Little Black Book of Style by Nina Garcia
Not another one I hear you cry! Yes there are SO many fashion advice books being penned by industry insiders that there really is no excuse for having an un-organised wardrobe. The Little Black Book of Style by Nina Garcia is another style bible promising tips, advice and inspiration for women who have yet to find their sense of style. In her own words Nina Garcia aims to “awaken the fashion editor inside you and help you decide what image you want to convey to the world”.
Born in Columbia, Nina Garcia has worked in the fashion industry for over fifteen years. Currently one of the judges on Bravo’s hit series Project Runway and fashion director at Elle Magazine, Garcia has decided (lucky for us!) to share all the valuable knowledge she’s gathered over the years.
Nothing is overlooked. From the top films one can pick up style inspiration to tips on how to combine colours and textures. Garcia emphasises the importance of being one’s own muse rather than a fashion victim and the book is structured in a coherent and concise manner. Quotes from icons such as Sophia Loren, Coco Chanel and Katherine Hepburn are sprinkled throughout (even Albert Einstein gets a look in). Nina Garcia also uses her influence to coax some well respected names such as Diane Von Furstenberg, Oscar De La Renta and Ralph Lauren to participate in question and answers.
Reuben Toledo gives the book its inner style with his colourful illustrations. Seriously. They are amazing! With Toledo’s beautiful artwork and Garcia’s inspirational advice, The Little Black Book of Style makes for a brilliant gift either for yourself or anyone you know who’s remotely interested in fashion, whether they’ve found their sense of style or not.
