naomilindagalliano_final.jpgIt was decadence all the way as the crème de la crème of high society stayed up past their bedtime to celebrate Dior’s 60th anniversary. Even the supermodels (minus Kate Moss) came out to play. True to form Galliano gave us opulence and extravagance, not that we expected anything less, especially when the venue was the Royal Chateau of Versailles. The evening began with a Couture show for Autumn/winter 07/08 which Galliano used to pay tribute to the late Christians Dior’s love and appreciation of art. Coat dresses, suits and evening gowns were meticulously constructed to reference some of the world’s most famous painters and miniscule waists highlighted the lashings of fabric employed to create gorgeous full bodied skirts.

Admittedly some of the collection bared similarities to Dior’s last presentation but I adored it nonetheless. I particularly loved Galliano’s attention to detail with these sparkly star embellishments that decorated Lily Cole’s hair. The show was followed by a no expenses spared party catering to over 1000 guests. But now the attention turns to Valentino. 2007 marks 45 years since the Italian designer founded his label and with three days of partying planned it appears he has no intention of being outdone!
