We’ve been waiting for the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony for what seems like forever, and as much as we were looking forward to seeing the extravaganza Danny Boyle had secretly been working on all this time, we were most excited about seeing what, or should we say who, Kate Middleton would wear for such an historic occasion.

As usual, we weren’t disappointed; the Duchess of Cambridge looked beyond exquisite in a silk satin ice blue coatdress, which was made especially for her by Scottish designer Christopher Kane.

We adore her elegant and occasion-appropriate sartorial choice, but we’d be lying if we said we weren’t shocked by her decision to wear a Christopher Kane design. Even though we fully expected Kate to support a British designer, we thought it would have been something along the lines of one of her go-to designers such as Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, Jenny Packham or Stella McCartney.

Even though you look flawless in absolutely everything Kate, we would quite like more style surprises like this please!
