Apart from raspberry flavour, footwear label Melissa’s jelly is probably our favourite kind. But, you know, that’s about to be topped (and with something far better than icecream) – Jason Wu has designed a limited edition collection for the Brazilian company.

Following in the footsteps of Dame Vivienne Westwood, Jean Paul Gaultier and Gareth Pugh, Wu is the first US designer to take on the iconic plastic pumps, and he’s chosen to redesign Melissa’s two siganture styles: the lady Dragon peep-toe heel and the Ultra Girl peep-toe flat.

“It was really interesting for me to explore design possibilities with plastic,” Wu said of the collaboration. “I wanted to take advantage of the materials I was given, make it all completely functional and waterproof and yet still remain extremely sophisticated.”

And while they’re based on the Brazilian brand’s best-sellers, they’ve been updated with a strong streak of Wu’s signature style – an Art Deco metallic sunburst design on the Lady Dragon comes directly from his AW11 collection, and the label’s owl motif on the flats is an especially sweet touch.

Both styles will be available in black, burgundy, nude and transparent grey, reports WWD, and will feature lace lining on the inside – another Wu trademark.

The collaboration will officially launch at Melissa’s flagship in Brazil on July 19th – needless to say you’d better act fast if you want to grab a pair (we’ll take every colour).
