Emerald green This surprise stand-out trend of the night saw Angelina Jolie, Mila Kunis and Catherine Zeta Jones turn heads in rich emerald green. From Angie’s classic long-sleeved Atelier Versace to Mila’s one-shouldered Vera Wang, this jewel tone shone like no other on Sunday night. Romantic nudes Soft and ethereal, this year’s romantic nudes were a subtle elegance on the red carpet with Scarlett Johansson, Leighton Meester and Dame Helen Mirren all opting for subdued blush tones and second-skin shades. Pretty pinks This year’s Golden Globes played host to a wash of pretty pinks and sweet honeysuckles. From Megan Fox‘s pastel Armani Prive to lady of the night Natalie Portman‘s blush Viktor and Rolf gown, this look was all about celebrating girliness. Serious sparkle Whether on Olivia Wilde‘s frothy Marchesa ballgown or Anne Hathaway‘s figure-skimming Armani Prive piece, statement sparkle was head to toe in these all-or-nothing glittering gowns. Golden Globes 2011: best dressed

It’s that time of year again when the longest red carpet in Hollywood plays host to the 2011 Golden Globe Awards, and in case you missed our live coverage last night, we’re here to round up the front-running designer frocks and the what-were-you-thinking disasters. From statement scarlet red and rich emerald green to romantic peaches and nudes, take a look at our pick of best dressed celebs that wowed at the Beverly Hilton last night… Leading the way in the sartorial stakes was Mad Men actress Christina Hendricks (above) who looked positively stunning in a scarlet silk crepe floor length Romona Keveza gown – who said red heads can’t wear red? Next up, Black Swan actress Natalie Portman survived the pressure in an elegant Viktor and Rolf silk blush dress with a red sequinned floral embellishment and matching red accessories that we got to see in all the more details when she picked up her Best Actress Award. Angelina Jolie swapped her usual black on black look in favour of this long sleeved sequinned emerald green Versace gown – the power shoulders and scooped back complete with soft side-swept hair proved a huge hit for Angie. Following in the Versace suit was Mad Men actress January Jones (no surprise there), who pulled off flashing all that flesh in a cut-away floor-sweeping red fringed gown. Claire Danes led the way for spring style and opted for a neon pink Calvin Klein halterneck dress – it’s a hard cut to pull off, but the minimalist column cut and colour-popping pink saw this actress reach new sartorial heights (and pick up a Best Actress for TV Series Award). Dressed in a jaw-dropping figure hugging Giorgio Armani dress was actress Anne Hathaway, who too went for big shoulders, long sleeves and sequins on her […]

Hermes breeding crocodiles

Hermes are breeding their own crocodiles to meet demand for their leather bags. There is a waiting list of several years for some of the French luxury group’s exotic-skin bags – which cost around $50, 000 – and so executives have decided to establish their own farms to create a bigger supply. Chief executive Patrick Thomas told Reuters: ‘We are now breeding our own crocodiles on our own farms, mainly in Australia. The world is not full of crocodiles, except the stock exchange. ‘We cannot face demand. We have massive over-demand. We are limited by our ability to train new craftsmen.’

The Met Costume Institute Gala 2009: The Gowns

Forget the Oscars. Last night NY was awash with celebs who scrubbed up and donned their best outfits for the annual Met Costume Institute Gala. Hosted by Marc Jacobs, Kate Moss and Justin Timberlake, the purpose of the event was to honour “the model as a muse. With actresses and singers dominating campaigns and magazine covers, the supermodel is a dying breed. So what to do? Celebrate their existence with an exhibition and a ball. Top tables for the evening set guests back a Alaia snub, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista and Stephanie Seymour chose not to attend….a bit sad really as all three would have set the carpet on fire. But alas we do still have a lot of material to work with. So here goes.

All eyes are on Victoria at post Oscar bash

At Elton John’s post Oscar party, you expect a whole host of stars. You expect all those who don’t get an invite to the awards to pull out all the stops for the parties. But there was only one person, we all wanted to look at: Victoria Beckham. She looked sensational. Who would have ever thought a long sleeved, high necked, floor length gown could ever look so sexy? It is one of her own creations, from her Victoria Beckham line and it really is stunning. There were other contenders for the style crown at the party, but none could beat Victoria. But let’s have a look at them anyway. So near There were some fabulous dresses on show, and one great trouser suit. I’m not normally a fan of suits at black tie events, but Eva Longoria managed that perfect blend between masculine and sexy. Those puffed up shoulders look fab and her toned down make up and hair suit her perfectly. Kate Beckinsale looked great in a beautiful one shouldered black dress. The diamonds also added a little sparkle turning her into a true Hollywood siren. Jennifer Love Hewitt managed to find the perfect fitting dress, and whilst it might not be the most showstopping of gowns, it suits her figure and shape beautifully. Natasha Bedingfield also opted for black in a form fitting number. The fish tail oozed sex appeal, whilst that low back showed off her great physique. There wasn’t a huge amount of colour on show. So a big round of applause goes to Tamara Mellon for her fabulous red dress. Almost modern Dynasty, she looks so on trend it hurts. And Elle Macpherson reminded us once more why she is ‘The Body’. She was also the most suitably dressed for a party sponsored by […]

Golden Globes 2009: Fashion Round-up (Part 1)

How nice has it been to be able to just shamelessly indulge in red carpet fashion from the Golden Globes? Maybe it’s because we didn’t get the opportunity last year but I’ve loved every minute of it. Expect a more subdued ceremony this year we were told. Well, if “subdued equals classy, sophisticated and demure then I hope the Oscars are seriously sombre. O.K, now let’s talk trends. Strapless gowns were popular this year along with the usual one shouldered options which tend to be a red carpet favourite. The odd bright jewel tones courtesy of Cameron Diaz and Eva Longoria was much needed amongst a sea of nude and neutral shades and classic dark hues while Hollywood glamour at its finest came in the form of fishtail hemlines and bold statement necklaces!

Red Carpet: Goodbye Gowns?

Is it the demise of the gown? Big-time fashion and film events like the Oscars, Golden Globes, the Met gala and now Cannes have made gowns an almost de rigueur fashion choice for all of the A-listers present. Yet recently, some ladies have dared to be different and have sported ultra-glam dresses that show more than a little leg.

Cannes 2008: The Fabulous and The Fashionable

I can’t think of a more glamorous place than the French Riviera in the South of France. The sparkling ocean, never ending sunshine, soft sands…oh, and the location of the most glamorous event of the year , the Cannes Film Festival. This year proves no different from the previous festivals, with appearances from all the big name Hollywood stars. How to lose friends and alienate people hit the screens, and Lily Allen (I love her blonde!) and Mischa Barton (ever the boho queen in her white Matthew Williamson dress) turned out for a glass of champagne at its after party.

Screen Actors Guild Awards: A Starry Night!

The stars were definitely out in Hollywood last night. Being the first big show this year due to the writer’s strike, the SAG awards finally gave starved fans a glimpse of our favourite actors decked out in stunning red carpet looks. Surprisingly, there didn’t seem to be too many “misses this year since most of the celebs opted for classic couture looks. Two ladies who unfortunately didn’t get the memo were Sandra Oh, in her overly bow-dacious dress, and Jane Krakowski, in a moss green dress that resembled child’s mouldy arts and crafts project.
