I’m a bit of a wimp when it comes to horror films, but a quick scan of the A/W runways and it looks like I might have to suck it up and embrace this ghostliest of genres. From Japanese horror films at Rodarte to The Wicker Man at Luella, scary films seem to be the influence de jour. Reluctant as I am to be brave, the deliciously gothic collections may be seducing me over to the dark side.
I think I will choose Picnic at Hanging Rock as my own personal inspiration. An Australian cult film which steers clear of blood and gore in favour of a dreamlike eeriness, it’s virginal white dresses suggest a sunlit ghostliness and is a look which doesn’t immediately scare me off. Which is a good start. Plus it is a brilliant way to tie romance, gothica and summer all up in one little bow. At this rate I may even be ready for Luella’s witch hat come Halloween….
