which lipstick is red for you? In true fashion victim style, I’ve trawled through dozens of lippies and come up with the top five!! 5. Starting at no 5 and the cheapest at £4.49 is Lipstick in Russian Red, £12.50. This vibrant colour is a catwalk number, and will make sure that you’re spotted a mile away! But be careful of smudging! 3. Enviro-friendly and a moisturiser, Ultimate Lipstick Duo in 13 Sophia, £13 is a vibrant red on one end and a combo moisturiser/primer on the other! Use the base coat to get sheer colour, or just the colour alone for an intense red! 1. All that glitters is not gold , this final lipstick certainly doesn’t glitter, but it does land a well deserved gold! Giorgio Armani’s Rouge d’Armani in 14 rouge 400, £22, is a sure winner with it’s Color Bond technology, giving lips a softer feel and fuller finish. And lasting power? Mine survived kisses, wine glasses and cups of tea right the way through the day.

London Fashion Week SS10: Betty Jackson

I don’t know if you’ve noticed but shoulders are in. And they will remain ‘in’ right through Spring Summer 2010 as well, Betty Jackson will make sure of it. Betty Jackson’s clothes always have her fingerprint clearly marked. You would know you were at a Betty Jackson show, but this is not a criticism. For if you love girlish charm, floral prints and strong silhouettes then you will adore Betty Jackson. This season saw a geek chic feel with big side parted hair, coloured pop socks and oversized glasses. It was eclectic playing with prints, textures and layers, and it was bright and breezy. The colour scheme of mint greens, ballet pinks and mustards worked well although the apricot and silver lame phase was a surprise. The knickerbockers were super sweet, and the short suit was lovely. Ruffles were the key detail and acted like mini ruffs and bustles. The squared off shoulders were a nice touch and the shoes were divine. Overall it was a very nice, very pretty collection, that had some great pieces. It might not have you grabbing for your credit card. But it is a show that may inspire you into working that vintage, geek-esque look. If you’re looking to invest make sure it’s in a shoulder piece as these were the strongest. Time to grab those shoulder pads ladies.

Five of the best: Sequin jackets

Gone are the days when sequin jackets were only associated with bingo callers, Elvis impersonators and holiday park entertainers. Pick a good one and it really doesn’t matter if you’re wearing a comfy t-shirt and boyfriend-cut blazer is big this season and the same applies to sequin blazers. Think Miami Vice, with sparkles on. Then there are textured, vintage style jackets for that world-traveller, just-got-off-the-plane-from-Monte-Carlo-darling vibe. Just add smoky eye shadow and a pout. Choose the cut, colour and size of the sequins wisely and you could have yourself one of those wardrobe treasures that will become threadbare before you get tired of wearing it.

It’s over folks. Anna Wintour’s 60 minutes is up!

Seriously, how can you not respect Anna Wintour? Notice, I refrained from using the word, “love. If there’s anything we can take away from her 60 minutes with Morley Safer, it’s that Anna is not lovable nor does she wish to be known as such. Anna is the ultimate professional. She’s calm collected and very cool….possibly a little too cool. As Morley puts it, in the media, “She’s been portrayed as Darthvader in a frock or as harshly as nuclear Wintour. Or is she really just peaches and cream with a touch of arsenic? Hilarious. I personally loved this interview. Not because it was particularly revealing, because it wasn’t. Not because of the portrayal of the fashion industry, because yet again the “Devil wears Prada stereotype was reinforced. But, mainly because it was great to hear “the most powerful woman in fashion address the rumours that surround her mysterious persona.

Beauty Road Test: M.A.C Just Dessert Lipglass

What: The Sugarsweet range from M.A.C. On the face of it, it’s a pretty bold collection. Lipsticks, eye shadows, shadesticks, nail varnishes and mineralised skin finishes (metallic blusher to you and me) are all inspired by the frosted shades and vivid colours of cakes. Yum, yum. Most intriguing is the range of five, tricolour lipglasses. Once the urge to consume sugared almonds and cupcakes had been suppressed, we road tested one to see how it worked. The Product: Just Dessert is probably the tamest of colour combinations in the range. No blues or deep oranges here. A layer of pearly Barbie pink gives way to a warm metallic pink shot with gold followed by icy metallic pink on top. It won’t break the bank at £12.72 for 5ml.
